S11. Seafood & Vegetables Stew
Annie Y.

Came here on a Saturday late afternoon. Ordered the Galbi Tang (Beef short rib stew) and the Seafood Stew (spicy). The Galbi Tang had 3 ribs in it and soup was super beefy. Delicious! Seafood stew had half a crab and a fish head - the good stuff! How you know the soup is super nutritious. It came with 5 side delicious - yum! The food came out fast and service was great! Highly recommend if you are in the area!

Sides that can with our bbq for two

This was our first time coming here, and we really enjoyed it! We were greeted promptly would be arrived and seated. We got there about 5:30 PM and it wasn't busy yet. That turned out to be a really good thing because we have never been here before nor have we had Korean barbecue. The server spent some time going over the menu with us, and we decided to get a meal for two even though there were four of us. We also ordered a bowl of soup and an extra appetizer The server brought out the assorted meats and put them on the grill, showing us how to cook them. Well, everything did taste good that was grilled. The four of us did agree that the Bulgogi was best. As for the sides, we all had our favorites. I really enjoyed the seafood pancake that we had ordered is the appetizer. My husband really enjoyed the kimchi and the marinated cucumbers. My mother-in-law enjoyed the miso soup. I never had fish cake before, so I'm not sure if this is how it normally is, but it was strips of very thin noodle like stuff. Lol. I know that's not really technical sounding but I really don't know how to explain it. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and I'm looking forward coming back to explore the menu further. One thing to note, is that the restaurant isn't exactly where it shows in maps on yelp...it's actually on a different section of the plaza. Also, they may have change the name of the restaurant. I am slightly hard of hearing, and I have difficulty understanding people with accents. But I hope you can find this place and give it a shot!

Great service here always. Frequent customers for years since moving to Northville and the workers recognize us and are very friendly. Cost is average for KBBQ. I like that they use an electric stove because the smoke doesn't make you leave smelling like what you ate. All the sides with the meal is excellent. Always my favorite part. Kimchi is 10/10, we all (4) had individual rice, fermented cucumbers and fried tofu were amazing. We ordered multiple servings of thin sliced beef brisket ($23.99 each), and soft tofu stew. Honestly amazing and filling. Would come again

2.5 years later, I'm updating my review for this place. They unfortunately no longer do AYCE (all-you-can-eat) but the food is still pretty good. We had five people tonight (myself, my boyfriend, and three of his friends) and we opted for the $88 combo plate, which included bulgogi, spicy pork, pork belly, and marinated ribs. I don't usually like spicy things but the pork was very good, as were all of the meats. The side dishes weren't as good as other KBBQ places in the area - there was some sort of mac & cheese dish, tofu, a salad, broccoli, kimchi, and others - but no bean sprouts, which is my preference. The combo we got was technically for three people and we ended up ordering a second combo of the same after, too. The bill was about $200 before tip and that also included an order of their dumplings ($8.99, although it says $7.99 on the menu) and two soft drinks. Compared to other places in the area (Chung Ki Wa and Korea Palace, both in Sterling Heights), it's a bit cheaper - I think Chunky, as I call it, was about $100-110 for that amount of food. However, waitservice continues to lag a little bit - we had to flag them down to order more food and also get refills, though sometimes they'd ask us about refills. The combo we ordered was supposed to come with a steamed egg and they never brought it, too - we had to ask about it. Overall I'd come back here for the food, which was very good, but I'd recommend coming with a group to split the price.

This is the food we were told not to touch during our meal

Food was good but service was pretty inconsiderate. We asked to sit at the bbq table and we were denied the ability to cook our food, assumingly because we were white, or my friends disability, regardless, the staff did not speak to us in english, unless it was to take our order and they did not say thank you or were kind at all. This was such a terrible experience and it felt extremely demeaning. I felt like a child being told that I was too stupid to be able to use the grill, and I believe that they purposefully didn't refill our drinks so we had to make it last! The other tables got their drinks refilled so I'm not sure what happened.

Great food, the perfect ambiance for a date night or a girls night. The 2 person meat platter with kimchi here was really tasty and is such a large amount of food. This was my first time at Dae Jang Keum and I would say it was a great dinner. The owner helped us with cooking our platter and was our server was stellar she provided excellent service. I will definitely be back and recommend this restaurant, we really loved it. Dae Jang Keum is a must try!!!

It's dead here. It's just the two of us, how nice is that. They don't have all you can eat BBQ, although they have their huge banner when you first come in for the all you can eat BBQ. This is the yelp famous grill that shuts off every 10 minutes. There's no exhaust fan here anywhere above the grill. Our clothes and hair will be stinky after this meal. They require masks on until the food comes out, hope the tteokbokki app comes out quick. The banchans, lettuce, salad and bean paste for the meat. The banchans are potato salad with veggies, fried peanuts, cucumber kimchi, spicy tofu and fish cakes. The tteokbokki was okay, not as spicy and maybe slightly on the too sweet side. The spicy chicken meat is rather fatty and not even decently trimmed. We ended up having to do some trimming as we cut it up for the grill. Taste overall is not bad. I would prefer red leaf lettuce as the green leaf lettuce is a bit too coarse and harder to wrap up for consumption. Service was so-so, not the friendliest waitress. Had to ask for more water, then lettuce and then more banchans. Would normally stuff myself during a Korean BBQ and were only able to one serving and portion. They require a minimum of two orders for the BBQ, how annoying is that, knowing two servings was more than enough for the two of us. Guess we have fatty chicken to trim and cook at home for tomorrow.

Kalbi lunch. Portion is smaller than before, and mash potatoes are cold

Went here for lunch today. Lunch box portions are smaller than before which sucks. I was still hungry after lunch. It taste good except the mash potatoes. I never had cold mashed potatoes before. Place is dead , sat there for like an hour and only 4 customer came in. It used to be full.

Not the best, but decent kbbq. The meat didn't look too fresh, which we assume is from being stored in the marinade for a very long time. The marinade had good flavor but was waaaay too sweet. If it had maybe half the amount of sugar it would have been perfect. Naengmyun was also way too sweet. The broth tasted too much like sugar water. The dressing in the salad was also heavily salted so we had to ask for no dressing. It seemed like everything here, including the side dishes, used lots of sugar and salt because we were all extremely thirsty after our meal. It was still a pretty good meal though, and our server was amazing.

Bulgogi dinner combo
Cory C.

I was hoping that this would be another good Korean restaurant to go to, but unfortunately I wasn't impressed. I ordered the bulgogi dinner "combo", which includes a platter of bulgogi, a couple pieces of vegetables, and a small bowl of white rice. While I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of beef I received, it was just too salty. It didn't necessarily taste that way since the sweet Korean bbq sauce masked it, but I became very thirsty very fast. The amount of rice that came with the meal was not enough to offset the saltiness. My mom ordered a sizzling stone bowl with meat, rice, egg, etc inside. She said it wasn't really hot enough (not sizzling) and it was also pretty small, compared to bowls that we've gotten at other places like Tofu House in Farmington. We ordered a green onion pancake but it had seafood (shrimp) in it...that would be a big issue if someone had seafood allergies, because the menu doesn't mention seafood at all; it literally says "green onion pancake". It was nothing like Chinese green onion pancakes, which are thin, flaky, and crispy. This was dense, soggy, and had way more green onion than pancake...not a fan. Service was subpar. I asked for a tea refill due to my salty bulgogi, but it took about 20 minutes before I got it. The waitresses walked by several times, bringing tea to other customers, before I flagged her down and she said "oh, you want tea?" Based on this experience, it's doubtful I'll be back.

Also curious about the all-you-can-eat choice - what is the pricing? Thanks.

Has anyone experienced their new "all you can eat" choice? How is the quality, the options, pricing and any restrictions, besides not loading up to take food home?

just try it today. Not good. They add 18% tip charge to your bill and you have to pay for it. Even the service was not good. No refill on the water.

I ordered the seafood bibimbap and it was honestly amazing. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and perfectly balanced. The portions were great too. What I really liked is that they also offer the Korean BBQ experience where you can cook your own food at the table, which makes it fun whether you're going with friends or family. If you want authentic Korean food (not watered down), this is definitely the spot. I'll 100% be coming back.

Bibimbap has always been on the pricer side, but I feel they are even more pricer now. The chicken wings are 15$ and you only get 5/6 and a larger 27 for 10. I think that's very expensive. However, I did like the sweet hot flavor of the chicken wings. The bulgogi hot stone bowl was 24$ and the bowl was so small and you didn't even get rice cakes with them. I didn't like no did I hate the flavor. It was definitely more savory than the normal sweetness of bulgogi. The side dishes were lacking sadly. Maybe because it was closer to night, but I did not like the side dishes at all. The barely tea was still good. That was my favorite thing about this place and glad it did not change. The decorations are still kind of the same and it didn't look different. The service was also nice. The person helping us was nice e and we did get checked on. Even when we were done and just socializing we were helped.

I tried one of each flavor of chicken for the cupbap, and it was tasty and fresh. Though as a self proclaimed spice wimp, the sweet and spicy was just a bit beyond my tolerance. Still, I'm glad I had the opportunity to try it by picking what flavors I wanted. The beef bulgogi kimbap was another winner that tasted fresh and delightful, and while the rice cake kkochi had a very lovely chewy texture, the spice level was just a bit much for me. Oddly enough, the first time I ordered, they messed up my cupbap. Extra annoying considering I had ordered take out and only noticed something was wrong once I was safetly settled back at my desk (I 100% could have checked before I left the restaurant so that bit's on me). I immediately called the restaurant to explain what had gone wrong, and they were incredibly apologetic and wanted to make it right for me immediately. They offered to refund me or make me something fresh. I opted for the latter. Honestly, they went above and beyond to make things right for me, and mistakes happen, so to see a business so plainly own their mistake and make up for it is always a plus in my book. I'll be back. That cupbap made my stomach happy.

We were surprised at its location, as it is a few doors down from a breakfast place we have frequented. We laughed at how we don't really pay attention to the other places in that complex.... The fare is Korean street food, which is a bit different than what one would get at a typical Korean restaurant. The decor of K Bunsik is very simple, with cutesy murals on the wall. There was an array of tables & chairs that were well-spaced, and the chairs were comfortable. When you sit at your table, there is a touch screen menu from which you order your food. The menu was a little confusing, for we were not familiar with the system. We asked a waitress for help and she showed us the easy way of finding the description of the menu items (yes, we felt a little foolish LOL). We ordered the Tabletop Ttoekbokki Set for Two, which came with fried dumpling, fried seaweed, soup and pickled relish sides, and drinks. We also ordered Kimpbap, which is a bulgogi sushi roll, and we ordered fried chicken with soy garlic sauce because .. why not? There was a slight snafu because we ordered the Kimpbap without egg (allergy) but it came with egg anyway. They corrected the mistake right away. However, the Ttoekbokki had two boiled eggs in it, which was not listed in the description. Because they were already hard boiled, my husband fished the eggs out and there was no harm/no foul. I realize now that the Ttoekbokki Set will not have a description of the stew on the menu, but if you look at Ttoekbokki à la carte, it does list the egg. Regardless, like the Kimpbap there should be the option to remove egg - or put it on the side. The food was excellent! The Ttoekbokki was cooked at our table (after we took out the egg). It consisted of a spicy broth with fish cake, rice cakes, cabbage, green onions, and glass noodles. The fried dumplings and seaweed rolls were filled with glass noodle japchae, and were an awesome treat. The Kimpbap was delicious, and the chicken was perfectly crispy, sweet, and spicy. Just when we thought the meal couldn't get any better, the chef (?) / manager (?) came out and offered to upgrade our remaining broth with cream. Holy moly, it was good! Just when we thought our meal couldn't have gotten better! The chef then gave us tips on how to best enjoy our meal, such as using the Ttoekbokki broth as a dipping sauce for our dumplings. I also dipped one of my Kimpbap in it.... Yum yum! For drink choices I picked Coke but then, I accidentally chose "Milkis" as our other option. It is described on the can as a cream soda, but then says "milk & yogurt" on the can. My husband decided to be the adventurous one and take it, but he offered me a swig. I braced myself for what I imagined would be a fizzy curdled nightmare. Let's just say I ordered my own Milkis and the Coke I ordered came home with us unopened (LOL). Milkis literally tastes like cream soda - like Faygo, A & W, or the like - only better. There were no dessert offerings that we saw but frankly, our bellies probably would have burst had we tried to eat any. The price was very reasonable and we had a lot of leftovers to bring home. I can't say enough about how good K Bunsik's food is. The decor is simple and the seating is comfortable. There were no time limits on our enjoyment. Great experience that we will definitely be repeating!

However, I firmly believe the restaurant gave me food poisoning, either from the oysters in the radish salad or the lettuce leaves that were a little expired. For my dinner, I ordered bossam (pork wraps). The banchan (side dishes) the meal came with included radish kimchi, napa cabbage kimchi, potato salad, and seaweed salad, which were all delicious. The bossam itself came with a set of red leaf lettuce, mussangchae (radish salad), ssamjang (soybean dipping sauce), raw garlic and jalapeno, and a saeujeot (salted shrimp) mixture. Notably, some portions of the lettuce leaf did seem past their prime and were soggy or mush. All in all, I enjoyed the entire meal, especially the mussanchae which unusually had oysters in it. What I did not enjoy was the entire week I spent on the toilet after I ate the meal. Had I not been food poisoned, this restaurant would easily have been a 5/5. Because of this and despite the health concerns, I am willing to give the restaurant another shot. The other food options seem very enjoyable.
