My wife and I went to Cypress Trails yesterday and had a wonderful time. She is a very experienced rider and I am quite inexperienced, having only ridden Western style a few times before. Note to riders: they ride English, which is basically backward from Western style, so be prepared for a bit of confusion if you are unfamiliar with riding English. They put me on a slow steady horse, which I really appreciated. Since I'm an inexperienced rider, every time I ride I am always assigned a horse who is a stubborn slowpoke and likes to snack a lot which makes me laugh but also necessitates frequent correction every time they want a tasty treat! My wife was assigned a retired racehorse and she had no trouble at all controlling him since she has ridden hundreds of times English style, which annoyed me as I flailed about helplessly trying to figure out how to control a languid hungry horse when I barely knew how to ride and didn't understand English either! The weather was perfect. It was rainy so we avoided the beastly hot temperatures that so often plague Houston in June. And they also had several steps for short riders to use when mounting/dismounting which we really appreciated being barely 5' tall. But it was a great time. We are planning to return and recommend them to people looking for a fun outdoor activity, even if you aren't familiar with riding. read more

The Cypress Trails team did a fantastic job of matching us with perfectly suited horses for our size and skill level. Had a great and relaxing ride! The Anglers were very knowledgeable and helped teach the riders of all ages in our group how to guide the horses, including dismounting. The center also provides Fanny packs to store your bottled water and small items like car keys in free of charge, as well as the riding helmets. This was such a pleasant experience. We came home from Washington for vacation and my daughter wanted to do horseback riding. I found this place and it was so easy to book exactly what we needed on their website (love that they accommodated our 3.5 and 6.5 year old on horseback). We did 30-min pony rides. Fantastic place to go on a trail ride! The trails were so pretty and relaxing. We took my nieces for their 10th birthday they love horses and literally did not want to leave! Very good experience from beginning to end. Highly recommend. We called the day prior to wanting to do a trail ride and the lady answering the phone and taking our reservation was extremely nice and helpful. The trail itself was very nice through the woods. The lady who took us for a ride (I think her name was Lauren?) was also excellent and really cared about everyone's safety. At the end she even volunteered to use our phone and take our pictures on the horses. The horses themselves were very well behaved and beautiful horses. The girls and I came here for #SundayFunday and had a blast! This is my 2nd time coming here and I loved it so much I had to bring friends back. We purchased the Groupon and made reservations about 4 days in advance. Upon arrival, you check in and sign a few agreement forms. You then pick a helmet (safety first!) and wait until you're assigned a horse. They also provide a complimentary bottle of water and a waist pouch to hold the water, car keys or other small items. For those inexperienced riders, no worries- the staff superb! They provide step by step instructions and assist in any way possible. We did the 1.5 hour ride through the trail. They do a brief 15-minute demonstration with the horse so you'll know what techniques to use whether going up a small hill, crossing a log or going down a ramp. I must admit. It was HOT! The temperature was about 104 but once you start going through the trail majority of the area is shaded and you'll definitely cool off. From beginning to end all the staff were nice, helpful and I can't wait to return again. The horses were also very fun and well-mannered. Our visit here was a while ago: late summer/early fall 2018. We went there with a group of four inexperienced people and were able to conveniently book over the phone. The place is not easy to find by just using the GPS, so important to listen to their travel advise. Everything needed is being provided by the ranch, so all you need to bring is yourself and a credit card lol. Our little group had an instructor for ourselves, after a quick introduction and with a lil help all of us were sitting on a back of a horse. We performed a lil round trip and we also had the pleasure to increase the speed a bit. It was a wonderful experience as the horses all have the impression they're treated well and the staff was helpful and seems to like their job! I am not an experienced rider, and actually this was my first horse ride ever; therefore I have no knowledge as to regulations and how these animals should and shouldn't be trained/ fed ect. With that being said, both my boyfriend and I had a great first experience. The wranglers gave us a quick lecture before the 1 1/2 trail ride and I felt pretty safe as our group rode with about 4 to 5 wranglers. My horse seemed to be very well trained and I had no problem during my horseback ride. We had a few young riders during our ride and the wranglers made sure they stayed close to them and monitored them. The staff has very good communication and service. For my gf's 25th birthday I wanted to do something special for her. She had been saying for a long time that she loves horses and recently, while at the renaissance festival I realized that she REALLY loves horses. So I figured the best gift would be to go horseback riding. Plus this gave me a perfect opportunity to experience it for myself. While being in Texas, I have never been on a horse. So I went straight to google for a place that would allow it. Then I cross referenced it via yelp and came up with Cypress Trails & Stables. I opted for their lunch ride which was about 4 hrs including the ride out to the restaurant, lunch, and a ride back. After paying and picking out a helmet were were on our way. They place you up onto horses almost immediately. I was lucky I got a giant horse, that supports up to 300 lbs so he was getting a break today with me. My gf also got a big horse so we were both lucky... I was really scared at first so my horse took control of me leading and going wherever, but by the end I was in control with mastering the ropes. It was a blast! My gf on the other hand never got control of her horse and it dragged her all over the place. She still had fun. Honestly, the lunch ride is a bit too long, since this is a "butt to butt" type of ride, meaning the horses are in a line and you can't just ride off on your own, which is probably good for beginngers. They did have a spot along the ride where its an open field and you can go between two paths and ride almost at will. Overall, they give you good tips for beginners and it was fun experience. Now I can say I live in Texas and I HAVE been on a horse. read more

When you get there arrive a little bit early because there is limited parking and they Give you a quick riding lesson before starting the trail ride. Although it was fun the horse that they had gave me had a bit of a attitude he tried kicking another horse and did not want to follow through with some commands but with Behavior corrections I was told to do he straightened up. Tucked away behind Bush Airport, I would have never expected this place to be here. I figured I would do something nice for the ole' Ball and Chain so I decided to surprise her with a horse back riding session at Cypress Trails. I had never been here before but a friend referred me to their Groupon promotion (1.5 hour trail ride for two people for $70). Figured it was not a bad deal and to try this place out. In case you were wondering: the 1.5 ride entails a quick 5 minute lesson on riding, that's all you need! Then you hit the trails for a little bit where the guide stops you again in order to teach you to properly guide your horse over large steps in case there are some on the trail. The rest of the time you spend on the trail which is not exactly flat, so there is some great terrain to go up hill and down hill on a horse. At some point thet also stop in the middle of the forest so the guide takes pictures for you on your phone! That was very nice. Long Story Short: It is what you would expect! The thing that makes this place great is the staff that works there is super friendly! Even on the phone I could tell they were going to be very nice/helpful when we got there. It was very seamless and a great place to check out if you want to save a cowboy and ride a horse instead. Shop Notes: I think this is actually someone's ranch and they live on the top floor and the office is on the bottom - I couldn't tell exactly. Cypress Trails is right next to a Harris county forest preserve and Cypress Creek. Its a horse ranch so I wouldn't wear anything that I don't want getting dirty - horse back riding isn't really a clean activity. Sentence Summary: I scored some major boyfriend points, the service was great, the horses were beautiful... I was a happy camper. read more

We took our kids to Cypress Trails for my daughter's birthday. Our guide, Dianne, did a great job with my kids (8, 11, 14) as it was their first time on a trail ride. She also made my daughter feel special for her birthday and initiating singing happy birthday to her. Dianne took us to a practice area first so my kids could practice which was smart. She also took video and pictures for us. All of the horses that my kids rode were pretty chill. They were typical trail horses in that they almost do it for you except that they like to stop and snack on plants. The trail we took wasn't really scenic, but it was shaded. My horse on the other hand was like a big puppy and I had to keep the reins tight the entire ride because he wouldn't back off from the horse in front of him (although he didn't want to lead and would stop when he was first). So it was tiring to ride a horse like that and I didn't feel as relaxed as I have on other trail rides (and I've been on dozens). Also, my stirrups were uncomfortable because they were forcing my toes inward. Keep in mind that they prefer that you hold the reins up with both hands rather than a one hand hold. As far as amenities, they have a nice area to wait outdoors. We purchased a pony ride for my youngest and his dad led him around their grounds. The staff was friendly. The kids enjoyed feeding carrots we brought to their horses. Overall, it was a great experience and we would definitely go back. read more

Bought a Groupon for a 1.5-hour trail ride last night and then booked for this morning. They were super quick to get back to me and we were able to make a reservation for the afternoon no problem, even on short notice. I have riding experience but my friend who went with me did not, and we both had an incredible, comfortable ride. They give you a little instruction on basic horse riding (kick to go, how to turn, etc.) but to be honest, for the trail rides it's not wholly necessary that you have experience implementing these... the horses will generally just follow each other. It allows you just to enjoy the walk through the woods and the gait of the horse. My horse was Wizard (I LOVED him. He was so well behaved.) And my friend's horse was Gator (also super lovely and well behaved). I haven't ridden in a long time and this experience makes me want to pick it up again. The only thing that would have made this better is I wish I was able to canter in the field, but our group was also very beginner. I actually locked my keys inside of my car (hehe) so my friend and I were stuck there for a while until we received the spare... but it was not a bad place at all to be stuck. Lots of playful dogs running around and you can pet the horses by the fences. The property is very big with a lot of features - they have several paddocks and even a trampoline. Come a little early so you can explore. The staff was very helpful when we were locked out and offered us water/tools to get into the car. The wranglers were sweet. 10/10 experience, would definitely come here again. My friend had an absolute blast and raved about it the whole way home. read more

This is a great idea to do during this pandemic. I went with a group of 6 (bc we did the Groupon) and it was our first time! We all had a great time with our horses. The guide's instructions were simple to follow and during the ride, we definitely got the hang of it. Our guide, (I think her name is Olivia), was very helpful and looked back at our group and even stopped frequently just to ensure we were all good. Everyone was friendly, and i mean, EVERYONE. I definitely need to get thicker because my butt bones are still in pain from the saddle lol. read more

I had the chance to take a trail ride this weekend and sadly I cant say I enjoyed it. Ive been horseback riding before and had great experiences but the horses here seem overworked and skiddish. That coupled with the fact they are very unorganized would make me look for another place in the future. The first thing that happened which rattled my nerves was just 15 minutes after arriving. A young girl who works there (about 9) was riding a horse in a nearby pasture. The horse got spooked and took off in a dead run about a quarter mile from where everyone was waiting to be mounted on their horse. The girl was unable to stop the horse and he continued to gain speed the entire quarter mile toward us. If you've never had a 1000 lb horse running full speed straight toward you let me tell you its terrifying. The girl falls off the horse (who keeps bolting) and all the other wranglers take off to chase him and check on her. One of them comes back with the horse who is clearly upset, rearing and making all kinds of grunting nosises. Not the first thing you want to see when you're about to go on a ride. The instruction, and I use that term lightly, about how to control the horse is so quick you'd better be a fast listener. The mentions they give you 15 minutes of instruction but Id say its actually more like 5-7 minutes. Its not even really instruction its like the mandatory speil the airline crew gives before you take off. Just a barage of words and hand motions. I was extremly surprised at how young the guides were. The girls who took us on our trail ride couldnt have been older than 20. Im sure they have been around horses their entire lives but I would have felt much more comfortable with an adult. While on our trail ride we had a few incidents. One which a rider fell off due to her horse bucking. So we had to wait on the girls to call a more senior wrangler to come assess the situation. Luckily the rider was able to finish the ride and wasnt badly hurt. Also there is a horse that likes to roll around in the grass at a certain spot during the trail ride. Well, he did this on our ride with a rider. Needless to say this freaked her out but again thankfully she wasnt injured. Also, one of the girls told us about the horse likes to do this in the exact same spot every trail ride. So why is that horse being used? Also an hour and a half is too long for the novice rider. The initial excitment wears off after about 30 minutes. The next 30 minutes are when your knees, legs and back start to ache and the last 30 minutes are just painful. I was really excited to patronize these folks after seeing what they went through with the tax day floods. But my visit this weekend was not memorable for positive reasons. I highly suggest you pay the additional fee and book a private ride to lessen the chance of an incident happening while on your ride. read more

We have come to Cypress trails for 3 years now for my daughters birthday. The first two she was to little and needed to be lead around. It was a great experience. Yesterday was her first and our first trail ride. We had a traumatic experience there and was handled beyond poorly. The man that got us on the horses was excellent. I wish I got his name. We all got on the horses and where waiting quit awhile because the young lady that was our trail leader had to eat and have a drink on her horse and was saying she was nauseated. She was very unprofessional. I'm not sure exactly what caused the next event, and I know horses and animals can do unexpected things. The horse threw the young lady off and she was almost crushed. Thank the Lord above she wasn't. The horse then fell between the electric fence and was being electrocuted in front of us. My 7 year old daughter watched in horror. I couldn't believe what was happening. The staff yelled turn off the fence which took a while. Then they yelled get them out of here. Which was us watching this horrible thing and honestly I was in such shock. The horse did get up. We where lead out I was talking to my daughter on her horse with big tears in her eyes. I let her ride the trail ride . It was nice the new leaders did a great job. We got off at the end no one asked if we where ok after the horrible earlier incident. Needless to say my daughter was so upset when we got in the car and so was I. Something we will never forget. I read more
