It was a beautiful weekend so we decided to trek upstate to be in the outdoors. We got a little hungry on our way up so we decided to stop at this retro diner. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and my boyfriend had the Taco Salad. Nothing too special about the dishes but they were tasty nonetheless. True, there isn't much else around to compare to or compete with but, all in all Dad's does a fine job with their food prep and service. Their wings have received raves and I have enjoyed many hearty breakfasts there (the Hungry Man special works best for me). Everything else offered seems just fine but not outstanding. Dad's is a wonderful touch of local diner experience with an extra touch of the 50's theme. Seasonally they offer outdoor/take out ice cream service in the rear of the restaurant which deservingly draws a lot of business. When they run out of stock in the early fall that window is closed until spring. If you find yourself in Copake don't hesitate to stop in at Dad's for a meal any time of the day. If I had a better GPS I never would have found this little gem of a diner. We stopped mid afternoon on a Sat. There was only one customer at the time making me pause, but....first of all it is a retro diner with a 50's theme and it is in great shape and very clean. My wife ordered shiitake fries. They came out quickly and were unbelievably good. A grilled chicken wrap followed and was equally as good. I had a grilled ham and Swiss on sourdough bread. It was absolutely delicious. The night before I ate at a fine Italian restaurant, on Long Island. I would take this food over that any time and be richer for the experience. Simple quick food, good service. We stay in the Copake area each year and visit Dad's for a couple of meals each trip, usually for breakfast. The interior is decorated with loads of retro americana. The food is good standard diner fare. The prices are good as well. Two eggs with toast and potatoes runs $2.79. read more

Took ride tonite w wife,Southern Columbia County.Discovered Dad,s Diner in Copake N Y.Wife ordered a Burger melt on toasted rye.I ordered a bacon cheeseburger deluxe.Both were surprisingly good.Good size burgers,done perfectly,adornments fresh even the cole slaw.Thank goodnest we got their before 5:30PM.Shortly after the place filled up w/I I,d say 15 minutes.Nice,clean,retro diner.Location as little off the beaten path,but a pleasant drive nonetheless.With two sodas bill came to w tax $25.62.Service was exceptional,drinks and meal,left 20% tip for waitress.Don,t know if they accept credit or debit cards as I paid cash.We will return, due to this experience. read more

My party of 11 came in late on Sunday evening, during a holiday weekend ,(and about an hour before closing time ) and the staff could not be any more accommodating or patient with our big , loud , hungry Brooklyn / Queens family ! Not only did we have a TODDLER and a few TEENAGERS with us but also someone who suffers from SEVERAL FOOD ALLERGIES. Yikes!! right?? Nope. Not here! To say that the waitress was caring, concerned, smart and thoughtful would be an understatement! She and the rest of the staff truly made us all feel very comfortable, welcome and safe . Thank you Colleen for the multiple trips to the kitchen to double check all of the ingredients with your chef ! There was a major void in Copake after The Hub closed that was happily filled by Dad's Diner. We have eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner here many, many times. The food tastes like homemade comfort food and Is moderately priced. The portions are good.... certainly not Long Island diner sized portions (we're spoiled) but satisfying.... never any leftovers to take home. The onion appetizer is great and the pie and ice cream are delicious. The service is efficient and always delivered with a smile. The restaurant is extremely clean. Only wish Dad's would greet us with a bread basket (can't be that expensive) and the pickles and cole slaw we get at Long Island diners. read more

The 4 star rating is for the small town diner award. I've eaten in many and it doesn't get any better than this place. I visit it periodically while having my Morgan (auto, not horse) serviced down the road at Morgan Spares. Food is always fresh, delicious, served in a timely manor, the place is spotless, the waitresses very pleasant and genuine, and there are enough choices on the menu so one doesn't get bored. Awful experience! What a disappointment! I never get up and leave but today was different. After getting seated and waiting for sometime our beverage order was taken by the hostess. In the meantime, two other tables were seated. Finally the actual waitress came out and made a flip comment about how we hadn't been forgotten. She proceeded to take the other two tables order. At this point the service was so obviously bad that I paid for my soda and left. I don't know if the food was good or not since the service was so bad I didn't bother to wait around to find out.
