I have many issues with this shop.. First off like everyone says, the piercer there does not sanitize after every client, nor does he sanitize where he is going to pierce. The specials they have to get people in the door end up with the piercer doing one after another pushing people in and out the door like cows. Last time I checked, piercing is a precise thing to do and piercing over 100 people a night?? How can you be precise doing that.. He doesn't give you any aftercare instructions.. Luckily I know how to take care of piercings. My first tattoo experience there, I chose one of the thirty dollar tattoos. It was a lotus flower. Just an outline. The artist who was assigned to me saw what I was getting and said nope I'm not gonna do that and walks away so they get another artist. He says he'll try to. That should of been my first sign to just walk away. So I guess his little brother walks up? And says he's amazing at line work and would love to do it. This gives me confidence. So he finishes the tattoo and I look at it and it's awful... Lines are not uniform and the whole thing just looks terrible. I should of known from then on to never go back but I thought I'd give them another chance. I go in for another tattoo special and as I'm looking at the book a guy walks over and says hey I'm tattooing you today. Doesn't introduce himself or anything. I get a simple outline of a sugar skull not even detailed and when he finishes im so appalled I just pay him and leave. Everyone comments on how horrible the tattoo is. I'm embarrassed of it and plan to get it covered up. Blow outs all over the tattoo, areas where he didn't press hard enough so the ink is barley there. Lines not connected and lines are not uniform. They claim they have award winning tattoo artists .. Where? Every Time I've gone I see new faces, and see no awards or even artist portfolios to look at!! Just a tip- Instagram does not count as a portfolio... Over all a terrible place to get a tattoo or piercing. As the saying goes.... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. It's bad enough the business has no number to call to check on matters like this before wasting time and money. He would not respond when I attempted to contact him. Eventually, he texted me stating that he had left early and would give me a price break if I were willing to reschedule for my wasted time. I still don't understand why I wasn't contacted to cancel or reschedule the appointment beforehand but tried to be understanding. Having already paid a deposit I tried to have faith in both his integrity and his business sense which was a mistake on my part looking back. We rescheduled for November 6th. I specifically told him to notify me if anything came up as the shop is far from where I live. He said okay. The 6th was much of the same. I came an hour early. He had already gone home for the day. I reached out to him about the appointment and he acted as if he didn't know what I was talking about and sent me screenshots of our initial conversation scheduling for the 2nd. I clarified for him that the texts were from when I was initially stood up and sent him screenshots of our concerns rescheduling. He acknowledged this and had absolutely no explanation or apology. When my friend with whom I was getting the tattoo inquired on our appointment on IG he promptly blocked her. He did send my deposit back, eventually. Da Kandy Shop is my favorite shop in DFW. OG Poppy has been my artist for over 13 years. He is truly the best artist in DFW. I have always picked him but he has some top notch artist in DFW as well. He is very polite, works with you on your design and gives you a BOMB tattoo. The prices don't break the bank and alot of people say you get what you pay for and you do especially with DA Kandy Shop. They do AWESOME work for the working man's budget. I can't brag enough about this shop! He teaches classes and helps artist others say aren't good enough and they have moved on to open their own shops, but I still pick OG Poppy! I travel the world and get compliments on his work everywhere I go. If you want a BOMB tattoo or piercing roll up they take walk-ins. He has an Instagram page if you prefer him to tatt you. Yeah yeah yeah, they advertise as a dollar piercing, and I ended up paying $16 for two, that's still a great fucking deal? The wait is long because there's so many people wanting this deal, you can't complain about the wait. The piercer doesn't talk to you very much, but it's all over within 5 minutes so why does that matter? I got my first ever piercing, my nipples, two years ago, and they're perfect. I never had any infection, irritability, or anything. It hardly hurt besides when I would bump it into something later on. My piercer was a guy with a foreign accent, and he did not use a gun, he used these tong like things and a huge needle. He didn't tell me much on how to take care of them besides to use soap, but do your research on how to properly clean your piercings, and actually properly clean your piercings, and you're good. If you want luxurious service, pay the luxurious price. read more

I've been a supporter of the Da Kandy Shop for about three years now! I see tattoos as an outward expressions of who I am and I'm thankful I've found artist who can communicate that through the ink! I get so many compliments on my tattoos because they stand out and people are impressed by the healing process. My tattoos have henna inflections and are a direct extension of who I am. I moved from NYC to Texas a year ago and it took me FOREVER to find a tattoo shop that new what the hell they were doing! I was a walk in at Da Kandy Shop and normally, if you're a walk in, you have to wait hours, but I only waited 20 minutes. The girl at the counter was so polite and professional and she was able to fit me in. The guy that did my tattoo had a clean area, he was cool and made me feel super relaxed and even offered to touch up one of my other tattoos that I wanted to cover up but after he touched it up, I fell in love with it again! My tattoo is exactly as I wanted it, the ink is level, the colors and shading was perfect. I love the service, the environment and the people at Da Kandy Shop! I'll definitely be back! read more

In love with the Kandy Shop's work! Going to the Kandy Shop, I was going to get cover up work done. I never had cover up work done, so I was a tad bit skeptical. Upon entering the tattoo parlor, I was immediately greeted by a friendly face, asking if I had an appointment. To my surprise, I only had to wait on my artist about forty-five seconds, before he called me back. My artist was extremely friendly, and did an unbelievable job on my tattoo. This shop did so well with me for my first tattoo, and it was a relatively pleasant situation. The only negatives are that the shop phone ala google is OG Poppy's. I did enjoy working with him (and am liable to do in the future, with the great job he did!) but I'd like to make an appointment via the front desk and I'm not sure how. The shop also only takes cash, which is vaguely inconvenient. But none of this really takes away from how well the entire trip went for me, and I more than appreciate everyone's patience with me. read more

I love Da Kandi Shop. Not only do they have extremely good prices but they are the best in town and apparently out of town also lol. I was going to get a tattoo in my home town Fl. But the artist was talking about $200 just for two best friend's tatts. I said you have lost your mind bc poppy do these for $20 at the most... Regardless of the negative reviews, I think this place is amazing! My friend recommended getting my first tattoo here and I didn't regret it. My tattoo artist was Pharoah, very chill and nice guy. His work is awesome, I recommend you check it out! First tattoo I got turned out better than I expected, got so many compliments because of the shading. Regardless of what you hear or read, this place is a hidden gem. The staff are professionals....cool people. They didn't treat me like I was just another customer and definitely took pride in his work he did on me. I had my upper body done in tribal art and had a motorcycle accident a week later scrapping half of it off. I've been to da Kandy shop a few time and every visit was a great visit from the receptionist to the artist everyone is very friendly and welcoming!!!
