This Hawaiian Cuisine lover is always looking for the next best thing in Hawaiian eats, even when traveling to other cities across the country. This time around, while visiting Portland Oregon, my wife and I discovered Da' Hui Hawaiian Bar & Grill nestled on Foster Road, it offers quite an array of known and some less known island cookery. Some of their offerings include supposedly Portland's Best Kalua Pork, the likes of Hawaiian Style Chicken, Lemon Chicken and many, many other dishes ready to entice you. A few of us stopped in for a bite and I must say, none of us were thoroughly impressed! One of my fave dishes - Loco Moco in all its simplicity, I thought lacking. I had their Loco Moco consisting of grilled and lightly seasoned (somewhat bland) beef burger patty served over rice, topped with 2 sunny side up eggs (which can't be made wrong), with grilled/sauteed onions and totally smothered with a less than respectable brown gravy, then served with an okay macaroni salad! Although everything we tried was just okay, I found it nothing to write home about. Not bad, but not great either. It's just a place to get your adequate Hawaiian on!

Great Hawaiian tiki bar with solid tiki drinks, 7-8 craft beers, delicious Hawaiian food (our favorites are the garlic chicken & pulled pork sliders!!), jammin' music, and friendly service each time we come! Their new hours show that they're open daily 8am which is nice to know, but hoping that means they'll have some local breakfast menu items (maybe some Portuguese sausage/eggs/rice). No minors allowed but we're good with that since we don't have kids and keeps a certain vibe! Don't skip out on this place. I wish we lived closer, this place is dangerous!

This 5 star review is strictly for the grilled cheese. I don't even know how I ended up ordering a grilled cheese because it's out of character for me, but I'm glad I did. It's the perfect balance of sweet, savory, crispy, and buttery. The bread is nice and toasty, the cheese melty, the pineapple and guava jam balances out the savory, and the ham is good because I like meat LOL. I could do without the fries and mac salad that it comes with. Came here for the first time in like 2019? And the only thing I remembered was the grilled cheese. Came back in 2024, got it again just to make sure it's as good as I remembered and it did not disappoint. I forced everyone at our table to sample it because I'm dramatic and wanted to share the flavorgasm. Needless to say, we ended up ordering a second serving of it. The next time I come I will be having the grilled cheese, duh! Hopefully it'll be sooner than 5 years from now tho.

We met up with some friends at Da'Hui one evening for drinks. This is a dive tiki bar in South East Portland on Foster Road. The location is easy to find and they are open seven days a week from 12 pm to 2:30 am. Unfortunately the website itself doesn't provide much more information other than house, location and menu (food and drink). I find this a bit disappointing as I actually like to know more about the restaurants, bars and locations that I frequent or spend money in. We only came in for a drink so I cannot rate this location for food. I will leave that to another Yelper :-). The location has a Hawaiian vibe, tiki bar casual and a bit dive bar. It is relaxing and the bar staff was friendly (although they did forget my husbands second drink he ordered). (A negative point off the rating). I was enticed by the bar menu and while there were a lot of drinks I recognized, there were also something that were new and caught my eye. At the end, began thinking about a trip my hubby and I had in New Orleans and I landed on ordering a Hurricane. This is a blend of two rums, passion fruit, lime and orange juice. It was sweet, and LARGE, but average on the drink cocktail scale in flavor. The ones in NOLA have a better flavor and kick. Would I be back. Maybe. Would I try a different drink. Yes. Its great to know they are open so late, but I haven't validated how late the kitchen is open, which is a must in my book especially here in Portland, OR where the food, often outside of the food trucks which actually are not all that great, roll up early. However, if you are just looking for a cool, laid back place to catch up with friends, this is a fun spot.

Had no clue there was a Hawaiian joint in this neighborhood, and this place is absolutely not what you'd expect from the outside, or even from the inside to be honest. Friend and I came in here on a Friday afternoon for a bite and a couple drinks, and ended up having a rendezvous of friends in the area that also wanted to enjoy an evening out. The weather was gorgeous, and they have a pretty big covered patio on the sidewalk, but unfortunately it seemed to be full of smokers when we arrived, so we took a table/makeshift "booth" in the back. (I say "booth" because they have tatami/plexiglas screens hanging from the ceiling to separate each freestanding table. This is a pretty cool idea and makes for some hilarious scenarios when the next table over is kinda drunk and runs into the screen, realizes they ran into it, turns and looks through the window and waves.) Up front, the specialty drinks were good, but nothing to really write home about - and that's ok, they do the job. What you are going to want to write home about is the food! First thing you're going to want to order is the Musubi - tofu or spam, they're both a brick of deliciousness. It's $5 for lego brick of rice and protein wrapped up in seaweed and you need to get at least one to put in your face. My friends and I all ordered different things - steak fries, regular basket of fries, pulled pork plate, the pork sandwich... but I'd been craving ramen for a few days and saw the hung ova soup just sitting there at the bottom of the menu. The Hung Ova Soup is...a lot more than you'd expect. It's huge! A kinda salty/savory broth that's full of bok choy, gyoza, your choice of meat (I got spam) and noodles. Yeah, the noodles are pretty obviously out of instant/top ramen packets, but I'm not knocking them for that. Those noodles are built to sop up the deliciousness of whatever they're put near, and when you put all this deliciousness in that bowl, it turns into something epic!

Macaroni salad (Stable I took out my mouth in my hand!)

Drinks are great. But I had a staple in my macaroni salad, which made a cut in my mouth which is making it hard for me to eat now. The bartender offered me a full refund which I appreciate but that was just crazy. I've never had something like that happened to me before! I've spent $58.50.

Wednesday night wasn't that busy. The service was good, but food wasn't that great. We ordered the steak bites as an appetizer, the Bento Bowl with chicken and pork, and Da Grindz. The chicken was good but the pork was just meh. It was too salty and pretty dry. The mac salad also didn't have much flavor.

Da' Hui was one of our favorite bars to frequent, when we lived in SE: really incredible Hawaiian food (my wife adores their spam musubi), tart tropical-themed drinks and slushes, slightly aloof servers, and a freaky tiki aesthetic. They've since added a covered patio, post-COVID, which is a nice addition. Fantastic happy hour, open late, and just a fun vibe all around, particularly when it gets busy. My only complaint is that I wish it was closer to home, but that's our fault for moving away.

Nice local bar, very divey on the inside. I love the online ordering platform for takeout orders, and the shoyu chicken hits the spot although it definitely is not the best I've ever had. I prefer my shoyu chicken to have a bit more of a ginger flavor, and this one tasted more like teriyaki, but it's close to my boyfriend's apartment so it's a solid spot for me to order from when I'm in town and don't know what to eat for dinner. I do think the macaroni salad is bland compared to other hawaiian spots, but portions here are large and provides good value for your money. If this is a convenient location for you, definitely try it out but don't expect anything amazing.

Still 5 stars I, one year later! Started Hot Buttered Rum on a cold windy day, was something else!! YUMMMM THEN we had the Kailua Pork Fries, omg, how will I ever eat what's coming next! Da' Grindz Combo, Kalua pork, shots chicken, ya Judi a noodles & rice, need I say more! EXCELLENT! And we love Andrea!! Fantastic place! I cannot see how anyone can give this place less than 5 stars!! Fresh, fast and friendly!!

Ok. Fist lays talk about the service. This is the second time I've been here. Lunch both times. Each time I was greeted with a friendly smile had a handcrafted cocktail in hand within minutes. Everyone here has been very nice. Ok. Now the food. The shredded Kailua pork is succulent and running with juices. Full of smoky flavor and does not need their completely off the charts House made BBQ sauce. The Kailua pork sandwich bun helped soak up some of that amazing juiciness flavor and was complimented with fresh piping hot crispy French fries and a side of mac salad-not full of Mayo sauce, just the way I like it. I asked the staff what their favorite was and they said the garlic chicken. Wish I had room. Simply a reason to come back and try it. The cocktails are fantastic! Fresh squeezed fruit juice with a nice selection of tiki drinks to suite everyone. The ambience is pretty cool too with bamboo walls and tiki pizazz. I'm giving this place two thumbs up. Nice job I'll be returning with my appetite for that garlic chicken.

This place is a beautiful hidden gem located on 65th foster. The food was AMAZING, I ordered the pork kalua ramen, and teriyaki chicken. The Mac salad is definitely worth a try as well. But, the cocktails were the real star of the show. Our bartender Candy was quick, extremely friendly and accommodating. She saw to it that all of our needs were met with quick, professional, and cheerful service. And overall was a pleasant and friendly person to talk to. She was definitely one of the best bartenders I've ever had!! 10/10 experience. I would highly recommend, ask for the bartender Candy and I guarantee you will have great service.
