We had an amazing time with our couples massages. I had Kim and she is wonderful! She is an expert at manipulating muscles to release the tightest of tensions. I get massages all the time and she definitely exceeded my expectations. The spa is small but clean and quaint. I have been doing business at this spa for over 4 years. Christine the owner is a gem and cares about her business and her clients. My husband and I both are regular customers. The massages and facials are the best and the products they use are first class quality. My favorite is the pumpkin spice facial! They are located inside the Pier South hotel and the spa is spotless clean and they always have wine, coffee or tea available for the guests. Unfortunately this place didn't work out for me. I followed an esthetician Anna from a place in Chula Vista. Anna is great and I'd love to keep on seeing her but because of the lack of customer service and environment I won't return and I would not recommend this place. I've had multiple facials and a massage here. My massage was just ok, definitely not worth what they regularly charge so I'm glad I had a groupon. The rooms are muggy or you'll get one where the AC blows right on you, which doesn't provide a relaxing environment. I asked one of the staff who to go for a massage and they said the masseuses there couldn't apply firm enough pressure for her but to try it out for myself. I also prefer firm pressure which was also lacking during my massage. After my massage I wasn't offered any water or any other beverage even though I saw that other customers were offered. Customer service is what lacks at this place. There's no consistency. On multiple occasions there is no front desk staff. So no one to answer the phones, check in or check out. Once I was asked to be charged prior to the service because she was leaving early. I also wanted their facial membership but since they don't have estheticians during the entire time they are open, getting appointments is difficult. If you aren't able to schedule a facial that month, then it doesn't roll over to the next month, you just lose it or have to pay $15 to reinstate it which is ridiculous. Good luck getting someone to answer the phone during business hours. I've had to call multiple times and only twice have reached a live person, most of the times you get a voicemail. read more

Yes, I only live a few blocks from this magnificent place! First I'd like to congratulate the owner from moving to this amazing location. As a Marriott fan, I know it must have been a dream come true to partner with such a recognized line for superior quality. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this place unless you are one of those people that simply can't be pleased. The location is unbeatable (right on the ocean), the staff is ALWAYS courteous, and the service is satisfying without being over the top. I have gotten massages and mani/pedis here and have no complaints. They treat you with coffee/tea/wine (yes, wine) and chocolates while you wait, and that is even before the real magic begins. If I didn't have 3 kids ages 2 and under, I'd be a member. I just received a gift certificate for my birthday and cannot wait to schedule an appointment. Ok if your in town and have no better option. Quality of massage is hit or miss depending on the masseuse as they change employees every month. Also never get a membership with them as they change their policies and services included on a whim and somehow the price stayed the same with less services. Then when we called to cancel the membership, which requires 30 days notice, they said no problem just fill out their cancellation form when we come in for our last massage but then we went in they told us there is a note in the system that we are cancelling but since it wasn't in writing we had to pay for another month. D'ames spa is such a great location in Imperial Beach. The view of the ocean from the spa is so beautiful. I get massages here monthly and am always very happy when I leave. Massage therapists have all been great and I love the epicurean products they use. One suggestion I have to optimize the experience is to book the treatment when restaurant and bar are not busy because sometimes I can hear the activity there during my treatment. read more

If you purchase their Groupon you are subjected to very poor customer service. They rarely answer their phone and direct you to book online. When I did book online, no one called to confirm until the day before. Once they found out I had a Groupon they declined my booking unless I paid full price. Such a scam. I got this for a friend and I for our birthdays, I reserved babysitters and took time to schedule all this, they don't care! they have the appointment available and reserved for me as long as I do not use the Groupon. I am so upset about this and the fact they ruined our birthdays. I will never go to this spa or hotel since it's linked to it and must have overall poor customer service to not see the point that this is wrong. They use the excuse they on Groupon it says you must talk to someone to book not book online (in very fine print). But then when you call multiple times and the voicemail says book online it all contradicts itself. What a disappointment. read more

Ok. First off. Lovely setting of hotel and spa. Access to pool and beachfront is great. Front desk and Technicians were polite. Note that the Spa is small and I gave 2 stars because I could hear EVERYTHING during my massage. Heard full conversations going on in front desk and noises coming from the other side of the wall. Which I was told by my therapist that they share a wall with the kitchen of the hotel resturant next door. That is in No Way a relaxaing environment. To top that off when I was done I still had the same crook in my right neck and shoulder that I came in with. Wasn't I suppose to come out feeling at least relaxed? I did not. Wish I can my money back but I purchased through groupon. Would have been great if it wasn't for the noise and if my tension was relieved. I advise to go elsewhere! read more

For my birthday this year, I treated myself to a Swedish massage at D'ames Spa. I arrived early, and Serah--who was working the front desk--offered me a glass of wine while I waited. I loved the ambience. I had a view of sand and sea, a swimming pool, chairs, tables, and umbrellas. Serah and I hit it off, chatting about mutual interests until my masseuse arrived. I was disappointed, overall. I was a guest at Pier South and booked my appointment online at 5:00 AM for a 10:15 massage later that day. A few hours later, I was emailed work that I needed to complete early Eastern time. I went to the spa at 9:00 AM to attempt to move my appointment to later in the day, only to find they didn't open until 10:00. I looked online to try to change my appointment time, but their website didn't allow it. I found they had several appointments open in the afternoon, so I didn't worry. I called at 10:05 and asked to move my appointment to the afternoon, but the person who answered refused & told me there was a 6-hour cancellation policy. I explained that I had recently looked online and there were several openings with their male therapist, but she claimed they had received many calls & the spots were no longer available. I asked how that could happen when they had only been open 5 minutes, she said she'd been there since 9:30. I asked if she answered the phone 30 minutes before they opened, but she didn't respond clearly. After being threatened with being charged full price if I didn't come, I went down for the massage. Unfortunately, things didn't get better. Elizabeth, my therapist, told me that the California massage I had scheduled would have light to medium pressure. I asked if she would use firmer pressure on my very sore neck & shoulders, she told me that I needed to walk back out to the front desk to change to a different massage, if I wanted more pressure. By this point, I was exasperated and just got on the table. I feel like I paid $160 just for someone to rub oil on my body for 80 minutes--no help for my sore neck. During the massage, the woman at the desk (I assume Christine) started laughing and talking so loudly on the phone about a personal matter that it drowned out the soft music in the treatment room. Thankfully, Elizabeth went to tell her to quiet down. When asked at checkout how my massage was, I responded rather despondently that it was just, "Ok." No further questions were asked, which I had come to expect because I had not witnessed much concern for my experience since booking. I tipped my therapist well, since I believed the problems were due to internal policies and a lack of customer service training, not my therapist's skill. I've been fortunate to frequent many high-end spas around the world; sadly, D'ames Spa is NOT what I've come to expect from a spa inside a top Marriott property! I believe they would benefit from extensive customer service training. read more

Hidden gem in IB! This spa is located inside the modern, Pier South Hotel. The spa is small but services were great! I had an 80 minute massage and left feeling wonderful. The owner is lovely and welcoming. My only complaint is that the check in desk is located right next to the treatment rooms. The noises and talking can be quite distracting. The owner advised that the check in desk will be moved out of the space so this issue should be resolved soon. After your treatment you can go to the hotel restaurant and have a drink with an ocean view. Overall, I had a great experience. read more
