I've been to D'Parma's a few times since I "discovered" Winthrop and each time, it's been excellent. The restaurant space itself is small, so getting a table on a weekend can take a little time, but the staff are friendly. It's a BYOB environment, with a conveniently-located liquor store across the street, but overall it doesn't tend to get rowdy. The first time, some friends and I ordered food for take out. I had the house special risotto with sundried tomatoes in a light vodka sauce. It was excellent. Another time, I ordered a chicken parm meal. The chicken parm was cooked perfectly, sometimes places overcook it and it gets dry around the edges. The last time I was there, about two weeks ago, I ordered a tortellini soup in broth, which was a little salty for me, and a special order of fried chicken ravioli in a goat cheese sauce. The stuffed mushrooms (with pancetta) smothered in a creamy alfredo sauce is amazing, and the mushroom ravioli are good too. read more

In a town with so very little to offer in terms of a sit down, delicious meal, D'Parma in Winthrop is a hidden gem. Well worth a drive in for those in the surrounding towns craving a true North End Italian restaurant without having to battle the authentic North End parking crisis. If you like shellfish, then you'll find perfection in the Dimare Risotto. The shell fish is always cooked just right and as long as you remember to stop off at the local liquor store and grab yourself a bottle of red wine to accompany your meal, ($3 corking fee), your meal couldn't be more perfect. With this in mind, the decor is homey - but can get a bit dark. Hopefully they invest in some table lamps or tea lights. Yet, even with the relative darkness of the restaurant... or the army of baskets hanging all over the ceiling... this place is a hit every time. read more

Still good food and fun place to go! Tonight I got the frutti di mare which was packed full of mussels, exactly what I was hoping. A heaping pile of warm crusty bread was a perfect addition to the cold night (and many jugs..yes jugs of wine). The service was quick and friendly, and there was julienned basil atop the dish (for those of you who claim they didnt have a shred of herb). Prices have gone up a lot, and hopefully they see that they should go back down soemtime, but overall its the same 4 star experience for me. read more

"What was I thinking" I pondered this after leaving this unique place. A week ago I had just enjoyed the best marsala ever at one of their competitors and then i ordered it here and it did not measure up. I mean, don't get me wrong, it was a damn good chicken marsala, just not as good as the competition. The food was excellent, far better than most other Italian places. I needed to try this place out because my friends always recommend. I am glad I did. The dining room resembles a small-scale Rainforest Cafe (Burlington Mall) and the staff is very nice! I know the reviews are all over the place, and there's a good reason. This is a pretty polarizing establishment. I should say, before my wife and I moved in together she lived very close to this place, so we're a bit more biased than others. This place is a family style Italian restaurant. You're not going to find 4 or 5 star fare here. The portions are large, the food is heavy and the decor is...eclectic at best. Lots of old wood, horsehair plaster and a giant tree growing in the middle of the place. When I went, I got an Italian sub- which came on toasted bread, which puzzled me. I also asked for hot peppers and they gave me sweet banana peppers. Despite this, it was pretty delicious. I have had their risotto in the past and liked it very much. The service wasn't much to speak of, with long pauses and lack of post-meal delivery check in. As with anyplace in Winthrop, this place is dry, so BYOB. Not sure if there is a corking fee. So, if you're looking for down-home style over the top Italian where the locals eat, this is your place. On a weekend night, this place is packed to the brim with laughing people with full bellies, it's that kind of place. If you're looking for an upscale or authentic experience, or somewhere to bring a date for a more romantic atmosphere, I say keep walking. read more

Took me awhile to remember this place enough to actually write a review but now that I am on here, I feel it is my duty to steer other foodies away from terribly overrated food and lousy service. DParmas came highly recommended. My husband and I are fans of Jevelis so we though another family owned Italian restaurant would be a good choice. WRONG Saturday afternoon. Place is almost empty. HUH??? Decor is cheesy but so is Jeveli's. I'm here for the MANGIA!!!! We ordered the antipasto meat plate as an appetizer. Veal Marsala and Veal Parm. The app never shows up? Waitress is a complete scatterbrain. We don't complain though. Just figure we'll save 10 bucks on the bill. The Marsala should have been on the dessert menu. Sweet does not properly describe the flavor. Sauce was thin with no body to it. I asked to HOLD the mushrooms but there were still bits swimming in the most unappetizing Marsala sauce.. Total disappointment. My husband's veal parm was mediocre at best and he NEVER complains. The tomato sauce tasted medicinal, the cutlet had no flavor and the cheese was over browned. We did not even ask to take the food home and the waitress did not even ask why.. Though she did argue with us that she brought our appetizer when the 10.95 charge showed on the bill. To the point that she asked the kitchen to confirm that they had, in fact, made the plate (Which they said they hadn't) We will not be returning and my mom wants to go to the one in Eastie for her birthday. We went to D'Parma after waiting an hour to get into Rosetti's a couple blocks away. Rosetti's has always been a favorite in Winthrop with delicious food. I had never been to D'Parma before, but some people I was with had eaten there. It was great. Also a BYOB (like Rosetti's - which is good!), and the food is also very good. I would say that Rosetti's is just a tad better than D'Parma in terms of food quality, but I would eat at either restaurant ANY day. Started my meal with a salad and I enjoyed the Shrimp Grill over baby spinach, which was delicious. Several others at my table enjoyed the Fruitti D'Mare Pasta and couldn't say enough about it. Ordinary is a good word to describe the food here. The menu options are ordinary, the food tastes, and is presented, in an ordinary way. The bread is almost tasteless. My dish was gnocchi. The tomato sauce was tasty, but the gnocchi themselves were bland and tasted old. My friend ordered a pasta dish with seafood on top. There was a decent amount of assorted seafood on the plate, however, the mussels tasted bad, and there's no excuse for that. The place itself is cute and has a cozy ambiance. I like how it is a small, locally run restaurant. But the food is just too below average to bother going there. read more

D'Parma is certainly a hidden gem. My partner and I have been here plenty of times and the food has always been superb. We always order our favorite dishes from start to finish- stuffed mushrooms, lobster raviolis, and the coppa pineapple dessert. We've also tried the eggplant rolls in a tomato sauce which is exquisite! and the linguine frutti di mare is delicious with the perfect amount of seafood. The side salad with this amazing balsamic dressing is mouth watering too! Not only is the food great, the service is awesome, on top of the BYOB! This is the one of the best places to go to make you feel as if you're in Little Italy. The frutti d' mare is unbelievable. The white sauce and the red sauce are both good but I would recommend the white sauce dish. I've been coming to D'Parma since 99 (I miss the location on Hanover St immensely (side story: One of the cooks at the Hanover location also used to work at Northeastern's dining hall when I went to school there. It was nice seeing a friendly face welcome me when I showed up for a meal. I was sad when that location closed. Also loved the free parking across the st) Fast forward 16 years later...). I recently ate here last Wednesday; it's been a few years but I was happy to see that not much has changed when it comes to the menu. I consider this to be the best Italian food I've ever eaten. I'd rather eat here than any other establishment in the North End. From taste to portion size to price, I'm not sure there's many other restaurants that can stand up to this quality of Italian meal. Honestly, I don't know how you can possibly have a negative experience eating here. I see people below giving 2 stars while complain about the restaurant closing at 10 (seriously??) or 2 stars while praising another restaurant 15 miles away. But I'd like to see someone on here give this place 2 stars while ordering the Veal SALTIMBOCCA. Thinking about it makes my taste buds go mad. I'd also highly recommend the DParma Salad for a lighter (maybe for lunch) meal. This will forever be a favorite establishment of mine. read more

Based on one recent visit here, I would gladly return. D'Parma is a classic neighborhood Italian restaurant that isn't stuffy or formal. This isn't where you go for classic gourmet authentic regional Italian food. This is the type of place where you go for well-executed Italian-American classics, with a few surprises thrown in on the menu. It is the type of place where the chicken parm is good (I know, I tried it), the pasta is plentiful, and the sauce is delicious. No, it probably doesn't come from a local organic farm where the tomatoes were hand-picked, but it is still satisfying and makes you smile. I know several people who have been there on several occasions and haven't had a bad meal. Being BYOB, it makes for a great deal - the prices are reasonable, you get a plentiful serving of quality Italian grub, and you can choose the wine you want from the liquor store across the street. My wife and I were visiting Winthrop and went to the D'Parma restaurant to try out the meatball sub (recommended by a neighbor). The service was excellent as was the sandwich. There was a nice atmosphere and a 'no rush' attitude from the staff. Luckily, we had good food everywhere we went during our stay but were able to go back to D-Parma twice more before leaving town. The best thing I like about D'Parma is that we didn't get a corking fee for the bottle of wine we brought in ourselves. I've been to places that charge up to $20 for a corking fee, so free was a very welcome change. The decorations have been revamped a little, and it shows. There is a nice tree surrounded in stringed lights with the lights threaded through some lattices up the cieling. The food we ordered was a lobster ravioli and the linguini with the frutti di mare. I liked both well enough to go back if I'm ever in the area, which is hardly ever. Was it my favorite food ever? Not so much, but it was A-OK. Our waitress was wonderful and friendly. And we had a great time. I would gladly come back and try their other dishes, maybe there's something else more my style. read more

When D'Parma Winthrop first opened it was a hit. Food was unbelievable all at a reasonable price. The last few years I feel this place keeps getting worse. I just got a Chicken Parm and Linguini for take out and it was awful. Stingy on the cheese and sauce, pasta was white and watery at the bottom. No sauce is just the worst. Just called to voice my opinion and the person on the phone insisted he put enough sauce on the plate. For now on it's just D'Parma Salads with Prosciutto. That's the best they have going for them and it's hard to mess up./ read more

Nice atmosphere. My husband I enjoyed his mussels in red sauce but my cajun stuffed mushrooms were not so stuffed. Meat from the sauce was placed in the mushrooms after being cooked. My husband's steak porcini was awful. Terrible cut overcooked with thin sauce. He requested it rare and the server said well. We both told her rare and she said well again before realizing he said rare. It came out well. My baked gnocchi dish was ok, not as expected. Between main course and dessert we were forgotten about. Dessert course was very disappointing. The cannoli tasted like the ricotta had turned and the tiramisu was all lady fingers. Won't be back and don't recommend. read more

I moved within walking distance of D'Parma not long ago and it quickly became our go-to Italian place. BYOB is nice and I personally like the slightly frigid air conditioning for summertime dine-in. I've had several meals that I found flavorful and fulfilling. I've had generally fair to positive experiences in terms of service. Take-out has been consistent, too. Prices seem fair, although I was a little put off that the prices are almost never what is printed on the menus. I've enjoyed their eggplant parm and mushroom rizotto quite a bit. I agree with the reviewer who said everything here swims in cream sauce. I'm actually a fan of their sauces, but I do stress it's not for everyone, especially if you prefer your pesto or carbonara more to the oily side than heavy/creamy. Frutti demare was a tasty, solid meal, but not epic. Gnocchi was good. I think my initial flare for the place has fizzled a bit after countless dine-in experiences. Not that I've ever had a bad experience here. This was a no-brainer 5-star favorite place after my first couple visits, but I'm finding myself less impressed with each new item I try and the consistently underwhelming staff. read more

Been to D'Parmas a few times since living in Winthrop. When my friend and I dined it, service was good. Wait staff was nice and courteous. Food is okay. My boyfriend and I usually get the tortellini alfredo. I've never have any complaints about it, but my boyfriend, who's been here a lot more than I have, has said the food has gone down hill. He does however love the garden salad, the dressing that is. He absolutely loves it. He says he could drink it. I too find the dressing very appetizing. The oil they serve for the bread seems like it's bit on the spicy side. I like spice, but to be in oil meant for bread is a little too much for me. I prefer the oil they use in the East Boston location. One little complaint... it is dumb and silly, but still... I find it silly that they charge you if you ask for oil to take home but you can go crazy with it if you dine in. Like I said, it's a stupid little complaint, and I don't even like the oil, but it's one thing I noticed. read more

I stayed in Winthrop for a couple of days and wanted to try this place because I love Italian. Unfortunately it was soooo busy, my friend and I decided for take out. When we went to pick up the food you see how busy it was. Several people were waiting to be seated because all the tables were unavailable. The setting of the place is very nice, and perfect for any type of gathering; a date, dinner, lunch, etc. Now onto the food. I ordered the lobster ravioli. Let me tell you, it was so delicious. I don't have anything to compare it to because it was my first time having lobster ravioli, but I can say that my first time having it was a good experience. The sauce was so rich and delicious. Next time I'm in the Boston area, I'm definitely coming back, and hopefully for a sit-down lunch/dinner. read more

This is a nice neighborhood restaurant. It's intimate with a pleasant atmosphere, I like the white lights on the indoor trees. One of the best aspects of this place is that it is BYOB. You get to bring what you like to drink and it keeps the bill down! Conveniently, there is a liquor store right across the street, so you don't need to plan ahead. We were seated, greeted, and served quickly. The server brought out bread and oil right away, which I enjoyed. Then I had a salad, which was small, but I liked it. It had a creamy dressing on it that was tasty I had grilled shrimp over spinach. Your choice of three pastas is offered as a side dish. I asked for garlic oil on my pasta and was told, of course I could have that. Shrimp and spinach are two of my favorite foods, but the spinach was raw as in a spinach salad, which seemed a little odd to me as a dinner entree. Typically, a shrimp entrée is served with cooked spinach, but I decided to try this. If it was meant to be more of a spinach salad with grilled shrimp, then I think there should have been more vegetables included. Anyway, it was a healthy dinner. read more
