I've taken two separate cars to D & D Autoworks on Minnetonka and have had the best experiences. This location is really prominent -- diagonal from McDonalds, right next to the high school, down the road from hwy 7 and close to 100. There's not a lot of parking but I've always had room when I needed it. There are a few chairs inside, a TV, and a culligan water dispenser if you need to wait. If it's nice out there are a bunch of places nearby you could walk to if you'd rather get out. I took my car to the dealership for a routine oil change and ended up paying a stupid amount of money and vowed to not go back and that I'd learn about my car so I could do it myself. Someone must have felt like challenging that vow because the next day, my headlight went out. I called the dealership just to check and no, of course that wasn't covered in my routine service, and it would be at least $100 to fix. I ended up buying the parts I needed after some research on YouTube and tried to do it myself. It wasn't working for me, so I called around and got a couple other quotes. The second place I called (after the dealership) quoted me $47.20. Weirdly specific, but ok. Then I called D & D for a third opinion and Eric told me to bring it in so he could see what he'd need to work with. I brought it over about 15 min after I called and Eric told me it'd either be $15-20 or if they couldn't get it and needed to remove the bumper, $150. I asked how likely it would be to pay the higher amount and he said it was 50/50. I agreed to bring my car in the next day (today) and have them work on it between services. I dropped my car off at 7 am today with Ryan. He was very kind and personable, especially for 7 am. I got a call less than an hour later from Ryan letting me know my car was ready. Since I brought my replacement part, the labor was about $20. I have had such a good experience at D&D and don't feel intimidated when I go -- they treat you with respect and don't bullsh*t you. (Can I swear? Lol whatever.) As a woman, it can be really difficult at auto repair places. If you know, you know. But that's not the case here -- only respect and education. I will be returning to D&D on Minnetonka for all my car services and recommending them to anyone who will listen!

This is a Hotwheel and for all I know Erik has worked on this car as well!

Auto Repair is a lot like Human Repair and frankly, going somewhere big and fancy with marble floors, a lobby barista, and a piano player by a fireplace means absolutely nothing when it comes to competence. In fact, there is likely an inverse relationship to the level of fancy amenities and ability to actually fix what is wrong. Glitz can cover up a lot and I guarantee that if I am shot or stabbed, I want to go to the County Trauma Center and not the place with building wings endowed by a sheik. The same is true for my LRs. When they need help, they go here and not the fancy dealer with the glass showroom. Owned and operated by Eric, he got his initial training by LR and then left the dealer to open his own shop. He was factory trained and I have been bringing my babies to him for about 20 years. In that time, he has been fair, given me some great advice, and helped me keep my LRs running well which is saying something as my newest one is 15 years old and my oldest ones are 23 years old. Prices are within reason (especially when compared to dealers) but the real win is that he and his staff know their way around a LR. Just drive onto their lot and it looks like a LR playground because there are no less than a dozen different ones parked there at any point in time to admire. Over the years his reputation and business has grown which speaks volumes as dedicated LR owners can be a fickle group and hold very specific requirements on who can actually touch their LRs. I let him touch mine. This place has a following that is well-deserved.

Each time working on the car, they seem to cause other problems that result in money out of my pocket. How does that make sense? Once, I got it back with the engine light on. When I went back and said what caused this, the tech told me, he saw that one, but sent me home with it on anyway and without telling me. They don't care, or they do not know what they are doing. I offered that an as explanation, they may not have the expertise for an older car. This led to them Blaming the car, rather than themselves, while still stating they can work on older cars. I wanted my money back after taking it back again and they trying to talk me into spending more money with them, saying, well, if we honor the compressor warranty, it will cost you this much more for us to recharge etc. I wanted to believe in this place, but feel as though I have been taken advantage of as an older person. I took it elsewhere to verify the compressor is bad for the 4th time, and again I can't trust they can do it right. I am also having trouble finding a corporate number to call to complain. They are no longer franchises, but owned by Sun Auto. Thanks, and help would be appreciated. Mary, MPLS MINNESOTA
