Cycle Technique is a great shop catering both to pure cyclists and to the triathlon crowd. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff will be able to give you great advice for all you cycling, running and swimming needs. In addition to all the great stuff you can buy at the shop they are the only store in town that also has a full blown training centre, which includes a spin room and endless pool. Whether you've worked up your appetite as a result of a big workout in the spin room or a shopping spree, there is also a cafe right in the shop where you can grab a sandwich and a cappuccino before hitting the road. The guys at CT have always gone the extra mile for me, getting my bike ready on short notice when their in peak season and even lending me a bike to race on when they found a crack in my frame. read more

I drove to Montreal from Ottawa to a specialty triathlon shop on a brisk Thursday afternoon, which basically had a product that I needed to basically do the marathon in Ottawa with. Either there or in Toronto. Cycle Technique is a specialty triathlon shop that specializes in tri bikes, apparel, and even swim wear for the seasoned and novice triathlete. No matter what you are into, there is usually something for everyone here. For me, it was a 2 hour drive from Ottawa or a 4 hour+ drive to Toronto. That's a no brainer for me. Shorter the drive the better, I think. I ended up talking to one of the sales staff about me trying to get my foot wet into the triathlon world and he gave me some pointers in what to do and what not to do. That gave me hope for the future, but as I look back on it, triathlon training does take up a lot of time, not to mention more money for race entry fees and bike transport, if you decide on traveling for Iron distance events. I took his advice to heart and thanked him. Who knows what the future would bring, but good things do happen, when you believe in yourself and make it happen out there in training and on race morning. I know that all too well with the marathons and the travels I've done so far. The overall experience here at Cycle Technique went fairly well. It all started as a way to get my special product that I had been using since late March to gradually lose weight and get back into running (faster) shape, which I already gotten, but the advice mentioned above, was so much better. Not sure what will happen with this advice, but it's always welcome and I've always admire those who've conquered the 70.3 and 140.6 for the first time and beyond. It's just amazing! Cycle Technique is located in the awesome city of Montreal, QC at 788 Avenue Atwater near the city center / business district. I was grateful for the street parking right in front of the store, so I did not have to take time and look for some. Timing is everything, sometimes! They accept major credit cards, so that's always a plus. The prices here are competitive, although it can be a little pricey just because they're trying to stay competitive. I bet that the city of Montreal has a very competitive triathlon scene, as well as an active community too. For the most part, the service here was just touch and go - as far as checking out my purchase. Not much really, except for the advice from the sales guy about triathlon training. They also sell running shoes in the back, but geared for the triathlete. Thought that was pretty cool. Additionally, they do custom bike fittings and bike repairs as well. When I was in the store, a couple came in and brought their bike in for service, so that was cool. It was pretty amazing to see all those brand spanking new triathlon bikes, with famous names "Cervelo" leading the pack. Definitely recommend coming here if you are looking to be a triathlete or are a seasoned competitor and are in Montreal, QC. There will be good and bad days during training cycles, but best believe that once you hit that finish line, it's all worth it! Although they do carry a limited supply of the sports supplements, depending on the brand you use, they may have something there for you too. OH, Cycle Technique, I had high hopes for you as you are in my neighborhood and by all appearances look like you are a knowledgeable bike shop. However I should know never to judge a book by its cover, I've been burned three times by you guys, you've wasted my time and money. I have purchased 3 tire tubes from you in the span of 3 months. On my first occasion I was left standing in your repair shop being ignored for about 20 minutes. Then your staff member rolled his eyes and reluctantly acknowledged my presence with a "YESS?". I asked for a 700 23c regular presta valve, you gave me a box that stated 700 28c , I asked if you were sure this would fit my 700 23c and you told me yes. Unfortunately, it didn't so back to CT in exchange for the right size. The following tube lasted all of four weeks, so back I go on foot because you are close and again yet another tube. Three weeks. So I returned to your shop in search of a possibly stronger tire tube? maybe? I gave you one star because I was greeted promptly when I returned- shouldn't we be on a first name basis by now?- the person on staff was very engaging and helpful. HOWEVER I was sent home yet again with the wrong tube this tube is a 32c and not a presta valve. Had I not given you the benefit of the doubt again I would have checked the box before I left CT. I currently have a flat tire and a tube that is too big and has the wrong valve. Should I return? Fool me once, fool me twice..... read more

My boyfriend and I both brought our bikes here at the beginning of the season. We each got a tune up, a couple flats changed, new brake-pads and I got new baskets and handlebars as well. First off, this place is very, very busy and not fast at all. After dropping our bikes off we were told it would take a week and a half, and they would call us. They never called, I called them and was told the bikes had been ready for days. Well, that would have been nice to know! We went in and picked our bikes up. In addition to not calling us when they were ready, when they rang us up the price came up to an extra $20 more than they had quoted us on the phone. After I complained, they took it off, but they still did not seem very organized for a very expensive bike shop (we paid $190). What we got for our money was very disappointing. The bikes seemed as if...well, as if nothing had been done other than the extra changes we had asked for. We had each paid $50 for a tune-up (that was apparently impossible to opt-out of when coming in for a flat) and had been reassured that every bolt, gear, brake, etc would be checked. I have had good tune-ups before and in my experience they are worth it, but with this one the bike really felt as if nothing had been done other than the minor changes I had paid extra for. The bikes hadn't even been cleaned or lubed up. In addition to the tune-up seeming non-existent, my boyfriend's tires had not been pumped up all the way, his brake pads scraped against his tires, and my handlebars were too long and out of alignment with the wheel. A couple days after picking up our bikes, we went on a long bike ride. First we stopped by Cycle Technique to get his tire's pumped up and our brakes adjusted. We felt very rushed, they would barely let us speak before running off the computer to check if what we said matched up with the services we paid for (it did). After that, we went off. After about 30 minutes my boyfriend's tire went flat! Luckily we were right next to Ca Roule Montreal, and brought it in there. In about 10 minutes the repairman there looked at the wheel and went through and pulled out about 6 sharp pieces of jagged metal. Oh, I wonder why he got a flat! They fixed the flat and sent us on our way, no problems since. So in addition to being rushed, disorganized, expensive, and with a long wait, their $50 "check every bolt" tune-up apparently isn't thorough enough to find sharp pieces of jagged metal in the wheel while you're changing the tire. I've been shopping at Cycle Technique for close to 5 years and I always return to this shop (even if it's across town from where I live) because of the products and the staff. The services are also top notch. If you are into Triathlon's then this is where you should train during the winter months! They have a Infinity pool, running room and spinning room in the basement! No other bike store compares. I was honestly intimidated when I walked in the first time with my Peugeot "Fixie" conversion, being surrounded by Bianchi's and Cervelo's was overwhelming but they still helped me with a smile, that is one of the many reasons why I went back again and again and since then, I ride with them, I spin with them and bought my last two road bikes there! Give it a try, you'll not be dissapointed. read more

It's a very nice store and you can tell they put effort into it and all the appearances. I felt pressure to buy and did not enjoy my experience after having waited for what seemed like ages. To top it all off I then found out that my bike that I had purchased was not the right size when I went elsewhere for faster and friendlier service !!! read more

I was very surprised to find and read negative reviews on this shop. Even though I am not a regular customer at this shop, I live in the South Shore, I was always welcomed there and their staff especially mechanics, were always very eager to help. My latest encounter with them was actually yesterday, when a peloton decided to take a sudden shortcut and ran into me, causing me to fall (no harm done thankfully) but causing my rear wheel to rub against the brake pads. Knowing the shop wasn't far, I paid them a visit and immediately inspected my wheel, as well as the rest of my bike. About half an hour and one excellent espresso later, my bike was handed back to me, good as new. Kudos to the whole gang at Cycle Technique. If I ever decide to change my bike, I now have another shop to consider, along with Primeau Vélo on the South Shore. P.S. They are one of the few shops in and around Montreal, that carry the Assos brand of cycle clothing. Expensive, yes but the most comfortable of all. read more

The only reason I gave this two stars is because the floor/sales staff are really friendly when you walk in. If you have to deal with a mechanic directly, forget about it. You'd be better off taking your bike to a co-op or finding a local back yard mechanic to be honest; better service and quicker turn around time. read more
