These items came out fresh and hot. The deviled eggs were good, made the traditional way. Unfortunately they were out of the fried green tomatoes today. The cocktails were tasty and came out quick too. Unfortunately the entree portion was a mess. Despite the restaurant not being very busy, the food took very long to come out, and none of it was hot. The grit bowl was like warm; the cornmeal pancakes were cold and bland. The pancakes were nothing like the description and they sent an order of 2 when it calls for 3; the garlic grilled cheese was delivered to the table without any of its accoutrements (garlic flavoring, the spicy mustard and the caramelized onions). It was simply bread and melted cheese. They were willing to remake it, but it took forever for the entrees to come, so we opted to not. They still charged us full price for it. They also charged us in full for the order of pancakes that they shorted us on. Entree wise, the chicken and waffle is the only thing I'd recommend ordering. Our waitress was very nice. Maybe not the most experienced. I won't hold the kitchen's missteps against her, but she probably should have brought those missteps to a managers attention on our behalf.

The first time I ordered, I asked for all cabbage instead of rice. I was charged $22 for a plate that is normally $14 -- meaning I was charged an additional $8 simply for changing the rice to cabbage. The next time I went, I ordered the exact same thing: no rice, just cabbage, and my plate was $14. So I know it is possible to order the plate without rice without being charged that much. Today, I went in and asked for the same plate with no rice because I have a dietary restriction and do not eat rice. I was told that there was no option to get the plate without rice and that I had to get rice. That was frustrating because I had literally ordered the same plate without rice the previous week. What makes this even more confusing is that the restaurant's website lists an "all cabbage" option for $2.50, while DoorDash lists it for $3.50. So I'm genuinely confused as to why I was charged an additional $5 the first time I ordered all cabbage. I don't mind paying for a substitution, but the pricing needs to be consistent and transparent. As a customer, being charged different amounts for the same request and then being told an option isn't available when I've previously received it makes me feel like I'm being taken advantage of. I love the food, which is why I've continued coming back, but the pricing inconsistency has gotten to the point where I no longer feel comfortable spending my money there or recommending the restaurant to others. I sincerely hope management looks into this and addresses it with the staff. You have good food, but inconsistent and non-transparent pricing is going to continue to cost you customers. I would love to be able to come back and enjoy my Sunday stewed chicken without having to question whether I'm being charged a fair price.

Everything came out perfectly hot and fresh. The Sweet Potato Waffle was massive. Much larger than I expected and delightfully dense. It arrived topped with caramelized smashed sweet potatoes. It was so rich and tasty that I knew right away I'd be taking most of it home for round two! The Salmon Bites were an absolute revelation! Lightly battered and flash-fried. They were cooked to perfection with virtually no excess oil. I don't think I've ever had salmon prepared quite like this before. Our waitress never brought them out; someone from the kitchen eventually came through, and we stopped her to ask about our drinks. She brought us Arnold Palmers, although that was not what we originally ordered. All four of us ordered the catfish plate with collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese was actually pretty good, but the collard greens were extremely salty, so we had to send them back. Unfortunately, the catfish was also much too salty. To make matters worse, my food came out about 15 minutes after everyone else had already started eating. At that point, I asked for my meal to be wrapped up to go. I really do love the concept and potential of this restaurant, and I genuinely want to see them succeed. However, based on our experience, I would not recommend visiting just yet. There are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out, especially with the kitchen and service. We received a sincere apology from management, which I appreciated. I may give them some time to get things ironed out and try again in the future. I really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, this visit just wasn't it.
