Ok I read many review before I decided to hire Mr David. The guy is a very hardworking one, but, he chases many jobs at the same time. If you want your job to be done, only pay 1/3 of the agreed amount, and NO MATTER WHAT HE TELLS YOU, UNLESS THE JOB IS COMPLETELY DONE, DONT GINE HIM ANY DIME. He will start your job and disapear to start others contract . As long as you keep his money he will come back to get the job done. This is how I dealed with him. Also make sure you are always around as he do the job because he will break stuff and try to hide them. If you can handle all of this, then hire him. read more

The other day, Mr. Jones, proprietor of Cutting Edge, called my 88-yr-old uncle to ask HIM to request that I remove my previous posts about his company's services here on Yelp. Said it's "hurting his business". Mr. Jones was in possession of MY phone number, but never contacted me directly, yet could have. I refuse to delete or amend any comments or photos which I'd posted about his services to us. I think they speak for themselves, and that is what is so great about Yelp. Come to think of it, he certainly could've replied to my postings, but hasn't. In summary, his crew did return to finish off the job, yet left all of the tree shavings all over the backyard, and, in addition, had caused damage to the neighbor's fence, and house eaves, which we are paying $600. to have repaired. I used Cutting Edge back in summer 2014 and finally got the job finished today (Dec 23, 2016) by another company. I was recommended to use his company because he is a family friend of my cousin, however I could never recommend Cutting Edge to another regardless of how nice his family is. David over-promises and under-delivers. He hit and damaged my neighbor's tree and never said anything about it. He broke my fence getting into the back yard, and it took him half a year to get back out with his stump grinder to MOSTLY finish the job, but only because I had my cousin CALL HIS MOTHER. He ended up coming out at night in late fall, after dark, and grinding stumps blind, making all sorts of irritating noise in the late evening. Before he began, my husband showed him which stump he still needed to grind with a flashlight, and yet he still missed three in the back yard (two dogwood and one large oak stump), and he only half-ground down the large pine tree in the back yard and left an enormous pile of pine mulch - over 3 feet high and 7' feet in diameter. So much debris that he couldn't tell that a large portion of the stump remained. And he left a hellacious mess, with pine stump all over my yard, my ROOF, and clear to the road in front of my house. Looked like someone set off a bomb in my backyard. He was sweet and professional at first, and after weeks and then months of hounding him, he was reduced to his true form of a rude little liar. I finally could afford to finish the job, and we hired Sweat Bros, who did an amazing and professional job. They knew exactly which company left me like this without me even saying who it was because they've cleaned up so much of David's dirty dealings. read more

We hired them to cut our tree down which they did. They told us they would come back to get the brush which they did not. We have called multiple times and they keep ignoring our call. We should have paid half until they came back!! Our mistake! Also way to expensive to get a small tree taken down... I do not recommend this company! read more

Cutting Edge Tree Service did extensive work for me twice. The first time was acceptable, but their second visit was such an unmitigated disaster that I can only give them one star and a firm warning to others to steer clear of this company. During the most recent visit, we agreed on a price to extensively thin and trim two live oak trees. I left them a check for all work under my doormat, as we had agreed. BIG mistake. One live oak tree was only thinned on one side of the tree, leaving the tree very lopsided. The second live oak tree was such a mess I don't know where to begin. I asked that very large branches be trimmed, with the cut branches to be removed. After returning home that day, I almost immediately found huge sections of the branches "hidden" in a fairly wooded area of my yard near the tree. These branch sections weighed more than 100 pounds each and were too much for this 60-something woman to handle. I called the owner and insisted that he get back to my home and fix the damage. After being promised at least 5 times that the work would be done, I gave up. NEVER, EVER use this company. They have no ethics and have no concern about requesting $$$ upfront for a job that is never finished. read more

I did not have any of the problems described by other reviewers. We agreed on a price, they came when they said they would, and knocked out a bunch of jobs in just a few hours. Everything was done well and father and son were very professional and friendly. read more

On Novemeber 12th 2015, David, owner of this company did some tree work for us and, unfortunately damaged my neighbors dock bench, dock box and power pedestal. Also, one of his employees backed their truck into our concrete planter and broke it. He promised to come by and fix it and after 2 1/2 weeks nothing has been done. Obviously, this is a shady outfit and would not recommend their services to anyone at all. I also found out that his company does not have an updated current business license from the city of Norfolk to do business; so that should tell customers to beware of this company. read more

What started out as a 5 star service, quickly went downhill and fast. If you do not get all your work done in 1 day, you can forget them coming back to finish the rest. 3 weeks ago, I hired Cutting Edge Tree Service to cut down a tree in my front yard, remove the stump and clean up afterwards. Along with the tree, he said he would clean the gutters, and grind down a root that is pushing my walkway up. All this was agreed upon before any work had started. I was told they would be there at 8:30 am on June 26, 2015. They should up after 10 am. They did great work cutting down the tree and cleaning up. However the stump is still there and the gutters will now have to be cleaned out by me. The walkway still has a huge chunk of cement just laying in my yard because it was never taken care of and returned where it belonged. Also, my neighbor was so impressed with the work that was done up to that point, she was interested in his team to come and do some work in her yard. I took the day off of work, just in case anything was to happen.. And this is where I now call his business ethics into question.. Well.. it is now 3 weeks later, 6 phones call from me and 3 from my neighbor. The stump is still there and the gutters still filled (which i will clean out this afternoon in this crazy heat). Before even completing the work on my yard, Mr. Jones and his team were quick to run around the corner to another neighbor's house to start work on his yard. I was beyond upset. I have 6 phone calls in to Mr. Jones between the business # and his cell #. They have all resulted in the same answer "I will be out today or first thing in the morning". My neighbor has already moved in calling other vendors. She has even started asking for quotes for my stump as well. I am not sure why you would leave to go start another yard when you are not finished with the first one? I am really not sure what is going on, but I would expect honesty. If you are too busy, or you have overbooked your self that much, then fess up. I would respect honesty, other the crap I am receiving. Call if you aren't going to make it. Between my neighbor and I, we are just dumbfounded. I am looking to go to another vendor and send the bill to Mr. Jones, yes I have already paid for the service with Cutting Edge. I am starting to panic about someone tripping on my walkway due to the cement block being left in my grass. I would NOT recommend using this vendor for any of your house needs. Please call someone else and get everything in writing, prior to start of work. You will have better luck playing the lottery. :( I am disgusted it has elevated to this point. I am willing to give anyone a second chance, but 6!!! I thought the price was so fair, I did not even push for the military discount he offers. read more

If excuses were dollars, Mr. Jones of Cutting Edge would be a very wealthy man! We paid in full and did not get a completed job. After the removal of eight trees, they did not grind the stumps as agreed upon. This was not without MONTHS of calling and asking him to come and finish the job! Oh, he had excuses! No shortage of those! He also had repeated assurances of "first thing tomorrow morning." Still, he never showed up to finish the job for which he had been paid. As if that weren't enough...when he DID show up to remove the trees in the first place (which was not without excuses and delays), he destroyed the invisible fence system we had for our dog! We finally had to hire another company to remove the stumps that he left. Needless to say, not only would I NOT RECOMMEND this poor excuse for a business, I would issue an ALL OUT WARNING to all Hampton Roads residents to avoid this shady outfit at all costs! read more

I am completely surprised by the negative reviews of this company. Our experience with them today was completely the opposite. The employees were friendly, energetic and careful. They did everything we asked and their price was the most reasonable of any estimates we had been given. My in-laws were visiting and they were so impressed with their work that they asked for their business card for themselves. We would definitely recommend Cutting Edge and we would also use their service again ourselves. read more

I had the exact same experience. I was told by the owner that they didn't leave until the job was complete. They left my yard a huge mess. The owner promised us a few days in a row that he would be back on those days. He never showed up. He stopped answering texts / calls. I will be taking this to small claims court for a partial refund. I wished we had seen these reviews first. Every comment that is made by these reviewers is to the tee, what my wife and I have experienced. WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!!! read more

If you are reading this along with the other comments trust and believe what has been said. I am currently waiting for work to be completed by David Jones and his crew. On the first day of work there were issues with a truck and the crew had to wait for David for a few hours before work could be continued. Once they started cutting off limbs and cutting down tress I felt a little better. But, after 3 days of work and getting paid 1/2 of the money on a Friday work seemed to slow down.This is the second week that they have been on the job, but NOT REALLY on the job. I was told it would be done within 1 to 2 days. There has been excuse after excuse about equipment breaking, them being on their way to work, but not showing up to work or not working for long. THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I read all of the negative comments and positive comments posted. I choose to give them a try and hoped that I wouldn't have to add to negative comments, but here I am. Oh yeah, my neighbors fence was damaged. I have part of a fence down and cracked concrete and a messed up yard with logs still out front waiting to be picked up and logs in the back. All I want them to finish the job I was promised. Put the things taken down back up and fix the broken things and let me get my yard back. I'll post some pictures next. read more
