This was my first visit to the Brush Salon & Spa and I think it is not going to be the last. I desperately needed a haircut for an important appointment and needed to get rid off my "stay-at-home" hairstyle that I have kept for the last 5 months like right away . Unfortunately, our regular hairstylist wasn't available for us and since we are relatively new in the Monroe area, we didn't know who could be able to save my appointment on such a short notice . Of course, I went to Yelp for advice to find a hair salon with a good reputation in town, which is how I ended finding this one. To be honest, after getting used to somebody it is very hard for me to experimenting with someone else working on my hair. But, under the circumstances, I didn't have another choice than taking the risk. However, thanks God my experience at the Brush Salon & Spa surpasses my expectations. I spent over two weeks trying to pick it out and finally had to concede defeat. I called brush salon and spa the receptionist was amazing listened to everything I had to say and set me up with Kelly for the next day. I have had Kelly cut my own hair as well as Jody and both ladies do exceptional work. The care and understanding that we received was exceptional. Kelly was able to work with her save a good portion of the length on her hair and create a beautiful style. She was so happy for the rest of the day it really made a huge difference. I wanted to love this salon since I live in town. The experience making an appointment was very nice and the stylist even offered earlier time when spot became available. Salon was clean and quiet too!! I had my hair cut short, and although the length is what I wanted, after a wash and blow at home, I can see very uneven layers and I do not like the silhouette at all. I wouldn't mind little unevenness if the overall silhouette looks put together, but my pixi cut has weird top and bottom layers that aren't blended in together. I'll wear hats and headbands for next month until I can get it fixed somewhere else. :( read more

I went in for a foil to lighten my hair. The stylist left the bleach on my hair too long. Now I have a ring of short hair all the way around my head. My hair grows so slow and it will take forever to grow this out. I can't even wear my hair down now. I do not recommend this salon. read more

Yikes...Where do I begin? I came into this salon a couple days before my wedding to get a Brazilian wax with the salon's only esthetician. Now, I have been getting Brazilians elsewhere for about two years now and I have never had any of the issues that I experienced at this salon. First, the esthetician tried a different wax on me than she normally would after asking the color of wax that the salon I frequent in Bellingham uses. I did not request for her to do this and told her that I knew nothing about what color wax should be used; after all, I am not the professional. The wax got stuck to my skin in the most sensitive area and it took over an hour for her to cut it out with scissors. I was in tears and more pain than I had ever experienced getting a wax done. She attempted to correct the mess for another hour and finally, after being quite shaken and in pain, she finished. Unfortunately, my "Brazilian" looked awful and kept me in a lot of pain for the two days leading up to my wedding. The esthetician was a nice lady, and she did not charge me or my bridal party for her services that day, and also threw in a bottle of lotion to try and reconcile the events. However, I was quite upset when she blamed the thickness of my hair for the issues we had experienced that day AND when she told my friend that I had requested the wax, which is simply not true. I am sure that they do a great job doing haircuts...but I cannot recommend this salon for waxing and will not be going back anytime soon. UPDATE: The manager of the salon sought me and and informed me that the esthetician who performed my "wax" is no longer employed at the salon, which is a relief. However, she also went on to rudely order me to remove my post which I will not be doing. While I acknowledge that they gave me a bottle of lotion for my troubles, it simply cannot make up for a wedding night in pain because of the damage done to my skin at this establishment. :( read more

I needed a little trim and a couple of layers and since this salon was conveniently next to my EVCC class in the Lake Tye Building, I decided to take a look. I went in on Tuesday and right when I walked in on Tuesday the ladies made me feel welcome and answered all of my questions. They let me look around the salon to get a feel of the atmosphere and showed me how they worked. I was impressed and made an appointment for Thursday at 10:00. They also gave me and my friend a small bottIe of Hempz lotion just for walking in. The lotions were awesome and smelled delightful. I was early on Thursday but it was not problem. Camby gave me my haircut immediately and took her time. I showed her a picture of the hairstyle I wanted and she did just that. She even styled my hair at the end for free while most salons charge extra for that. My haircut was $30.00 since it was my first time and they first timers a 20% discount. After waiting 20 minutes(15 minutes after my appointment time), I noticed my stylist chatting with her previous customers, not caring about the time. I had somewhere to be that day and also, that's just bad customer service, so I left. The client before me that was chatting had her young children running and yelling after me after I had gotten to my car. Don't let your children run after strangers. As another reviewer said, I hit the jackpot on my first shot! I told Susie I had never been able to deal with hair beyond being able to pull it back and pin it up so it had to be something simple to deal with. Susie has now cut my hair at least 5 or 6 times. Each time people I know are wowed by the result; and I am still flabbergasted that her cuts have been so easy to keep up even though they look much more complicated. I would not recommend this salon for wedding parties. The lighting is not right in the area we were for makeup and that lead to all the girls being a bit to dark. Also, the person was running behind, was late and took longer then originally said. Bride had left her hair down and ended up having to re-curl it herself after leaving. Cannot explain how disappointed I was with this salon. We were in town because we were having a wedding. The reviews looked good so we booked our facial waxing and the brides Brazilian... It was horrid! 2 hours for the Brazilian and the wax had to be cut out in places! The eyebrows were done well but the stylist didn't listen to how I wanted them done and while they look good they aren't the look I was asking for.
