Booked a 1 hour trail ride for my 40th birthday. I also booked an equestrian experience for my parents who are a little older and didn't want to ride. The ranch and ride was so much fun, being outdoors with the beautiful horses. It was my first time riding- felt nervous but excited- and the team made me feel at ease. I received a mini walkthrough on how to guide the horse to go forward, stop, and turn. My guide was Matt who made my first visit (but not last!) great - told great stories, and shared about various animal/plant activity along the trail. What better place to mark the end of summer and the beginning of another Allstar month than an afternoon trail ride. I always wanted to come here but my kid was under 6 before Harvey so we didn't. I remember this place getting flooded hard during Harvey. And during the ride they'll show you a tree which was underwater 25" high. I kinda recall a lot of the horses dying and them trying to evacuate them. The flooding was so sudden and it surprised us as well with 6" of water overnight in my Kingwood house. The online booking system was easy to navigate. There is a fee or tax which was about $7 for the two of us on a 1 hour ride. It's nice that someone actually answers the phone if you call. She didn't sound like she was working at the ranch as I heard a baby in the background. Today being a Labor Day they were extra busy. In fact I tried booking online and was unable to get my first choice because it filled up literally right as I hit the pay button. In my opinion this is definitely one of the better run horse ranches in town. I've noticed that other places are run by folks who have a passion for horses but, although they may intend well, they just do not have either the business acumen or more often the discipline required to run a business. But this place has a better grip on customers. We booked a 1 hour ride which actually turned out to be the perfect amount of time for us because our bums started hurting around then. But if you're a die hard, you can get another half hour for only $15 more. And then another half hour on top or that for yet another $15. Helmets are required but you can wear them over a hat. They also have free new bandanas which is nice because I didn't see anyone tending to the helmets or cleaning them off after folks returned from their rides. The helmet rack is self service. And it was hot, sweaty and sticky out there. You can also borrow a fanny pack for free. There are a lot of choices there actually although some of the bags have holes so just double check them (some smelled like wet towel too). They're big enough to store your water bottle. There's a soda machine too for $1.75 It's a pretty big ranch with lots of horses and ranch hands to help out. Customers seemed to keep coming and going today yet the ranch had enough horses for everyone. They have all types of horses. One woman in my group was probably pushing the 240 lb weight limit and she got a big horse that had hooves like a Clydesdale. She was wearing open toe sandals (like tevas) too. Our guide was nice and literally gave this customer the socks off her own feet because she didn't want the customer to get scratched up rubbing against the trees and bushes in the forest. The guide just rode barefoot. They're not super strict on the shorts either as many folks including the guide was wearing them. I'd say the actual ride time is about 45 minutes on a 1 hour ride. 10-15 minutes of instruction and getting folks situated and sorted out with gear and on their horses before the ride. You'll see lots of beauty berries which have an odor used to make perfume. And even some wild bamboo too. If the guide asks the group to choose between the flat trail or going into the forest riding on uneven terrain that goes up/down definitely choose the latter. You get to go in the forest and along the river on an only slightly uneven trail. It's immensely more interesting than the flat trail part. And the actual up and down is so minimal you'd barely notice it. Our horses were so mild manner. They knew exactly where they were going without any need to guide them by the riders. At the end you get to give your horse water. But nobody's horse was thirsty. $5 gets you some horse food which I recommend if you enjoy more interaction. There are signs encouraging tipping for a good ride. But the guides didn't seem all pushy about it like some places. read more

This was my first time riding a horse, and it was so much fun. I booked a spontaneous trip after coming across their website. I booked a 90-minute adventure ride, and I was the only one in the 90-minute group, so there was flexibility in what to see. For a small fee, you can also feed the horses. The staff and horses are very understanding that I had no experience with horses at all. It was great to be in nature. It is a very fun trip, both solo and if one goes with a group of people. I booked the "Adventure trail ride" for myself and my 13-year-old daughter for this morning at 9:00 AM expecting a fun, engaging, and instructional experience. Unfortunately, it was the exact opposite. This was by far the slowest and most boring trail ride we've ever been on. The pace was so slow that both my daughter and I were literally struggling to stay awake. When we politely asked our guide, Adam, if we could go a little quicker, he sternly replied no, stating that we had booked a "slow ride" and that if we wanted a faster ride, we should have booked a fast one. What made this even more disappointing is that the ride was advertised as including instruction, yet there was very little instruction provided. The entire experience consisted of a slow walk with no meaningful guidance, tips, or interaction from the guide. After the ride, I double-checked their website, and nowhere does it state that the "Adventure" ride is slow-paced. On the contrary, the name and description suggest something exciting and hands-on. The expectations set by the listing are misleading. Overall, this experience was disappointing, especially for a child who was looking forward to something fun, educational, and memorable. I would not recommend this ride unless you are specifically looking for an extremely slow, uneventful experience. That said, the horses and the place were clearly well taken care of the online booking system, other than above need for improvement, works well. read more

Honestly, I had hoped for a much better experience after reading some other reviews. I took my mom and son. The horses were well taken care of and friendly enough. They didn't need much direction at all aside from not eating random plants during the ride. The staff not so much. There were a few guides that were just down right rude. My saddle wasn't even on right. We asked to take a photo after the ride as a family, because we got separated immediately when we were assigned horses, and although they did, they were visibly annoyed by it. They were also having a busy day, so I get it, however when running a business selling experiences, you should always allow for these things. Me and 6 others came here for my birthday, and it was one of the most fun experiences I've had in a while. I was a little nervous at first, but all of the staff were so professional, friendly, and educated about horses that it made me feel better. Plus, the staff gave so much direction, rules, and tips before the ride. Once we actually started riding, it wasn't nerve wracking at all and was so fun! We did the 1.5 hour adventure trail ride and our guides were Lois and Aria. Lois led the group and did a great job! I was closer to the back so I spent more time talking with Aria who was honestly amazing. She was so sweet, outgoing, and informative -- I couldn't believe how young she was when she told us because of the way she carried herself. I rode Toby who was a very sweet and calm horse. I will definitely be returning more than once and will ask for Toby, Aria, and Lois again! Cypress Trails is locally here in Houston and to my surprise it's located in the city area. They sit on about 800 acres of land and have such a beautiful view right in the city area. I did have a little problem finding parking, so make sure to come early or parked along the ranch trail. When you sign in it's a little hectic if you're running behind so make time to come earlier if you would like to get the full run down on the rules and regulations. The wranglers were very attentive and enthusiastic with the first timers and repeats, so it made the process a little less stressful. My horse was " Bobby the Bolt", he was so gentle and patient. We booked a private 2 hour ride and got matched with Rachel as our guide. She was so knowledgeable and patient with us. I rode Red, she seemed a little feisty at first (probably because I kept calling her a boy lol). But we bonded quickly and it was all up from there! All of the staff were so friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable. My only complaint would be the helmet I chose because the Velcro irritated my forehead (but I'm not letting that take away from the rest of the experience. I swear I wanted to abandon my adulting and run away and join their band of horse lovers...I can't wait to go back! PS. They were amazing. My six year old got spooked before we headed out and wanted to quit. They led us back in and suggested we switch to the pony/horse ride with her. She tried the pony too but was still too shaken to want to ride. Nick, one of their wranglers turned the day into an Equine Interactive Experience for her. She led the pony around the yard, got to brush and feed it, and ended the day smiling and happy from her amazing experience. We came to cypress Trails Ranch during our visit to Houston on our last day. the ranch was easily located by Uber and left us only 15 mins away from the Airport to travel back. The ranch was a lovely, friendly location where we were instantly welcomed and guided to where we needed to be. I purchased a fast ride where I was lucky enough to be alone with a guide. The ride consisted of different paces, going through the forest, cantering down the open creek and enjoying a chatty conversation with the guide. My partner stayed at the ranch, enjoyed time with the rescued dogs, stroking horses, trying on cowboy hats and getting to know the workers. Everyone was so kind. It is important to check your riding level and ability before purchasing a ride. I have ridden often in the UK and a fast trek was perfect for my ability. They also welcome all abilities. Staff at Cypress Trails Ranch were very careful choosing the best ride for my five-year-old granddaughter. She had never been riding before. I rode with him for about an hour. Within that hour, I learned a lot about Toby. He is determined, made sure I was safe, and brave. Although I was in charge of directing him, I think Toby did a better job directing me . To end the riding, I fed him some carrots for his hard days of work . *If you have the privilege of riding with Toby, a reminder, he does like to get a little close behind the horses - which you just pull back and he will pause. *I constantly petted Toby, making him feel a little more comfortable with me and constantly telling him "Good Job!"
