DJK is located in a strip mall with many other restaurants right of Grand River and Haggerty. We came here on a Wednesday night and ordered kbbq for 2 people. The combo came with chadol- thinly sliced beef brisket, pork belly (2 pieces), bulgogi, ban chan- side dishes with free refills, two bowls of rice, salad and steamed egg. The service was great! Usually I'm in charge of grilling the meat, but the staff placed an the meat on the grill for us and came back to check on us. The food was delicious and plenty for two people. The place is so amazing. My favorite Korean spot to go to. The waitstaff are nice and helpful in picking food. I have been here for lunch and dinner. Their lunch specials are really good. My favorite is the bulgogi hot pot lunch (just minus the mushrooms for me). It's very filling and tastes so good. But their side dishes are where it's at! The pasta salad and the sweet potato dish are my favorite! I always ask for extra and they never have a problem giving them to me. Definitely give this cute place a try. read more

I've been here 3 times now and each time has been good in my experience . I really liked the shredded beef soup I had tonight and my friend enjoyed the sliced beef ribeye & vegetable soup. My parents enjoyed the Korean bbq and the servers helped cook and cut our meat. Overall the bbq was okay, but seeing other reviews I see that others think it wasn't that good. The service was nice and attentive. It's never been super busy when I've gone so the food is brought out relatively fast after ordering. It's a pretty spacious place and quiet, even though there is background music. It's nice and clean here too. I recommend checking them out if you are passing through Novi and want some Korean food. Came here on a Saturday late afternoon. Ordered the Galbi Tang (Beef short rib stew) and the Seafood Stew (spicy). The Galbi Tang had 3 ribs in it and soup was super beefy. Delicious! I always order the vegetable tofu dolsot bibimbap here which comes in a hot stone pot. It's always very tasty and the portions are hearty. Their tea is also very good. Good decorations too and staff are friendly! Would recommend. read more

This was our first time coming here, and we really enjoyed it! We were greeted promptly would be arrived and seated. We got there about 5:30 PM and it wasn't busy yet. That turned out to be a really good thing because we have never been here before nor have we had Korean barbecue. The server spent some time going over the menu with us, and we decided to get a meal for two even though there were four of us. We also ordered a bowl of soup and an extra appetizer The server brought out the assorted meats and put them on the grill, showing us how to cook them. Well, everything did taste good that was grilled. The four of us did agree that the Bulgogi was best. As for the sides, we all had our favorites. I really enjoyed the seafood pancake that we had ordered is the appetizer. My husband really enjoyed the kimchi and the marinated cucumbers. My mother-in-law enjoyed the miso soup. I never had fish cake before, so I'm not sure if this is how it normally is, but it was strips of very thin noodle like stuff. Lol. I know that's not really technical sounding but I really don't know how to explain it. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and I'm looking forward coming back to explore the menu further. One thing to note, is that the restaurant isn't exactly where it shows in maps on yelp...it's actually on a different section of the plaza. Also, they may have change the name of the restaurant. Great service here always. Frequent customers for years since moving to Northville and the workers recognize us and are very friendly. Cost is average for KBBQ. I like that they use an electric stove because the smoke doesn't make you leave smelling like what you ate. All the sides with the meal is excellent. Always my favorite part. Kimchi is 10/10, we all (4) had individual rice, fermented cucumbers and fried tofu were amazing. We ordered multiple servings of thin sliced beef brisket ($23.99 each), and soft tofu stew. 2.5 years later, I'm updating my review for this place. They unfortunately no longer do AYCE (all-you-can-eat) but the food is still pretty good. We had five people tonight (myself, my boyfriend, and three of his friends) and we opted for the $88 combo plate, which included bulgogi, spicy pork, pork belly, and marinated ribs. I don't usually like spicy things but the pork was very good, as were all of the meats. The side dishes weren't as good as other KBBQ places in the area - there was some sort of mac & cheese dish, tofu, a salad, broccoli, kimchi, and others - but no bean sprouts, which is my preference. The combo we got was technically for three people and we ended up ordering a second combo of the same after, too. The bill was about $200 before tip and that also included an order of their dumplings ($8.99, although it says $7.99 on the menu) and two soft drinks. Compared to other places in the area (Chung Ki Wa and Korea Palace, both in Sterling Heights), it's a bit cheaper - I think Chunky, as I call it, was about $100-110 for that amount of food. However, waitservice continues to lag a little bit - we had to flag them down to order more food and also get refills, though sometimes they'd ask us about refills. The combo we ordered was supposed to come with a steamed egg and they never brought it, too - we had to ask about it. Food was good but service was pretty inconsiderate. We asked to sit at the bbq table and we were denied the ability to cook our food, assumingly because we were white, or my friends disability, regardless, the staff did not speak to us in english, unless it was to take our order and they did not say thank you or were kind at all. This was such a terrible experience and it felt extremely demeaning. I felt like a child being told that I was too stupid to be able to use the grill, and I believe that they purposefully didn't refill our drinks so we had to make it last! It's dead here. It's just the two of us, how nice is that. They don't have all you can eat BBQ, although they have their huge banner when you first come in for the all you can eat BBQ. This is the yelp famous grill that shuts off every 10 minutes. There's no exhaust fan here anywhere above the grill. Our clothes and hair will be stinky after this meal. They require masks on until the food comes out, hope the tteokbokki app comes out quick. The banchans, lettuce, salad and bean paste for the meat. The banchans are potato salad with veggies, fried peanuts, cucumber kimchi, spicy tofu and fish cakes. The tteokbokki was okay, not as spicy and maybe slightly on the too sweet side. The spicy chicken meat is rather fatty and not even decently trimmed. We ended up having to do some trimming as we cut it up for the grill. Taste overall is not bad. I would prefer red leaf lettuce as the green leaf lettuce is a bit too coarse and harder to wrap up for consumption. Service was so-so, not the friendliest waitress. Had to ask for more water, then lettuce and then more banchans. Would normally stuff myself during a Korean BBQ and were only able to one serving and portion. They require a minimum of two orders for the BBQ, how annoying is that, knowing two servings was more than enough for the two of us. Service was 5 star. Food was 2 star Ordered dduk gook. It was so salty we couldn't eat it. Like hello, am I in a hidden camera show to see my reaction? I did tell our server and they made another one for me. No questions asked. That's where they get the 5 stars. 2nd dish was Jjajjangmyun. Aka black bean noodle. It was just meh. The vegetables are cut in a machine so finely that it's hard to pick up with the noodles. 3rd dish was dolsot bibimbab. It was just average. Rice could've been a bit dryer not mushy watery so it can make a hard rice on the bottom. The whole point of dolsot. Side dishes was terrible! Don't even bother with ordering the bbq. Not authentic. BEWARE! Im going to start off by saying i was a server and i understand the need for tips. Furthermore i will also include that the food here is great and the atmosphere is good aswell. Customer service? not there strong suit. Me and my boyfriend come here every 2 months or so because its the only way i can feel connected (through the food) to my grandma after her passing. Every time has been impeccable, great service. EXCEPT this one lady. We have had her a couple times and all went well below my expectations but didnt bother me too bad, besides today. We ate our food and paid, looking at the change we got back to determine the tip, and we were going to leave a $20 on our $60 tab and pay with two 10s. Anyways, as we are looking at the bill she is hounding us about "TIP! TIP! YOU NEED TO LEAVE A TIP BEFORE YOU LEAVE" and pointing at the bottom of the receipt where the gratitude presentages are to insure we leave her with a good one. The gratitude said anywhere between $10-$15. Like i said we were going to leave $20 but after this it made my blood boil. Its not a requirement to tip, at all. i couldve left nothing. And never in a million years could i have done this while i was a server. We ended up giving her $11 because she was blocking the door and it made me feel unsafe and i just wanted to leave. Ordered Dae BBQ ... what A waste of $70 for a few thin slices of pork belly and beef, a small bowl of green salad and some small plate of kimchi as side dish. The egg soup was burnt. Not enough people/server, so the service was terrible too. The ladies forget your order and blame the kitchen crew saying they were busy. Jap chae or transparent rice seafood noodle was bland, pricey for a small plate with itsy bits of squid leg and super mini shrimp. Rather eat at Soora, or at the other location in Big Beaver, Troy. Not the best, but decent kbbq. The meat didn't look too fresh, which we assume is from being stored in the marinade for a very long time. The marinade had good flavor but was waaaay too sweet. If it had maybe half the amount of sugar it would have been perfect. Naengmyun was also way too sweet. The broth tasted too much like sugar water. The dressing in the salad was also heavily salted so we had to ask for no dressing. It seemed like everything here, including the side dishes, used lots of sugar and salt because we were all extremely thirsty after our meal. I was hoping that this would be another good Korean restaurant to go to, but unfortunately I wasn't impressed. I ordered the bulgogi dinner "combo", which includes a platter of bulgogi, a couple pieces of vegetables, and a small bowl of white rice. While I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of beef I received, it was just too salty. It didn't necessarily taste that way since the sweet Korean bbq sauce masked it, but I became very thirsty very fast. The amount of rice that came with the meal was not enough to offset the saltiness. My mom ordered a sizzling stone bowl with meat, rice, egg, etc inside. She said it wasn't really hot enough (not sizzling) and it was also pretty small, compared to bowls that we've gotten at other places like Tofu House in Farmington. We ordered a green onion pancake but it had seafood (shrimp) in it...that would be a big issue if someone had seafood allergies, because the menu doesn't mention seafood at all; it literally says "green onion pancake". It was nothing like Chinese green onion pancakes, which are thin, flaky, and crispy. This was dense, soggy, and had way more green onion than pancake...not a fan. Service was subpar. I asked for a tea refill due to my salty bulgogi, but it took about 20 minutes before I got it. The waitresses walked by several times, bringing tea to other customers, before I flagged her down and she said "oh, you want tea?" Based on this experience, it's doubtful I'll be back. read more

Decided to try this place in Novi and that was the last time I will go there. If there is an option for negative ratings I will give this place a negative 3 stars. And that's me being kind. First, they call this a Korean BBQ but they used electric grill. The true Korean BBQ needs to be open flame and/or charcoal. And the grille kept shutting off so it took forever to cook the meats. Was not a pleasant experience. Second, the meats are low quality. Korean BBQ usually pride themselves in serving top notch meat. The meat they served are yucky. Third, with all that you are forced to pay 18% gratuity included in the check. The only upside is the service are friendly. There are much better Korean BBQ in the surrounding area and I won't miss this place if they are closed for good. read more

On GrubHub they are listed as Hola Seoul, so imagine my extreme confusion when I pulled into the lot and saw no restaurant with that name. So. Be warned of that. It is the same as I got my order and the address was the same - just very confusing. I got the tofu taco and the bulgogi taco along with the kimchi fries. The tofu taco was fine. The bulgogi taco was great though. I'd have happily eaten just that. Good flavor and the meat was really tender. The fries were also good. A very fair portion for the price - just wish I had someone to share with! Food was ready and hot when I got there. They were keeping an eye out for me and brought it out before I reached the door. I drive by this corner many times a month, but this is the first time I noticed a Korean restaurant. This appears to be an outpost of Dae Jang Keum in Troy. I love Korean food and was happy to see another one. Pho Lucky is also in this strip mall. The restaurant is not spacious but is well laid out. The kitchen is open and many of the tables have the Korean BBQ grill embedded. The restaurant has been open for 3 weeks and, at the time I walked in, the vast majority of its patrons were Asian. A good sign of good authentic food. I was not very hungry and ordered the Korean Fried Chicken (for carry out) with the hot and spicy glaze. Unlike most places, the boneless chicken was thigh meat, a nice touch. The chicken was very flavorful but hardly the hot and spicy I am used to with Korean cuisine. Yelp did not have this restaurant listed. I will go back next week for a sit down dinner and add to this review. Happy eating. read more

I only get one item everytime I go, and that's been good to eat. I'm not sure why they don't sell hot water or have to go cups but I've been told they don't do that there. There is a tea place in the same parking lot, so maybe you can go there for boba tea afterwards. read more

My friend and I went to DJK for lunch on a weekday. They open at 11 and when I arrived at 11:30, I was the first customer. There was a sign on the door that said something to the effect of - don't come in if you're not wearing a mask. I put on my mask to find the host/ waiter not wearing a mask. I asked him if masks are required and he said the sign is just outdated. If I were him, I would have removed the sign after that discussion, but oh well! I noticed the restaurant was warm and thought maybe the A/C was taking a little while to cool the place. Nope, I was sweating by the end of my meal and it's not because I ate anything spicy! I asked the waiter what types of seafood is in the Seafood BBB and he told me mixed seafood. HAHA! I think I might have made a face because he then said he'd find out. This may change, but today it was shrimp, octopus and it's cousin, squid. I ended up ordering the tofu BBB in a hot stone bowl. The ban chan came out but I didn't eat any of it only because they are not the ban chan items that I like. Too bad as I usually gorge myself on the "all you can eat" ban chan. Shortly after, the BBB came out and it was super hot! YES to crispy rice! But NO to the overdone fried egg! I was hoping for a runny yolk. It was practically a hard boiled egg! I picked out the yolk. Was wandering around looking for somewhere open to eat on a Sunday. My favorite place next door was closed so we wandered over, I was hoping to order from the Hola Seoul menu like we had done a few months back but was informed that's only carry out now. Still hungry we opted for the other menu. We decided on Kalbi beef and Bibimbap. The food came out pretty fast there were only two other tables of people while we were there good hour and half or so during lunch. The Kalbi beef was a decent portion as well as the bibimbap. Took us a awhile before she came back to give us the check, overall not a bad experience but I think I'll just stick to carry out and my other OG Korean spots read more

The food was good! But... there is poor ventilation in the building. Maybe this has changed since my visit, but a few small groups were bbq-ing and there weren't any vents over their grills! There was also a kitchen that was cooking more food and I honestly felt like I couldn't breathe while I dined there. (This was during winter when the doors were closed). I've had better side dishes but the soups were great! I would advise to ask if the item you're ordering is spicy or not because one item we ordered on the menu was surprisingly red when it made its way to our table. We had to order something completely different. (I'm weak sauce when it comes to spicy things). The service is very to the point and a lot of times I had to get up to find a server that would be conversing by the cash register to get a refill on water or extra napkins. My favorite dish was the seafood stew. It was not fishy, flavorful and perfect with some sticky white rice. I would definitely order it again. Overall my experience was decent. Been here during Covid-19 months and was great with only 1 or 2 tables every time. And I enjoyed my marinated shrimps which we're in more lime teriyaki flavor or so. They were 7 big prawns which the shell on them. You would BBQ them and they were amazing. And the service was there all the time, WOW. There were a few veggies to BBQ as well. This time, busy, with more like one server. The usual shrimps came in the small size but more like 15 pieces with tail only on, when asked about the shrimps sheet said that must be somewhere else, LOL. No veggies but 1 onion slice and 1 ring of red pepper. Soup came when food was about all gone, and had fish tails when we specifically asked what kind of fish and asked for no fish, and the server replied, NO FISH?... Never was asked for even if anyone wanted a refill on the water. Never coming back here again. read more

I love the DJG in troy so I was very excited this one opened up close to my work! Upon entrance at noon on a weekday, it was packed! That's always a good sign. You already know it's authentic when most the consumers are Korean (just like DJG in Troy). The service was impeccable the moment we walked in until we left. From the moment we ordered, we got our food in about 15 minutes. I ordered the bulgogi lunch box and everything was delicious. The chicken wing that comes with the lunch box is amazing, and I could order just these alone. My friends ordered the hot stone bibimbop and chicken lunchbox. No complaints from them either! Note that there is no KBBQ for lunch (so we won't smell like Korean food back at work!). Overall, this place is just as delicious as the one in troy and I'm very excited that it's available to me at work and home! read more

Let me get some stuff out of the way first: Soups and stews are OK (soondubu stew was mildly disappointing, kimchi stew was alright). Of the Korean BBQ, I only tried the bulgogi and it was bad. Others at the table had more BBQ than me and they said it was overall OK. Dae Jang Keum also has Cass beer (a Korean beer), which excites me because it's not easy to find Korean beer in Michigan and it reminds me of when I visit my family back in Korea. But the service is TERRRRRIBLE (yes, with 5 F'in Rs). OK, in fairness, we had a primary waitress (middle aged woman) and a secondary waitress (younger woman). The younger woman was nice, but we interacted with her much less than the other waitress. But the older woman was a nightmare. She was rude as hell to me and everybody else at the table. She was pushy regarding how long it took us to order, which wasn't long at all. Took her longer to give us BBQ menus (which we had to ask for 2 times) than it took us to order once we got the menus. WORST OF ALL: We were a group of 7 coworkers and we all paid separately. I paid a 20% tip, which is my default. Two others paid somewhere between 15-20%... AND THE WAITRESS MADE THEM WAIT AND INCREASE THE TIP TO AT LEAST 20%. Well guess what? If your service is shit, sometimes you get less than 20%. If you're wondering why my coworkers would have put up with that, you'll just have to refer to Korean culture and respecting elders and all that. I didn't hear about the tip complaint until we got in the car. They didn't admit that they increased their tips because of this woman's demands until even later. Dae Jang Keum, your service is shit. Or maybe the service is good overall, but that one woman is shit. Don't care. That was the first and last time we we'll be there. If you want good Korean food in the area, you'll have a much better experience at Soora in West Bloomfield, which has excellent food and service. K-BBQ in Canton is really good too (not really BBQ though, despite their name - more so Korean street food). Macheko Grill in Ypsi is really good too. Just about any Korean restaurant in Ann Arbor is somewhere between good and excellent. read more

The place looks good. The buffet korean bbq is pretty cool. The time frame is not enough though, since the grill automatically turns off and stays off for like 10 to 15 minutes. Which count against your time. I think that time needs to be added to the buffet time or just needs to be 3 hours to make up for it. The marinated meat is good and tasty. The non marinated meat is bland. They also have korean soju and other liquor. This place is the only korean bbq buffet around so just gotta deal with it. The location is nice since ding tea is in the same plaza, lucky pho is next door, and a ramen shop is there as well. read more

I love a good Korean BBQ. While I'm amature at best, I enjoy the experience. I found this restaurant based off reviews and was slightly hesitant but thought I'd give it a shot anyways! Pros: Our waitress was quick, through and tentative. She brought the banchan before we even ordered. I don't like the texture of gyeran jjim but I tried it anyways and it tastes similar to others I've had. The radish was gone instantly. The food was delicious! The BBQ chicken and Bulgogi was marinated perfectly. I enjoy cooking my food because I prefer my bulgogi slightly crispy. I also asked for seconds on the kimchi. My mother (who was hesitant to go initially) said she loved the food! Even the hard to please 10 year old child ate, success. Con: The restaurant does not have vents above the grills so the smoke lingers. Upon receiving the check, I was asked to cash out almost immediately so I felt slightly rushed.
