Sweet Star Bakery is my go to spot for egg tarts in Brooklyn. Staff is usually fast and friendly so it's a quick in and out, and a few times I've come late in the day for rice rolls and they've made a fresh one for me if I'm willing to wait. They have a good variety of buns and dim sum, plus some homemade specialty items like put jai go and zhong zi. I like their pineapple buns, the custard one is always sold out by the afternoon so I'll get the red bean bun instead. They also mentioned they can do cake orders with a few hours notice if they're not too busy. I haven't tried their drinks yet since I'm always there for the baked goods. There's two tables inside and they're almost always taken by local seniors enjoying their tea time. Super convenient spot right by the 18th Ave D train to grab a drink or bite.

Ordered some savory hot food and pastries from this bakery for the first time via uber eats. The…read moresavory hot food is a no go but the breads are acceptable. Mushroom and chicken boxed rice - lots of chicken bone shards and too little pieces of Chinese sausage slices. Mixed rice noodle with fish ball - the fish ball option was something I requested for over the phone when they notified me one item that I ordered ran out. The fish ball was really tiny and on the harder side. Really not good quality fish balls. The rice noodle was not silky and smooth. The sauce was the worst part. Not enough sauce and too watered down. The flavors that's usually in the sauce were very subtle. Pork floss cheese loaf bread - the slices of bread were thick and fluffy so I was impressed. The pork floss cheese could be better. Not enough pork floss. Sounded better on paper Steamed Custard bun - it was a big bun so I excitedly ripped it apart but I found some weird charcoal color particles in the custard filling when I did that. Not sure what it was but in case it's a dead insect ripped apart, I threw out the whole bun Ham and cheese bun - just ok. I've had better at other bakeries. But again quite impressed with how fluffy the bread was Cha Siu bun - too oily on the exterior

The person that called me was very nice when they let me know about the replacement. The fried rice tasted hard. I've been in this bakery in the past - it's always very bright and airy. We will call in earlier next time.

I found this cafe when while browsing Google Maps looking for pastries. I was intrigued by their…read morebreakfast deal which was $14 for a drink, sandwich, and a pastry! I preordered on the website for the pink matcha drink, spicy salmon banh mi, and strawberry croissant. When I first arrived, I was awed by how beautiful the place was! It was beautifully decorated with cute tables and chairs and florals. My order was also ready for pick up and I enjoyed it at one of the cute tables. The place was also incredibly busy, nonstop people coming in during the time I was there. Now back to the food: the pink matcha was cute! But the taste was a bit strange for me. It was mostly a tart fruit maybe a mix of blueberry and raspberry? And you could barely taste the matcha. It tasted more like a fruit smoothie almost. The spicy salmon banh mi was on sour dough bread, the bread was so good. Inside had salmon and pickled carrots but it wasn't really spicy at all. Still, it tasted pretty good. My favorite was the strawberry croissant. It was actually smaller than I expected but I think I like this size. It's a perfect snack and sometimes big croissants can be overwhelming. It had the perfect strawberry and cream filling inside that was not too sweet. I can't wait to come again to try their other sandwiches and pastries. Also everything is kosher is which great!

While he saved a table for us in the courtyard, I went inside to pick up our little matcha breakfast that morning. On Sundays, the bakery opens at 11. I also grabbed a keema curry pan (キーマカレーパン) and some bottled teas for later since we would be walking around a lot. There's a cold case to the left that holds a wide variety of beverages - which includes ITO EN teas, Ramune, other specialty Japanese drinks, and your standard waters and sodas.
