Mash & gravy - gravy is decent, mash is meh

Finally got to try this place after passing their sign for months waiting for them to open. They had a person working the front counter to answer questions, but you order from the kiosk. Decor was clean & minimal, a lot of seating. I got the mild tenders and mash w/ gravy for a side. Everything is made fresh to order, tenders were sitting on a slice of white bread with a pickle slice on each tender. Looked promising as the tenders a well-coated, but the flavor fell a little flat. I think if they had more salt to the mix, it would properly magnify the flavors on the chicken. I faintly tasted some sweetness and the mild was not hot. The tenders were a nice size. The mash potatoes were ok. The texture was too silky and was soupy when mixed with the gravy. Clearly boxed mashed, but the gravy was decent. I'm curious about the catfish sandwich, but not running back to try it.

Honestly so good. Their motto for their chicken is crispy juicy bold and elevated and it is all 4 if those. Everything is made to order. This was probably the crispiest chicken I've ever had. The skin is so crisp but not burnt. The dark meat half chicken took 17 min to cook and they preface that before you order it. It was worth the wait because it was so fresh and juicy. The Sando can get messy, but it also it worth the mess. We got medium spice for both items and it wasn't too spicy. The Cajun fries were alright. I'd come back for their happy hour deal because it's so worth it. The staff was real nice too. They give free water too.

Went in at about 11:15, which is just after opening and the store was empty was the only customer and was actually order number 1. The space itself is nice. Not too big and well decorated, slight vintage appeal. But let's be honest we're here for the food not the decor; and the lack of any salt in the food is crazy. I ordered the Cajun fries thinking they would be "well seasoned" but it was just unsalted spicy seasoning!! The chicken was just spicy with a tiny sweetness but zero salt. Unless I missed the sign that stated salt your own food yall missed on seasoning. Thankfully on a whim i grabbed 2 salt packets on the way out but that barely took care of the fries. And the most diabolical part YALL GAVE ME THE BUTT END OF THE BREAD!!! I've ate a lot of food and cook a lot of food. Serving someone the but end is absolutely insane!!! After the 20+ mins | waited no one could get salt or a real slice of bread?!?! The "cook" claims it's delicious or he covers the meal. Well this meal was not delicious and after making not of that they don't reply. While you can't debate spice levels or preference no salt is no salt, and leaves the entire meal falling flat. Had I known the order time would have ordered in advance to dine in but made that mistake and had to take the food to go. I can't debate it was hot and freshly cooked. But that was where the satisfaction ended. Update. Refund was only offered after leaving a honest 2 star public review. Before leaving a public review they refused to reply on social media. Claiming they were not online when in fact they were active everyday because ig tells you when someone is online/or the last time they were. He also claimed it was due to new staffing that I had a poor experience yet it was there "chef" Patrick who was the only person in the kitchen. So the main chef delivered a poor experience not a new employee. After offering the refund he then used it as a bargaining chip/bribe and asked me to remove the review or update it with a higher rating for the $11 refund which instated I would not do because the poor experience was still accurate. Personal opinion is proceed with caution and expect to salt your own food. If you have a poor experience they will offer ample excuses instead of take accountability

    Red beans - side

Nice addition to the downtown Decatur area. Due to it raining cats and dogs I ordered DoorDash and it did not disappoint. The half chicken meal was very filling and reasonably priced. I opted for the medium spice just to stay on the safe side. One sauce came with it, I chose the rooster sauce. It puts you in the mind of a Zaxby's sauce, but better. I also opted for an additional sauce for .50, which was the house made ranch--delicious and fresh. Lastly, I chose the red beans for my side which was well seasoned and also good. Wishing they offered rice with the red beans, but that's not a negative and won't stop me from patronizing them. If you're in the area be sure to check them out.

I visited on 1-10-2026. I initially was not even looking for this place on my radar. My mom asked me could I take her to her hair appointment so I did for the first time her beautician is at a new location because she used to be at the Kroger on memorial drive that closed down. The shop is literally next door to this place so I had to visit. The cashier is cool he took my order and explained some items to me.I tried the mild sandwich which is delicious! I'm really not a fan of spicy and hot in flavor food like that. I got the original basic sandwich with a side of tots. My sauce that I chose is the soy mix with honey mustard I believe. One of the best delicious chicken sandwiches I ever tasted. My compliments to the chef! Pull up and check them out. Definitely worth the trip you will not be disappointed.

Good food. Decent price. I will be back. Gonna take advantage of the BOGO. Chicken was juicy and just the right spice.

Hot Chicken Sando and Catfish Sando

I Wish I had photographed this hot chicken Sando and catfish Sando because I never yelp food and didn't expect this to be such a life changing meal. 100% made with love and you could taste it in every bite. So good, so freaking good. Thank you!!

Pepper roost was soooo good. I can't recommend the rooster sauce enough. I ordered a three piece, medium spice chicken tender with double fries with rooster sauce and ranch. As a ranch lover, the ranch was good but what sold me was the rooster sauce. It was sweet and spicy without it being too peppery. I loved it sooo much. The tenders were also not too spicy for medium and so I think the spice levels are accurate. I got pick up and the service was fast. I also loved the theme inside the restaurant and it is a good place to dine in!! I will say one thing I would've loved is dill pickles and not bread and butter pickles but that's a preference. The fries were a little cold when I got home but I think if I were to dine in it would have been hot

    Tenders (hot)

Tried Pepper Roost and it didn't disappoint. As someone who frequently eats hot chicken, I cannot express how hot the "hot" is. There are two levels above and I cannot imagine the heat. Would recommend!

It's a walk up window spot with the menu and a bell, when you're ready to order, ring the bell. The service is friendly and succinct. Non invasive and just helpful without asking when needed. The seating area is a mix between covered and uncovered, with a small speaker playing contemporary tunes at a respectable level. There are string lights above, and I can only imagine how beautiful this all looks at night. I'd read a LOT about their fish sandwich. That it is a good size helping. That it has a great light fresh vinegar sauce with thinly sliced carrots and other crunchy veg. The fish tasted fresh fried. And I have to say, this is the Best fish sandwich I have ever tasted. I only am upset I hadn't come much sooner. I will have to return, probably on a monthly basis for that fish sandwich. There are enough pictures out there of the sandwich. But I also had the Thai basil lemonade and it was a nice pairing. Not a waste of time, effort or dough. Just go.

We bring friends here, and one friend in particular is so obsessed that he was dreaming of their food when he was on a film shoot out of state, and could not wait to get back. You order at the window, and can take it away or eat outside. The place feels like a party when the weather is good. I don't think it is possible to order badly: the owners keep the menu tight, and everything is SO FRESH. When they run out, that's it. (The curried carrot soup will go fast, I've found.) My husband usually gets the vietnamese fried fish sandwich which is delectable with lots of flavor and texture. We rarely eat meat, but I have made an exception to try the Moroccan lamb burger which was worth it. I usually spring for the upgrade to get crispy smashed potatoes instead of chips. And it's worth noting that the drinks are also well above average: I've enjoyed the indulgence of a Bravassi hard Italian soda with my meal on a lazy afternoon, after shopping at the Second Life thrift store. Their drinks are very good, and they serve them up straightaway to savor while you wait for your order to come up. I have not yet ordered a salad but they have an array of excellent / choices, and I know they will not disappoint. I also want to note that although there is not waiter service (which makes it an ideal spot to meet friends) the staff is friendly, and well above average. It's such a great vibe, and a real bonus of living in the area. They also serve breakfast, and I feel confident in their level of quality in recommending them as a stop for anyone.

It was perfection. i decided to try Enso because it's closer and wanted to compare especially with the stellar reviews. I ordered the Tonkotsu (of course), 3 different skewers, baos and a curry entre. The baos had incredible flavor but the texture of the pork was a little tough and chewy. All the skewers were just okay and small for the price. The garnish under the skewers was really good and flavorful. Now, on to my main thing.... The Tonkotsu. My whole purpose for coming here. Disgusting!!! The broth tasted like dirty sink water with no salt or flavor!! The pork was flavorless and not tender. The fixings were all blah. Such a shame because it was visually pretty. I was so disappointed. The waiter asked me how was it. I told her it was very lackluster. She didn't try to do anything to satisfy the customer. I kept it cute and didn't make a fuss because I knew Id never return. All the food looked better than it tasted besides the curry rice bowl which was good. If you want authentic, bold Japanese ramen and dishes (40% cheaper too) , take the trip to Okiboru. I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 2 because it was very clean with a nice bathroom. The food is easily 2 starts. (Lunch Menu. Not dinner).

We snagged an early dinner reservation at 5:15 pm and surprisingly, people were already dining and they just got busier as time went on. We were greeted right away by our wonderful server (forgot her name though) and she asked if it was our first time there and if we were celebrating something. We answered yes to both and they actually brought us complimentary champagne, a sparkling non-alcoholic cider for me because I ordered a zero proof drink. Kimball House is known for their amazing bar program, so my husband ordered a Kimball House served with a side of olives and lemon twist on ice, like what?! I ordered a ginger & honey lime fizz to enjoy. For starters, we also enjoyed Hawaiian rolls, green salad and some oysters for my husband. The rolls and salad came out super fast, but there was quite a wait for our drinks and oysters that I didn't think they were going to come out. The rolls are a must-get here - they're huge and the strawberry preserve it was served with was delicious! The salad was actually split in half, which was a super nice touch and was plenty of serving between two people. We loved the dressing - it was nice and fresh. For our entree, I ordered a trout and my husband ordered the duck breast. I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw my plate because I was thinking it would be a plate full of grits, but what was served was the perfect amount because it was quite heavy. The trout by itself was too salty for my taste, but was best eaten with a bite of collards and grits. My husband enjoyed his meal, but wished the duck was cooked a bit more. For dessert, we both enjoyed a Paris Brest. Our server actually put it in twice so we each got one when she meant to only punch in one, but she ended up taking one off from our bill. I was quite shocked that our whole dinner was only around $190, not including tip, which I thought was quite reasonable. We definitely recommend this place for date night or simply for delicious food.
