While explaining the risks of the piercing she asked if she would be swimming in the next 3 months, stating "You are risking an infection next to your brain." She then cautioned her on air travel in the next 3 months. We have a trip in four weeks. My daughter asked if that was long enough after the piercing. Mady stated, "there is a real risk of your ear lobes swelling due to the altitude and you needing to have your earrings surgically removed. I have been a family practice PA for the last seventeen years. I am well versed in explaining risks of procedures to patients and how to care for wounds. This language was completely unnecessary, especially for a twelve-year-old. I will also add, I had a completely different experience 2 years ago with my other daughter. I was terribly disappointed. He was super patient, making sure the piercing went in just the right spot to match the other one she already had on the other nostril. Was a very pleasant experience.
