Truly have not experienced better vibes at any other coffee spot. I've had the vanilla oat latte, both hot and iced, and it was delicious. They use a rich organic syrup that isn't overly sweet or synthetic tasting. My husband also really enjoyed his iced americano--he said it was super citrusy and light. They also offered my toddler an "auggie-chino", some whole milk in the cutest little coffee cup. They also have the yummiest treats: breakfast tacos and baked goods! The tacos are only on flour but all of the baked goods are gluten free and from a local bakery, Maaribu. They even have a gf vegan bar--blueberry crumble--and I had to double check it was gf/v because it was so dang good. There is a picnic table but not much shade due to a very pesky umbrella. Third Coast has become my 'daily driver' for espresso, as their beans offer the best combination of quality, value, and service. El Guapo has been the top choice so far with classic caramel, chocolate notes and a nice syrupy mouthfeel. Every bag has been consistently-roasted and quick to dial-in. Third Coast has so far resisted the insane shrinkflation that has affected many coffee options. As a comparison, local roaster Greater Goods is nearly 2x more expensive, and Third Coast is better. This is the best value in high quality espresso in Austin...and maybe across the US. Highly-recommended!

But I tried my 3rd package of Little City coffee, (shipped from this address on their website) and though good coffee, it is simply not a dark enough roast for my espresso. I tried Messenger Espresso the first time, many months ago and was underwhelmed. The beans were just not dark enough, shiny enough nor oily enough for the sort of espresso shot I like to pull. They made perfectly passable drip coffee in a pour-over, but I am a 99% espresso guy. Recently I took advantage of a 20% discount and rapid delivery (next day! Arrived on Monday, ordered Sunday!) to try the two darkest roasts offered, Grackle and Republic. Again, passable drip coffees, but not able to produce the thick rich crema and distinctive oily mouthfeel and toasted flavor notes I was looking for. Great fast to the door delivery and good prices (though for a 12oz package, compare carefully) and as I noted, pretty good coffee, but I will return to the Italian espresso (occasionally mixed 75/25 with French Roast) from my usual roaster Anderson's to feed my Gaggia Classic Pro.

We learned about the different types and tastes of coffee at it's different stages. We were served many different brews from "defected" coffee beans up to some premium stuff so that we can get a taste for what good coffee should be like. Don't let the location fool you, when you walk into this warehouse looking shop, inside has some of the FINEST coffee you can buy. Joel's good buddies with all the best plantations and Brazil and prides himself on having first choice on all the BEST harvested coffees from these plantations. If you've had coffee at Spiderhouse, Uchi, Torchy's, and many other places around town, there's a good chance they're sources from Casa Brasil. Basically, if you like making coffee at home and not paying a premium for coffee at these shops/restaurants, you can order directly from Joel. They roast upon order so you definitely get the beans at it's freshest. The bags they come in are all hand-painted too. If you're not wanting to order from Joel or make a drive down south, you can find their coffee at your local Central Market. Bottom line, if you want the best quality coffee you can possibly find, go here.

It is the cutest little coffee shop with ample seating inside and out. There is street parking available, which was easy enough to find on a Tuesday morning and also a lot in the back. I was with my 2 kids so we ordered a sugar cookie, mango + pear smoothie, croissant (with ham, egg, and swiss cheese), and I got myself their seasonal speciality (blackberry matcha). Everything was so delicious! To no surprise, my kids scarfed down the cookie to which I can only assume was delicious. I did get to try a bite of the ham, egg, and swiss croissant and it was delicious. The croissant was perfectly flakey! The smoothie tasted super fresh. It was a coconut based iced latte. Extremely smooth, cream, and actual coconut strips in the coffee. The coffee is the star where they do a good job of balancing the flavors without being too sweet. If you have ever drank coffee and noticed a "clean" coffee kick, I felt this way from this drink. To me the coffee beans are roasted well and come of good quality. The wife ordered the guava matcha. Similiar response where the flavors are rich and smooth. Good balance with guava and matcha. Not chalky. Really balanced. Top 3 of the coffee/matcha places during our trip to Austin. I decided to try a seasonal drink, and ordered it at the counter with a couple customizations. I NEVER EVER EVER drink iced coffee, I don't like it, it would be a waste of money. When she called out my order and set it on the counter, it was an iced drink. Confused....I know for a fact I would never order an iced drink, so I explained to her that it was a mistake. She gently argued with me that I had said an iced drink. Very awkward, she insisted that I try it, but it was absolutely not something I could drink. She did not offer to remake it initially, and I didn't want to make a scene with people behind me in line, but I had just paid a lot of money for a drink that I did not order. I stood there waiting for her to do the right thing but she didn't. I then asked her to remake it. She was very hesitant to remake my drink, and was visibly annoyed by it. I think she felt very self-righteous in the fact that she thought she heard me order an ice drink when I know I did not. It was just a very rude vibe. I completely understand if it were my fault, and I left out a customization or wasn't clear with something, I am happy to own my mistakes and accept the coffee or pay to have it remade. As that would be my fault. But it was not. There are very few places to get good coffee in this part of town, and I really thought that I had found a cool little place that made great coffee. But if that's the kind of service that they are going to offer, I would rather just make coffee at home and skip it all together. I really don't think I will be back. If I am going to spend $10-$12 on a cup of coffee, it should at least be done correctly and then if a mistake is made, it should be corrected in a kind way. Everyone else who works here is awesome and I've never had a problem. I will miss the sourdough and honey as well. At the end of the day, I would be embarrassed if this was my front line employee.
