This restaurant is fairly new to the Avondale Estates area. After passing this place a few times, I decided to come straight here after work. The ambience is clean, bright and very welcoming. I used the kiosk to place my order. I ordered the quarter bird with the Apple custard for dessert. I forgot to order a drink, but the owner was gracious enough to make a half limeade with sweet tea on the house. Everything was delicious! Finally got to try this place after passing their sign for months waiting for them to open. They had a person working the front counter to answer questions, but you order from the kiosk. Decor was clean & minimal, a lot of seating. I got the mild tenders and mash w/ gravy for a side. Everything is made fresh to order, tenders were sitting on a slice of white bread with a pickle slice on each tender. Looked promising as the tenders a well-coated, but the flavor fell a little flat. I think if they had more salt to the mix, it would properly magnify the flavors on the chicken. I faintly tasted some sweetness and the mild was not hot. The tenders were a nice size. The mash potatoes were ok. The texture was too silky and was soupy when mixed with the gravy. Clearly boxed mashed, but the gravy was decent. Went in at about 11:15, which is just after opening and the store was empty was the only customer and was actually order number 1. The space itself is nice. Not too big and well decorated, slight vintage appeal. But let's be honest we're here for the food not the decor; and the lack of any salt in the food is crazy. I ordered the Cajun fries thinking they would be "well seasoned" but it was just unsalted spicy seasoning!! The chicken was just spicy with a tiny sweetness but zero salt. Unless I missed the sign that stated salt your own food yall missed on seasoning. Thankfully on a whim i grabbed 2 salt packets on the way out but that barely took care of the fries. And the most diabolical part YALL GAVE ME THE BUTT END OF THE BREAD!!! I've ate a lot of food and cook a lot of food. Serving someone the but end is absolutely insane!!! After the 20+ mins | waited no one could get salt or a real slice of bread?!?! The "cook" claims it's delicious or he covers the meal. Well this meal was not delicious and after making not of that they don't reply. While you can't debate spice levels or preference no salt is no salt, and leaves the entire meal falling flat. Had I known the order time would have ordered in advance to dine in but made that mistake and had to take the food to go. I can't debate it was hot and freshly cooked. But that was where the satisfaction ended. Update. Refund was only offered after leaving a honest 2 star public review. Before leaving a public review they refused to reply on social media. Claiming they were not online when in fact they were active everyday because ig tells you when someone is online/or the last time they were. He also claimed it was due to new staffing that I had a poor experience yet it was there "chef" Patrick who was the only person in the kitchen. So the main chef delivered a poor experience not a new employee. After offering the refund he then used it as a bargaining chip/bribe and asked me to remove the review or update it with a higher rating for the $11 refund which instated I would not do because the poor experience was still accurate. Honestly so good. Their motto for their chicken is crispy juicy bold and elevated and it is all 4 if those. Everything is made to order. This was probably the crispiest chicken I've ever had. The skin is so crisp but not burnt. The dark meat half chicken took 17 min to cook and they preface that before you order it. It was worth the wait because it was so fresh and juicy. The Sando can get messy, but it also it worth the mess. We got medium spice for both items and it wasn't too spicy. The Cajun fries were alright. I'd come back for their happy hour deal because it's so worth it. The staff was real nice too. They give free water too. read more

Nice addition to the downtown Decatur area. Due to it raining cats and dogs I ordered DoorDash and it did not disappoint. The half chicken meal was very filling and reasonably priced. I opted for the medium spice just to stay on the safe side. One sauce came with it, I chose the rooster sauce. It puts you in the mind of a Zaxby's sauce, but better. I also opted for an additional sauce for .50, which was the house made ranch--delicious and fresh. Lastly, I chose the red beans for my side which was well seasoned and also good. Wishing they offered rice with the red beans, but that's not a negative and won't stop me from patronizing them. If you're in the area be sure to check them out. read more

I visited on 1-10-2026. I initially was not even looking for this place on my radar. My mom asked me could I take her to her hair appointment so I did for the first time her beautician is at a new location because she used to be at the Kroger on memorial drive that closed down. The shop is literally next door to this place so I had to visit. The cashier is cool he took my order and explained some items to me.I tried the mild sandwich which is delicious! I'm really not a fan of spicy and hot in flavor food like that. I got the original basic sandwich with a side of tots. My sauce that I chose is the soy mix with honey mustard I believe. One of the best delicious chicken sandwiches I ever tasted. My compliments to the chef! Pull up and check them out. Definitely worth the trip you will not be disappointed. read more

The BEST hot chicken sandwich in Atlanta! I love when the chicken sandwiches are hot and flavorful.

The chicken is big and juicy, the skin is flavorful and crunchy, and the sides are great, too. Prices and portions are reasonable, especially if you order a half chicken meal. Larger side portions would be nice, but overall an ideal local spot for take out or dine in. Much better in flavor and quantity than many nearby dinner options. The people who work there are helpful and easygoing. So far, it's my favorite interruption of the weekday leftovers. read more

Pepper roost was soooo good. I can't recommend the rooster sauce enough. I ordered a three piece, medium spice chicken tender with double fries with rooster sauce and ranch. As a ranch lover, the ranch was good but what sold me was the rooster sauce. It was sweet and spicy without it being too peppery. I loved it sooo much. The tenders were also not too spicy for medium and so I think the spice levels are accurate. I got pick up and the service was fast. I also loved the theme inside the restaurant and it is a good place to dine in!! I will say one thing I would've loved is dill pickles and not bread and butter pickles but that's a preference. My colleagues and I went for lunch during the soft opening and we had a great meal. Ambiance: They did a really nice job on the buildout, it gave me modern metro station vibes. This used to be a Subway sandwich location and you would never be able to tell. They have both booths and tables, and we sat in a booth that could easily fit a party of 6. You can order on the kiosks or you can order with a staff member. There is a water station if you don't purchase a soft drink. They sell cans, no soda fountain. They have tv screens and they were playing 2010s alt rock. It was a vibe for sure. The staff member taking orders was super nice and friendly and gave really helpful tips and answers when we asked questions. Food: I opted to get a 2 tenders meal with cheese fries (.99 cent upgrade). They have bone in chicken quarters, half chickens, wings, tenders, 2 different kinds of chicken sandwiches, and a catfish sandwich. They have a very good range of spice levels to accommodate everyone, from no spice to flamin rooster (the hottest). I got the medium spice level and I would say it was a true medium. It was enough to create a small burn in my mouth and make my nose sniffly but my eyes did not tear up. I definitely want to try the hot next time. In addition to the cheese fries, the meal came with 4 sweet pickle slices, a cup of sauce, and a slice of white bread under the chicken to keep the breading crispy. The portions are VERY generous. These tenders were huge and I could see someone getting full off the cheese fries or chili cheese tots alone. The cheese fries were coated in a nacho cheese style sauce and had a little bit of kick to them. I was happy with the flavor and the amount of cheese, there were almost no dry spots but at the same time they weren't drowned. The pickles were nice and sweet and while I usually don't like pickles like these I thought they were very yummy and went excellently with the meal. The chicken tenders were huge and juicy. They weren't saucy, and they were a little sweet. You can tell that they are handmade and fresh for sure, these are not factory frozen par-cooked tenders that come out of a bag. I got a cup of the homemade ranch sauce and it was a nice refreshing taste, sweet and dill-forward. I think I will try the rooster sauce next time instead though. I ate all of my food and was totally stuffed. I am looking forward to returning soon and trying more of the food. My colleague got the chicken sandwich and it has slaw on it and it looks really good, but also I am interested in trying the catfish sandwich. I've been driving by almost every day since I moved back to Decatur in late August. "Pepper Roost." For a lover of hot chicken, it sounded promising. But would it be worth the long wait? Well, it has finally opened. IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT. Delicious, perfectly seasoned, with your choice of heat. I choose chicken and a fish sandwich. I had the sandwich for lunch. It was moist, perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. I had the beans as a side. They were wonderful as well. I saved the chicken for dinner. It was as good - in fact, I think better - as any chicken I've ever had at Hattie B's. This is one happy, heat loving, southern boy. Can't wait to eat here again. Tomorrow? If you like hot fried chicken you have to try this spot. Not like Nashville hot, not like Korean fried, not buffalo hot -- this is something totally different and absolutely addictive. The chicken is fried to order and come out crunchy with a dry rub spice that is nuanced and HOT. We had the quarter dark plate and the sandwich with the cheese tots and the slaw as sides. We tried all three sauces. Sandwich is the way to go - balanced with pickles, slaw, and two sauces every bite is divine. The slaw here is something special -- purple cabbage, ginger, and something addictive I can't put my finger on keeps you coming back for more and cools your mouth off between bites.
