I was back in Lubbock visiting my girlfriend after she had come to see me in Austin the last few times, and we were planning our weekend. I had previously taken her to The West Table to celebrate her graduation, and since we loved it, we knew we had to go back. Last time we went was an amazing experience. We had their arancini as our shared appetizer. She had their Roasted Beet Salad and the Grilled Rack of Lamb, while I had their Caesar and their Cast Iron Seared Duck Breast, which was amazing. We also enjoyed their specialty drinks. This time we arrived for our 7:00 reservation and were greeted and sat immediately. We both ordered a drink to start the night. I started with the Hibi-Jibi, a hibiscus and gin drink, while she had the Peach Ring Margarita. West Table is a farm-to-table scratch kitchen concept, so it's very important that you order all your food from appetizer to main course up front to give them time to craft it at the right pace. The West Table is at the floor level of the luxurious Pioneer Condos. It sits right across from their sister location, The Brewery LBK, and even serves their current brews on location. However, opting for their brews and not their cocktails is a mistake in my opinion because their specialty cocktails are truly one of a kind. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It feels like a ballroom and all the tables are well spaced out. In the back is the open kitchen where you can see all the chefs putting in hard work and mastering each meal. All around, there is great energy. We started with their Roasted Bone Marrow. I was worried about the idea of eating bone marrow since that was something I had never had before, but my girlfriend assured me it would be great. The bones were filled with an onion jam and lemon caper vinaigrette that were placed inside the bone. You could spread the jam and vinaigrette on their grilled bread, which was fantastic as well. It was purposely charred and really added to the jam's flavor profile. We then split their Caesar Salad, and it was a needed divider between our appetizer and entree. Their salad is a good portion for one person, and it was still satisfying being split for two. It was the perfect amount of salad. We got our next drinks ordered to go alongside our main entree. My girlfriend ordered their Fig Old Fashioned, while I got the "C" Monster, a celery-infused vodka drink with a name that sounds so stupid saying out loud that I almost changed my drink after saying it. Can I get the C Monster? WHAT A FOOL. The drink was really solid. The celery flavor was super noticeable, but in a good way. It balanced with the vodka quite nicely. For our main entrees, my girlfriend got their Salmon over Angel Hair pasta, and I got their Pork Chop over mashed potatoes and asparagus. The noodles with the salmon were strong with a very heavy Cajun kick, which complemented the crispy salmon piece, but my pork chop was the star of the show. They recommended it medium, so I got it medium, and it was delightful. Portions of the pork chop were nice and fatty, while others were lean and tender. I was a big fan of its flavor, and the sauce and mashed potatoes really added to it. Perfectly fluffy mashed potatoes. We closed the night with no dessert, but dessert drinks. My girlfriend got The Cold Fashioned (a mix between a smoked old fashioned and coffee liqueur), and I got the Buenas Noches, which mixes coffee liqueur, chocolate liqueur, and orange liqueur. Of all the "nice" restaurants in town, West Table stands alone. It has a price tag but still feels fair. Everything we had was top notch, and I still think they've made the best duck I've ever had. Their waitstaff is attentive and amazing and really sells the experience. At the end of the night, she was happy, I was happy, and West Table proved itself to be the LeBron of Lubbock restaurants. I also tried the nashville hot chicken. Let's go pros: I really enjoyed the side options and the amount of food for the price. Chicken was juicy on the inside and not dry. The flavor on the Nashville hot chicken was enjoyable. Cons: The chicken itself doesn't feel marinated or anything so the flavor isn't in the chicken itself. The seasoning on the tenders was very minimal and just tasted like a lot of salt. Same with the okra... the fry on the okra was good but just tasted like salt. The mashed potatoes were fine but the "bacon" in the gravy was canadian bacon or something because it wasn't crispy like bacon. I wouldn't get the mash again.. Nashville definitely had better flavor, but was very very very oily. It's also has like virtually no spice. Dirks signature sauce is like canes sauce but tangier... (Canes is better I'm sorry). Service was good! They do charge 2.5% credit card fee so bring cash.

This place is entirely too loud at breakfast, lunch and dinner.....including non-peak times. Food and service are stellar. The fried okra is the best I have ever had, and the only okra I have had that is served whole. The KFC is on point and I I truly enjoy the steak fingers.

The service and staff make you feel welcome, they're friendly, quick - all the things you could ask for to enhance your experience. They offer it. The location is nice if you're anywhere near the Tech campus area. It's right on Broadway. Parking can be tough if it's busy. There is street parking and a lot, but neither are the most plentiful. The food is the real star though. Their wings are incredible, and they don't mess around with the spice. They can be hot! I love the jalapeño poppers. Where else gives you a real popper and not just a frozen and deep fried version? As for the pizza...I'm pleased to say it's the best part of an already awesome place. It doesn't matter what kind you get, you'll be happy with your choice. The Last Call Pizza deserves it's own paragraph. I think I can confidently say it's my favorite pizza of all time. And the second time I had it, confirmed just that. Look at this description - "Homemade smoky pizza sauce and alfredo sauce, topped with cheese, bacon, sausage, sunny-side-up eggs, and drizzled with our sriracha sauce". It's INCREDIBLE! Can't recommend this place enough, if you're in Lubbock get over here!

As we were leaving our very special dinner date, we were driving through downtown Lubbock off Broadway when a place we had never seen before passed by the car window. In perfect unison and harmony, she and I said, "What place is that? Narrow Bar?" We had never seen it before. Was it new? Were we just blind all this time? Narrow Bar has been around. We truly have been blind all this time. Through my four years of college and then some, I had never heard of it. Tonight would change that. As I reached Avenue Q, we turned around to investigate. Narrow Bar is attached to the Wells Fargo building with, shockingly, a narrow indoor bar. The outside is what grabbed our attention: an expansive patio filled with a live music trio and young adults casually having a great time. Was this bar one of Lubbock's best-kept secrets? Having had a few drinks already, we agreed on a one-and-done experience to try this place out. We were handed an expansive drink menu listing four categories: classic cocktails, contemporary cocktails, signature cocktails, and mocktails. I immediately eyed one of my favorite cocktails, a Carajillo, while my girlfriend yearned for the IYKYK (a Porn Star Martini). Our server took our order, and it wasn't long before our drinks reached the table. My Carajillo came with one of those big ice cubes (an actual cube), which was awesome, and the drink itself was really well done. Their espresso cold brew gave it a strong coffee profile that wasn't as sharp as other Carajillos I've had, which I think benefited the drink, especially being mixed with the slightly citrusy Licor 43. As for my girlfriend, she was really excited for her martini and adored it, notably because it came with prosecco. The space is really nice on a cool Lubbock night as it faces the street of downtown Lubbock. The band playing was not a cheesy bar band but actually quite good, pulling some deeper tracks out of their hat, including "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The lead vocalist had this Steve Miller vocal inflection going on, so I requested any Steve Miller song, and we got the always enjoyable "Fly Like an Eagle." They had no tip jar sadly, but my hat goes off to you guys. It was a short experience, but a great impression enough to make us know we're coming back the next time I visit her in Lubbock. Narrow Bar is on point when it comes to their cocktails. IMHO they have the best Chilton in Lubbock. If you know you know. However where they really shine is with their focus on offering a wide selection of Bourbons and Scotch. They offer the usual suspects, but they also offer several allocations. Did I mentioned Narrow Bar also offers Clase Azul Repesado, Anjeno and Plata (I think that is the other one they have). Their salad is also excellent with or without protein added, however I recommend getting the dressing on the side.
