The pharmacy is wildly understaffed, which has led to multiple errors in my prescriptions. The lowest common denominator pharmacists. The lady tonight admitted "I'm not a regular pharmacist." They don't even have "regular pharmacists." She should be fired from her job, and this CVS should be shut down. God only knows what medicine they're dispensing to people, the elderly, children. In addition to all this, it's disgusting in there. It's dirty, there'a grime on the walls, water falling from the ceilings. In my experience at the CVS Montclair store, the store manager, Drew, and his staff ( and the store Security Officer) are genuinely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. A+'s all around there. However, it appears that CVS's senior management could be more supportive of this small, very busy pharmacy. Not too long ago, Montclair was served by three different pharmacies. Two closed and now there is only one; CVS. As a consequence, the wait for service there can be a bit long, even though the staff is clearly working steadily and quite hard. I like this store a lot. However, in the future, I may start bringing a good book, a bottle of water, and a small folding camp chair with which to wait in line. I have used good rx coupon for my generic vyvanse every single time I have filled at at this CVS and this visit they said they don't do that and the pharmacist raised his voice at me with a dismissive hand. Switching my pharmacy going forward. Because of the type of medication it is I felt like I was being treated like a drug seeker trying to get a deal. I have adhd. My copay just went up for 375.00 on this medication THIS month - cvs has honored my good rx every single time. Never seen this pharmacist before here but I won't be back. Drew Thompson (pharmacy manager) is incredibly friendly and helpful. I've honestly never worked with a better pharmacist. He actually cares about his customers and all of their individual needs. My son has many medications that are constantly changing- he is always there to help me through insurance and ordering challenges in a timely manner with a smile on his face. My mother went in to go pick up her medication on May 13th at 1PM, and the worker (apparently a tall Caucasian male) was extremely rude to her. Her English is a little broken so I understand the difficulties he might've had when communicating with her. However, despite her just straight up giving the insurance card to pick up medication and attempting to communicate with him, he cut her off refused to listen. She had to calm down and go back and call me to speak with him on the phone, and he was still extremely rude while raising his voice saying "I cannot speak that language. I CANNOT communicate with her". Look, I understand language barriers are difficult and everyone has their bad days. But that's NOT a reason to put someone down enough to a point where they come back home crying, making them need hours to calm down to try and go back. I don't know if this it's this worker who doesn't know what professionalism or basic human decency is, or if this CVS that believe it's okay to treat people like this. Every single person is someone else's family. Think about that. Really, try thinking about how you would feel if someone important to you had to fear being mistreated when doing something as simple as picking up their medication. I don't know who you are, but you should know that you have done an awful thing. I am hoping you are not treating anyone else this way. I hope you're not scaring away other people who are just trying to pick up their medication while you're on the clock, getting paid to give people medication. Do your job. Last few times I've been here to pickup a package... "Oh we haven't received any deliveries from UPS." "Really? I have the tracking and it shows it was delivered at this date and time at this location. Can you double check?" Associate gets annoyed, digs through packages behind them and locates the one for me. Make sure you have all of your delivery details because if you don't they're going to tell you they don't have your package without even checking. read more

Drew Thompson, the CVS that you manage in Oakland in Montclair is a hot mess! You close on time which is great except for the staff, but not for the customers people who've been waiting in line and arrived before closing time. You staff comes out to ask if anyone needs to speak with the pharmacist about 10 minutes before closing but doesn't say that they will close. Then they announce 12 minutes after closing that the pharmacy is closed and the 8+ people in line will need to come back tomorrow at 11 am. That's later than banker hours my gosh. Then the clerk scolds us and says we should have gotten there sooner. I for one was there at 5:50 so I'm not sure to whom she was speaking to. They refused to call you or a supervisor. Automated refill system said they'd reach out to the vet to get prescription refill. It didn't. Vet confirmed they faxed in a refill. CVS system lost it. I called the next day to ask about refill status, system said they would call me back and they didn't. So 6 days later, I have run out of anti-seizure medication for my dog and the pharmacist's attitude is "I don't know if I can call the vet today, I am busy" Complete lack of customer care or attempt to work on resolving this. What a joke. I miss Rite Aid. read more

I just visited to pick up a few things on my way to the next task on my list.. This comment is about the wonderful experience I had at the checkout line. I was completely not paying attention, but handed Unekka a wad of coupons that I had received in the mail. This review is about the lovely experience I had next. I want to make sure Unekka is recognized for going above an beyond helping me sort through a labyrinth of discounts, coupons and credits. I like this store for a number of reasons. I used to work for Long's Drug Stores. This CVS is a converted Long's and still has a bit of the same vibe that I loved. This review is about the pharmacy and overall how CVS's dated systems and inefficient processes delay care to patients. This specific CVS has been doubly troubled after rite aid was acquired by CVS. There are so many meds all over the backroom because they cannot address the needs of Montclair. As a result the lines are long and full of challenges that cannot be addressed quickly. During many rounds of unnecessary confusion (e.g., questioning insurance card, hesitating to fill a prescription because of their systems, asking me to pay full amount for meds), I was able to pick up my prescription. It took 45 min and opted out of speaking with pharmacist as I needed to get out of the small space. I switched from CVS to a mail subscription and will not go back. While I found a solution for myself, I feel bad for the Montclair community left without choices. read more

All CVS employees I've encountered have been polite and try to be helpful. The problem seems to be the corporate set-up. The CVS website simply doesn't work, and in many ways. The button to refill doesn't work. A widget to message the pharmacy online doesn't work. Meanwhile, once you manage to communicate to the pharmacy and they refill your prescription, put plenty of money in your parking meter because you will wait 15-20 minutes in line to get your pills. This is true at several locations I've tried. The pharmacies are packed with employees working in extremely crowded conditions at full tilt. They just seem to be overwhelmed with the amount of prescriptions to be filled, the cramped working areas, and the complex systems used for processing the prescriptions. I think I will go back to Wallgreens where it was a tad easier but suspect that these problems are endemic to our health care system. More people living longer and longer, using more and more medications and a dysfunctional, byzantine structure of insurance requirements. read more

Dear Patty L, We have never refused to fill your medication - as long as you have an Rx on file, you always have the option to fill that medication (out-of-pocket). However, we have been unable to fill certain medications under your insurance due to your plan requiring prior authorization - in these situations, you'll have to contact your prescribing doctors office and request them to contact your insurance to initiate prior authorization. If your insurance decides to approve the medication, then we should be able to fill your medicine with your insurance. As far as me being rude, disrespectful, and antisemitic- I have no idea where you got that from. I am accepting of all people, religions, backgrounds, cultures, races, etc. I do not make you wait longer than other customers. However, when you come to pick up your medications and we have nothing in-process or ready, it's a very long and drawn out conversation of accusations about how we are refusing to provide you medicines (among other erroneous accusations). When we ask you to move to the drop-off window to look into your profile to help (and respect the other customers time by keeping the line moving), you refuse. We are genuinely trying to help you, but sometimes it seems like you do not listen to us. I'm sorry for the miscommunication in the past. I usually get my prescriptions at Rite-Aid across that street. Unfortunately, they did not have the prescription so it was forwarded to this pharmacy. I thought things might have changed, but "No!". Horrible customer service, worst I have ever encountered. They do not know how to speak to customers and don't care about how customers feel. Update: after calling again today and getting more I acknowledged phone calls I email the Chief Customer Officer her email is Michelle.Peluso@CVShealth.com. I received an email from the executive team and then a call from a district manager. This store has issues and they are working through them. It doesn't appear leadership is very good here and they tell me changed are being made. The gentleman I spoke with gave me all the information I needed on my vaccine. I do appreciate their calls and emails. Let's see if changes happen! If I could give negative stars I would. Tonight I tried to call the Pharmacy to check on a vaccine I had. It appears it was never sent to Kaiser who is my medical provider. I called and the system transfers me right to Q. After about 10 mins no one answers not to even say please hold. After 30 mins same thing after 45 mins (I kid you not) still nothing. I call back and ask to speak to a front line customer service person and this women tells me this is an ongoing issue with the pharmacy and they don't feel they need to answer the phone. Wtf? She tells me you can come in the store and speak with them? I told her I'm a little far away and what if I was a senior who needed something and I told "I can transfer you back to the Q". She did I waited another 30 mins and same thing. Not one time did someone answer the phone and say please hold we are busy or short staffed. I asked to chat with a manager an no one was on duty. Great store here. It seems so well run. Absolutely the worst customer service ever. How shameful. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Worst pharmacy experience in history. Understaffed, ceiling falling in, taking phone calls before in-person customers, long lines, shortened hours, dirty floors. The hours online say open til 7 on Saturdays. once you get there, there's a sign in the store that says "our new hours" and they're only open til 6. Here's a helpful hint: posting the hours inside doesn't help anybody. There were two guys still there, and I asked them to please sell me a prescription that was ready, and they suggested I go to Walnut Creek, where the prescription wasn't even called in. so obviously, we are not dealing with MENSA members here. But still, why don't you try just going a little bit overboard as part of Customer Service? just absolutely pathetic. read more

Booked a Covid booster vaccination a couple days ahead of time. When I got to the pharmacy I let the staff know I was there for my Covid booster appointment. A shorter gentleman wearing glasses in the back asked what type of vaccination I needed and I calmly repeated that it was for a Covid booster. He then said they had no Covid shots and asked if there was another vaccination I needed. Confused I asked again if I was in the right place and if it was the Covid booster they were out of. He aggressively stated they were out of boosters. I didn't understand why I had an appointment if they didn't have the vaccine. But his tone shift was very odd and aggressive. Then a taller male or woman(couldn't tell with the mask on) with longer black hair stormed to the front of the desk and shouted at me, saying I had already been told three times they were out of the Covid boosters and asked what my problem was. I was even more confused now because I had been calm and was just trying to figure out if I was in the right place since my appointment hadn't been canceled. I told her/him I didn't have a problem until they stormed up to me yelling. This second aggressive person actually kicked me out because said they were being A***holes to me. I left feeling upset and angered, that seemingly out of nowhere the staff was hyper aggressive. 10 minutes later I received an email cancellation for my appointment, where I will be leaving a review after this yelp one. I can only imagine they must have had someone earlier in the day getting angry at them for not having the vaccine, because I can't imagine why they would be on edge and so aggressive with me. I had no issue with them not having the vaccine, I was calmly just trying to understand if I was in the right place, I'm visiting from out of town. I will never go back there and I will ask that my friends and family that live in the area boycott this cvs store. All they had to do was calmly explain that I was in the right place but the Covid booster I had scheduled an appointment for had run out, and that they could not fulfill my appointment. If you're looking for a pharmacy that's completely unreliable, this CVS on Mountain Blvd is the place for you. In my experience, they fail to refill prescriptions on time, fail to transfer prescriptions in or out of their location, and NEVER call me back when they promise to do so. And if you think that's bad, just try getting them to answer the phone - it's a hopeless cause. I've had to deal with CVS on multiple occasions, and each time has been an absolute nightmare. Their lack of professionalism and basic customer service is simply unacceptable. I cannot fathom how a business that's supposed to be providing healthcare services can be so negligent and unresponsive. If you value your health and your time, do yourself a favor and steer clear of CVS. There are plenty of other pharmacies out there that will actually take care of you and your needs. I honestly think this pharmacy must work hard to be as difficult and profoundly unhelpful as they are. The last time I was in town, the pharmacist here claimed that they could not refill my prescription because it had already been filled over in Tiburon - so I raced over to Tiburon (as much as one can "race" in traffic that took an hour), only to be told that the pharmacist got the store number wrong and, in fact, the prescription had been filled in my hometown in So.Cal. An evening wasted, and I still didn't have the prescription that I needed. I just called today to confirm that they had this same drug before traveling up, so that I could have my doctor call it into the pharmacy and avoid this same problem - and they refused to tell me, citing "policy" (despite the fact that they told me before, in person, where to find my drugs and despite the fact that two CVS stores in So.Cal. had already told me whether they did or did not have the drug that I need). The service is slow and just... bad, in my opinion. I will not contact or (try to) use them again. read more

I am a physician and my family have used this store - I as a prescriber, my family as customers. No More. I have called in prescriptions that were not filled despite receiving messages that they were ready. My family have received messages that Rx's were ready to be told they were at a different store. When I spoke to the pharmacist, his comment was "this store is a mess". He advised I call 'corporate'. The staff are generally rude and seem to think the chaos is amusing. Worst CVS pharmacy ever. I've had a few irksome situations in the past but recently my prescription was not delivered --- supposedly "left with individual" --- but I never received it. I called the pharmacy (was put on hold for a looooong time) and was first told by the manager that they were not responsible once a prescription left their hands. What? The end user is never the one obligated to follow up on a lost package or eat the cost for a replacement. The manager grudgingly said she would call the doctor's office and insurance company. She sounded so put upon, though, isn't this part of the job??? My prescription was lost and I need it, but I felt no sympathy or even a little remorse from CVS as a client/patient. Instead, I got a manager who was rude, condescending, and had no clue of good customer service. Sad. Will go to another pharmacy. read more

I understand being understaffed, so I try to take that into account. When they say they're behind, they don't mean a few hours behind, they mean a week behind in re-filling prescriptions. My insurance approved my refill a week ago or more, so I showed up at the pharmacy on Mountain Boulevard today. I was told that they were behind. They had what I needed but had not filled it yet. They stated that they would fill it in 10 minutes and call out my name. Meanwhile, I saw a couple other people show up, check in and get told the same thing. Within five or 10 minutes, these other customers' names were called and they were able to get their refills. After 25 minutes, I let them know that it had been 25 minutes and that I had to leave. There was no customer service, and the response I received was "OK". This was on January 12, arrival 4:48 PM. My plan is to try to move all of my prescriptions out of this pharmacy and use my insurance company's mail order service instead. read more

I really appreciate that the pharmacist and the team have consistently demonstrated empathy and kindness, and tried to help whenever they can. They are not a robot taking orders but you can see they truly care. When the doctor was late to give them the info they still gave us the meds for a couple of days until the full confirmation came from the doctor so we don't miss doses. read more

This is for the pharmacy, deserving of zero stars. I dropped off two new scripts yesterday3/29/22)after standing in a miserable line. Then the gentleman behind the counter took my scripts, entered my goodRX info and told me to come back tomorrow(3/30/2022) After standing in yet another wretched line today, I get to the front and am told these drugs aren't on my drug profile. I explain they were dropped off yesterday. first the young women says she thought they weren't allowed to accept paper scripts anymore and starts to look for them. She gets the pharmacy tech, some blonde boy to come out, look me in the eye and tell me that he called the doctor and they were not to be filled. These are not controlled drugs and guess what, I work for the doctor's office and NO ONE called. He awkwardly offers me back my paper scripts, after nonchalantly putting a sticker over the labels that were previously created and stuck onto the back of said paper RX. Truly an abysmal encounter.
