Before my appointment, I received a fair and transparent estimate for the AC issues I was concerned about. When I arrived, Mike greeted me with a friendly smile and explained the process clearly -- no jargon, no pressure, just honesty. One big bonus? They offer a free ride service for locals to and from the shop. I've never had that before, and it made dropping off my car so much easier. They also communicated throughout the day via text with updates, which I really appreciated. When I came back to pick up my car, the bill was walked through step-by-step, and I was told that if the issue worsens, I can bring it back within a year for a free assessment or fix. Turns out there is an oxygen pressure sensor vent that's part of the gas cap. I had recently switched out the original one for an after-market one and apparently the seal wasn't exactly right. I put the original back in and the Check Engine light went out. Some other repair techs might have charged an awful lot to "investigate and diagnose" that problem. He also gave me a free travel mug and a bottle opener keychain, too :) The downside, if you could call it that, was the $100 charge. But that's comparable to similar shops in the cities and it did come with two hours of testing and the peace of mind of knowing my car isn't going to fall apart like a looney tunes car. This has been my experience at all their locations. Most recently, I was heading back to Wisconsin for a family wedding. Long story short- I had car issues and Nelson's was the first call I made. They told me to bring it by and looked at it immediately. They were so kind, quick to act, and empathetic--I truly felt seen and valued. They helped me learn what I needed to do, and worked with me to get the job done right. I had to come for a follow up, and they took care of me again with such kindness, efficiency, and care. I had him add me to list for 7:30am (just in case) and advised that I was going to check out one more mechanic (nearby). Ultimately I went with Lowell's! The interaction with Lane felt more authentic. I appreciate that he was willing to give a range, and advise how price would vary based on if it was a this problem, verses a that problem. The next morning I dropped my car off. Without knowing when they'd get to it, I just took a Lyft to a restaurant in NE for breakfast and figured I'd walk to work from there. My car was ready by 10am and while I could have gone back for it, I decided to wait till later in the day, which they were fine with. The other place had a loaner car, a waiting area, and would have cost less (based on the diagnosed issue, front brake pad & rotor). However, although I would have LOVED to save money, I'm happy I went with Lowell's... the place that made me feel assured. I would return.

My engine temperature gauge was in the red zone, and initially Rav thought it was a thermostat issue. I also got an oil change. Anyway, once the thermostat was replaced, he drove it around and the engine was still heating up. He suggested it could be a head gasket issue. I know just enough to to know that "gasket" means expensive, and when I, being the impulsive type that I am, asked how much and if he'd be willing to repair it, he basically said that it wasn't worth the money but conveyed sympathy for delivering the bad news. This is an HONEST mechanic, because he could have taken me for some serious money without fixing the problem, and I wouldn't have known better. He ended up putting the old thermostat back in the car and only charging me for the oil change. That car is now gone, but I will take my current car to Sterling when the dealer's promotional free service period expires.

In total I paid almost 200 so the Groupon is misleading IMO and all they did was vacuum the car and put tire shine on the wheels. As for quality of the service? There's still dirt all over my doors, they don't dress or shine the dash/doors, they didn't even clean the interior of my tailgate, and the ketchup on seatbelt? Still there.
