I've heard a lot about this spot and the unique in-person dining experience. Unfortunately we aren't able to sit inside, but couldn't wait any longer to try it! We often order our Chinese takeout from another spot, so the expectation was sorta high. I felt like the items we ordered were okay, but boasted a different flavour to the other takeout I was used to. Which is more authentic? I am not sure! But I can tell you the flavours I preferred were that of the other spot. Notable items we ordered: - Lo Mein - Calgary Beef - Chicken Balls - Egg Rolls This spot was also a bit more pricey compared to other places I've tried before. I truly believe that this is the kinda spot you need to be in person for so I can't wait to head back here and try the indoor dining experience when we are able to! read more

Would've given one star but the delivery was relatively quick and cheap... ordered the beef lo mein. They scooped some plain noodles into a container with steamed veggies and beef and poured this weird gravy like sauce all over it. So much that it was pooling up on the sides. Nothing was mixed in and the noodles on the bottom were completely untouched by sauce or seasoning. Would've been better off going to Panda Express was like no lo mein I've ever seen and not in a good way read more

Items already marked GF on the menu will invite an additional GF charge, which is highly misleading. Also this was not my experience at another location in North York. The food is over salted and too sweet and the items are over-priced for the quality. The decor is nice though. read more

I first ordered Cynthia's to go (during Covid - we couldn't dine in), and it was good. But I wanted to dine in to really enjoy the food right when it was made (vs. having it sit in takeout containers for over 30 mins). The service was really good, and the food was too, although a bit greasy. However, I found it to be really pricey for the amount of food they give - especially for dine-in where they only accepted cash. For 4 dishes, it came up to almost $100!! For the price, I would not travel the 25 minutes to come here. read more

The food was amazing I craving the spring roll's right now. The service was awesome. The worker's had a good sense of humor and made me laugh a lot and the area was very nice ,glowing trees and a pond. They ring a gong when you order a duck. R.I.P duck. Overall amazing place 10/10 I would recommend. read more

Amazing food, great atmosphere and fantastic service. One of the best dining experiences in Oakville.

I've ordered take out from Cynthia's occasionally over the last couple of years, and the quality and taste of their food is consistently good. Since the beginning of 2022, I noticed that not only have their prices increased, their containers have shrunken. I get it, everybody's trying to adjust as we get through the pandemic. For my last order, I wanted to try something new, so I ordered their Sizzling ginger shallot chicken. This dish cost $15.95. I was very surprised to find so much onion in there. Keep note, these aren't shallots, but your run-of-the-mill, everyday onions. There was well over 1 cup of onions, with perhaps around 2/3 cups of chicken. Although the dish is listed under the chicken category, it's hard to call this a chicken dish. It's more accurately described as an onion dish with chicken. I called them to share my feedback about this dish, and Jessica said repeatedly that the right amount of chicken was added. Be that as it may, I find it misleading to call this a chicken dish. She offered to take my order personally next time, and add more chicken to it. It was a kind gesture, though it doesn't sit well with me that they have applied inflation to their prices, shrinkflation to their portions, and add a disproportionate amount of filler to their dishes. The value just isn't there anymore. read more

They missed the sweet and sour sauce from the fried prawns. A few of the prawns had a rubbery textured like microwaved. The lemon sauce for the lemon chicken smelled like kitchen cleaner, so artificial. The fried rice tasted reheated day old. Not returning here. read more

This is my first time trying Cynthia's Chinese restaurant. As a typical Chinese person, I really don't have high hopes on this restaurant.  First impression is walking in to the dining room, nice ancient Chinese design, and all the waiters and waitress are in ancient Chinese clothing as well. This must be one of the selling point for this restaurant. Service is quick and attentive. We order the peking duck, 2 fish maw soup, snow pea leaves with dry scallop and sweet and sour fresh whole fish debone.  I must mention the fish, it is fresh and need to place order ahead of time (probably 3 hours ahead) in order for them to prepare.  It is amazing and it is a typical northern part of China signature dish.  The snow pea leaves with dry scallop is another surprise dish. A lot of dry scallop, it is not like most restaurant that they only put some sauce on top of the vegetable to pretend they have the dry scallop on top of the veggies.  The peking duck skin is crispy and the meat is juicy, on par with "The One Fusion Cuisine" in Richmond Hill. The only drawback is the price of the duck, $69 is a bit expensive when compared to most Chinese restaurant in Markham, Mississauga, Richmond Hill and Scarborough. $50 is a more reasonable price to me on peking duck.  Finally, we ended up with deep fry cream brulee for the dessert.  Wonderful and keep up the good work! read more

Came here over the Xmas holidays with family, about 8 of us. I never usually go to Oakville for Chinese food, and actually never have, but based on this experience I'd be afraid to do so again. I'm sure there are good Chinese restaurants there though.. My overall experience wasn't the best. The restaurant was freezing, and the food was mediocre at best. The hot and sour soup tasted like ketchup, the general Tao and fried squid were super salty. Best thing we had was the Peking duck. I can get better Chinese food for much less in Chinatown in Toronto and even food courts in Markham /Richmond Hill. I should have known the food wouldn't be good, seeing how we were the only non-typical Oakville resident there. Lol The place has nice decor I'll give them that, but can't really enjoy it when you're freezing. read more

There's nothing wrong with Cynthia's. It's what we call "safe" food for Oakville...in other words, it's what one would expect going to a lot of run of the mill Chinese restaurants anywhere. The one difference though, is the decor - it's pretty grand. The food, maybe not so much. We prefer other restaurants in the area (Perfect Kitchen) for authentic food. We stopped going a while ago, as we found the food to be too salty and very generic tasting. Many of the dishes tasted identical and that shouldn't be the case. Service was always good, but we tend to go to restaurants for the food more so than the service or decor. If you haven't got great food, we won't be back, and this is the case with Cynthia's. read more

Never again. I made a reservation for 11 people to celebrate my son's graduation from university and went to the restaurant ahead of time to book a specific table. When we arrived though, we were put at a different table because they had given away our table to a smaller group for some reason. We soon regretted the new table since the sun shone very brightly on half the table. I mean blinding light. They did nothing to correct the situation when pointed out. It got worse. The waiters were terrible. Very robotic, no expression, no appreciation, touching food with their fingers, leaning over the guests and touching them. Horrible experience. You have been warned. read more

Disappointing. Cynthias used to be a favourite choice for us but the last few times has been very disappointing. Having not ordered from them in quite awhile we decided to revisit them this past week for delivery and I can say whereas we usually looking forward to having some leftovers this time I threw everything out barely touched And in fact all 3 of us had upset stomachs the next day from what we did eat. We ordered: Singapore Noodles - ok Egg rolls and spring rolls - ok Chicken Egg Foo Young - ok Green chicken curry - not green - zero curry taste at all - not med spicy as stated - grey chicken and paid for extra yuck Sizzling garlic chicken - no sizzle , no garlic - grey chicken - again paid for extra Chicken fried rice was good Sticky white rice - ok I am giving a pretty negative review in the hopes they up their standards and get back to what they used to be. Many people don't complain , they just don't come back. I won't be back until I hear things have greatly improved. read more

Upon entering, we were greeted right away by staff dressed in traditional northern CHINESE attire. Friendly, courteous and attentive. Busy on the Saturday night. Waited only 10 minutes for a table to seat 9. Glad I called ahead. We were seated at 8.45pm. They open till 11pm sat night. Food had good presentation as they were decorated with carved flowers, birds and other figures. Staff served and plated food , which was nice. Most Chinese restaurants only do partial service. Pricing was slightly higher but they made up in other ways. We had spring rolls, shrimp rolls, Peking duck, chicken fried rice with salted fish, seafood chow mien, general tso chicken, seafood in birds nest and Chinese tea. Great place to bring friends and family. I was expecting less from the poor reviews but was really happy with our experience. read more

Worst customer service I have ever encountered. Price gouging and lack of communication from staff. The food is half decent - I have spent a lot of money at this place and they lost a customer over a .80 cent charge in which they couldn't morally back up. Asked shrimp to be removed from a dish and requested it to be spicy and somehow this costed them more money which they charged me for? Insane read more

Such a cute place, and the food is REALLY good. They've been there 8 or so years now? Dumplings, alongside bbq pork, Chinese broccoli, and noodle dishes. It's comfort food to the max. It is also a good take-out spot with pretty good prices. Definitely love eating leftovers from Cynthia's! read more

We were looking forward to ordering Chinese food for New Years Eve. We preordered the day before for a 7pm pick up time. Although we preordered and were assured that it would be ready on time, we waited an hour to get our order. The restaurant was so chaotic-everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off; including other customers that were not happy. I was told that it was New Years Eve and it was busy. I understand that. However we preordered and secondly, you know it will be busy plan better. The food was good I will give them that. We won't be ordering from them going forward though as the wait time were rather inconvenient. read more

Atmosphere: 5/5 very nice set up I loved it a lot. Service: 4/5 above average. Really cool uniforms. Food: 3/5 very average to a lot of Chinese restaurants in Mississauga and Scarborough/Richmond hill and Markham. There are better places but just not in Oakville. Price: 2/5 this was where I was a little shook. I know there aren't many decent Chinese food places in Oakville but I think this place is taking advantage of that and milking it. Their prices are so high and the food is average. Just drive 15 mins in to mississauga and you will find much better tasting Chinese food. That isn't to say this place doesn't taste good I just don't think it justifies the price. Maybe because it's fluffed up with its presentation?! Either way I would go to mississauga. read more

One of the most decorated Chinese restaurants in Oakville, however still serves the typical chinese food you'll find in the area. I got takeout and everything was proper and ready to go when I got there. I ordered the Mix Vegetables in Satay Sauce and the Mushroom Fried Rice. I was a bit skeptical about the veggies but the sauce actually works well and gives the veggies a good unique flavour. The mushroom fried rice was above average, good wok flavour and satisfying bite. Although I didn't get the chance to have a dine-in experience, I can say that they're food is solid and well-prepared. No problems at all. Second time eating here and ordered Cantonese style sweet and sour chicken since we can't get it back in the US and it was horrible. Had no flavor and was poorly done. Been meaning to visit this restaurant for awhile, my preferred go-to is Congee Queen for Chinese cuisine. Being from Oakville on the recommendation from my neighbor I get eve it a try finally, first impression on entering is the elaborate decor (top marks) followed by an exceptional receptionist/waitress (Stella) who was super friendly and welcoming, she later was our server (party of 5). The quality of the food was overall Good, the garlic prawns being the highlight! Portion size on each order could have been proportionally larger vis a vis item price! The hot towels after the meal was a nice added touch. My memory of this first visit was bolstered by the personality & charisma of Stella, who arduously served us to perfection...will return again. read more

I am not Chinese, but I have been to China and this place reminds me of some of the fancy themed restaurants there. The staff wear colourful traditional tribal costumes. They are extremely attentive. The decor is themed, almost to the level of Rainforest Cafe, but more mature. I have never seen a Chinese restaurant in Canada with this much going on visually (although you can find much more than in China). My good friends in-laws visited from Beijing and were treated to may restaurant meals, yet this place was the only place they liked. They are very picky. The style and cuisine are a bit of condradictions, but work. The owner is apparently is a very nice Cantonese lady, yet the cuisine is not more Northern Chinese style. Yet the costumes are from Western China. I would not have been aware of this but was informed by my friends. The food was excellent. Even the fried Tofu (which is very simple and plain dish) was done very well, and I went back for thirds...which is saying a lot for Tofu. The staff seem to be specialized in singing Karaoke "Happy Birthday" along with a video presentation. It's very quirky or kitschy! It's super fun if you have good sense of humour. I am going to check out their other locations, and hopefully they are just as good. read more

If you are looking for a tasteful Chinese dining experience then this place is perfect. However, if you want an authentic Chinese meal, just keep looking... probably not in Oakville. I would suggest Mississauga or Toronto. Please don't interpret this review the wrong way, the food is good. Some dishes were actually very good. But I've had the same or better for much less because it didn't include the costumed servers and the Asian decor. As an example, the won ton soup was presented in a silver serving dish with a sliding dome top (think of the chilled silver butter dishes you see when you go for afternoon tea - yeah, that size). Unfortunately what was revealed was a tiny bowl containing a bland broth and two teeny tiny won ton. I think it was around $5 for that. So, just to recap - I would recommend this place if you want an elegant "dining experience". If on the other hand you just want an authentic Chinese meal that is just as good but without the showiness, try driving a few miles eastward. read more

Over priced suburban Chinese Food is one thing but the grumpy faced (my son's description) unresponsive waitress is another. If you like over priced Chinese Food, slow service (an hour and a half) & grumpy faced staff who dismisses your complaints with zero response & death stares this is the perfect place. Enjoy & plan accordingly. Make sure you leave the kids at home because they'll lose their appetite after asking why she (the waitress) is so "mean faced" & request to go home because "service is better" at home. All style no substance- And they make sure you pay for the style. Went for lunch today. The decor was certainly extravagant (though sort-of gimmicky and overboard). I could see it appealing to children as the fabricated atmosphere is reminiscent of a Rainforest Cafe type place. The service was nice. Its certainly a departure from your typical Chinese fare. Essentially emulating a fine dining experience. They even plate your food for you which I found to be atypical of these types of places. Our waitress was kind and available. It felt a little awkward to be ordering fried dumplings with this kind of service behind it, but I won't complain. The real killer for me here was the pricing, quality, and portion of the food. Essentially the food ranges from $15-30 and the quality is not much different from your average Chinese take-out spot. We were immediately alarmed when our $10 Crab Cheese dumplings only came with 3 small pieces. It wasn't bad but the portions were hilariously small for that price. The sauces tasted off for both the "Lemon Honey Chicken" (a 'chef special'... yikes) and the "Mongolian Beef" (recommended by our waitress). They also came on very small plates littered with inedible garnishing and way too many pieces of pineapple, pepper, and onion. The Chicken Balls, while crispy, were nothing to write home about and didn't taste authentic. So we left, moderately full, and with an $80 bill without dessert or drinks. You seem to be paying for the over-the-top decor and service. Never coming back here again. read more

The only reason I am giving this great restaurant 2 stars is due to how awful the service was tonight. I have been coming exclusively to Cynthias in Oakville for take out, delivery and dine in service for years! Everything has always been fresh tasty and friendly. However tonight I opted to order online. As you check out, the option to automatically tip is there, being *savvy* with technology I thought it to be a cool new option and tried it out. Honest mistake, the tip didn't go through. Now, as someone who has worked in service I would never intentionally leave nothing. I understand that it how servers in any capacity survive. I wouldn't have known at all had the driver Not called my house, twice, to inform me. The first call I got was rude, short and accusatory. Though I did apologize and explained what must of happened I was met with responses like "next time if you don't want to tip, just get pick up, I had to drive ten minutes in the snow just for you" Shocked I hung up, appalled that Cynthias was capable of such behaviour. Then a second call because apparently the delivery driver wasn't satisfied with what he said the first time. And this was the kicker. After saying sorry a SECOND time explaining that it was a mistake, (not that I should have to) I was told, and I quote "don't lie, don't you go to church on Sunday? Have some respect for your elders" This will go down as the worst customer service I have ever received. I have never been one to not tip in service, it was once how I made my living. But after all of this nonsense you've lost a customer and any good rating, let alone a good tip for this evening. read more
