Apparently, this place is known for their Hu Tieu. I think they have a leg to stand on. We parked about a block away from the entrance of Da Lat, but I later noticed that there were makeshift parking spots on the 9th Street side of the restaurant. Sunday brunch was busy, but fortunately they had a free table for us right away. Hu Tieu Dai Da Lat Dac Biet ($12.95 currently, IIRC) was my order. I had it "kho" (translates to "dry") meaning that the broth came on the side (in a bowl). This allows you to apply their sweet/salty sauce to the noodles and meats, which wouldn't be possible if the bowl was filled with broth. First of all, the broth was delicious. It's rich and adds flavor to everything. Slurp some up after taking a bite. The noodles were great too, with a bit of chew in them and a really smooth feel. You should know that you'll get a different noodle if you don't order the "Di" version. Finally, the meats were a little more of a mixed bag, with the chicken being a bit tough and the cha chien (pork roll) being a bit dry. However, the crab claw was tasty, and the giant prawns were delicious and cooked properly. They have a "Mi" version of that dish, which replaces the noodles with egg noodles and doesn't come with a sauce, but is otherwise the same. It looked similar otherwise. Also, I sampled a bit of pork from the Bun Tom Thit Nuong. It was decent, but it was pretty thin and had no char. I wouldn't come here for that dish. I can see why they're popular. For years, I didn't remember name of this place or where it was located, but I could still vividly remember the huge shrimp and the sweet special sauce that made the noodle soup at Dalat special. I am guessing they probably used the last noodle at the bottom of the bag or something, but it's sure is annoying to eat noodle that fall apart to smaller pieces. The worst part was the broth, it was just plain, and tasted like water mixed with flavor. It's just lack the sweetness that one would get from brewing the shank and meat for hours. One thing about this place they're open 8 in the morning so there's very little traffic to speak of so few customers and ample street parking or you can park right in front of the restaurant with limited parking space reserved for customers only. Came in on a Sunday evening, no waiting to be seated. But there was a big group of people seated before us, so that might have played a role in the time it took for us to get our food. It's difficult in the pandemic to get people to try your stuff out. There are so many options on ordering platforms that it's almost hard to choose. Da Lat Restaurant caught my eye with their promo on DoorDash of 20% off up to $5 on an order. Plus naming your restaurant after a city begs that they are just as good as the whole city. I think what I am really fond of, is that their menu has the Vietnamese language. It is certainly not for everyone, especially for non-Viet people wanting to buy something off their menu on a digital platform. But it kind of gave me the feeling that I was looking at a paper menu if I were to sit down. Kind of nostalgic, since we are still in a pandemic. So kudos to that. My first order was the Bun Thit Nuong and Sua Dau Nanh. You can't go wrong with grilled pork. I asked for no bean sprouts and extra daikon and carrots. And received just that! I don't make it a point to say that I, "Still received bean sprouts even though I didn't want to" because it's almost an uncommon request. But I will always note when places do. I appreciated that I didn't receive them, I don't like bean sprouts. Probably one of the very few Vietnamese people that even do, and there isn't a lot of us. The grilled pork was a bit warm when I got it, so possibly my Doordasher was picking up another order while delivering mine. So I don't think I got the full experience of what Da Lat had to offer with my order. But was willing to try it again. The Sua Dau Nanh was in a can, I was kind of sad they didn't make it fresh. But again, nothing beats nostalgia and this definitely brought me back to my childhood. Wanted to give this place another shot and decided to order Pho Bo Vien. I just had it from another restaurant but you have to order from multiple places to support all the local shops. There was no option for me to order more meat with my pho, so I was expecting a small portion of bo vien like at any typical pho restaurant. But to my surprise, I had an amazing amount! They were cut in half, so it made the bowl look more full than it was, but as I was eating, I noticed that it was actually more than most places. Which is fantastic because the price of the bowl was great! The broth was a bit more than the bowl itself so I couldn't fill it up but it was a great opportunity to split the pho with my boyfriend. Since there are so many parked cars in this neighborhood, parking can be an issue. Service: I'd say is it's not bad, and not great either. I had coffee at B2 and this place is about 5 minutes away. I love pho and can always eat any kind of Asian food. This place was open, 4 stars, why not? I ordered #48 as a dry bowl. It had slices of chicken, pork, tofu, two large shrimp and a crab arm with rice noodles. It came with broth and special sauce on the side. The special sauce was tasty. I added all of it to my noodles along with some broth to make it a little soupy. $13 total for the soup. I ate 2/3 and took 1/3 home but it wasn't the same.
