They have all the safety gear that still looks tough and cool. They sell things like specialized motorcycle jackets that have extra padding on the elbows and shoulders. If you eat asphalt, the pads on here will do most of the work. The helmet selection here is great! They lean towards the more professional, more serious helmets that are for people who are going to be doing highway riding instead of something like small helmets. Some of the helmets even have bluetooth equipment built in. They have leatherware that will protect your hide as well. This is the best place to go in town for motorcycle clothing! They sell accessories to help you chain up or tune up your motorcycle. They sell tires- I've never thought about all the different sizes and styles of tires, but they've got a whole lot of different ones. When speaking with the staff, they seemed to really know what they were talking about. They were friendly and made good recommendations on helmets. They have a return policy that let us try things out and take back that didn't work. They've got a bunch of motorcycle gear that isn't all necessarily stamped with motorcycle brand names on it. I knew there was a reason I hadn't been in this place in about five years, even though it's pretty close to my house. I went in and bought about $200 worth of stuff, a seat cushion and a handlebar mounting system for an iPhone. The guy I dealt with there was great, very accommodating, helpful and hands on. I got the mount on and rode home, it worked great. Once home it was one of those things-- I moved the clamp over to a more comfortable position and sure enough, the oddball socket head screw holding it together dropped out and rolled god knows where (I gave up after looking for an hour). So I call back and plead my case to the guy on the phone. I just bought $80 worth of stuff I can't use (special locking phone case: $30. Special handlebar mount for locking case: $50) out of a total purchase of $200. Is there any way they could hook me up with the screw out of another kit, or at least give me the specs of the screw so I can fix it? "We don't sell those separately and I don't know what size it is." It was a different guy from who sold it to me, and this one couldn't get off the phone fast enough. Couldn't care less my $80 in purchases was useless, but he'd be happy to remedy the situation by selling me another $50 clamp. Also he offered some advise. "Home Depot has screws look there." Maybe what this kid doesn't realize is I'm an old biker, and honestly I "need" about zero of what's on sale here; everything in this store can be bought more cheaply online, and 97% of what's on sale is superfluous to the equipment you actually need as a biker anyhow. I understand not wanting to tear into new inventory willy nilly, but it seemed like something easy enough he could get swapped out with his own vendor next time they come. Shit happens. I'm not keen on using a non-oem screw (the one that came with the clamp is not a standard machine screw, it's a deep socket hex head) to hold this clamp on my bike since it will be holding my cellphone too, and my phone most likely won't survive a clamp failure at highway speeds. Ah well, my problem I guess. They got my $80. But I'm fairly sure it's going to be at least another five years before I go back in this place again. read more

I've had the pleasure of spending money at multiple Cycle Gear stores and never once had a bad experience. I can't, however give much of a review of the website since I shop from one of their competitors. There's something comforting about being able to get your hands on the gear you're checking out. It's unfortunate that this particular store is a bit smaller than some of the CG shops I've been to but it satisfies the physical needs to inspect your potentially new equipment. Regardless of it's size compared to other, larger, CG shops, this particular store does have a bit of merchandise to offer. From 2 piece leathers, full race suits, MX gear, casual apparel and aftermarket accessories, there's definitely enough to keep you looking and eventually spending your hard-earned cash. I'm looking forward to getting my tires replaced, which, as some of you know, can be a pricey ordeal. They're offering $20 installation for store bought tires and $30 for non - considerably cheaper than any shop around this area. The sales are pretty impressive as well. I was able to pick up a helmet for $70 less than what's advertised in other cycle shops. I haven't explored price matching, but what's the point if some of their prices are lower than most? Shipping fees? What's that? I would like to see a greater assortment of gear on the MX side of the house, as well as a few more Icon brand and Alpinestars brand items on the shelves. In any case, I'm looking forward to many more visits and would recommend a visit to anyone. read more

Used to be an avid cycle gear customer.... They have lost me which probably doesn't matter to them but standing by your customers is what I look for in a company. I purchased a mirror at this San Antonio location for my bike. Nothing crazy expensive.... Just a $20 Acerbis Handlebar mirror. Upon purchase the salesman assured me that I would be able to try it out and if it didn't work bring it back and no problems. He even said "dude we can even open stuff here and try it out before you buy to confirm it fits." I was stoked so bought the one I liked thinking it would work for me. Unfortunately it wouldn't stay up in its spot on the bike at all. I'm temporarily here for my retraining school and needed a mirror for my commuter. The military put me up in a hotel and they clean my room every 2 days. The mirror comes packaged in a square piece of cardboard and a cellophane wrap around it. (Therefore the wrapping would immediately be destroyed upon opening.) I kept everything in the package to include the sticker, instructions, 3 screws, the mounting piece, the mirror itself, and the receipt and unfortunately the very detailed housekeeping lady took the piece of cardboard behind the package and assumed it was trash. Never rode it outside, only tested in the hotel room. 2 days later I come pick up another purchase to return this mirror in perfect condition that I didn't get to use minus the piece of cardboard and I am met with because it's not in its original packaging it cannot be returned. I said "everything is here minus the cardboard backdrop." Even neatly tucked in a plastic baggy to show its brand new and unused. Guy at the desk goes to ask his manager and returns with a no. Bummed, I go to my truck and before I pull off I want to go back in to ask for clarification that "if I somehow find this square piece of plain cardboard then you can take it back?" Goes back to ask the manager and comes back with a yes. Now I know I'm never getting this piece of cardboard. But the manager wouldn't even come out to look and see what I'm trying to return. It's not a multi hundred or thousand dollar purchase I used, thrashed and am now trying to return. It's a brand new $20 mirror. Minus a piece of cardboard. I have seen multiple stores restock items in baggies or even nothing but put a price tag on it. Not a huge deal however I can't even get a consideration or store credit or anything for a place I frequently purchase with a huge smile on my face. They have lost me as a customer and this location needs to put priorities in check or at least attempt to rectify the situation. read more

PEACHES!!! That's all you need to say when you walk into Cycle Gear. I promise you....you will get the best service ever!!! My husband and I decided we needed new helmets. First we stopped by the Harley dealership we frequent (and bought our original helmets from) what I realized is you are helped by very nice sales girls who don't ride and don't really know a lot about helmet fit. We then stopped by Renegade on Bandera Rd. The guy couldn't even bring himself out from around the counter. We walked into Cycle Gear and Peaches offered to assist us. WOW! Not only is Peaches beyond knowledgeable about all the products and brands he sells but he rides. That makes a big difference. We were there so long, trying on different helmets that the shop closed. They close at 7:00pm. Granted we arrived at 6 and had to wait while other folks were being helped. Peaches stayed with us, I never felt rushed, and he helped us find the perfect size and style for the type of riding we do. I'm extremely happy with my new SHOEI Neotec II helmet. SHOP ELSEWHERE. Your life and safety are not worth the few bucks you will save by shopping here. The majority of the products they offer are made in Pakistan(or worse) and are absolute garbage. Bilt, Trackside, etc, etc. An example of this cheap quality "cycle gear exclusive product" costs the company $16.50, they then sell this helmet for $199.99. I am not exagerrating these figures. Other companies use molds to make their helmets, these molds are good for so many thousand casts. After their lifespan for quality is up, these molds are sold or given to companies like CG. They then use them for their helmets. These molds may be off causing helmets to be uneven and/or unsafe. Low cost, maximum profit. The staff want to do nothing but squeeze every dime out of you they can. I should know, I used to work there. They are given sales goals per hour they are on the clock. You will get good prices on Shoei, AGV, ARAI helmets, but no less than any other major retailer. Order from somewhere like Revzilla. Their tire change prices are very low, but the turn around time depends entirely on the managers mood. The manager is a whole other story as well. He has quoted people as much as 48hours, TO PUT A TIRE ON. There are multiple other places in town that will do it for a bit more while you wait. I really cannot say enough bad things about this place. The last manager left the company because of the direction they were headed(gear quality, etc, etc.) I apologize if this review is all over the place, I have so much to say. Buyer beware! read more

I have been stationed all over the U.S. and shopped at more than my fair share of motorcycle gear stores and I will say that the customer service here was great. All the employees were helpful and talking to everyone that came in the store. I have been there several times and in my experiences they have not tried to up-sale me or rip me off. I was already going to give a bad review based on the fact that every single employee in the store when I went in to get the $200 tire that I bought mounted was about as apathetic and disinterested in helping customers as Wal Mart, but having ridden home on the tire they mounted, I have a much better reason to get a bad review. They mounted and balanced my tire and after riding home on it discovered it had EIGHTEEN POUNDS of air in it, less than half the required pressure. Dangerously low, and I'm lucky I didn't get on the highway. I'll be bending the managers ear about it in the morning, but in the meantime, if you're looking for good customer service, or competent tire mounting, go elsewhere. read more

Ok for the most part but be careful with the firmest. I bought a helmet for $500. The sales rep had me try some on and then held the helmet with her hands while telling me to turn my heat side to side in the helmet up/down etc. I told her it was really tight. Like literally I told her it would pull up my eyelids when I took it off. She said it had to be tight though and it would break in. I didn't really like the eyelid thing though so I bought a neotech. It's a helmet where the whole face not just the face shield lifts up. I picked it this way I can put it on/off with the face raised and it wouldn't be as bad as pulling up my top eyelids lol. Anyhow it didn't break in as well so I went back and she sold me some new helmet pads that are thinner to replace the originals. $90. I bought them and that didn't work either. When I ride anytime past like 30minutes I star getting sharp pains within my head in different places like it's cutting off circulation and my face is red/purple when I take it off. They're allowing me to return the extra pads but nothing can be done with the helmet even though I feel I was mis-fitted for it. Mattresses as an example have a 30day comfort guarantee where you can change it out if it's uncomfortable but you have to sleep on it 30 nights to give it time to break in. Cycle gear should consider doing something similar. I feel like I'm pretty much just out $500 after spending close to 2k in that store buying all my gear for my first bike. read more
