The food is disappointing. The chicken parm was really dry and really greasy. The rigatoni had so much bacon grease that was the only flavor. That would have been okay if the manager hadn't had a tantrum about sending it back. We out all the time, live 6 minutes from there and are always looking for a reliable local restaurant. Unfortunately we won't go back, not because of the subpar food but because of the nasty attitude. One should be allowed to not like something that is far from the standard dish. read more

We've been looking for a Newtonville spot to be "the one" for us and this is it. I will be bringing all visitors and out-of-town (heck, even in-town) friends here to split delicious Italian dishes and a few bottles of wine. The meatballs and arancini were particularly delicious and their margarita pizza is something I'll go back to time and time again when I want a slice (or whole pie) to hit just right with that brick oven taste. We split several apps including roasted Brussels sprouts, beets with citrus, eggplant Parma, and the amazing homemade ricotta with orange blossom honey, and their super yummy homemade focaccia! I heard they won the best Pizza this year but we did not order a pizza. We ordered the ricotta appetizer and frocacia bread and the Caesar's salad and the chicken parmigiana. While the bread the ricotta and the Caesar's salad were excellent the chicken parmigiana was average at best. It was too crispy fried. I judge restaurants by their chicken parmigiana and this did not pass my judgment. The staff were great and attentive. I guess next time I will have to go for the pizza read more

We have been here several times but it has been disappointing lately. How can an Italian restaurant not serve a glass of Pinot Grigio? The food was just okay with the pasta being just too small a portion. The chicken parmigiana does not come with pasta!! I actually never heard of that before, anywhere. The pizza here is ridiculously good. Its incredibly refreshing to find someone using only the best ingredients available. This is by far the best Neapolitan pizza I have had in the New England area, including New York City....and I have tried them all including all the best in Naples Italy. Sourdough crust that's not too sour, really bright fresh tasting tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella that actually has flavor. I cant wait to try more of the food here. What a gem. read more

I went here for a work holiday party, which I figure offers a different experience than if you went for a regular dinner. Regardless of the latter, the food was absolutely exquisite and the food was top notch. Furthermore, the service was incredible. The staff was so attentive and nice. We've been here several times but I'm not sure that we'll go back. We made a reservation for two for at 6:00 on a Monday evening. We showed up and were promptly seated. Then we waited for the waiter. And we waited. After 15 minutes I went to the host station to ask if someone would be waiting on us. Profuse apologies and the waiter shows and takes our full order (drinks, salad, pizza). 10 minutes later our salad was delivered, but no drinks. Drinks then show up a few minutes into our salad. We finished the salad, and our drinks, and we waited for our pizza. And waited. 15 minutes later our pizza shows up. No waiter checking in to see if we want more drinks. We finish our pizza, and wait for the check. I had to get up and go find our waiter to ask for the bill. The food was good, as usual, but the service left a lot to be desired. Prices are high so I feel that service should be stellar. Da la Posta, you can do better. read more

I have been eating now at "De La Posta" in Newton multiple times in the last few months and I go there every time I want to have an experience similar to what I have back home and every time after I come back from Italy. Mario and his recipes can easily be compared to an authentic experience from the south of Italy. I also believe comparing his pizza to North End does not do justice to his quality. The artisan pizza of De La Posta is much better than most of the pizzas you can have in North End. But this place is much more than just pizza. Lately I wondered across the menu tasting several dishes and I was impressed by all of them. Among the appetizers, the eggplant parmigiana is probably the best I had in a long time. The "fiori di zucca" are also delicious and the housemade ricotta is not to be missed. In this season I tasted the "pumpkin tortelli" and they were a pleasant surprise. We just could not stop and we also had "veal saltimbocca' with fries which were also extremely enjoyable. Mario is a warm and welcoming host who makes you feel at ease there. His passion and authentic vision of southern Italian cuisine is contagious. His staff is attentive and friendly. I am looking forward to bringing more friends there and will be anxiously waiting for the next menu variation since his menu changes often. Buon appetito ! read more

My spouse and I dined here two weeks ago on a Friday night, later in the evening (~10PM) after an event. It was still bustling at that hour! Our service was a little choppy as the restaurant had only been open for a few days, but was pleasant. We ordered the eggplant parm appetizer, and the Cacio e Pepe pizza. While all were very flavorful and we will, no doubt, be back ASAP, it was certainly pretty pricey. We felt that the eggplant appetizer was pretty small considering the price ($14) and was not really a shareable item. The pizza itself was tasty and the truffles were plentiful, but $28 for the individual-size pizza was tough! I might've liked to see each item be closer to $9 and $22, respectively. Otherwise, it was a nice atmosphere and the food was tasty despite the prices. We will certainly try it again- how about some free bread to start the meal! read more

We've given them multiple chances because it is good pizza, but there are others to choose from of course. Tonight I arrived, no pizza. They put it into production with apologies, I finally got it and I got home to find it was missing the ingredients I paid for. So, a 28$ personal pizza that they got wrong. Crazy. A fresh breeze in Newton Italian cuisine. Fun, comfort and delicious antipasti appetizers. Limited main entrees, but you just have try the Bolognese sauce with hand cut tagliatelle. Special ingredients in many of the menu items, that are authentic and transfer you to the real Italian local cuisine. We had dinner there last night and it was fabulous! It was easily the best pizza we have ever had! I also tried the charred octopus for the first time and it was tender and flavorful! I was so looking forward to trying the restaurant and in fairness maybe NYE isn't the time to try a new place. We ordered gnoccho fritto, suppli, pasta carbonara and chicken Parmigiano. The gnoccho was delicious but a simple suggestion put shaved Parmigiano instead of grated, the suppli which I was looking forward to were served in a bowl of sauce (booo) and arrived cold inside. To their credit they remade them immediately but having had suppli in Rome was put off by the fact they were drenched in sauce. The carbonara sauce was good albeit a tad salty but the sin was the pasta was grossly under cooked, which was a shame. The half a chicken parm was a huge plate but the chicken was grossly over breaded (pictute equal ration of breading which was soggy and chicken). The breast was cooked nicely but the thigh hadn't been cleaned well and had the feel of being under cooked, which was off putting to the eater. We didn't complain bc I didn't want to be "that person " on a holiday. We simply packed the food to toss it ouout. We sat at the bar with two other couples and had a hard time connecting with the bar tender because he was too busy talking to one of the couples. The restaurant is lovely inside and very clean. Parking is easy. I really had high hopes for this place but was beyond disappointed unfortunately. read more
