Daddy-O's Diner- Port St. John- 1-Star "The marketing of anything is full of exploitation, lies and hype." -- S. Pollack Before my long-anticipated trip to New York City to get some more artwork on the canvas that is Todd, The Big Boy Dining Out, I decided to get in one more review. As luck would have it the name Daddy-O's Diner popped up on my random name generator. Lucky as I always enjoy a drive up the 1. Boarding BBDO Mobile #1, I pointed her North and began my languid cruise up the coast. Traffic was light and so it wasn't too long I found myself pulling into a dingy looking little strip mall off of Hwy. 1 in Sharpes. Sadly, no ocean view, but a great view of the County Jail. It is always hard to judge how busy a place is when they share a parking lot with others. Upon entering the joint, however, I soon realized that most of the cars outside had to be for here as the place was packed. Perhaps that is the reason no one greeted me upon entering, they were extremely busy, I will give them that. After being seated and handed a menu with the obligatory, "Your server will be right with you," I eagerly began to read the menu and was immediately drawn to the pictures on the back. They really, I mean really hyped their food. That put me a bit at ease as I am never one to believe the hype about anything, let alone slop house grub. Placing the menu down with my order at the ready it wasn't too long before a charming lady by the name of Jessie introduced herself as my server and asked if I was ready to order. Jennie was professional, sincere and not only answered all my questions but had questions of her own, as such I found her to be thoroughly engaging. Placing my order for a three-egg omelet with bacon, cheddar cheese, onions, bell peppers and tomatoes with a biscuit and a side of hash browns. As Jessie jaunted off to the kitchen, I perused the joint and found it charming and cozy. As I said, the place was packed and made me look forward to my meal. Jessie soon returned laden with my delectables. If everything tasted as good as the omelet looked and smelled, I was in for a treat and began to think that maybe, just maybe the hype found on the menu to be justified. However fleeting that thought may have been, it was pleasant for a moment. One bite of the hash browns and my belief in the hype took a sudden downturn. They were over-cooked to the point of losing any tenderness and were basically french-fried browns. Properly cooked hash browns should be crispy on the outside while tender on the inside. The biscuit had me stumped. I am pretty sure it came out of a can, but I couldn't be certain. It was flaky and so dry my was stuck closed. After two items I came to the conclusion that this place must be hit or miss and was hoping the omelet was a hit and not the second strike. As I previously stated, the omelet looked wonderful and smelled delightful, taste, however, was another matter. It was cooked well and if it hadn't tasted grill burnt surely would have been enjoyable to the taste. As it did taste grill burnt, it was not enjoyable at all. I don't know if the grill was dirty or the cook took his eye off the ball for a second, regardless, while not horrid, it certainly wasn't worthy of consumption. If you were keeping count that is one out of three, not good by any standard. I certainly did not believe the hype, nor could I understand the crowd. Again, maybe mine was just more misses than hits. All I can say is that I stand behind my rating. Todd, The Big Boy says, "If you want a good breakfast go elsewhere because this place is disgusting. #bigboydiningout #iamthebigboy

This is a small mom and pop in a strip mall. We stopped in because it's around the corner and we've never been. Considering the size and front of house was being run by the owner, service was good and friendly. It's a very strong patriotic theme and that honestly is affecting my four star rating. They are all about giving back to vets and of course my husband served 25 years so I know he will be going back for the vibe. Food was good

Stopped in for breakfast on the way to KSC. Great food, friendly service. Covid clean. Will stop again when in the area.

    Big & Sloppy

I tried the Big & Sloppy today and it was excellent! Had never heard of anything quite like it: bisquit with hash browns & scrambled eggs on top, smothered in sausage gravy then cheddar cheese & bacon sprinkled on for good measure! Loved it & everyone was so nice & friendly! I only got the small size, can't imagine how large the Big one is!

Cocoa, Florida --- "Daddy O's Cafe" (NOT "Donuts") is a GREAT breakfast eatery on the south side of US Route 1 ... Comfortable counter-seating diner with table-seating, as well ... The menu selections are unique with super fair prices ... off-street parking is plentiful ... a "Run-A-Way Bill" recommendation "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! This is the best home cooking around. Fabulous wait staff and even better food. The owner Kim is the best. Big smile and she makes the perfect eggs:)

I have never experienced what I experienced today at any restaurant, My food was half cooked, So like any other restaurant I thought it would get resolved without friction. Boy was I wrong the manager was so rude and nasty about the situation. Told me he wouldn't remake the food so I asked for a refund he got in my face screaming and yelling. Imagine being 6 month pregnant and a guy pointing and yelling in your face . Needless to say I left without food or my money but humiliated. I wouldn't recommend if u wanna be treated like a human.

Would not recommend. Food was horrible and barely edible, coffee was cold. This was the second visit and there will not be a third.

No matter, my wife had their two-egg build-your-own style, while I had their Tornado Burrito - we each added a pancake for good measure (and with blueberries).

The street view does not do this place good justice - once you enter you find yourself in a sizeable coffee house with plenty of seating or counterspace to use. The menu was not extensive, but it wasn't short-n-sweet either. It had all the mainstays such as lattes and Americanos, along with breakfast servings from eggs and ham/sausage to delicious bakery items. We choose to have some bakery items... My wife had their blueberry muffin while I had their iced oatmeal brownie - they were decadently delicious. So much so, I may make a surprise trip to this place one morning to bring back these delectables back home. Service was friendly, helpful, and our coffees came out hot and fresh. The only nit was that there were no napkins anywhere to be had, not entirely sure why. Anyway, we will be back and most certainly I will...

I've eaten at a lot of restaurants in my life, but nothing compares to the experience we had. Yes,…read morethe food was phenomenal. Yes, the ambiance was perfect. But let's be honest: this place runs on one thing and one thing only, Josh. From the moment we sat down, Josh didn't just "serve" our table. He orchestrated it. The man moves like a hospitality ninja. Water glasses never dropped below the halfway mark. Empty plates disappeared as if teleported. He anticipated our needs before we even knew we had them. At one point, I casually considered ordering another drink, and somehow Josh was already walking toward the table with it. Telepathy? Probably. When we asked for recommendations, he didn't just list menu items, he delivered a passionate, Oscar-worthy monologue about flavor profiles, textures, and life-changing sauces. We ordered exactly what he suggested, and I'm convinced my taste buds ascended to a higher plane. If Josh told me to try something I've sworn I'd never eat, I'd trust him without hesitation. The food itself? Incredible. Perfectly cooked, beautifully plated, and clearly crafted with care. But somehow it all tasted better because Josh brought it to the table. I'm not saying he seasoned it personally... but I'm also not ruling it out. He handled a packed dining room with the calm confidence of someone who was born for this. Other servers were great but it was hard to notice anyone else while witnessing Josh in his element. It felt less like dinner and more like watching a masterclass in hospitality. By the end of the night, we weren't just satisfied customers, we were Josh fans. If this restaurant has any sense, they'll put his face on the menu, the sign, maybe even the building. Five stars for the food. Five stars for the atmosphere. Ten stars for Josh. We'll absolutely be back, mostly to see Josh.
