Had an amazing time at Cypress Trail Ranch! I made a spontaneous reservation the day I landed in Houston and didn't regret it at all. Special shoutout to Melisa -- she was both hilarious and super educational! The staff was incredibly friendly and sweet, and the horses were gentle and patient (which I definitely needed since I was a little scared at first ). Everyone -- both the team and the animals -- made me feel completely at ease, and I was able to truly enjoy the ride. I'll definitely be back!

I had such a great time doing the adventure trail. Melissa was our leader and she was very patient and easygoing. Highly recommend for out of town visitors

What better place to mark the end of summer and the beginning of another Allstar month than an afternoon trail ride. I always wanted to come here but my kid was under 6 before Harvey so we didn't. I remember this place getting flooded hard during Harvey. And during the ride they'll show you a tree which was underwater 25" high. I kinda recall a lot of the horses dying and them trying to evacuate them. The flooding was so sudden and it surprised us as well with 6" of water overnight in my Kingwood house. The online booking system was easy to navigate. There is a fee or tax which was about $7 for the two of us on a 1 hour ride. It's nice that someone actually answers the phone if you call. She didn't sound like she was working at the ranch as I heard a baby in the background. Today being a Labor Day they were extra busy. In fact I tried booking online and was unable to get my first choice because it filled up literally right as I hit the pay button. In my opinion this is definitely one of the better run horse ranches in town. I've noticed that other places are run by folks who have a passion for horses but, although they may intend well, they just do not have either the business acumen or more often the discipline required to run a business. But this place has a better grip on customers. We booked a 1 hour ride which actually turned out to be the perfect amount of time for us because our bums started hurting around then. But if you're a die hard, you can get another half hour for only $15 more. And then another half hour on top or that for yet another $15. Helmets are required but you can wear them over a hat. They also have free new bandanas which is nice because I didn't see anyone tending to the helmets or cleaning them off after folks returned from their rides. The helmet rack is self service. And it was hot, sweaty and sticky out there. You can also borrow a fanny pack for free. There are a lot of choices there actually although some of the bags have holes so just double check them (some smelled like wet towel too). They're big enough to store your water bottle. There's a soda machine too for $1.75 It's a pretty big ranch with lots of horses and ranch hands to help out. Customers seemed to keep coming and going today yet the ranch had enough horses for everyone. They have all types of horses. One woman in my group was probably pushing the 240 lb weight limit and she got a big horse that had hooves like a Clydesdale. She was wearing open toe sandals (like tevas) too. Our guide was nice and literally gave this customer the socks off her own feet because she didn't want the customer to get scratched up rubbing against the trees and bushes in the forest. The guide just rode barefoot. They're not super strict on the shorts either as many folks including the guide was wearing them. I'd say the actual ride time is about 45 minutes on a 1 hour ride. 10-15 minutes of instruction and getting folks situated and sorted out with gear and on their horses before the ride. You'll see lots of beauty berries which have an odor used to make perfume. And even some wild bamboo too. If the guide asks the group to choose between the flat trail or going into the forest riding on uneven terrain that goes up/down definitely choose the latter. You get to go in the forest and along the river on an only slightly uneven trail. It's immensely more interesting than the flat trail part. And the actual up and down is so minimal you'd barely notice it. Our horses were so mild manner. They knew exactly where they were going without any need to guide them by the riders. At the end you get to give your horse water. But nobody's horse was thirsty. $5 gets you some horse food which I recommend if you enjoy more interaction. There are signs encouraging tipping for a good ride. But the guides didn't seem all pushy about it like some places.

We had a great time riding the trails! We had a quick intro on how to handle the horse and what to expect going into the trail. Our guide was friendly and made sure we were all comfortable and having fun. We were able to pet & give treats to the horses after which was nice. It's a great experience and I hope to visit again soon!

This was my first time riding a horse, and it was so much fun. I booked a spontaneous trip after coming across their website. I booked a 90-minute adventure ride, and I was the only one in the 90-minute group, so there was flexibility in what to see. For a small fee, you can also feed the horses. The staff and horses are very understanding that I had no experience with horses at all. It was great to be in nature. It is a very fun trip, both solo and if one goes with a group of people. I will definitely come back again. Shout-out to Erica for making the experience memorable.

The horse ride was phenomenal I will come again I give them and Leonardo a 10 Very professional and patient

Great experience and cool instructor Rorry. I took my kids and they enjoyed it also. Definitely will be returning

Ronnie D.

Went on a private trail ride 8/25 everything went smooth I had a lot of fun and the horses were really friendly and well trained they did a good job at walking us through how to conduct ourselves on a horse which was super important since I have zero experience with horses 10/10 experience I would definitely go back

I wish I could give this place two reviews. One review on the actual trails and horses and another on my safety concerns.... So Cypress Trails gets solid 2 1/2 stars. Alas, Yelp won't let me do that so three stars it is. I will start with the cons so that we will end on a high note. Let me begin by saying safety is HUGE and a must when running a business with animals. I read reviews from the owner that the staff is well trained and yada, yada, okay - but to what standards? If your clients don't feel safe and your not practicing safety?!?!?!.. 1) We scheduled an hour and a half ride which started 30 minutes after our scheduled time. I have no idea what the holdup was and no one said a word to us. We were told to get there 30 minutes earlier than our scheduled time which we did, so we waited an hour. 2) Some of the staff seemed way too young and inexperienced to be working here. I owned horses when I was young and have gone on rides in my adult years. I will not say I am an experienced rider however I am not a novice. When you're riding an animal that you're not familiar with it is always important to have experienced/well trained staff with you. We had two 'wranglers' along with the ride, one was very experienced and another that was just way too young and awful ...which I will go into further detail about both. There was a group with with us which had elementary ages school girls. One girl was clearly nervous and her horse could sense it. The horse would not do as she asked and was a bit skittish. The elementary aged girl Rode in back of the line with one of the wranglers so that she could be watched (which at first I thought was a very good idea). About 30 minutes into our ride we stopped and the back wrangler was no where in sight. I asked the last girl where she was and the girl replied, "I don't know, she is on her phone." I was completely shocked! The experienced wrangler in the front called and whistled for her. She finally popped up from behind the trail with earbuds on and a childish smirk on her face as if she had done nothing wrong and was being cute. I thought 'how unprofessional' and clearly safety was not the first priority on this ride!! I told the school girl to come closer to the front of the line because if this staff member was not going to keep an eye on her then I would. The grandmother of the girl asked if she could come closer to the front too. The young staff member proceeded to ride with her earbuds on. Let me say that is not best practice in safety! I don't care if she was waiting for an emergency phone call, you have 10 people's lives in your hands while riding wild animals which can be unpredictable. You take the earbuds off and put your cell phone down for the next hour! 4) Half way through the ride one guide proceeded to be in front while the other rode in the middle of the group. Again, SO NOT SAFE! There should always be an experienced rider in the front and the back with such a large group (if you have two staff members riding along). 3) At the end of the ride other workers came out and had us hold the horses as they were unsaddling them and taking their bits out and such, which in hindsight was pretty cool, however as I mentioned, horses can be unpredictable and I don't think it's safe to have untrained folks like us handle horses while this is being done. I even mentioned to the girl who was taking the bit out of my horses' mouth that I felt like I was too close to the horse in front of me and that the horse kicked my horse during the ride and she didn't even acknowledge anything I said. I was just stuck standing there holding my horse. So weird. Pros: 1)Awesome riding trail for being on the outskirts of Houston! 2) One of the wranglers with us was fantastic! He taught us basic riding skills, which was really neat! He really took his time explaining how to guide and ride the horses. He knows his stuff! He was friendly, funny, knowledgeable, fun and you can tell he loves his job! Oh and he even took pictures for us! I believe he has been with the company a year or so. 3) The property is pretty cool. You can have birthday parties here, events, and they even let you just hang out for a bit after the ride and take pictures and what not. It's a nice, relaxing spot. 4) Beautiful horses. I even got to pick the horse I wanted to ride! *So my take, neat experience. I definitely would NOT take a small child here with such a young and childish staff and weirdness going on here. In my opinion the staff should be much older and much more trained. I have felt 100% safer on guided rides overseas or in other countries as crazy as that sounds! I may go back one day but only if I hear safety guidelines have changed or if I haven't found another riding facility in Houston. PS, I'm not naming names because I don't want to put the staff on blast, I just feel like the owner needs a nice long safety talk with her staff and should put some actions read more

I took my daughter and her friends to ride horses for her birthday and it was AMAZING! Upon arrival we met Julie who greeted us and gave us background about the horses, in her the girls made a new friend. Carlee and Ms.Warren were incredible guides and made us feel comfortable and made the girls feel special. After the ride we feed the horses and everyone there continued to make you feel part of the ranch. We will be back again soon. Excellent experience! My two children (tweens) loved it! And, our guide-Sam-was awesome! She was very nice, knowledgeable, and fun to be with. The staff was great, too! I have to give credit to the horses, too! They safely carried us through the woods along Spring Creek and were a joy to ride. My kids had zero experience with horses before, but are eager to go back! They loved the horses! We are talking about going back, maybe once a month to get better at riding, so we can take the horses on a gallup! I highly recommend this place! read more

My 15 year old daughter and I went riding today for the first time. we chose the 1.5 hour ride. It was an easy check in process, and everyone was super friendly. We got good instructions and our wranglers were very nice trying to get to know us and engage with us along the ride. We had a beautiful morning, perfect weather for riding. Since we were beginners we had the easy trail I suppose...all walking, so it was nice and relaxing. The horses knew just what to do with very little guidance needed. My only suggestion is I wish the wranglers or other staff would take a moment to offer to take our pictures. It was challenging to get pictures on horseback when you are a newbie! Also I had purchased water we never received and that would have been nice to have on the ride. I had to ask for my purchases, like carrots and t shirt. (skip the shirt and bring your own carrots!). Small things but overall a wonderful experience and we would love to do it again. read more

Simply an amazing experience. I originally Booked a pony ride for my 4 year old son. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by all the staff, volunteers and felt at home. I asked if my son was able to do the trail ride since my wife and I also wanted to ride. The staff wanted to see if my son know anything about horses and the moment they sat him on the saddle, they felt confortable him riding alone. (He has ride before and been around horses). Special thanks to DANIELLE on guided my son's horse and special thanks to LAUREN for being such a wonderful guide also. She's very talkative and loves what she does. She made it very special. The trails are great!!! We will be back. read more

I know my rating may be a shock compared to everything else you will see/ read. I still think that this center is a decent place to go to but my experience was heart breaking and unbearable. My boyfriend and I came as a fun outing to do during the pandemic. We were also considering getting private lesson here too. However, I had a bad experience with one of the staff members, Diane. She was one of the guides on our ride. I am a Hispanic woman and my boyfriend is a Caucasian male. Diane felt it was appropriate to ask me if I spoke any English because I was quite while she was instructing me on how to get my horse to move. I immediately answered her question in clear English and said, "Yes, I speak English", after I responded she proceeded to ask my boyfriend to translate to me that I needed to kick my horse harder. Throughout the ride she would make inappropriate comments about me needing to work on my thigh muscles and that I wasn't brave enough to ride horses. Once we finished our ride she made a comment about how the staff pretends to sanitize the helmets after the ride. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with my experience here because we read such great reviews of this place. I am also very concerned with the safety measures they are taking to prevent the spread of COVID19 infection. I know that Diane does not represent the whole business because there are some great staff members who we had the chance to meet like Rodrigo. read more

We took a 90 min ride with our 6 and 7 year olds. We were paired up with 2 more people and had 2 guides. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and I would definitely to it again. Booking online was easy. The ONLY thing I didn't love and wish they had made more clear was the helmet situation. They have helmets for you, but they are just bog standard bike helmets...and they are, shall we say, well loved. Had I known I would have just brought my own from home and it would have been better. They do say when you book that you can bring your own helmet, so maybe I just didn't read close enough, but I think it could have been more clear. "If you have your own bike helmet, just bring that!" read more

This place is awesome. We rented a horse to ride in our wedding and the staff were extremely nice, professional and patient. They made sure I felt comfortable with the horse since I had very little riding experience . I practiced several times prior to the wedding. The owner Darralyn , her employees Preston and Jacobie made sure everything went well. Would of been a better ride if I didn't fall off the horse I was on. Luckily, I was not hurt. With the basic riding commands they offer at beginning of ride they should add a review of horse body language. A couple horses were acting up during the hour and a half I was there. Will be back but probably a private ride versus group of inexperienced riders. read more

Today we are getting married!! My soon-to-be husband has surprised me with a horse ride this morning before we go tie the knot! It's my first time riding a horse and it's also one of the items on my bucket list. The weather was perfect! I absolutely LOVED every minute of it. I was freaking out when I got there. I was kinda scared since the horses were much bigger than me. And I know nothing about horses. I just know they are beautiful big animals. We went to check-in, signed waivers, and picked out our helmets. You can also use a fanny pack to put your things in. Bathrooms are porta-potty outside if you need to go. The staff were a bit busier than normal because they are racing a horse tomorrow. Munchie is his name! Gorgeous brown horse! I hope he does well in the race tomorrow!! Good luck Munchie!! Lots of love!! We were the first appointment. So it was just going to be the 3 of us including the guide. Which was really nice. Our guide's name was John. He was quiet and didn't talk much on the trails. My horse's name was Ransom he was white and light brown spots almost like freckles. He was vocal and liked to poop alot. Horses are so soft than what I originally thought. I could pet them all day! Never would have thought I was gonna ride a white horse! The staff guided me on the horse and I got on the first try. I was super excited! My husband's horse name was Kid Star. He was brown and had a white spot on his forehead. He was well behaved. We learned how to stop, turn left, turn right, make they go, and what to do in a downhill and uphill situations. My horse had a mind of his own and did what he wanted mainly because I couldn't take control. It's my fault and I knew it. I was being too nice to the horse. I couldn't help it. I was experiencing alot of emotions at the same time. We started our trail and 3 dogs tagged along with us. I was finally riding a horse! A HORSE!! I couldn't contain my excitement! I was giggling all over the place. Once we returned back John taught us how to get off the horse. My horse again did what he wanted. So he went straight for the water and ignored everything. I felt his personality matched mine. I had no problems with Ransom and would ride him again. Overall it's an amazing experience! We took pictures with some horses before we left. Everything was perfect! Much more than I expected! On our way home my husband-to-be realized he lost his wallet. Total panic! I call to tell them we lost a wallet on the trail. And 10 minutes later they called said they found it! We are very very lucky and beyond grateful! Seriously leave everything in the car! Don't bring anything on the trail! Thank you Cypress Trails for the unforgettable experience. And thank you for finding my husband-to-be's wallet!! You guys are the best! read more

My three year old started an obsession with horses a few months ago. We were looking for a place she could ride for longer then just a few minutes and where we could lead the horse, Cypress Trails checks all the boxes and more! My husband has taken her a couple times now and it is worth every penny to see the excitement on her face in the mornings she knows she will be going to ride a horse. one hour trail-ride the first visit to this place was awesome however I took a friend for her birthday the second time ( was her first time) and it was a disaster!! first of all the beginners 10 mins training only instructed how to turn your horse right and left. (different from the first time I was there) we were all so spread a part the person guiding was always way up front. the trail was very risky for inexperienced riders we were riding at the edge of a scary ditch where my friends horse leg went over the edge of the ditch causing her to fall off hanging on. it was so scary to imagine if she didn't hold on tight enough there is no way she would survive the fall. this review is really meant for this place to take their trails serious for beginners. Also maybe have all your employees give the same 10 minute lesson and stay closer to beginners. we are too traumatized to even get on a horse again. Responding to your comment: I rode with you guys shortly after that hurricane and had a safer experience with a group of 6 friends. Also Era is very much hurt bruised legs and traumatized! The path could've been chosen according to the experience level like the path we rode right after that hurricane. Like I said this review is meant for yall to take extra precautions going out with inexperienced riders!! read more

History

Established in 1974.

Cypress Trails was first a private horse farm. The owner, Darolyn Butler, started providing endurance riding clinics and taking in boarders over the years. In 1998, after selling her video production business, she started a trail riding business where she offered not only lessons but also trail rides, lunch rides, and team building events. Darolyn is an avid competitor in the sport of endurance riding, and she has ridden over 38,000 miles of competition and holds the world record in races of 100 miles in a day. If you desire to get into the intense sport of endurance or just want a relaxing horseback ride, Cypress Trails Equestrian Center is the place to go.

Meet the Business Owner: Darolyn B.

Since then, she has won 5 more national championships, accrued over 38,000 miles of competition, and competed in FEI International events in the USA and around the world. I was recommended to try horseback riding to help with my anxiety which has gotten pretty bad lately. So, taking that advice as a "Why not, it can't hurt." I googled for a place nearby and discovered Cypress Trails. I ended up booking a 1.5 hour ride for that day, and was looking forward to it. But as my anxiety usually does, as it got closer to the time I'd need to leave to get there on time I could feel my panic attack coming on and being worried about driving the forty minutes out there. I called, I tried to cancel explaining (embarrassingly) why at the same time. The woman on the phone not only sympathized, but said that she would alert the instructor about my situation and said that when I did arrive, they would know I may take a little extra time to mount and so on. She also let me know there would only be two other people with me. It honestly helped get me in a more positive mindset that it would be fun. When I got there, EVERYONE was nice. There were hundreds of horses, and tons of dogs that welcomed me onto the property. I checked in, and the young man at the desk was very patient and was one on one with me getting on the back of the horse and guiding me through the basics. I was relieved to see that they had taken my height (or lack there of) into consideration and was given a beautiful Arabian horse that was on the smaller side. I know the guy could tell I was nervous, but it was less about the horse (named Dancer) and more my drive over. I rode a bit when I was younger but it had been awhile since then and I definitely was super awkward for awhile with the reigns. However, the moment we got out into the woods and on the trail, I started to feel better. My guide, and gosh I wish I could remember her name, was wonderful and engaging. She let me know that it was possible to actually "rent" out a horse to ride solo once you knew the trails well enough. It wasn't long before I began to feel more comfortable riding and was able to sit back comfortably and enjoy the view. Being out there, even though I've lived in Houston all my life, and just being around nature and animals helped tremendously. The bonus was the humans running the joint being just as equally friendly. After the ride I was allowed to dismount and lead Dancer to some water, where we had a few minutes together where she let me pet her and nudged her head into me gently a few times. So whether you're in town looking for something to do; or like me, struggling with anxiety and depression and you like animals (especially horses) GO. Spend the money, enjoy your time out, it WILL BE WORTH IT! It is definitely something I plan to make a habit of now. read more

This past weekend we went riding for my friends 31st birthday and there was a large group of us. At first I got a horse that I was not comfortable with because she kept hitting my leg and kicking the ground. She also didn't allow the wrangler to put the metal thing in her mouth and was pushing him away. I immediately knew that my horse was different because all the other horses were waiting there patiently except mine. I asked to be taken down to another horse that was a bit more calm and the wrangler just left me there. Finally, some nice lady came and got me off that horse and onto another one. Another one of the wranglers Toby I believe was his name decided to be rude and say "wow you want to get ponied? Never heard of that before" this was my first time riding and he was just plain rude. Anyways, we started the trail and the little girl who was about 12 who was ponying me was so sweet and kept checking on me to see if I was doing ok. The whole ride was nice and relaxing..... BUT then that wrangler Toby decided that he wanted to show off with his horse and started making the horse do all these turns that eventually the horse threw him off. He kept acting like he didn't get thrown off and that he jumped but by the way he was walking and looked scared we knew he had been thrown off. He also broke the rains which was caused by him being thrown off not him jumping off. So then his horse got loose and ended up hitting one of our riders horse in the behind and so then that horse threw off our rider. The wranglers did not check to see if he was ok they did not even ask they just kept going and the wrangler who was trying to catch his runaway horse was smoking like if he was unbothered by the situation. We were all first time riders and they were just plain rude!! The little girl was the only one with manners and who actually checked on us to see if we were doing ok. ALL the ladies there were extremely sweet and helpful unfortunately both wranglers that we had that day were just plain awful. I do not recommend this place to anyone just from my experience. read more

Yesterday, my wife and I visited Cypress Trails and had a delightful experience. My wife is an experienced rider, while I am still a novice, having only ridden Western style a few times. A word of advice: they ride English style, which is essentially the opposite of Western style, so be prepared for some initial confusion if you're unfamiliar with English riding. They assigned me a horse that moved at a steady pace, which I was grateful for. As a novice rider, I'm always paired with a horse that's a bit stubborn and enjoys eating a lot, which amuses me but also requires constant correction whenever they spot a tasty treat! My wife, on the other hand, was given a retired racehorse, and she had no issues controlling him, given her extensive experience with English style riding. This was somewhat frustrating for me, as I was floundering, trying to control a lethargic horse while still learning the basics of riding and English style riding. The weather was ideal. The rainy conditions meant we were spared from the scorching temperatures that are common in Houston in June. They also had steps for shorter riders like us, which we found very helpful. We are both under 5' tall, so these steps were a godsend when it came to mounting and dismounting. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. We plan to return and would recommend Cypress Trails to anyone looking for an enjoyable outdoor activity, regardless of their experience with horse riding. read more

Oh my goodness! This was the absolute best experience. I was so nervous. I wanted something to do with my six year old and 22 year old. None of us had any experience on a horse and when I called and expressed my concerns - she immediately made me laugh and put my fears at ease. My six year old son did fabulous on a horse named "Aloof" - request him if you have a little one. Best horse ever. Our guides were talkative young and funny. The roses are well trained - even though some little to take little nibbles here and there! But the best part was that I am a Type 1 diabetic and before the trip I was feeling really badly even though I had eaten. I checked my blood sugar and it was 53. I didn't have any cash or anything to drink or eat and everyone was on their horses. They were so awesome and understanding and immediately got me a coke and told me to take all the time I needed . They cared about my safety than their timeframe. I was so impressed and my kids had a fabulous experience! I highly recommend them!!! read more

I have lived in this area for the last few years and I have always passed by this place. I was a little reluctant on letting my 5 year old ride due to inexperience and her being fidgety and scary but she had an amazing time. Jude was our trail boss and he did an excellent job of providing clear and concise block of instructions for my girls to understand and know what to do with the horses. I was blessed to be able to have him as our lead. He kept us at a nice comfortable pace so that my girls were not nervous about the ride and we enjoyed the trail. We finished our tour of the trail and sent another appointment immediately for the following weekend. I can't explain the horror I felt as watched their horses struggle for their lives. I know what a flash flood is. The news reported for several day that we were in for heavy rain. You can't keep using the excuse that it happened so fast. You had days to prepare! If you know you are in a flood zone, you should have an evacuation plan. Even with so many horses! If you are going to run a business with them, they should have a way to transport them in the case of a natural disaster. Especially since this has happened before. You should know better. Shame on you! It will be long time before I will be able to stop picturing those poor animals. I adore horses, much more than the average person. I, unfortunately, can not afford them. But if I could I would have plans in place! You will never get any business from me and I will make sure that everyone I know will know of your negligence. read more

Had a great time at Cypress Trails Horseback Riding recently. They have plenty of beautiful, well-cared-for horses to ride. The staff was very helpful and engaging -- they made us feel comfortable, gave clear instructions, and were genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge. The trail ride itself wound through some nicely wooded areas, which provided shade during the Texas heat. It was peaceful, scenic, and a perfect pace for enjoying the outdoors without getting overheated. One of the best things about Cypress Trails is their summer classes and programs for young riders. It's awesome that they offer opportunities for kids to learn more about horses, riding, and care -- a great way to build skills and confidence in a fun, supportive environment. If you're in the Houston area and looking for a family-friendly horseback adventure, I definitely recommend Cypress Trails. read more

Updating my previous rating (which was already 5 stars) because I've seen deer in the woods on both my rides this weekend. The deer are so close to you on the trail and they stop to look at you while you look at them. I think I've ridden here now six times in just over a month. Seeing deer that close just fills my heart with joy. Also, fyi that they have upgraded to actual restrooms with cold AC. I saw some older reviews complaining about porta-pottys. Those are long gone. So no more sweating when you have to go. I do recommend that everyone plan wearing long pants. There are typical usual Houston pests like mosquitoes, flies, and ticks. But there is also poison ivy and poison oak, and you don't want that touching your bare legs while riding. Just say no to riding in shorts, skorts, Daisy Dukes, etc. (no matter how great you look in them) read more

I came here to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday and her love for horses! I was extremely terrified to do the trail ride with her but I did it for her, because she's my heart! I was nervous when the instructions were being given at first but Mark made sure that he talked me through everything and halfway through that ride I became way more comfortable! On top of that, he and the entire trail ride party sang happy birthday to my daughter while on horseback and took pictures of very memorable moments! Afterwards, we fed the horses carrots and we left with goodies to remember our visit! That smile on her face, was priceless! As nervous as I was at first, I can proudly say that I would definitely come back and do it all again! You won't be disappointed with the service and knowledge that everyone provides to you here! It was awesome! Thanks read more

Everyone at this horseback riding place was extremely nice from the time I walked in and out. Jude was our guide and the craziest part is my girlfriend just wanted someone like us .. fun outgoing funny down to earth etc.. and Jude was all those things .. If we were having a conversation about something, it's like he can latch on to any of them with no problem. The ride was never boring. But to put the cherry on the sundae, I lost my phone and wallet in the middle of the ride and Jude told me he would go back and look for it.. He changed horses when we were done and raced back into those woods and rode up and down those trails for 30 minutes looking for my phone and wallet ..... I thanked Jude as he galloped back in with a huge smile on his face! Thanks Cypresswood trails for this experience! We'll be back with more ! read more

I flown in from Singapore yesterday and intentionally stopped by Houston to go horse riding with Cypress Trails. I booked a walk-trot-canter 3-hour ride, and was supposed to get there by 9.30am this morning. I overslept and called Cypress Trails. It was already 10.15am and I was still in Houston!! They knew that I was flying in from Singapore and came all the way just to ride with them that they found me a wrangler at 11.30am and we did the walk-trot-canter 3-hour ride. I really appreciated Cypress Trails making this happened. They were really busy today with so many riders and it was easy to turn me down since I was 2 hours late!! But they didn't, and I am glad that I stopped by Houston, and will leave Houston tomorrow with some great memories!! read more

My name is Oscar and I came with my girlfriend to this place for an hour long adventure. While the horse riding experience itself was nice, the guide, who looks like a young white lady, was not very friendly. She addressed me as simply "hey guy", which I did not mind too much. But when my girlfriend dismounted and was walking away, she shouted at her "Hey! Hey!". Couldn't she address her as "maam" with some descent human respect? It bogged me because we were the only the only Asians and she was being specifically rude to us, and then laughing it off like it was a joke. Please, please inform your staff that they would treat all customers respectfully, regardless of their race. P.S. That guide was in the picture leading all the way in the front read more

There are longer rides as well if you're looking to ride for more than an hour at additional cost, but really the price for all the rides is good. They have a ton of horses and you can even feed the horses for an extra $2! Our tour guide was super nice and she was a great instructor with how to handle the horses! I would definitely go back again and would recommend the ranch to anyone looking to take a ride! read more

I went with three friends on a 1.5 hr trail ride. From the moment I got there, I knew this was going to be a positive experience. The dogs on the property were calm (not high strung, like other places I've been), the horses were calm, clean, and well taken care of. We got there a half hour early and were able to saddle up and take some time to get to know our horses. As everyone in our group was on time, we were able to hit the trail exactly when scheduled. Our guide was Brian, and he was exceptionally helpful, engaging, attentive, and instructive. After we returned, a helper came and snapped a bunch of photos for us. I couldn't be happier with our experience. I plan on going back. read more

I Always book a trail ride at Cypress Trails for a peaceful escape in nature and yesterday was special because my 8 year old neurodivergent son wanted to join me for his first ride. Matt was our guide and i can honestly say that it wouldn't have been possible without his help. He was EXTREMELY patient with my son and stayed with him the entire time to ensure his safety and made him feel comfortable by talking to him and working with him through his stemming episodes the duration of the ride. Thank you so much Matt for being a part of a huge core moment for my son (his feather is safe) and thank you Cypress Trails Ranch for another beautiful trail ride! read more

Was here about a year ago, saw a Groupon and reminded me of my experience here. Absolutely horrible! A young lady named olive checked us in. She was smoking the ENTIRE TIME right in my daughters face on her E-cigarette. I talked to a older lady staff member with glasses and she said it was normal and said olive does it 'on trail' too it's outside so it doesn't matter. AND LAUGHED ABOUT IT. I was so upset and asked where the manager was, and I was pointed to Olive! Such a inconsiderate rude and b*tchy girl should not be in charge. Stay away from here unless you want you're children to get second hand smoke poisoning. ZERO STARS. read more

Me and my GF went to Cypress Trails for the first time and had a great time. The staff was prompt and very nice. Our guide was an excellent teacher, although I knew how to ride already, my GF was a novice. She was terrified in the beginning because the horse walked off and started grazing and she couldn't control him. The guide and I encourage her to take control and once she did it was all uphill for her. She settled in on her horse and enjoyed the ride which was 1.5 hrs. I would recommend anyone to this stable and I'm most definitely going again soon. Thanks Cypress Trails read more

This woman is repeatedly abusive and negligent with her horses. Time and time again she has left the horses tied up in rising flood waters allowing them to drown and then replacing them with more horses she probably buys at cheap auction prices. Watch the videos on You Tube of her horses drowning while tied out. Please don't support a business whose owner is so cruel and heartless! She probably writes off the lives of the horses on her insurance as a business loss. Disgusting. This is the third time she left her horses tied up to die in flood waters. read more

We had a great time on our 1 hour ride. We took our daughter and grandsons from Michigan for their first riding experience. We were worried that our 6 year-old grandson would be scared and back out. But the staff took their time and got him on the horse and stayed with him until the ride started. He loved it! Our guide, Matt, was awesome. He had our 6 year-old follow him and they talked the entire time! (our grandson did most of the talking!) He can't wait to go back! Will take our other grandkids from Kentucky there this summer! read more

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking -- a crisp, snow-covered trail winding through tall pine trees under a brilliant blue sky with perfect fluffy clouds. The weather was ideal: sunny, calm, and just cold enough to make it feel like a true winter escape without being uncomfortable. Huge shoutout to our incredibly patient and helpful tour guide who made the entire experience smooth, safe, and enjoyable for everyone (especially first-timers). Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The horses are well trained and follow each other since they already know the trail, but they still respond to commands like go and stop, and you can steer them left or right if you want. That made us feel comfortable even as first-time riders. The only area I think could be improved is having a small practice area for brand-new riders to learn the basics before heading out on the trail. Other than that, everything was amazing. The ride was about an hour long and very enjoyable. We will definitely be coming back!

Inside there were lots of windows that allowed for a nice breeze and great views of the climber's. The staff were friendly, patient and knowledgeable. There were 10+ children and in our group and I was impressed by how organized the process was. After checking in and signing waivers, we headed to the treehouse to see the birthday girl. After most of the party had arrived, the kids first lined up for harnesses, followed by the adults accompanying their children on the course. We then headed to down a set of stairs for the safety briefing and to learn how to maneuver the course. I was surprised how quickly the children grasped the concepts. Once everyone passed the evaluation, we headed back upstairs to line up to enter the course. It was much higher and challenging than I expected. I'm not terribly afraid of heights but to transition to and from each obstacle took a tremendous amount of core and upper body strength. It was so cute seeing the kids clip on and move freely. This was a very fun day and I look forward to returning for a night event as we enter the hotter months in Texas.

Still, I faced my fears and had an unbelievably amazing time! I did a tandem ride with a friend, and steering for 10 minutes made me feel so empowered. The company was awesome, the driver instructor was patient, and the trail? Absolutely wild. It seemed endless--every time you thought it was over, another section appeared! The hour-long ride was incredible, but honestly, I could've gone for two or three more. The trail had everything: puddles to splash through, loops to navigate, and even a stunning ride around a lake. Just a heads-up: you'll get super dirty. The drivers wore rain boots--brilliant idea--and I highly recommend wearing shoes and clothes you're okay with trashing. You can buy gear like masks at check-in, but it's way cheaper to bring your own. Trust me, leave your worries in the car, embrace the mud, and just have fun!
