Very empty and affordable price. I get sat usually in 15 minutes. They do a good medium skin fade for the price. Definitely bring some kind of picture for the haircut because the haircut magazine seems to be old. While the shop was more on the empty side the Christine was very attentive and had good customer service. read more

I have short and thin hair, so it should be very simple, easy and quick to cut my hair. It takes the most 10 to 15 min, but the hair stylist was on the Phone the whole time while cutting my hair!!! So my back hair was uneven, the right side is longer than left side. She charge me $30. Try some place else if you can read more

I just realized I mistyped my stylist's name before, her name is Catherine and she is fantastic! Super fast and can do any haircut I need! read more

I don't write reviews but this time I have to. I know their prices are great compared to many places but TERRIBLE customer service. The guy Tanh or Tom (he uses different names) he got my hair wet, made me sit on the chair and then told me he can't cut my hair and that I should go to another place. I just showed him some examples of layered hair cuts for a minute. He was very rude and I was in shock after he got my hair wet and then told me he can't cut my hair. I think he is very moody and aggressive. He basically kicked me out. Like I couldn't believe. I've never seen anything like this. He cut my hair before. I went there because another friend of mine goes here because of their reasonable pricing but this was how he treated me on my second visit. This was 4-5 months ago. I couldn't even bring myself to write down this review. I felt terrible. You may get a cut or you may be kicked out just for showing how you want your hair to be cut. I'd suggest you to go to a different place where they treat you nicely. read more

This review has been long overdue... Ba has been cutting my hair and my families hair for 20 years! I've been going there for so long before Yelp came along that it never crossed mh mind to review them until today. When we started going there we only had two sons. We had our 3rd in 2000, so I think we started going there in 1999. It's not a fancy place, but it has served it's purpose well for us through two decades. We used to go get 4 haircuts at the same time, so we would have Tracy also. It goes without saying that if we were not happy w our haircuts, we could easily go elsewhere. Ba knows my hair well so I just sit down and chat. I just started w Ba, so stuck with her throughout. She is very 'smiley' and likes to laugh - she is always smiling and laughing. Maybe this is the secret to anti-aging or she discovered the fountain of youth, because she looks almost exactly like she did when i first started going there. It's almost uncanny. I wish i had a picture of her 20 years ago to show you. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the decor and pictures could use some renovation. They could maybe add a TV in the waiting area. The magazines are always very dates. It gets very busy on Weekends, so i recommend calling for an appointment. read more

Ive been going to them ever since I was a little kid and I've always had a good time going there, quick to do their job but very careful and proper. I always go to them if I Need a quick trim or in need of a haircut. they are very nice and considerate if u make an appointment with them. 9/10 for me. ^_^ read more

Reasonably priced haircuts. I recommend making an appointment. I arrived on a weekday right when they opened and there was already a line. Granted it was a Friday on a holiday weekend so maybe that was the reason. I asked the staff about their busiest times and they said its random and that is best to just make an appointment just in case. I've had my hair cut twice, each time by a different person. I showed them a picture and they replicated it pretty well. For men there is only one male hairstylist, Tom, but all of the staff can cut men's hair. The magazines are sometimes out dated so I would bring something to read while you're waiting. There's also a donut shop next door if you want to grab something to munch on before/after. read more

Tom is a wizard with the shears. I drive 20 minutes away just to have Tom work his magic. Never had a bad haircut here.....ever. Prices here are beyond reasonable for a quality cut. I, like most guys, would drive anywhere just to find a barber we can trust for a haircut as going to a new barber can cause great anxiety and possibly a panic attack. Thanks Tom for being consistent and great at what you do!!!!!! read more

Princess Thuy was so rude and not professional. I came there for a haircut/color service. The conversation was smooth until I: Oh, I think the root hair is not colored completely. (My hair was wet and look much lighter at the top compared to the rest). Thuy: It looks fine. You are not correct. I: (Quite) She styled my hair while drying. I: Please dry my hair only, do not style. With style I will not know if my hair both sides are even. Thuy: If you don't trust me don't come here next time. I: Sure. Do things your way. (My first time here to try your skill, princess) I: Can you make volume for the front top. Thuy: No. Your hair is like that. If you want, you can do it yourself. I stood up and told her: You are very difficult, extremely difficult. The first difficult hair stylist I've experienced in my life. Someone referred me there. To the courtesy of that person, I still gave her tip. She rejected it. That's the only thing I appreciated about. I did not argue with you, upset or raised my voice. NOT even a complain because it's me. However, I am not happy with your service. In fact, your behavior tells people where you are. Writing a fair review is my way. Also, you guys advertise old/low price almost half the current price on web and outside the store. This is not right. read more

This is the worst haircut I've ever had in my life. I got one of the guys, and he came really recommended and so I figured it was worth a shot. I myself am a licensed cosmetologist and so maybe I'm a little harsher in my reviews, but let's go ahead and review this place. 1. He did not give me any sort of consultation. Did not ask me what I wanted, and at the shampoo bowl did not use any conditioner at all, did not explain which shampoo he was using. When he brushed it out, he brushed from the roots to the ends, which is a big no no with someone who has long hair. It tears the hair out. 2. He cut my hair the absolute wrong way. The techniques he used are also a big no no in the industry. You cut vertical not horizontal, he cut so unprofessionally and it creates holes in the haircut. It was uneven because of this. I wanted bangs, and I didn't even get bangs at all. I wanted to keep length, and he cut it to my shoulders all while promising me he could keep it long. I have a mullet now. My entire thickness is gone, and it's extremely thin, emaciated. 3. He TORE OUT MY GREYS like he was pulling up weeds. Also a big no no. Literally, tore them out by the root. Pulled them out. I love my greys, and he did not ask me if I wanted to keep them and you DO NOT EVER pull a clients hair out like that. 4. He used no heat protectant when blowdrying and it fried my ends that were just freshly cut. You could get better haircuts in a Russian prison. read more

I've been going to Ba for a number of years for hair color, cut and style and time and time again Ba does an excellent job. She is excellent at color matching. The salon is nondescipt and the experience of the hair stylists and pricing are excellent. Highly recommend. Angela read more

I've been here three times and I love it! Where can you get a precision, stylish cut nowadays.. for $12? This place may not be for everybody, but if you're looking for no-frills, clean, cash-only facility, this is it! I always ask for Tracy and she always does a great job. She always asks first what length I want, how much to cut, and how do I like my bangs? This time, I showed her a picture of what I like from one of the books that they have and walla!! I got what I wanted! Of course I know that I my haircut is not as good as the picture, and it won't be exactly that a few days later, but I know that I can take care of it when I leave the salon. Low-maintenance haircuts work best for me, so I was happy. The only thing I would say is, the place gets pretty busy, so making an appointment is better, because they accommodate you first. As long as you wouldn't mind waiting for a few minutes if you're walking in, then this is the best value and quality for a haircut in San Diego. If you don't like spending $50-100 for your haircut, try this place once and see for yourself! read more

Been going here for the past year since one of my best friends told me about Tom. Dude is great and can cut men's hair ! I have a weird head and I seem to always have a hard time getting the right cut especially being a veteran. People always somehow end up with a high and tight even when I show a picture of the cut I want. Went thru 20 people (men And women) before finally trying his service last yeAr. He definitely gets a lot of appointments now, but it's worth the wait for me. I feel like he's the only consistent person in all of San Diego to cut my hair. read more

Cutting Image - Tom's work. Had an interview and he cleaned my hair up real nice! - Hair Salons Near Me - San Diego, California

Tom is a very skillful barber but the problem is his co worker women, who seems not getting as many customers as Tom because most likely she is not as skilled but now I understand another reason. She is rude and seems unhappy that she has to help her coworker Tom's appointment while she is not getting any customers. I visited there to make an appointment with Tom and then wanted to change it to another time. Tom was busy and this Asian lady had to help. Surprisingly she sighed and showed immediate frustration and was very reluctant to help me. She was rude and often stopped what I am trying to say/asking. Extremely unpleasant and unprofessional. No wonder she got no customers while her colleague has a ton. read more

You cant say that no one warned you... lol Not sure of the name who cut my hair but I can't believe she has a cosmetology license (or does she?). I say this because.. 1) I asked her to only dye my roots to a shade darker (medium brown) than the rest of my hair to achieve a more ombré look 2) I asked for a few layers The result? I had almost black hair all over, many layers which I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't so asymmetrical. I pointed out the dark hair and the obvious (1inch, no exaggeration) difference from my left to right and asked for a redo or discount. And she insisted it was fine, said no discount and rushed to the next client. Now I have to go to another salon to fix the blunt, mishap of a haircut. read more

On my quest to find an "affordable" hair salon, I came across reviews for Cutting image on yelp. I really can't see myself spending $35+ (plus tip) on haircuts, especially in this economy. I still believe that I can find bargains for comparably expensive products or services. Eh, maybe i'm delusional but it doesn't hurt to save a few bucks. I got my hair cut by Ba, they squeezed me in right before closing. Phew! I asked for layers and side swept bangs. Layers were not bad, but I think she thinned out my hair too much (I have thick hair so 95% of salons I go to LOVEE thinning out my hair). I made a mistake asking her to cut my bangs though, but it's no biggie - i'll just grow them out and cut them myself. I find that only 2 hairdressers I've been to over my life have actually cut my bangs to my liking, so I didn't expect much from her. Cut was $14, before tip - LOVE the price! No shampoo included, but I've no problem doing that at home myself :] Would come back for basic layers, but not for a hair style change. read more

Horrible experience. Do not get your hair cut by tracy. She was texting while cutting my hair and sometimes would step away for five mins just to text. i wanted a simple trim. my previous style was short and asymmetrical on purpose and now that i want to grow out my hair i just wanted the two sides to be even again. While she did make my hair even, she also decided to layer my hair. which i explicitly did not ask for. while she was cutting my hair she spun me around so that i could not see the mirror so i wasnt really sure what was going on. i have heard people with decent experience with thanh but the lack of quality and service consistency makes this place a risky place to get your hair cut. read more

I came in today for a haircut around 12:30pm and the place was totally empty. There wasn't someone at the front table, but there was a sign-in sheet so I added myself onto it. I looked around and saw that all three ladies were in the corner eating lunch, and they said that I had to wait a few minutes. So I sat down and waited in the waiting area, but a few minutes turned into 15 minutes. They all took their time chatting and eating away while I waited and played on my phone. Finally, one of the ladies finished and started to cut my hair. She did a good job and gave me a few pointers on how to style my new layers. She took the time to layer, thin out, and blow dry my hair - which came out to be $17. Not sure if I'll be coming here again due to the poor customer service, but the haircut came out fine. read more

I'm the type of girl that gets up in the morning, takes a shower, combs my hair, and then rolls into work. I believe in maximizing my sleep. I look presentable and cute, but it's obvious that I didn't spend hours in front of the mirror in the morning extending my eyelashes. Cutting Image is a perfect place for me. I don't believe in paying over $30 for a haircut. I've been to a couple of $60-$80 places before , and quite frankly saw no difference between those haircuts and $20-$30 places. The difference is in the treatment -- an expensive stylist will talk to you and make you feel pampered. The cheaper places will be silent or talk to the other stylist. But seriously, if I wanted to have someone to talk to I'd call up a friend or covince my PPO to cover therapy so that I only have to pay $10 / hr for a person to hear me ramble. I got a good haircut for $12. TWELVE DOLLARS. My stylist made some suggestions, some of which I took. They're not very rigorous about getting all your little bits of hair off you afterwards, but whatever, the cut is good. I am totally returning here. I live 20 miles away and even after taking into account gas, this place is still cheap. (Also, there are a bunch of Vietnamese stores nearby to check out and eat). This is sooo much better than Supercuts because the stylists there are there to stay -- so you know they're going to give you a good haircut to get your return business. read more

Excellent place to get a men's haircut. I've been going here for quite a while now. I had other places cut my hair and have had many bad experiences with them. I don't change hair styles and that is the thing I am particular with. The last places I went to were inconsistent even after describing and showing a picture of how my haircut to be like. One place (which I won't mention) cut my hair in a military style even after I specifically told what I wanted. I know San Diego is a military town but everybody doesn't work in the military, you know. Now even if I live up in North County I drive down to Mira Mesa just to get the best cut I've ever had. Also, even if my regular person is not there that day anyone on duty get exactly the same cut because they listen and communicate well with the client. read more

First of all: FOURTEEN DOLLARS FOR A HAIRCUT!!! Secondly, they don't try to sell you their products or any other services. (None of those "You should try this blah blah blah hair sparkling oil serum for $200!") You don't want your eyebrows waxed today? Sure that's fine. End of conversation. None of those annoying pop music blaring from the radio either. Thirdly, they don't try to get all pc about your business. I really hate having hair dressers who go about asking about my mom, my grandma, my grandma's dog, my grandma's dog's pet sitter etc. Small talk is fine, but these ladies at Cutting Image sure don't pry. I've only gotten some basic trims from this place, so I can't really attest for their other services. If you're ever in need of a quick and easy hair cut, Cutting Image is your place. Oh this place accepts cash only. read more

I'm a broke grad student. No matter what anybody says, I simply can't part with $50+ for a simple hair cut. As a matter of fact, the last time I put down that much money on a salon visit, I came out with the worst haircut I've ever had in my life (can we say Asian mullet?). With this in mind, I decided to visit Cutting Image, a small barber shop located behind the Mr. Wasabi on Mira Mesa with a prominently displayed "Haircuts: $12" in the window. Much to my surprise, I came out with a cute bob for under $16 (with tip) that was much better than what you can even expect at Supercuts for $20. Thuy was the stylist who cut my hair, and she managed to replicate the photos I brought in for her pretty well. I wouldn't come here to try out that hot new hairstyle that all the fashion mags are saying are the rage, but they do a pretty decent job cutting and maintaining relatively safe hairstyles. Customer service is curt and leaves something to be desired, but for $16, what can you expect? read more

Cheap, affordable, fast. CASH ONLY $12 hair cuts plus tip The male stylist there (the only one) is the best. He doesn't work everyday though. It's in a nondescript location, outside of a small group of stores located in Oak Tree Plaza. Their store is facing Mira Mesa Boulevard directly across from a Jack-in-the-Box, so you should park in the east parking lot. I'm going through all the trouble to tell you where it is because I don't want you to give up trying to find it. (It's a little frustrating walking around on a hot day trying to find the storefront) Before I start with everything I want to let you know they only take cash or personal check. That being said, my husband loves this place! It only cost him $12 to get his haircut and the guy there (Thanh) does a very nice job. He really makes sure to get the sides even. Hubby has never had to to go back and get it fixed since he's been coming here as opposed to when he used to go to those chain stores when he would constantly come home dissatisfied and disappointed. In addition to paying double sometimes triple the price. Not anymore friends.......he's found "Thanh" his forever hair cutter man!!! read more

Needed a haircut and wanted to go on a mission for a under $20 haircut. Just a lil belt tightening~ Figured the last haircut I had before wasn't really my thing. Wasn't too stoked when I got it orginally. By damn Sure wasn't going to pay her prices and not again.. Cannot beeeelivvve how much I paid for my last 3 haircuts and compared to what Thuy busted out this evening for $14! It was super efficent, she checked out the pics and then worked with my existing blah style to make my huge cwavy mess into a sleek look that works with my no-effort styling habits. Can't change me now, I'll never get up early to style it and no stylist ever reaally got that, until NOW, and then a blowdry style on top??? WTF, I wasn't expecting this at all, not for the $14 price. Think I'm in love.. So this place isn't the most glamourous in terms of decor, but who the hell cares, it's a $14 haircut! Thuy is certainly my new fav and the other woman stylist there was very polite. Not a much of talkers other than your haircut but I think my last stylists were too busy talking during the service-Why else would I have been in the past salons for over 2hrs?? I like the get er done and customer service provided and for a great price- What more can you ask for? I saw a sign that said no ATM/ debit cards but they take personal checks. About 4 days ago I already had my hair cut from another salon, and didn't like how it turned out. I wanted to fix it, but the people I normally go to are either gone or just too expensive so I looked around on Yelp for a good affordable place. Lo and behold, I came across Cutting Edge. The reviews were all good, so I tried 'em out. First of all, while this might not appeal to other people, I loved the fact that it was just a walk-in, sit down and wait your turn kind of place, not the fancy schmancy place where you have to wait days for your appointment. The nice lady (I wish I got her name) called me, asked what I wanted, and went on to do it. Less than 10 minutes later, I had a fabulous cut that I knew would look good days after the salon visit because there was no shampooing/blowdrying involved at all. She fixed the blunt edges from my previous hair cut and even added a nice texture to my hair. The best part? $12 + $2 tip! read more

Visited this place a while back because I wanted to get some bangs and a simple hair cut. The lady I approached looked at me and said bangs would not be a good fit and it would be too much work to fix them everyday. I ended up not getting anything because I was annoyed by her statement. My boyfriend did get his haircut, they convinced him to get a simple military haircut and even that they messed up by doing a very fast job and saying that she had to be somewhere uy. Neither he or I liked his haircut. It is cheap but all I have to say is that at this place you really do get what you pay for. read more

We would have to wait 30 minutes after our scheduled appointments. So we stopped going. read more

TERRIBLY SHAMEFUL SERVICE!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! DON'T COME HERE...ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE AFRICAN-AMERICAN/ETHNIC HAIR BECAUSE THEY "DON'T CUT [MY] TYPE OF PEOPLE'S KINKY HAIR"!!! I created a Yelp account just to write a review about this place! I am a female who has long African-American 4b-type hair that is mid-back length. I had blow-dried and pressed my hair the night before, so it was shiny and sleek-straight the day I visited this salon. I walked in and asked one of the hairstylists if they accept walk-ins for a hair trim. I was told yes, but they "don't cut [MY] TYPE OF PEOPLE'S KINKY HAIR" and to "GO TO A BLACK HAIR SALON SOMEWHERE DOWN THE FREEWAY". I was desperate to have my hair trimmed for an upcoming event, so I continued to beg them to trim it. I explained I did not want it styled in any way other than a quick trim with their scissors because I cannot see the back of my head to be able to cut it evenly myself. I am very upset! I understand their reservations due to a lack of experience with "my people's kinky hair" if I had walked in with my hair not straightened. HOWEVER, MY HAIR DURING MY VISIT TO THE SALON WAS AS STRAIGHT AND OF SIMILAR TEXTURE AS AN ORDINARY CAUCASIAN WOMAN'S HAIR! Most of their customers were of Caucasian descent during the time of my visit, and I stood there totally confused, just trying to understand what the difference could be in cutting my currently straight hair vs a Caucasian's straight hair! :( This salon calls themselves "the professional hair care" on their business card, but a professional with a license should be able TO AT LEAST TRIM (not even asking to cut & style) ALL TYPES OF HAIR!!! I have never been denied service due to "[MY] TYPE OF PEOPLE'S KINKY HAIR" at typically non-African-American salons such as ULTA and DETOUR, among many others. I will be sure to never come back to this "professional hair care" salon! read more

Ba is the best. She is asian so she knows how to asian your hair. At $12 + $2 for a men's haircut, I'm a regular for years. Yes there are people who complain they felt a non customer service vibe here. To be honest, all of the staff, ainglish ain't their mommy's tongue. Cut them some slack. They are professional and they do a good job. And stop coming at lunch hours and bitch about your 15 minutes wait. Barbering is hard work, let them eat and then they can get it on to you. I've been to salons where they charge you major cash and on top of that you need to make appointments and they still make you wait. So take a chillax pill when you are at cutting image. Oh, never mind, i shouldn't praise Ba and her friends so much, talk about shooting myself in the foot, if my review brings them more customers, maybe then I will have to wait longer and then I'll have to follow with a scathing update...hahahaha..jk. read more

They give 4-star haircuts (for the price), but today they have royally fucked up my eyebrows! One brow is smaller than the other, and they are both pretty small... obviously overdone. The thing going for this place is their prices. Haircut was only ~$12 for long hair and eyebrow wax $7. I'd come here for eyebrow waxes, but wouldn't come again for a haircut. i've had the pleasure of coming here twice to get my hairy underarms waxed. I was literally in&out of there in 12.5 minutes flat. It took me longer to find parking in that mega-mini mall than it did to get my pits waxed. the lady even took the time to pluck all the stragling hairs. my waxed pits would have made a bald man look like he needed a haircut. i was tired of paying $50 for a hair cut when half the time i leave the salon feeling 'meh' so i decided that i would rather risk having that feeling if i was paying $20 or less. i was specifically looking for a place that cuts asian hair. after looking on yelp, i decided to make an appointment with the male stylist. i walk in, there are only 2 people working, both asian, and i'm the first customer. he wets my hair, asks me how short i want it (5 inches off), if i want layers (a little) and proceeds to cut. given that i was paying $14, i expected him to spend like 15 minutes, but he ended up spending around 35 minutes and asked me how i liked it along the way. his English is not perfect, but i was certainly able to communicate what i wanted to him. he trims my side bangs and proceeds to blow dry my hair. afterwards he rings me up on the cash register and i have to ask him where to put the tip. by the time i was done, there were a few people waiting for a cut. will definitely be coming back here for all my cuts. read more
