I go to Melton's along with another colleague from the Atlanta Philharmonic every late Tuesday afternoon, prior to rehearsals across the street from North Decatur Presbyterian Church. Ambient noise level is low. Casual setting. Bar room with some tables, separate dining room plus some outdoor seating as well. Serving staff is friendly and very efficient. Love their regular menu as well as their daily specials. I cannot speak about alcoholic beverages as I don't drink, but other diners around us seem to be pleased. read more

I dropped in on a weekend afternoon and sat at the bar. Within the first few minutes I was expecting Jon Taffer to come in with cameras to start the rescue. It may not be fair to judge an establishment by its patrons, but Mary and Peter should be banned. It was clear they are regulars. I still don't know if they were over-served or just dickheads everyday. But if I wanted to hear someone sing badly, I'll go find a karaoke spot. These two were just full of "pull my finger" jokes and other obnoxious wit. I did consider just walking out. Now for the rest of the review: The menu is fine, but dinner menu is served on a loose paper, as are the drink menu but it's on a clipboard with multiple pages. I opted for a hamburger with waffle fries. I ordered Med-well, but received Med-rare. The bottom bun was disintegrating as it was saturated in grease. The waffle fries are solid and two people ordered the Irish Nachos to-go while I was there so they may be the star. My fries were served with a mayo-hot sauce mixture that was just okay. I really wished my experience was better because there is so much here I normally would like: local, neighborhood dive, music, tv. But this was a one-and-done for me. It was pretty tasty, definitely would get it again but at the appropriate time so I don't fall asleep at work. The service was good, seemed like they had plenty of people on staff. It may look small from the outside, but there is tons of seating indoors and out. The staff is all local and never skip a chance to get to know you. They know the menu well. Some of the items the restaurant is known for is their stellar burger (ranked way up there!), Irish Nachos (think waffle fries, cheese, ranch, bacon, yumminess), cheese puffs, veggie burger, plus all of the things! Came in the other day and they still going down hill. Their prices have gone through the roof, got servers and managers with their hair down and on their shoulders (health code violation). They had dead flowers in their back room on display in March so that was a nice representation of how my hopes for this place being better is dying. They used to have mint out front but even a plant that can survive winter and most bad storms can't stay alive at this place. Maybe they will become a laundromat or wheel house will buy them out so it will have more parking. read more

I was in Decatur and was HUNGRY. I did a quick Yelp search for Sports Bars Near Me, and this spot looked good. It was real close to my location, so I made the quick drive over. It's not really a Sports Bar per se, but they have a bar with 2 TVs and a good selection of draft beers. They actually have on of my faves on tap, Cigar City Maduro Brown Ale! Definitely ordered one. Bartender was friendly and gave me a menu and a list of their daily specials. I took a quick look and decided on the French Dip sub w/a side of chili. Both were pretty good. I and a few of the ladies I attend church with have been coming here about every 6 months for a couple of years now. I also brought my children here several times. Two of my granddaughters who live very close by turned me back on to Meltons once I moved closer to the Decatur area again. As the name suggests, Meltons has plenty of appetizers and beer varieties. We always start with the cheese puffs. My favorite entree is their creole pasta. The shrimp always tastes fresh and the cream sauce is so rich! My granddaughters usually order their hotdogs (which are so big we usually need a takeout container to take them home). Their signature waffle fries and bleu cheese sauce can be hit-or-miss so we usually get them extra crispy. Wait service at Melton's is almost always great too. Sayid is our favorite waiter. He always greets me and my friends at the door and escorts us to our table. We have been coming here so often that he usually already knows what we want to eat and drink. We will usually try to ask for him if he is working that day. Due to a cataract, I read the menu very slowly, but he is always very patient and understanding with me. The atmosphere is very relaxed there. They have two rooms with plenty of tables and they are always ready with a large table when I have my whole family together to eat. There is a TV in every direction you look. They have rustic beer signs and UGA memorabilia hung on the walls adorned with colorful Christmas-like lights and dim overhead lighting. It would be a wonderful place for a date, but so so much for reading. Melton's also has a fabulous variety of local and imported beer. My husband is always excited to see what the new drafts are! He almost always receives good service at the bar. He is very fond of their 2 new bartenders, Matt and Benji. The bar regulars can be a bit too boisterous (especially during Braves games) for my taste but the spirit always seems to be high. The female manager with long, curly brown hair though can be quite impatient and curt with customers. My husband usually does not sit at the bar when she is there. Got to dine here for a birthday dinner and the staff was beyond excellent! This place has actually been the birthday boy's favorite restaurant for a long time. I was able to experience why. I started out with a basket of "cheese puffs" which were amazing! They taste like Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits, but more bite size, and come with marinara sauce. The serving size was a little large for me, but easy to share and I took most of it home. For dinner I had their superfood salad with tarragon chicken, which was awesome! This was the first time I had a superfood salad hot and it was great -- super healthy and tasty. The tarragon chicken was a nice addition. The food was alright and I will get to that in a minute, but what I really loved about this place, and I mean really loved was the atmosphere. Restaurants can buy décor, buy space, hire a decorator, hire a marketer, create a theme and anything else but you cannot buy a truly authentic welcoming atmosphere. It's something that is created beyond just well wishes of a restaurant owner. This place has that and I don't have the words to describe how great and welcoming the atmosphere is here. First it is a place that is truly welcoming to anyone. That is rare in bars. They have a great bar area and a great separate dining room. I saw families there that fit right in, business people on a lunch, single diners grabbing a bite, housewives catching up and older gentleman there to drink the day away. It was electric and everyone felt at home. The servers here are so friendly and warm and inviting. All young ladies when I was there, but they helped each other out, was casual, very friendly but really on point with every part of service as well. I didn't feel like anyone was putting on a front to try and be nice to people. They were just genuinely honest and nice to every customer. Finally, I did think the food was good. No real complaints but could throw out a few suggestions. I wanted a burger when I came in. They only have one basic burger on the menu. No problem because they have lots of other sandwich choices which also look fantastic and is varied enough to fit any taste. I still went with the burger. I ordered to medium. So the middle of the burger was medium but the edges had gone past the nice crust stage to charred and a bit too much. The bite in the middle of the burger was perfect, but the edges had too much of a burnt taste. A really simple grill press on top the burger on the flat top would prove to give a consistent burger temp throughout. I loved the shredded lettuce on there which was placed on the bottom to create a barrier between the burger juices and the bun. The tomato was nice and I added cheese which was perfectly melted on top. Back to the burger itself, I am guessing they form in house? It was a bit of an odd shape. Also on a few bites there was diced onion inside the meat. Not bad, just a surprise especially for how big the dice was. Burger was decent and good I just felt like it needed one step more. Maybe butter on a toasted bun, seasoning in the burger meat, a sharper chedder cheese, green leaf instead of iceberg, larger onion slice, maybe pickles on there. Something in there to bring the flavor up from decent to good or great. On my next trip I would probably try a different sandwich but don't get me wrong, while I had suggestions, it was still a good burger. In summary the atmosphere and amazing service is unsurpassed in this place. This alone would draw me back. What an incredible and great neighborhood hangout joint that everyone is welcome in. read more

There is both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a full bar. There take out is extradentary as well, my coworkers and I often order lunch from here because the portion sizes are perfect and they always have your food ready so fast and on time. My top recommendations from the menu are the Irish nachos, pasta Florentine and the gourmet BLT. I also must mention they have a fantastic selection of taps as well! We ordered the Cheese Puffs Basket ($7.50) for the table and we devoured them. The come with marinara sauce but they are tasty with ketchup as well. For lunch, I ordered the Turkey Club ($10.50) and I throughly enjoyed it. I ordered it with a side of waffle fries and they were nice and crispy. I ordered the chicken pasta dish. I was very pleased by the quality of the food for the price. I went with my girlfriend and we ordered the same dish. The meal was a total of $25 including drinks and both meals. The food was flavorful and had the perfect amount of seasoning. I only wish the small piece of bread was toasted as well. The restaurant was small and clean. I liked the environment and how they adhered to Covid regulations by spacing apart the seated parties. The large Irish nachos seemed to be the most popular, and the bf and I can see why. The waffle fries were a nice change from the usual chips, and the mountain of fries with other loaded goodies took 4 people to finish. The brisket burger was juicy and flavorful. About time I got back here - my previous few visits were all pre-renovation, years ago. Back then, my opinion was that Melton's is a surprisingly nice neighborhood bar with pretty decent food, if a bit heavy on the fried. Post-renovation, that opinion stands. I need to come here more often. The menu is great - lots to chose from - but we were hankering for nachos. They have a few nacho choices, but none were what we really wanted - a Texas-style nacho plate: chips with lots of melted cheese and generous jalapenos. Maybe some black beans. However, we found if you order Melton's Chicken & Bean nachos and hold the chicken, we'd be happy. That said, the Irish nachos seem like a must-try. Another time. We also were happy with the salmon salad. Maybe the salmon could have been kicked up a notch, but very nice overall. Apple pie and ice cream is awesome. Good draft beer list here and I really like how they present the choices on their board. Easy to read even for these tired eyes. It's the details that make a difference sometimes. Super friendly bar service and super quick and efficient food delivery. Although I like sitting at the bar while in a pub, my only criticism here is the design of the bartop itself. I don't like the swoopy, rounded, raised edge thing. It makes it harder to rest your elbows, as you should at the bar. Easy parking until it fills up. Not sure where you go then. We just recently started eating here. But the burgers are amazing! And it seems like everything that we've had from here is good.

We have been going here for about 30 years. I remember when they changed their bread/buns from the fresh bakery rolls. Well, in December we were in with our kids and they changed their chicken tenders. The tenders and the nachos are the two things that have kept us coming back for so many years. My kids- now in their 20s- were so disappointed they have no desire to return. Please, Melton's, bring back the old tenders so I can come back for the nachos! read more

I do understand how inflation works, but this place operates a few percentage points above that. This has been my go to spot for years you have to try the creole seafood pasta. Make sure you get some extra sauce on the side to make sure that it doesn't get dry also get a order of the mini cheese puff bites to go with it. This place is the epitome of a neighborhood pub that happens to be family friendly. They have a great selection of craft beers - mine's Weihenstephaner which happens to come in its special glass :) I am addicted to their buffalo tenders and waffle fries (Chik-fil-a be warned)! I recently moved to Medlock Park and Melton's is one of my only walkable options, or at least the easiest. I have been trying to love it but the food has been really bad. I've tried the nachos and the French dip and both were dry, bland, and just not good, even for bar food. A friend had another sandwich and didn't really enjoy that either. The beer is reasonably priced though, so if you just need a beer after a long day, this is a decent option. read more
