Just keep going through the business complex to find this sweet spot at the tail end on the left side! Trust me, the coffee is excellent and you do not want to miss it. That being said, it is the cutest shop. It felt modern but cozy and not pretentious. A great spot to sit and sip some coffee with friends or clients. I wanted to get a real taste of the roastery and purchased the standard coffee with nothing in it! What a change for me, but totally worth it. The coffee was great. I even had the hubby try it (a normal person that uses milk in his coffee, ugh) and he said that he could drink it with nothing! WHAT! Yep, that is huge. PROS: Great parking Cute spot Great coffee/tea choices CONS: Difficult to find, GPS does not get you all the way there, keep going read more

Very cool coffee shop is a hidden gem. The barista greeted me as I walked in and showed me their menus. I got a small iced coconut latte, which is really good! The shop has a cool space. Lots of plants, has lots of places to sit and sip your coffee, there's a puzzle on a table that everyone can work on, cool mosaic above the door, and has some cool art pieces on the wall. Definitely will be back soon! read more

A haven located close yet away from the commercial bustle. If you see an area with a firepit and garage door with their logo then curve around the building for the entrance. I think shortly after our visit they replaced the sign above the door so now it's clear where the cafe is at. Bright open clean artsy and inclusive cafe. Lattes were spot on. I wanted to come back the next day to try more alas it wasn't in the cards. Will try to ensure a stop here each time I return to visit Valpo as they have a new fan. read more

This is a hidden gem! It's tucked off the main road so you'd never know it was there. Also the fact that the door faces away from the street makes it feel like you aren't supposed to go in! When you do venture inside, the lighting is amazing. It's a bright and cute space that's perfect for sitting to hang out or study. The coffee was so good! I had a seasonal latte and my husband got an Americano and both were spot on. It's always nice when a coffee roaster can do a great Americano and not just a latte! read more

This place wasn't in an obvious spot, so I'm glad I found it. My significant other and I walked inside. I checked out the menu on the wall. I liked how it was displayed. I went to the counter to order. I ordered an ESPRESSO. It was 3. I also ordered a DRIP. It was 4. My items were ready fast. We sat down at a table. The ESPRESSO packed a burst of flavor. I enjoyed it. The DRIP had a unique taste in my opinion. It made for a casual drink to sip on. I took the rest with me and enjoyed it shortly after. The service was to the point. I didn't have any issues. Overall, this place provided me with an excellent experience. I was impressed and I hope to go again someday. Date of visit: Jul 19 2025 read more

Absolutely the best coffee in the area. I'm a big fan of really strong tasting lattes and this one served. A friend of mine had recommended getting half caff due to the strength of theirs, but choose your own adventure on that! The space itself is really tucked away but I find myself making trips out to Valpo from time to time just to get an iced latte because it is so great. It's also a great interior if you want to sit and stay a while and a large space overall! I recommend dagger mountain to anyone looking for the best coffee in NWI, because honestly it doesn't even feel like a competition! read more

Crazy good! This is a top tier roastery and espresso Cafe, had high expectations given how much my sisters like it here and surprisingly did not have high enough! It is a beautiful and inviting atmosphere, plenty of space, high ceilings made for ideal vibes, and the staff matches the easy going space. The menu is perfect with something to treat everyone's taste. Noticed hand crafted house made syrups which signify an aim for royalty flavors and balanced java lattes, my sisters already waxed eloquent on seasonal brews the past year. I can happily support all and any items Dagger ever makes at this rate. My sister and I did the Salted Maple and an Orange latte off the seasonal menu. Noticed the orange was quiet and letting the roast speak louder but mine was well balanced promoting both tingly salt and smooth maples notes, wish we could've stayed around for a bit! Will definitely be back here even with many other excellent coffee options in the area, I can put Dagger up there with Sacred Grounds in Lafayette, Zion in Peoria, and Gaia in Indianapolis for my favorite midwest brew houses! read more

The cafe has a nice vibe, but the coffee was just okay. I ordered a cappuccino, and it tasted kinda burnt. The staff wasn't rude, but they didn't seem very interested either. I also noticed the tables weren't very clean. Probably won't rush back anytime soon. read more

Stopped for my caffeine fix on my long drive from Chicago to Columbus. Will definitely stop again. It's Beautiful, clean and cozy. This place is too cool for school. Like, maybe even actually too cool for Valpo (no hate on my hometown), but the coffee is awesome so I see why it works. This is the kind of place that brews single origin coffee and doesn't want you to put milk in it so you can taste the different notes (this really happened to us here in 2016), but I can appreciate the owners' passion for coffee and ya know what? It's their shop and they're serving coffee how they want to, so I can respect that. The location is, well, off the beaten path. It's in a garage off of Silhavy--I'm not even sure what the other surrounding businesses are, but it's certainly not on a main drag or anything. I stopped in this week to get a latte while I was in town and they're currently closed for any walk ins due to COVID. I pulled up their menu on Yelp, called to place my order, paid over the phone, and my latte was brought out to the car shortly after. Easy peasy! It's worth noting that if you do want milk in your latte, they *only* serve oat milk. Works for me because I really like oat milk, but if you're craving a traditional cappuccino or something, you might want to head to Blackbird on Lincolnway. read more

This place makes the best iced lattes that I've found in the Midwest! I spent just over a month in Beverly Shores and was really struggling to find good coffee as a Blue Bottle loyalist. When I finally discovered Dagger Mountain, I made the drive from Beverly Shores every few days and it was a fantastic way to start the morning! Though their in store coffee drinks were delicious, I will say I wasn't as big of a fan of their roasts. I personally prefer a dark roast, which I know isn't common in the Midwest, so their coffee beans which featured light-medium roasts weren't quite my speed. I gave them a chance, tried tweaking my at home pour-over method for them, but I just couldn't find a way to enjoy it. I'm sure they're high quality and someone with a different palette would enjoy them! read more

I had to say Jager Mountain is an amazing place to get coffee in Valparaiso they do such an amazing job they know their staff there Coffee is so fresh and taste wonderful they use green beans to roast and every roast is different but it taste so great I recommend this place highly to anyone who wants coffee there is in this area read more

I stopped in here to grab a tea, loved the Rosella. It is small but cute and they did a good job with how they decorated it. There is limited seating so this isn't the best place to sit and study for hours. I will stop in again to try some other things. read more

Very disappointing! I'm admittedly a coffee snob. I have a ridiculous number of coffee making devices to match my mood. I always carefully weigh coffee and water in grams. I always burr grind my own beans just before I brew. I have three different coffee club subscriptions. I was hoping for something delicious from this place so I could support a business in my own state. The coffee was so bad I called to find out if others had complained about it. It was undrinkable. One bag was from Honduras the other Ethiopia. I was promised a call back the next day from the bean roaster, who was not there when I called. That was two weeks ago. Nothing. I literally threw the coffee in the trash. One star for the terrible coffee and one star for the lousy service. read more

So disappointed to pay 6.50 for a coffee that was not fresh. He poured the last of a batch and it was barely warm and tasted old. I am a coffee snob and passed through on the way to chicago so wanted to check this place out as I am obsessed with supporting local coffee shops, but do not recommend it. I just heard about this place today and really enjoyed it. 1. Love that they only use oat milk 2. Love how clean and minimal it is inside. With music that isn't too loud. 3. Super friendly service. I ordered a chai tea latte. It was a touch too spicy for my liking, so next time I'll ask them to go light on the cinnamon. But all and all a great little coffee shop. I completely forgot I was in Valpo for a few minutes. My only complaint is that they don't have more flavor options. read more

I'm basically giving this place 4.5 stars because the only negative thing I can say about this place is they need more parking other than that the place is awesome! This is a "black coffee bar" meaning they don't have cream or sugar and I gotta say with their coffee you really don't need it or miss it. This place specializes coffee pour overs and it really is a amazing cup of coffee. The guy that helped me was Dan and he had very good customer service and helped me decide on what to have and was very friendly and knowledgeable about the product and process. They had plenty of seating and it was a good atmosphere. I'll definitely be back to pick up some coffee! read more

I wish I could've experienced the indoor aesthetic (thanks 2020:) but the online ordering and drive-up-deliver was quick and efficient. I tried both the gingerbread latte and miel (both decaf). Both drinks were rich & flavorful. Love the oatmilk. Best coffee experience in the Valpo area. read more

My first experience from the post-milk generation at Dagger Mountain Roastery was just before Thanksgiving. The barista provided a delightfully flavorful latte made with oat milk. I was so excited to return here after many moons out of the coffee scene due to health issues. Upon arriving-- the atmosphere is grand and spacious, yet cosy. The colors are striking yet calming. It's really quite lovely and charming. The eye for design is spot on. I ordered a fall drink since it was the first day of autumn. I asked for whole milk in my latte. I was told there was no dairy available in the establishment. When I asked why, the guy at the counter said the owners are vegan. Now, I'm all for personal choice--that should not only be accepted but celebrated. I once was a vegan myself (sadly it resulted in further declining health issues) I would never force my beliefs on others and I was genuinely surprised of their choice to do so. I wanted to be polite and open to their choice, so I kept my order. It had oat milk in it. It tasted a bit watered down. The gums and oils in oat milk make me feel bloated and nauseated. Yet, I do perfectly fine with regular dairy. I remember seeing assorted decor there that said something along the lines of "connection and community." I felt zero connection. I felt no community. Again this place is lovely, I know you guys will be more than okay without my business. Perhaps, it's worth delving deeper into what truly fosters connection and community. Having cleaner milk alternatives or allowing your customers a choice that can be both accepted and celebrated for what makes them feel their best so there is reciprocity and true connection + community. My business will have to continue going exclusively to Fluid and their celebration of free agency. Thank you! read more

Found Dagger Mtn on Instagram via Acme Cups. One of the highest quality coffee stops yet. It was the first time my husband Josiah and I tried Siphon method - incredible clarity in the freshly roasted El Salvador yielded. It was also the first coffee roasters we've experienced who don't serve any sugar or cream. The coffee didn't need it. Super cool interior; garage door open, Rifle paper co sprinkled about, clean, real wood beams and Edison bulbs, acme co cups, soft music. Two thumbs way up! read more

We drove here just for a coffee/chai stop while on a long drive. This place was totally worth it. I wanted a good chai that was not just sweet. Their chai is excellent and flavorful, plus they mix it with oatmilk and cinnamon sprinkled on top. I loved it. My husband really liked his coffee and he got a piece of coffee cake which he said was outstanding. I appreciated their simple/eclectic decor, local sale of flowers and environmental thoughtfulness (one example: paper straw for my husband's iced coffee that he was going to drink while driving). We really liked this place and will likely be back next time we're in Indiana. read more

Nice barista , very good customer service. but was hoping for a daily Brew not older than 2 days. Hubby did not like the Americano made with Limestone. Just moved to Valpo from Vegas. So I'm looking for a coffee place and decided to try Dagger Mountain. I ordered a Cafe Mocha that I absolutely enjoyed. The spot of this coffee joint is right next to the indoor golf place. It did take me a minute to find it. When I walked in there were four other people having coffee. The music was a lite jazz so the feel was very calm and quiet. The seating is minimal I want to say three small tables (six chairs), a bar with seating over watching coffee production and this wooden bench that I sat on squeaked with any movement . I didn't see any pastries or a menu of sorts. One thing they do have is a punch card where returning customers can earn a free coffee. I'll be back again in the future but I'm staying away from the awkward bench. read more

I heard there were basically two coffee houses worth visiting in Valpo. I drove down from Michigan City (since there are no coffee houses worth visiting there) and tried them both back to back. Here's my take: the first place I went, located in the downtown area, had great coffee and fantastic customer service packed into a fun environment. Great for the college coffee scene. The second place, DMR, has superior coffee for the true connoisseur. The location is out of the way, which I like, and the decor is tasteful and suits the product. The customer service is not as good, but it's a decent trade off for the product. Don't get me wrong, no one was rude or inattentive, they just didn't go that "extra mile" to make you feel like they truly value your patronage. The place downtown did. So, if you need to feel warm and fuzzy on the outside, the downtown spot wins. If you want to feel warm and fuzzy on the inside, DMR wins. Me? I'll be frequenting both depending on what mood I'm in that day! PS- Giving less stars because there's no milk or sugar? You're not understanding the concept. This isn't Starbucks. You don't drink craft beer through a straw, and you don't drink this type of coffee by masking the flavors with what Starbucks requires to make it drinkable. It's not pretentious snobbery, it's simply an escalated plain of coffee culture. You CAN eat sushi with a fork, but you shouldn't. read more
