So yes, had I gone with that company, it would have cost me $2300. Armed with this information, I posted pictures and exactly what the "diagnosis" said and asked for emailed quotes...to be clear I said EMAIL only. I then got no less than 10 phone calls saying "please give us a call so we can talk about your situation. Some called more than once. Lakeland Heating and Cooling (Jason) was nothing like that... $1270 flat rate to replace the water heater. Yes, thats how he replied in his email.. as I requested. He came in.. with the water heater... replaced it... and went on his way. Other companies, that followed directions, also came in higher than $2000. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with Jason and Lakeland! George (technician) arrived timely and was very thorough. He explained things to me every step of the way. He is approaching this very methodically - ok, so it's not the igniter, let's look at the next link in the chain... I saw George called out by name in other Yelp reviews, and I understand why he comes so highly recommended! He called the manufacturer to discuss his findings, but the manufacturer tech team wasn't available. He let me know he would be calling them again in the morning and that he would reach out to me with an update. I've had plenty of negative or so-so experiences with other service technicians from other companies. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that I love these guys! In my mom's house, and then in my own, we had an ANCIENT HVAC system (circa 1956 on my furnace, 1952 on my mom's). Ascot kept both in good working condition well past their expected lives. This past summer, my boiler started making some loud noises, so, of course, I called Ascot. This time, the old girl was not going to make it. Ascot made some adjustments so that the noise would be reduced, but, since the unit was so old, the part that was rattling was no longer available. It was time for a new HVAC system. Doug (the owner) came by personally to give me an estimate on a new system. He took the time to explain all of my options and the pros and cons of each. At no time did I get the feeling that he was ever trying to "upsell" me. In fact, he was very straight forward about what he felt, in his professional opinion, was worth the cost, and what might be over and above what I needed. I really appreciated this as I really know very little about HVAC systems, other than what I was able to figure out through my own online research. I got two other estimates, and Ascot's price was right in the middle of the three. Ultimately, though, it came down to relationship and trust. I totally trust Ascot to do the job right, stand behind their work, and to be there to take care of me if any problems come up. Ascot installed my new furnace, chimney liner, and AC coil in October, and it has been working great. With the dip in temperatures this morning, I am very happy to be toasty warm in my well-heated house! They will come back in the spring to put in the new AC system.
