We had Rob do our cabinets in our Kitchen remodel. The process started out fine and he seemed pretty knowledgeable about what needed to be done and what he would do. He was late for every appointment we made through the entire process, and on some days wouldn't make it. This is very frustrating when I am taking time off work to meet him. The entire process was supposed to take 2 months to complete. We were never given plans for the cabinet that we were promised. Within a week a of the delivery date we contacted him asking about the cabinets. We were told it would be another week before he could be finished. We agreed and waited a week. I continued to ask for the drawings so we could iron out any issues we may have had. He finally sent over some drawings 1 week before the install date, and there were so many issues. Walls that shouldn't be there, cabinets not what we had talked about, wrong size cabinets as the measurements on the wall was completely off, and other issues. These are pretty big problems for a carpenter that should be precise.
Finally 2 weeks after we were supposed to have cabinets installed he showed up to install the cabinets. We were so excited only to find out he was only installing the shell of the cabinets. Even then there were a number of issues. One cabinet was missing a drawer, some were to small, they didn't line up, were uneven on the wall so when I set the cooktop on it one side was close to the wall while the other was couple inches off, appliances would not fit in the holes that were cut out, drawers were not dovetailed which was in the contract, and other issues.
During this process we found out Rob had taken a week vacation. We were trying to schedule other contractors but kept having to push them back due to no cabinets, as well as live without a kitchen for over 2 months. Not fun having a family of 5 with no kitchen.
After we were a month behind with only the shell of the cabinets installed I finally told him we were pulling out of the deal as we had to get this done. I was promised all the cabinet issues would be resolved and the doors were almost done. I called a week later and was told due to humidity all the doors warped and had to be redone. My wife wanted to see what they looked like so she drove to his shop. Nothing was being done at the shop. Shop was clean and no other projects were being worked on. She asked to see the "warped doors", only to be told he had sent them to another shop to be worked on. Not believing him as we had been lied to many times before, she wanted to go see them but he would not allow it. She called him out on this and come to find out there were no doors and drawers made yet. I again threatened to pull out of the deal and he told me he was going to have a local company make the doors for us. I got the name of that company and started working directly with them as I could not believe a word Rob said. He would tell me one date they would be done and I would call that company and get a later date. At least I had one company being honest with me.
2 months after the contracted date to be finished we finally worked through all issues. The final product does look very nice but what an inconvenience to live without a kitchen and be lied to so often. I don't think he did one part of this project himself or by his company. Only thing they did was the installation. If you do not mind him being late to meet or simply not show up, and the project going way beyond the quoted time, and him subbing all the work out then he may be a good fit. Again the final outcome was good. I did have one final issue that he never did come out to address. It was ok, he left a drill and called to get it. When I told him he needed to adjust one piece when he came out he simply never showed up so at least I got a drill out of that deal. read more
