I had the pulled chicken platter with lima beans and corn, plus a side of fried okra. Anjelina had the small pulled pork platter with slaw and the lima beans and corn. The food was DELICIOUS. Both the pulled chicken and pulled pork were tender, well cooked and full of flavor. The sauces were particularly good. The Kansas City style was sweet and savory, while the Carolina mustard sauce was tangy with just enough kick. Both were excellent with the barbecue. As usual, dining out for us requires a little more homework than simply deciding what sounds good. Between the two of us, we bring a tree nut allergy, Alpha-Gal syndrome, a gluten allergy and dairy sensitivity to the table -- with diabetes thrown in as the kicker, just in case ordering dinner was getting too easy. Our waiter seemed to genuinely understand the allergy issues and was confident in the restaurant's ability to accommodate them. He was friendly, helpful and made us comfortable with our choices. When you're dealing with actual food allergies, that confidence and knowledge matter. The dining room was spacious, clean and had a good casual barbecue atmosphere. There was also a live band playing while we were there, which we weren't expecting but ended up really enjoying. They were good, although the music made things a little loud. Wholly Smokin' works well for a casual date, getting together with friends or just a good everyday meal. I'd also be comfortable using it for a casual business lunch or dinner, although the live music could make conversation more difficult depending on when you visit. Good barbecue, excellent sauces, friendly service and a positive experience navigating our somewhat ridiculous collection of dietary restrictions. We'd happily eat here again.

We got the crab cake platter, blackened catfish platter, honey pecan chicken roll, crab cake…read moresandwich, and the white russian pecan pie. After having the crab cake sandwich we would recommend doing the platter because the bread overpowers the crab cake. Everything was incredible, the flavors, consistency, and quality. It is for sure comfort food but nothing sits heavy and feels super fresh. Not a fan of coleslaw but it was super yummy and great corn fritters for our first time having them. Service was great. Ambiance was super informal and adds to the vibe of what you're eating. Also unrelated but the cashier/server has a super calming energy/presence/voice which totally added to the vibe

Wow, REALLY good! Catfish Dinner Plate: excellent fish was…read moretasty and light. Rice was nice. Came with slaw, 1x Side (Collard Greens: sweet vinegar with some heat, and a bit of pork, really good!), and some AMAZING Hushpuppies (fresh, sweet corn bread). Shrimp & Grits: Fantastic! Buttery and cheesy grits with sausage and nice shrimp (not over-cooked or chewy). Green beans were slightly too soft (30-mins until closing), but good comfort food. Coleslaw was "meh," but a good, crunchy foil to the fish and rice. Counter Service (order at register, then they bring to table/to-go) was quite fast, given that they had to cook the fish and prep foods for take-out. Everything looked clean, staff was nice, and owner was talking to everyone. Didn't get to try the variety of desserts, but they looked and smelled great. Traveling, but worth the stop!

The Gator which is a prime rib sandwich was so overcooked it was like a piece of shoe leather…read morecompletely lacking in any flavor, the sandwich was also supposed to come with horseradish sauce however they had run out of horseradish sauce. The onion rings were also very poor in terms of taste and texture it was like eating a donut with an onion in the middle. My wife ordered the pulled pork plate with mac and cheese this also came with hush puppies the hush puppies were chewy and completely lacked any flavor, the pulled pork was tender but unfortunately had been over seasoned with a very harsh spice, her onion rings were also basically donuts with onions in the middle. The only highlight if you could call it that was the mac and cheese which was decent. How this place rates four stars I have absolutely no idea more like one and a half stars. As for the service our food was brought to us fairly quickly which was nice but we should have been informed that they were out of components for making some of the food which would have altered our menu selections. Clearly at some point this was a bar that had closed down and has now been reopened as a barbecue restaurant the decor is fairly simple and casual if not rustic. Overall a huge disappointment.
