I've used CVS pharmacies in Virginia, North Carolina, California, Hawaii; this specific location is incredibly unhelpful. Put in my prescription online, said it will be ready by 10am. Showed up at 12:30, pharmacy says they haven't started it and will do so now, it should be 10-15 minutes. Ugh, only so much time on my lunch break. Then the lady says, "Oh, I didn't realize the pharmacist is going to lunch, so it will be about an hour. Will you wait?" Seriously!?! This place is such a joke. I'll never get a prescription filled here again. Full blown incompetence. On my way home from hospital with a 3 day old and a wife that's had a cesarean in the car. My order was called in 4 hours ago from hospital and now I still have been waiting for an hour for pain meds with my wife in pain and newborn in car on her first car ride ever. Meanwhile 5 employees at the pharmacy alone? Give me a break.!! I would of hung out at the hospital for another hour or two if I knew this was the crappy deal. This CVS is small, old, needs to be redone, and isn't stocked well. In addition, when I was there today with a coworker, the teller was unable to use her simple coupon--and proceeded to accuse my coworker of doing things wrong. The customer service was pretty bad. Contempt for customers is shown in wait times, and in failure to meet normal expectations of their own brands' contents. They take a well trusted brand off the shelf and swap in "own cvs" versions featuring often wrong-unhealthy ingredients, even to my shock showing a total disrespect for baby products in such substitutions. The worst thing about the aptos one, aside from lines & employees who seem to hate their jobs, is that the store is physically so small that they get away in many cases with eliminating non-Cvs brands altogether. A prescription for my dog that usually costs around $30 at the vets was phoned in to them because the vet didn't have it in stock. CVS wanted $475 for the same thing. This is beyond disgusting, wouldn't trust that place for an aspirin. read more

I live in Rio Del Mar and find the CVS pharmacy very convenient and very pleasant. The pharmacy is professional and courteous and helpful. When a prescription is ready I get an automated call. When I go to pick up a prescription sometimes there is no line and sometimes I have to wait as others are also there before me. Such is life. Some of the complaints about this pharmacy and waiting in line are so unrealistic. We are all so spoiled these days...We should be grateful that we are able to have this excellent service in our neighborhood!! read more

I go here to pick up prescriptions and whatever else I might need that can be found in a convenient fashion, and not once have I ever had a problem with this CVS. Yes, it's extremely small, but that doesn't affect me since it has everything I need. The cashiers are fantastic; very cheery and helpful (especially Tom). The pharmacy is good enough, no complaints there either. This place does not deserve one - star reviews, as I feel like pharmacies are one of the most scrutinized businesses on Yelp for no particular reason. read more

This CVS is the slowest, most inept pharmacy you will ever want to visit. I actually switched from the CVS on Bay Avenue in Capitola because of its lack of service but this one is equally bad. They just cannot keep information straight and are continually getting things mixed up. I think it speaks to the corporation overall. This is my first negative Yelp review. Worst "sevice ever. Dropped off refill, said we'd pick it up the next day because our neighbor, told hers would be ready at 3:00 was still waiting for it at 4:00. Next day they had no record of drop off, and said the prescription didn't exist. When I politely pushed, she admitted that it had existed at another CVS, but had been cancelled. When I politely asked how or why that could happen, she said I would have to ask whoever cancelled it, but refused to call the other store or t let me talk to anyone else, there was nothing to be done, call your doctor (it was now Saturday). I came home and called the other CVS. They were very nice, found the prescription right away, and said it had been transferred and that wash why it was cancelled at her store. She volunteered to call the Rio Del Mar store. She straightened it out, but why wouldn't RDM even try to help? I always run into something at this pharmacy, but this was the worst. read more

Worst pharmacy ever! The people behind the counter seem incapable of handling the most mundane tasks. Picking up a med and there are 5 people in line behind me and one person manning the counter while 3 people try to figure out how to input insurance information. Seems the phone gets all the attention over here. At this point I'd rather go without my medication than wait any longer. read more

The worst Pharmacy ever!!! Incompetent-Inconsiderate & Rude CVS Staff! I was hung up on by the Pharmacy clerk "technician" & it took 2 Weeks for my prescription to be re-filled!!! Beware of scripted responses, lies & poor excuses such as... "The pharmacist is on the phone right now with your doctor" "I will have the pharmacist call you" "We are still waiting on the doctor" "Have you tried calling your doctor?" "We haven't received a fax" "Your doctor is supposed to call you for authorization" (?) The Pharmacy Manager 'Ebony' calls this 'Miscommunication'!!! stating "the situation has been rectified - I just signed off on your prescription" (after 2 Weeks)! Ebony finally called the doctor's office & got a "verbal" from the doctor stating "CVS has a problem with receiving faxes" (the doctor's office faxed the approval atleast 4x). Meanwhile, I'm a week late on taking my monthly prescription which has caused me pain & discomfort not to mention a lot of time, stress & frustration after numerous phone calls with CVS Pharmacy staff on a daily basis. *Ebony acknowledged that it would take at least a month for my system to return to normal as a result* There is no excuse for not doing your job CVS Pharmacy! I have had a very difficult time using the pharmacy recently and even the regular store here. THey used to have some friendly, helpful, caring pharmacy techs working here (2011-2012), but they all left by the end of last year. I don't blame them. The remaining people are not just incompetent but rude and seemingly intentionally unhelpful. I have shown up with prescriptions that are "not in stock" and had to practically interrogate the staff to get answers about what could be done and when I might expect to receive the medication, and what I could do in the future to avoid that situation. When mistakes have been made (and they're made often) there has been no apology for the inconvenience. When I've called on the phone to double check that my trip to the store will not be in vain, I have been treated rudely. When I've had questions about insurance policies, prices, and other important prescription issues I've been treated like my questions are dumb, like I'm wasting their time or should know these things already. I have been put on hold brusquely and without explanation when trying to get my questions answered only to have another person answer the phone saying, "Hi this is ---, how can I help you today?" There isn't really a good explanation for treating a customer this way. It's just been awful at this place and I'm so glad I've switched to a different pharmacy. Another problem is that the checkers are pretty spacey and careless as well. I had to wait for ten minutes while one checker handled an elderly person who had difficulty with her credit cards and the other checker took great pains to make sure the customer in front of me was able to get the exact size of candy bags for about twelve different bags of the same candy- even though he had brought up bag sizes he apparently didn't want to the check stand. Instead of telling him to find the bags he wanted to purchase and bring them back up, she made everyone wait while the two of them went to the candy shelf to pick out just what he needed. It was a joke. I had ONE item to buy, and the pharmacy had just refused to let me buy it there along with my prescriptions since they were backed up too. Apparently they have the right to refuse to let you purchase items other than medicine there; as I was snottily told, "It's just a courtesy." This is a great place for prescriptions! They are very personable with their clients. They know their customers by name and many times are getting prescriptions ready for you to pay for as soon as they see you. I have also bought nail polish and felt that the product was not very good. I was able to return it with no questions asked. It has a feel of a local pharmacy store with a chai store name. My husband and I get our Rx's here and have always been happy with them. Brian one of the pharmacists really goes the extra mile. My 4 yr old has needed medicine from time to time and he is always helpful with my OCD Mom questions. Only drawback with this pharmacy is its sometimes SUPER busy, but, its not always like that. read more

It's gotten progressively worse and worse- I live nearby so we keep returning out of convenience but they have given us the wrong prescription, the wrong dosage, and ALWAYS take forever to fill. Worst experiences I've ever had with a pharmacy. Chronically short of the prescribed item and never call the patient to let them know of the delay in filling the prescription. They've also made substitutions without consulting me. Employees are far more interested in socializing among themselves and with known customers then to wait on the frequently long line. This is a tiny store, not enough room to do much. They've always been pleasant to me, and it's clean. It used to be a small private pharmacy ; CVS wanted to take over a large chain pharmacy in the same town but that property went to Rite Aid. I think they're doing the best they can, they have greeting cards and the basics, you can get cough syrup and a lipstick and a prescription--it's certainly not a big store. read more

I've lived in Rio Del Mar for almost 20 years and have seen the CVS location change ownership many times. I prefer to give my business to local stores when I can. The CVS is excellent in front of the store, but the pharmacy is the complete opposite. After a number of years I got tired of the incompetence and switched most of my prescriptions to the Costco online pharmacy, which never makes a mistake. But always for immediate needs I am forced back to the Rio Del Mar CVS. A recent surgery has me picking up meds there again and I had hoped for improvement. But instead they have accomplished what I thought not possible, they got even worse. In a very short time they have actually lost/misplaced two prescriptions. In 10 years my doctor and his office always put through prescriptions without mishap to other pharmacies, but CVS has managed to create problems around each and every medication. They commonly call with a message saying my prescription is ready for pick up, but nothing is there for me when I arrive. My daughter lives in Walnut Creek and says her CVS never makes a mistake, so it must not be the whole CVS system. read more

HORRIBLE PHARMACY. The front end of the store customer service is excellent - helpful people offering assistance and good attitudes. The pharmacy is another story. Has REALLY gone downhill over the past year or so... No one pays attention to what they're doing and they have no regard for our time. Case in point, had gone out of my way to get notes on my file to NOT use a generic, etc. Notes ignored, several times, which would be really horrifying if I had a life-threatening cause with my medication vs. a discomfort issue. Now they open an hour later than the store, and RXs are never ready when promised/requested. If I had a dollar for every time I heard "not ready yet, can you come back later...?" or "Would you like to wait...?" to me and other customers while I waited in line, I'd buy the store and fire these tools. In one case, I said I'd have to come back, and the pharmacist said to me "That's OK!" as cheerfully as if she was saying "happy birthday" - NO, it's not OK, you buffoon. read more
