Ribs, fall off the bone ribs!!

We've lived within an hour of this place for 9 months now, and probably had it about 9 times....its delicious! Often times we get 1/2 lbs of chopped bbq pork, or a bbq pork sandwich, but this time around we tried to ribs! WOW! This guy definitely knows what he's doin around a smoker. So happy to have found an incredible local bbq joint. Do not sleep on this place, don't pass it because it doesn't look fancy enough. Stop when you are heading to the beach, stop again on your way home!! 10/10 every time we have been!

So the pulled bbq plate was great and very tasty . The Philly cheese steak on a hamburger bun was different, but none the less, very tasty, only reason I'm not giving a 5 star is because the seating accommodations are not the best but worth the stop !!!

Inside parlor - clean and no flies!

Best BBQ around! We tried the small platter and were not disappointed. The ribs were absolutely delicious! This guy knows how to smoke. The slaw was perfect. We even bought a bottle of red sauce. Great food and great service! P.S. The inside parlor was clean and no flies. Dog friendly too!

The hickory smoke smelled much better than the barbecue tasted.

Stopped in for lunch 11/18 on the way to the beach for Thanksgiving. Kind of an odd set up. You order and pick up you food from a food trailer. In front of the trailer is a building with old booths and tables. It also has a large screen TV, a lone pool table and a bathroom. If you don't want a large Trump cut out staring at you while you eat, have to listen to Fox news blasting from the TV or read other political crap plastered all over the inside, then I suggest you eat outside or in your vehicle. On the back side of the trailer is a picnic area with concrete tables and benches, wooden picnic tables and old booths with tables which is where we sat since it was sunny and 77 the day we stopped in. There is also tons of stacked hickory wood out back used for smoking. We both got pork barbecue sandwiches without slaw since they only have the green mayo based slaw neither one of us like. Plus they charge extra for slaw on a sandwich here which has always been included on a sandwich at any other barbecue joint we have eaten at. The barbecue was chopped so fine it was like barbeque mush and we have never, ever eaten barbeque chopped this fine before. Although you could taste the smoke and you received a generous portion on slightly larger than normal bun, it was far from best barbecue we have ever eaten especially for the price, with a barbeque sandwich without slaw costing $7 each, $8 each with slaw. We split some baked beans for our side that were served room temp at best that came straight from a can and was some the worst baked beans we have ever eaten. All drinks come in cans or bottles. Two barbeque pork sandwiches with one side, one water and a Pepsi was just shy of $25, cash only. Service was friendly. My wife ended up with an upset stomach after eating here and we both said the same thing, we have eaten barbecue that was way better than what we got here, so this place was a one and done for us.

D'z BBQ Sampler platter. Baked beans, slaw, ribs, pulled pork and brisket.

I've been on a best bbq in the Carolinas quest for 6 months now. I found this mon n pop, very out of the way place on the way home from the beach. I got the smaller sampler platter for two. The portions were generous and the $28 price reasonable. There was no sauce provided and no drinks were included. The beans tasted like they were right out of a can and included no bacon/pork. Very bland. The slaw taste like it was from a grocery store rather than home made. Didn't seem fresh/crisp. The ribs were charred and dry to the bone. The pulled pork was pulverized like hash. It had a mushy texture and the sauce was spicy. The brisket was the star of the show. It needed no sauce as good bbq should be. It was tender and fatty. Not the best Ive had but good enough. Really good compared to the rest.

We ordered the pork bbq sandwich basket. For $6 you get just the sandwich, but for $12 you also get a small amount of slaw and unremarkable crinkle fries. The sandwich is sizable by itself. The pork bbq is, let's say, interesting. I've grown up eating eastern carolina vinegar bbq, but I've never tasted a concoction like this. I felt like I'd smoked a pack of cigarettes after eating the sandwich as it had so much smoke flavoring added to it. I don't see how that much smoke flavor would be infused into the meat just from the cooking process, unless cardboard adds that much flavor. Overall, it was ok and we would probably not drive across town to eat here again.

He was SO hospitable, sweet and genuinely welcoming. He gave great recommendations and did not steer us wrong. These days, it's not always easy to come across service like that, which made it even more appreciated. I ordered the Sunset Blush drink and it was delicious. We also got the cornbread and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the BEST cornbread I've ever had. So soft and flavorful. The brisket sandwich was a little dry (could be because we went during closing) but still had really good flavor. The mac and cheese though... WOW. I am very picky with mac and cheese and most places miss the mark, but this tasted homemade. Easily a 10/10. My husband got the peach bourbon burger and said it was great. The kids ate everything in sight which is always a win...lastly the cinnamon roll cheesecake for dessert... phenomenal!!! Overall such a great experience and I'm really glad we stopped in!

After driving 15 hours on March 21, 2026, my husband and I were genuinely excited to try this place and planned to take our food back to the hotel. Unfortunately, the experience started off poorly and never really recovered. First, parking is extremely limited out front, which is frustrating when you're tired and just want a quick pickup. Inside, things only got worse. The front-of-house staff was shockingly unprofessional. The employee helping us clearly didn't understand her job and had to be corrected multiple times by another staff member--something no customer should have to witness. It created confusion, delays, and zero confidence in our order. We paid about $50 for a sampler, which is not cheap, and yet the same employee argued about giving us the sides because she entered the order incorrectly. If another, more competent employee hadn't stepped in, I'm convinced it would have escalated further. Even then, we never received one of the four sides we paid for. To make matters worse, we were never asked if we wanted drinks to go, and we weren't given plates, silverware, or even BBQ sauce--basic essentials for a takeout order. That's just unacceptable. While waiting, we also watched this same employee tell three separate dine-in families to go sit and wait while she stood there rolling silverware. Completely rude and dismissive. If I had been one of those customers, I would have walked out. This is the first impression customers get, and it's a terrible reflection of how the place is run. Between the disorganization, poor communication, and outright unfriendly behavior, the service was a mess. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because the food itself was actually very good. The burnt ends and ribs were the standout--absolutely delicious. But great BBQ can't fully make up for such a frustrating and poorly managed customer experience.

It wasn't long enough of a visit since the girls and their mom stayed in the car! GRRR.. From a grandma's perspective, the first thing I noticed was how clean and well-kept everything was. The restrooms? Absolutely spotless--honestly better than some hotels I've stayed in. There were green and red lights on the outside of each stall to let you know which stalls were available and which were occupied. The lines moved very quickly. That alone makes it worth the stop when you're traveling with kids. Now, for my grandson, this place was like walking into a wonderland. His eyes lit up the second we walked in. Between the rows of snacks, the huge drink stations, and all the fun Buc-ee's merchandise, he didn't know where to look first. He was especially fascinated with the Toy section there were so many to chose from. It was a Saturday so this place was very busy. I heard Al Roker from the Today show praise the brisket sandwiches. I also wanted one but the wait was too long. We ended up grabbing some treats--beaver nuggets (of course!), 3 slushies, beef jerkey, candy bars, chocolate covered pretzels, and a couple of souvenirs magnets, t-shirts, Buc-ees water bottle and a Buc-ees tumbler he insisted we "had to have." I appreciated that there were plenty of options, whether you want something indulgent or a quick, decent meal on the go. What really stood out to me was how easy everything felt, even with a little curious little boy in tow. Plenty of space, clear layout, and friendly staff who didn't seem bothered by all of the people shopping. All in all, Buc-ee's in Florence isn't just a gas stop--it's the ultimate shopping experience. You must go atleast once in your lifetime! If you're traveling with grandkids, plan a little extra time.
