I know my rating may be a shock compared to everything else you will see/ read. I still think that this center is a decent place to go to but my experience was heart breaking and unbearable. My boyfriend and I came as a fun outing to do during the pandemic. We were also considering getting private lesson here too. However, I had a bad experience with one of the staff members, Diane. She was one of the guides on our ride. I am a Hispanic woman and my boyfriend is a Caucasian male. Diane felt it was appropriate to ask me if I spoke any English because I was quite while she was instructing me on how to get my horse to move. I immediately answered her question in clear English and said, "Yes, I speak English", after I responded she proceeded to ask my boyfriend to translate to me that I needed to kick my horse harder. Throughout the ride she would make inappropriate comments about me needing to work on my thigh muscles and that I wasn't brave enough to ride horses. Once we finished our ride she made a comment about how the staff pretends to sanitize the helmets after the ride. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with my experience here because we read such great reviews of this place. I am also very concerned with the safety measures they are taking to prevent the spread of COVID19 infection. I know that Diane does not represent the whole business because there are some great staff members who we had the chance to meet like Rodrigo. read more

We took a 90 min ride with our 6 and 7 year olds. We were paired up with 2 more people and had 2 guides. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and I would definitely to it again. Booking online was easy. The ONLY thing I didn't love and wish they had made more clear was the helmet situation. They have helmets for you, but they are just bog standard bike helmets...and they are, shall we say, well loved. Had I known I would have just brought my own from home and it would have been better. They do say when you book that you can bring your own helmet, so maybe I just didn't read close enough, but I think it could have been more clear. The grounds of this true working stable are welcoming and calm. The staff are friendly and helpful. The horses are well trained and calm. We really bonded with their individual personalities! I wish I could give this place two reviews. One review on the actual trails and horses and another on my safety concerns.... So Cypress Trails gets solid 2 1/2 stars. Alas, Yelp won't let me do that so three stars it is. I will start with the cons so that we will end on a high note. Let me begin by saying safety is HUGE and a must when running a business with animals. I read reviews from the owner that the staff is well trained and yada, yada, okay - but to what standards? If your clients don't feel safe and your not practicing safety?!?!?!.. 1) We scheduled an hour and a half ride which started 30 minutes after our scheduled time. I have no idea what the holdup was and no one said a word to us. We were told to get there 30 minutes earlier than our scheduled time which we did, so we waited an hour. 2) Some of the staff seemed way too young and inexperienced to be working here. I owned horses when I was young and have gone on rides in my adult years. I will not say I am an experienced rider however I am not a novice. When you're riding an animal that you're not familiar with it is always important to have experienced/well trained staff with you. We had two 'wranglers' along with the ride, one was very experienced and another that was just way too young and awful ...which I will go into further detail about both. There was a group with with us which had elementary ages school girls. One girl was clearly nervous and her horse could sense it. The horse would not do as she asked and was a bit skittish. The elementary aged girl Rode in back of the line with one of the wranglers so that she could be watched (which at first I thought was a very good idea). About 30 minutes into our ride we stopped and the back wrangler was no where in sight. I asked the last girl where she was and the girl replied, "I don't know, she is on her phone." I was completely shocked! The experienced wrangler in the front called and whistled for her. She finally popped up from behind the trail with earbuds on and a childish smirk on her face as if she had done nothing wrong and was being cute. I thought 'how unprofessional' and clearly safety was not the first priority on this ride!! I told the school girl to come closer to the front of the line because if this staff member was not going to keep an eye on her then I would. The grandmother of the girl asked if she could come closer to the front too. The young staff member proceeded to ride with her earbuds on. Let me say that is not best practice in safety! I don't care if she was waiting for an emergency phone call, you have 10 people's lives in your hands while riding wild animals which can be unpredictable. You take the earbuds off and put your cell phone down for the next hour! 4) Half way through the ride one guide proceeded to be in front while the other rode in the middle of the group. Again, SO NOT SAFE! There should always be an experienced rider in the front and the back with such a large group (if you have two staff members riding along). 3) At the end of the ride other workers came out and had us hold the horses as they were unsaddling them and taking their bits out and such, which in hindsight was pretty cool, however as I mentioned, horses can be unpredictable and I don't think it's safe to have untrained folks like us handle horses while this is being done. I even mentioned to the girl who was taking the bit out of my horses' mouth that I felt like I was too close to the horse in front of me and that the horse kicked my horse during the ride and she didn't even acknowledge anything I said. I was just stuck standing there holding my horse. So weird. Pros: 1)Awesome riding trail for being on the outskirts of Houston! 2) One of the wranglers with us was fantastic! He taught us basic riding skills, which was really neat! He really took his time explaining how to guide and ride the horses. He knows his stuff! He was friendly, funny, knowledgeable, fun and you can tell he loves his job! Oh and he even took pictures for us! I believe he has been with the company a year or so. 3) The property is pretty cool. You can have birthday parties here, events, and they even let you just hang out for a bit after the ride and take pictures and what not. It's a nice, relaxing spot. 4) Beautiful horses. I even got to pick the horse I wanted to ride! *So my take, neat experience. I definitely would NOT take a small child here with such a young and childish staff and weirdness going on here. In my opinion the staff should be much older and much more trained. I have felt 100% safer on guided rides overseas or in other countries as crazy as that sounds! I may go back one day but only if I hear safety guidelines have changed or if I haven't found another riding facility in Houston. PS, I'm not naming names because I don't want to put the staff on blast, I just feel like the owner needs a nice long safety talk with her staff and should put some actions read more

Would of been a better ride if I didn't fall off the horse I was on. Luckily, I was not hurt. With the basic riding commands they offer at beginning of ride they should add a review of horse body language. A couple horses were acting up during the hour and a half I was there. Today we are getting married!! My soon-to-be husband has surprised me with a horse ride this morning before we go tie the knot! It's my first time riding a horse and it's also one of the items on my bucket list. The weather was perfect! I absolutely LOVED every minute of it. I was freaking out when I got there. I was kinda scared since the horses were much bigger than me. And I know nothing about horses. I just know they are beautiful big animals. We went to check-in, signed waivers, and picked out our helmets. You can also use a fanny pack to put your things in. Bathrooms are porta-potty outside if you need to go. The staff were a bit busier than normal because they are racing a horse tomorrow. Munchie is his name! Gorgeous brown horse! I hope he does well in the race tomorrow!! Good luck Munchie!! Lots of love!! We were the first appointment. So it was just going to be the 3 of us including the guide. Which was really nice. Our guide's name was John. He was quiet and didn't talk much on the trails. My horse's name was Ransom he was white and light brown spots almost like freckles. He was vocal and liked to poop alot. Horses are so soft than what I originally thought. I could pet them all day! Never would have thought I was gonna ride a white horse! The staff guided me on the horse and I got on the first try. I was super excited! My husband's horse name was Kid Star. He was brown and had a white spot on his forehead. He was well behaved. We learned how to stop, turn left, turn right, make they go, and what to do in a downhill and uphill situations. My horse had a mind of his own and did what he wanted mainly because I couldn't take control. It's my fault and I knew it. I was being too nice to the horse. I couldn't help it. I was experiencing alot of emotions at the same time. We started our trail and 3 dogs tagged along with us. I was finally riding a horse! A HORSE!! I couldn't contain my excitement! I was giggling all over the place. Once we returned back John taught us how to get off the horse. My horse again did what he wanted. So he went straight for the water and ignored everything. I felt his personality matched mine. I had no problems with Ransom and would ride him again. Overall it's an amazing experience! We took pictures with some horses before we left. Everything was perfect! Much more than I expected! On our way home my husband-to-be realized he lost his wallet. Total panic! I call to tell them we lost a wallet on the trail. And 10 minutes later they called said they found it! We are very very lucky and beyond grateful! Seriously leave everything in the car! Don't bring anything on the trail! Thank you Cypress Trails for the unforgettable experience. And thank you for finding my husband-to-be's wallet!! You guys are the best! read more

I took my three kids ages 15, 10, and 8, this past weekend and we enjoyed it so much that they cannot wait to go back. Our guide Jacob did a really great job of guiding us. at one point my eight-year-old even fell off the horse when we went through a muddy patch but he quickly got to her and made her feel comfortable and got her back on the horse and for that I'm very grateful. Booked a last minute horse ride at 2pm for 4:30pm. Such an awesome experience at the ranch. Everyone was so helpful and excited to be riding. They took care of us really good and the prices are super affordable! It looked like they genuinely enjoyed and loved what they do. Process was super easy. It was like a 20 people group, I'm used to 10 people groups at other locations so it was kind of hard to have everyone pay attention during instruction time. But that just shows how well they are able to get everyone accommodated! Our ride time was 4:30pm, didn't start riding until 5:15pm. Helmets were required which they do provide, but other places have it as optional. The trail was pretty cool, not so much scenic but we are in Houston so there's that. Employees were veryyyyy knowledgeable and awesome and giving instructions. I can't wait to go back! They also provide Fanny packs for your belonging that hold water bottles! The horses were so sweet. Booking was easy and the website tells you everything you need to know as a first timer. Booked a two hour ride and it's more than enough time to learn and be comfortable being on a horse. They have several guides and many horses for everyone. Had a little delay yet the front desk allowed us to go around or come back after an hour which we didn't really mind since we wanted a later ride time due to the heat. My granddaughter and I went for a 2 hour private ride. Our guide, Diane, was fantastic! Towards the end of our ride, my back suddenly seized up and I was in terrible pain (this has never happened before). Diane got off her horse and helped me off of mine. I had to lie down to ease the pain and she called for a cart to come and take me back. She brought my granddaughter to me and stayed with me until an Uber got there to pick me up (I couldn't drive). My wife and I went to Cypress Trails yesterday and had a wonderful time. She is a very experienced rider and I am quite inexperienced, having only ridden Western style a few times before. Note to riders: they ride English, which is basically backward from Western style, so be prepared for a bit of confusion if you are unfamiliar with riding English. They put me on a slow steady horse, which I really appreciated. Since I'm an inexperienced rider, every time I ride I am always assigned a horse who is a stubborn slowpoke and likes to snack a lot which makes me laugh but also necessitates frequent correction every time they want a tasty treat! My wife was assigned a retired racehorse and she had no trouble at all controlling him since she has ridden hundreds of times English style, which annoyed me as I flailed about helplessly trying to figure out how to control a languid hungry horse when I barely knew how to ride and didn't understand English either! The weather was perfect. It was rainy so we avoided the beastly hot temperatures that so often plague Houston in June. And they also had several steps for short riders to use when mounting/dismounting which we really appreciated being barely 5' tall. But it was a great time. We are planning to return and recommend them to people looking for a fun outdoor activity, even if you aren't familiar with riding. read more
