Very cool coffee shop is a hidden gem. The barista greeted me as I walked in and showed me their menus. I got a small iced coconut latte, which is really good! The shop has a cool space. Lots of plants, has lots of places to sit and sip your coffee, there's a puzzle on a table that everyone can work on, cool mosaic above the door, and has some cool art pieces on the wall. A haven located close yet away from the commercial bustle. If you see an area with a firepit and garage door with their logo then curve around the building for the entrance. I think shortly after our visit they replaced the sign above the door so now it's clear where the cafe is at. Bright open clean artsy and inclusive cafe. Lattes were spot on. This is a hidden gem! It's tucked off the main road so you'd never know it was there. Also the fact that the door faces away from the street makes it feel like you aren't supposed to go in! Absolutely the best coffee in the area. I'm a big fan of really strong tasting lattes and this one served. A friend of mine had recommended getting half caff due to the strength of theirs, but choose your own adventure on that! It is a beautiful and inviting atmosphere, plenty of space, high ceilings made for ideal vibes, and the staff matches the easy going space. Noticed hand crafted house made syrups which signify an aim for royalty flavors and balanced java lattes, my sisters already waxed eloquent on seasonal brews the past year. This place is too cool for school. Like, maybe even actually too cool for Valpo (no hate on my hometown), but the coffee is awesome so I see why it works. This is the kind of place that brews single origin coffee and doesn't want you to put milk in it so you can taste the different notes (this really happened to us here in 2016), but I can appreciate the owners' passion for coffee and ya know what? It's their shop and they're serving coffee how they want to, so I can respect that. The location is, well, off the beaten path. It's in a garage off of Silhavy--I'm not even sure what the other surrounding businesses are, but it's certainly not on a main drag or anything. I stopped in this week to get a latte while I was in town and they're currently closed for any walk ins due to COVID. I pulled up their menu on Yelp, called to place my order, paid over the phone, and my latte was brought out to the car shortly after. Easy peasy! Omg I finally found Dagger and boy am I glad I did!! I work on the Mag mile which is noisy and busy...Dagger was my Michigan Ave cure! This place makes the best iced lattes that I've found in the Midwest! I spent just over a month in Beverly Shores and was really struggling to find good coffee as a Blue Bottle loyalist. When I finally discovered Dagger Mountain, I made the drive from Beverly Shores every few days and it was a fantastic way to start the morning! Though their in store coffee drinks were delicious, I will say I wasn't as big of a fan of their roasts. I personally prefer a dark roast, which I know isn't common in the Midwest, so their coffee beans which featured light-medium roasts weren't quite my speed. I gave them a chance, tried tweaking my at home pour-over method for them, but I just couldn't find a way to enjoy it. I'm sure they're high quality and someone with a different palette would enjoy them! read more

I always burr grind my own beans just before I brew. I have three different coffee club subscriptions. I was so excited to return here after many moons out of the coffee scene due to health issues. Upon arriving-- the atmosphere is grand and spacious, yet cosy. The colors are striking yet calming. It's really quite lovely and charming. The eye for design is spot on. I ordered a fall drink since it was the first day of autumn. I asked for whole milk in my latte. I was told there was no dairy available in the establishment. When I asked why, the guy at the counter said the owners are vegan. Now, I'm all for personal choice--that should not only be accepted but celebrated. I once was a vegan myself (sadly it resulted in further declining health issues) I would never force my beliefs on others and I was genuinely surprised of their choice to do so. I wanted to be polite and open to their choice, so I kept my order. It had oat milk in it. It tasted a bit watered down. The gums and oils in oat milk make me feel bloated and nauseated. Yet, I do perfectly fine with regular dairy. I remember seeing assorted decor there that said something along the lines of "connection and community." I felt zero connection. I felt no community. Again this place is lovely, I know you guys will be more than okay without my business. Perhaps, it's worth delving deeper into what truly fosters connection and community. Having cleaner milk alternatives or allowing your customers a choice that can be both accepted and celebrated for what makes them feel their best so there is reciprocity and true connection + community. This is a "black coffee bar" meaning they don't have cream or sugar and I gotta say with their coffee you really don't need it or miss it. My husband really liked his coffee and he got a piece of coffee cake which he said was outstanding. I appreciated their simple/eclectic decor, local sale of flowers and environmental thoughtfulness (one example: paper straw for my husband's iced coffee that he was going to drink while driving). It was the first time my husband Josiah and I tried Siphon method - incredible clarity in the freshly roasted El Salvador yielded. Just moved to Valpo from Vegas. So I'm looking for a coffee place and decided to try Dagger Mountain. I ordered a Cafe Mocha that I absolutely enjoyed. The spot of this coffee joint is right next to the indoor golf place. It did take me a minute to find it. When I walked in there were four other people having coffee. The music was a lite jazz so the feel was very calm and quiet. The seating is minimal I want to say three small tables (six chairs), a bar with seating over watching coffee production and this wooden bench that I sat on squeaked with any movement . I didn't see any pastries or a menu of sorts. One thing they do have is a punch card where returning customers can earn a free coffee. I'll be back again in the future but I'm staying away from the awkward bench. read more

I heard there were basically two coffee houses worth visiting in Valpo. I drove down from Michigan City (since there are no coffee houses worth visiting there) and tried them both back to back. Here's my take: the first place I went, located in the downtown area, had great coffee and fantastic customer service packed into a fun environment. Great for the college coffee scene. The second place, DMR, has superior coffee for the true connoisseur. The location is out of the way, which I like, and the decor is tasteful and suits the product. The customer service is not as good, but it's a decent trade off for the product. Don't get me wrong, no one was rude or inattentive, they just didn't go that "extra mile" to make you feel like they truly value your patronage. The place downtown did. So, if you need to feel warm and fuzzy on the outside, the downtown spot wins. If you want to feel warm and fuzzy on the inside, DMR wins. Me? I'll be frequenting both depending on what mood I'm in that day! PS- Giving less stars because there's no milk or sugar? You're not understanding the concept. This isn't Starbucks. You don't drink craft beer through a straw, and you don't drink this type of coffee by masking the flavors with what Starbucks requires to make it drinkable. It's not pretentious snobbery, it's simply an escalated plain of coffee culture. You CAN eat sushi with a fork, but you shouldn't. read more
