Not to say we don't have excellent local pharmacies in our town, but sometimes you need a corporate store for such things as immunizations, which was my case in this instance. The check in process was uneventful and fast. I had made the appointment and paperwork online several days ago and the reception was fast. The inoculations specialist, Ian, was courteous and very efficient. I had my booster before I knew it. The rest of the store is fine. Well stocked, very good variety. Excellent wine section too, with many of the lesser priced items on the shelves. Of course, I'm not coming to CVS for a Chateau Latour, but if I'm having a cookout with a bunch of people, this will do. As in the old Rite Aid, they have BOGO on many of the vitamins. To make it worse, most of the sales people sit by and announce they cannot help you until you correctly fill out the computer screens. They have not connected the notion of helping customers with service. And to top it off, there are unending phone calls with synthesized voices telling you to come down and pick up or order a script. They are the worst. The woman who often is at the drive thru is the exception. She is friendly, helpful and competent. Too bad Rite Aid left town.

Of the many pharmacies in the Lebanon NH area, this was the only one that was open--the drive thru is open 24 hours! I also needed to purchase something inside, which was locked up, lights off. The gentleman was nice enough to unlock the doors and let me in to get what I needed. He was very professional, courteous and empathetic to my situation. If you have any special requests or anything unusual about your prescription check to make sure it was handled correctly before you drive off/leave, it most likely won't have been done correctly. Prescriptions are also taking longer and longer to fill. The only good things about this pharmacy at this point is the staff are trying, and it is better than CVS in Hanover which is an even bigger disaster.

However, today I decided to try something different by ordering online from Walmart, in West Lebanon NH. It indicated that my order would be delivered today, the same day I placed it, but I did not pay much attention to that detail. I assumed I would receive it sometime during the week. While I was relaxing in bed, I heard a car pull into my driveway. Since I was alone and not expecting anyone, I got up and went to the front door. I saw a white SUV, and the driver asked, 'Walmart?' I replied affirmatively, and he then indicated, 'It's over there.' As a linguist, I am familiar with various accents, and I could tell he was Hispanic. I even called out, 'Muchas gracias.' How fortunate are we? My goodness, this poor man is working on a Saturday night to deliver items that are of little significance to us. I hope this serves as a reminder, as it has for me, that we are incredibly fortunate to be relaxing in bed on a Saturday night while others toil to make our lives more convenient. Therefore, I extend my gratitude to Walmart and urge you to take care of your employees; without them, you would be nothing. And to those reading this: please show kindness to everyone, especially to those who work diligently to deliver the items we order.

Corner Drug - White River Junction. For prior tax returns, I would call and ask for the total $…read morespent in the previous year. Very simple. However, when I asked for the 2019 year, I was told to give them an hour and they printed out dozens upon dozens of pages of individual drugs, and told me they had no means to give me the total for the year. How cruel can you get? I have to put each into a calculator and when adding all these dollar values of small amount, can only hope I don't make a mistake. I had to stop getting my medications at their store because my health service provider insisted I switch from conventional pill containers to a bubble pack to prevent errors. I am 70, it was not my choice to have a specialty company supply me the bubble packs each week. Apparently Corner Drug is a family run business. They can be petty and paranoid about losing customers that they treat you like this. They were my choice over Walgreen's as they never tried to rip me off like Walgreen's did for years. One antidepressant cost $412 per month, but Corner Drug charged me under $50. Just be aware that Corner Drug prices are excellent, but on certain issues they can be mean.

They are knowledgeable, friendly, and quick to fill/refill prescriptions. They know us so we aren't one of a thousand faces that cross their counter. I know it's harder and harder for small owned and operated pharmacies to continue given how health care has evolved and that's unfortunate. I definitely feel safer with Family Pharmacy. I hope they stay around for a long time.
