Although it was late in the day, Craig said to bring it over and he'd take a look. I walked in; he dropped what he was doing and opened up my computer. In 10 minutes or less, I was back in business--both problems fixed. It was clear he knew what he was doing and did it extremely well! If you need tech repair and live anywhere near Columbia, MD, call the Computer Shop. You won't regret it! Quality service in every way, from his professional demeanor and kindness to the quality of his work! Thank you, Computer Shop!

This review is the sum total of two vastly different experiences. One was a five star review…read moreencounter at this Computer Shop. The other was so bad that I don't think I'll return. The Good: I came by because my computer and my brother's computer weren't working. The employee quickly diagnosed the problems, walked me through his thought process, and had me out and on my way within the 1/2 hour. I left feeling valued and empowered with knowledge. The Ugly: This shop advertises cellphone screen repair. Usually I do this myself; however, one of my tools had broken and I didn't want to wait for the replacement to come in the mail. AVOID PHONE REPAIR. I dropped my iPhone off around noon. I was informed that they would contact me when the crack in my screen was fixed. I know that a screen replacement isn't a time intensive task; so, when I hadn't heard anything after a few hours, I thought I'd call to see where my item was in the queue. As it turns out, the phone had already been examined. They did not have the proper tools to fully replace the screen and I was informed I could pick up the phone. This should have been communicated to me sooner. When I went to pick up the phone I found that in the process of examining it, they had broken the home button. After sticking around to inquire about this, I was told they could not fix this. In addition, they misplaced one of the screws to open the phone. It's not a huge deal, but it's a slight discoloration and it will be noticeable when I bring it in to the Apple store for an actual repair. This error has resulted in extreme inconvenience and increased cost, as the price for a screen and home button replacement is significantly more expensive now that I have to take it to the Apple store. The only saving grace is that I wasn't charged for this ordeal. The employees definitely know what they're talking about when it comes to computer hardware. Don't come here for cellphones. There was no remedy offered for the mistake made. I understand that mistakes happen when it comes to making repairs. A hand slips, a screw gets lost--okay. An apology and some kind of remedy go a long way to ensuring that a customer doesn't feel taken advantage of.

I recently took an external hard drive that had crashed because I have valuable information in it…read more The business advertises itself as doing data recovery. I dropped off the hard drive and was told that I would get a call in a few days with a diagnosis. There are signs everywhere that there is a diagnostic fee of $59. If you get the work done, the diagnostic fee is applied to the price of the work. After a week of waiting I called to get a status. I called on a Saturday and was told to call Monday to speak to the tech. I called backkn Monday and was told the drive was too damaged for any data to be extracted. I paid the $59 fee. See snapshot from my bank statement. I threw away the receipt. I then continued looking and found a place to ship it to, free of charge. They received it and immediately contacted me back that they are able to recover data, maybe not all but guaranteed recovery. That is in the works as I write this review. This is why I didn't write the review sooner because now I know for a fact that they gave me wrong information. I would be totally fine and cool with paying a disgnostic fee to get a diagnosis. This place didn't give me that. For all I know they may not have done anything. They said the drive qould not work with any of their software. I qould be totally okay with them being honest and telling me this is what is wrong, you need these parts and it will cost this much and we do not do it. It is obvious they do not have the expertise or equiment to do data recovery unless it is simple but if that was the case I could have done it. In any event, I do not feel that this business is ethical when they charge you to tell you something can't be salvaged when I now know it can be. I am upset and sharing this so it doesn't happen to you.

Manager on duty was very kind and helpful, and they had a small supply of in stock available equipment ready for purchase for business users. They do carry a number of niche business computer pieces, as well as some gaming hardware pieces - such as nvidia series GT1070 card. I would definitely feel more comfortable bringing them my hardware for computers repairs than someone like think geek or the geek squad.
