I brought the bike immediately back to the store, but when I put the kickstand down, the bike fell over. The owner told me that "I should have known that such a large basket would be too heavy" for the kickstand they supplied. They offered to replace the kickstand on the bike, as well as fix the wire scratching my ankle. When I returned the next day, the new kickstand worked but the same wire was again sticking out. The owner told me that the wire I was referring to was "not the wire that was sticking out yesterday." He insisted that the wire I had complained about the day before was the one scratching my right inner thigh, not my right ankle. I told him I know the difference between my right ankle and right thigh (especially since I am a doctor), but he refused to believe me, insisting that he was correct. I decided I didn't want to conduct business with such a rude and disrespectful shop, and he is refusing to provide a refund.

As my community bike shop was closed I did not have the tools to fix it, so a friend sent me here to Dumoulin. I told the cashier there was noise from the bottom bracket, and asked them to check it out and give me a call as to what they found along with an estimate. Half an hour later as I am exiting the metro I get a call: they have installed new pedals. I ask if that was what the problem was (and slightly irritated they didn`t call for authorization) they said "Yes". I pick up the bike. I am riding away and I hear the same noise! I take it back: "No, it`s fixed," they say. I make the cashier come out and ride it. He hears the noise. You have to leave it; we`re closed. When I pick it up they charge me for the bracket repair and new pedals. I argue and they say "We`ll have to take back the new pedals.`Fine, just put on the old ones which were good. They can`t find them. First they bring me mismatched pedals, then finally a pair of matched pedals that are tiny. Just wanting out of there, I agree. Two weeks later one of the pedals falls apart. I take it back and ask them to fix it: they can`t but will sell me new ones! I argue and say you can give me used but they have to work: they tell me they will charge an installation fee! My friend from the neighborhood also is arguing with them: finally he installs two matched pedals. Two blocks later I hear grinding: one of the pedals has shot bearings. I`m done. A month prior with another bike I had a minor problem with my rear wheel. The owner of La Shop Urbaine on Villeray fixed it and didn`t charge -- and he hadn`t broken it! I will pay HIM for new pedals. Unbelievable that Dumoulin removes good pedals, replaces them with crap pedals, then wants to charge for repairs. In the midst of that I had given them another bike to fix the rear wheel: they sold me a new one saying it was better. The new one takes three times as long to stop when braking. I think their answer to everything is to sell you a new part even if it`s no good. I wouldn`t send a crook here...

The 'tattoo-guy' and 'baseball cap-guy' are also as talented, direct, and dependable. I had to ditch a bike early in the season due to rust once and they put together an affordable and adapted 'Frankenstein' bike for me to last the season. No frills great service. Definitely worth going to.

"I'll just fix the things that are broken for now (front brakes, front derailleur)". Then the white-haired dude saw that my fork was rusting out, I thought yeah, we should replace that. Then white-haired dude said in the most dour way possible, "No, we're not gonna work on your bike. It's for the trash." Far from it! Everything else was functioning, the frame was in decent shape, it had winter tires valued at $130 each. If you're in the neighbourhood, I recommend La Bicycletterie J.R. on Rachel instead.

I loved the experience and the guys were super nice. Most of the guys there can speak English and French. I got my handle bar tape changed and bought the tape from the bike store. They carry higher-end bike parts and gears but it wasn't too ridiculously priced. They offered me a discount for a cafe around the corner so I could go get a coffee and wait to get my bar taped changed. I think they also offer student discounts but I was just so thrilled with the service and my new handlebar tape I forgot to ask for it. I would definitely go back!
