Our waitress was super friendly, and since it was our first time, she took her time explaining the menu and answering our questions, which we really appreciated. The food was excellent across the board. Everything we ordered was flavorful, and even the sides stood out. I highly recommend the yams and the mac and cheese, both were good. We started with the gumbo, which was tasty and for our mains we had the oxtail and fish. Both were cooked well and full of flavor. The ambiance was another highlight. The vibe was relaxed and cool, with good R&B music playing in the background. This made the whole experience feel enjoyable and laid-back. One thing to note: parking is mandatory valet, but it's tip-based only. Overall, Roc South Cuisine is a great spot with great food, great service, and a solid vibe. Definitely worth checking out.

Pick up: it use to be that you pulled up to the side door and someone would bring you order. Idk if that has changed but after waiting, then calling and being placed in a long, I just went inside and got it myself. Food: the portion size of the catfish was underwhelming for the price. I use to get 2-3 large fillets and this time I got 3 small ones. It comes with two sides, so I ordered - The mac n cheese was okay. I've def had better from them. You use to be able to add candied yams as a side but their menu has changed and it's not one of the included sides any more. The second side was cabbage and it wasn't really seasoned well. I could see and taste pepper, but that was it.

They kept the spicy margaritas flowing, and let me tell you those drinks have just enough kick to make you rethink your life choices in the best way possible. Now, let's talk about this food, because I'm pretty sure I heard angels singing. The Fried Wings were fried to such perfection I'm convinced the chef has a PhD in crunch-ology. The Yams! These sweet potatoes were clearly touched by the Candy Lady herself. I don't know if it's sugar or magic, but I'm addicted. The Mac and Cheese! It was so perfect I almost asked it to marry me. My husband, went the "responsible" route with the baked turkey wing, green beans, and yellow rice. That turkey was falling off the bone like it was tired of being an overachiever, and the green beans had more flavor than my entire childhood. Even the rice was seasoned like it had a point to prove. Bottom line: If you're looking for us, we'll be here. This isn't just a meal, it's a spiritual experience. If "Soul Food" is the question, this place is the only answer.

She was on point and brought everything out as requested. The ambience was great. They played beautiful music, and had nice scenery and selfy spots. The only thing that was bad was the floors were sticky. The restrooms were clean, and the food was very good. My favorite were the fried green tomatoes. I would definitely love to have them again. I also had the shrimp and grits. It was seasoned well. And the shrimp was a great size. The drinks were on point only really need 1 to have yo feeling nice! It was happy hour which is from 4pm to 8 pm. We had the classic margarita and it was only five dollars. So, great price. Overall, my experience was pretty good at Platez

My mothers and I visited Platez last night for a nice dinner out before a show. We didn't have a…read morereservation, but was seated immediately. There was some confusion on where to enter the building due to lack of signage, but we figured it out. Upon entering, I immediately was overwhelmed by how loud the music was. I have sensory issues and asked if we could be seated outside, but was told that there was a party outside. We were seated inside and no one in my group could hear each other speak the whole time we ate due to how loud the music was. We couldn't hear the server either. Our server immediately gave us menus, silverware, and waters. He didn't introduce himself or really say much of anything. We were left to look at the menus for 5-10 minutes. Upon looking at the menus, we were extremely disappointed to see that much of what we came for was not available due to it being a brunch item. This was not communicated ANYWHERE on the website and we would not have chosen to dine here had we known. We chose to stay and eat due to already paying $10 for parking across the street. Once we came to terms with the fact that we would not be eating french toast or waffles, we began looking at the menu to decide what to order. It was then that I noticed how expensive everything was. The food is even more expensive than the menu on the website, and the item that I decided upon - the catfish and grits - was $30. This is unreasonably expensive for what it was and I would have priced it at about $18 to be generous. We ended up waiting about 40 minutes for our food and eventually my catfish and grits and my mother's shrimp and grits were served. The sauce around the grits was cold, and the grits themselves weren't super hot. It was obvious that they had been sitting while the fish and shrimp was being cooked. The portion itself was too much to eat in one sitting and grits are not something that would reheat well so we left them instead of trying to take them home. When our grits were served, the waiter told us my step-mother's smothered pork chop would be right out. It did not come for another 10 minutes. One of her sides was a salad, but not even that was brought out. While my mother and I's grits were phenomenal in flavor, my step-mother's pork chop was barely edible. She said that it was tough, especially when she was not provided anything more than a butter knife to cut with, and the gravy on top was so salty that I gagged upon tasting it. It tasted like gravy mix from a packet that was combined with the drippings from a meat that had already been seasoned. My step-mother prefers things to be more salty, but even she had to peel the breading off to be able to eat the pork chop. Keep in mind, this was also about $30. Our service was poor. The waiter didn't introduce himself, as I said, and he did not ask if we wanted anything more than water to drink. He was barely able to be heard over the loud music, but he also didn't say much. He did not check up on us during our meal or say anything while we waited 40+ minutes for our food. And when we went up to the cash register to pay our bill, we were left standing there for about 5 minutes while various servers and workers walked by and went behind the register without even acknowledging our presence. This was very off-putting and a terrible way to end a lackluster dinning experience. Upon paying our bill, we were forced to pay a mandatory 15% tip and a 7% service fee. And then they had the audacity to ask for an additional tip despite their poor service. We all left Platez feeling very disappointed, despite how delicious my mother and I's grits were. We all had the sentiment that we would have had a better time eating at Waffle House because we went for brunch food in the first place. Platez is (in my opinion) horribly overpriced and the service was terrible. I try to be positive, but I would never come here again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

If you are concerned about pricing, this is not the place for you. The chicken is fried fresh to order. Mostly everything fried is. The building is clean, with a nice outdoor seating area. I think most people are harsh critics on soul food because it's not made how their grandmother or momma cooks it. The quality and portions are worth it. As a caregiver they help me out from time to time with home cooked meals alleviating one less task on my plate. I thank them for being in the community.

Unfortunately, I should have stuck with Busy B's. This was my first order from Soul Food Cafe, and it will definitely be my last. I ordered the smothered pork chops with broccoli cheese casserole and macaroni and cheese. I also tried the cube steak, cornbread dressing, and fried chicken. Honestly, the entire meal was a huge disappointment. The rice that came with the pork chops was undercooked, which was surprising because no restaurant should be serving rice that isn't fully cooked. The cube steak and cornbread dressing were not enjoyable at all, and the fried chicken was bland and lacked flavor. I'm genuinely confused by all of the great reviews because my experience was the complete opposite. Based on the meal I received, I can't recommend this restaurant. Busy B's may be more expensive, but in my opinion, they're worth every penny because the quality and flavor are consistently there. Unfortunately, Soul Food Cafe was a complete miss for me. Based on my experience, I would give it 0 stars.
