I never really leave reviews but this definitely deserves to be shared and heard on every review platform available because our experience with Phillips Family Tree Care was so above and beyond our expectations. My husband and I had 3 HUGE trees removed (stumps included) by Brendon and his team. Our lot, like many others around the Virginia Beach oceanfront area, is a tight fit with the house taking up the majority of the lot space. Two of the huge trees had their trunks literally a few feet from our house and were taller than our house that is 3 stories (I believe one was maybe an oak and the other was a sweetgum tree). To be honest, I wasn't sure anyone would be able to remove these trees safely and I spent weeks researching local tree companies and getting quotes so I could finally have a hurricane season without worrying about one of these trees plowing through a house or hurting someone. Brendon came out prior to the job and was by far the most professional and knowledgeable person I had met with. He took the time to explain our options without any sales pressure and his directness was a breath of fresh air after dealing with so many other (meh) companies and home remodeling contractors beforehand. Brendon was THE ONLY tree guy (out of the 6 other tree companies estimates prior) honest enough to mention that Dominion Power would be able to cut the majority of tree#3 in our front yard down FOR FREE because it was within range of a primary distribution power line...AND Brendon even handled calling Dominion to arrange the service for us AND THEN he even went as far as to offer to come back out to requote the job more accurately after Dominion did what they could to remove that tree. Before PFTC even did the job, I was already really impressed by Brendon's honesty and willingness to take such initiative off our hands...AND THEN IT GETS EVEN BETTER... the quotes he gave us, both before and after Dominion came out, were WAAAAAAAY lower than what the other 6 tree companies quoted us and PFTC was available to come out right away to do the job. Brendon and his team were so polite and professional throughout every step of our tree removal. If we ever need a tree removed again, I will definitely only trust Phillips Family Tree Care to do it. I'm not one to write reviews, but when folks are doing things right I have to let you know. From the first visit to quote the job to the moment the crew left after the job was done, Phillips Family Tree Care was professional. Their pricing was very competitive and they were able to get our tree removal service scheduled quickly. Everyone on the team was respectful of my property, my neighbors property, and our COVID concerns. We had 2 large pine trees removed from our front yard that bordered our neighbors yard. The crew removed both trees, ground the stumps, removed all tree debris and cleaned up in one visit; all before lunch time. They even worked through rain to complete the job. I highly recommend Phillips Family Tree Care and I will use them in the future. UPDATE: Our 2 trees that were removed sat in a mound of soil and mulch. After the previous services were completed, we began removing the mound so we could grade the yard. We quickly realized that the remaining stumps were still going to be a little too high, this due to the mound preventing the grinder to go any deeper. I called Brendon and explained the situation. Within a few days, he had a guy on site to grind the stumps again to make sure they were below grade. Once again, great customer service. Brendon came out an gave me a reasonable estimate on removing a large oak tree,grinding the stump and trimming several other trees. He seemed to give competent information and made several suggestions which seemed to come from a knowledgeable foundation. He sent me a written estimate to sign and after consulting several other companies decided to use Phillips and signed the estimate (which in my mind constituted a contract) and set a date for the service. On the appointed day, Brendon showed up with his crew and said that he didn't have his log truck and since it was going to rain the next day he didn't want to start the job and leave the logs on the yard. Seemed a little odd-but OK. Tried to get him to commit to the following week on Friday and he said he thought that would be OK. The next Wednesday I got an email stating that he had to do "triage" on other people's trees because we MIGHT get a tropical storm in the next week and he couldn't do my tree. That was the last I heard from him. Called multiple times with no answer or return call to me or my wife who called on another number. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We received 4 quotes from different tree companies to take 2 trees down that were affected by the recent storms including a quote from Phillips Family Tree Care. The quotes that I received had a $550 difference from highest to lowest and PTC was the lowest bid. When I contacted the other tree services to let them let them know that we were going with a different tree company and what their bid was, all but one of them reduced their bid to within $50 - $150 of PTC. To know that the other tree companies were price gouging us because we were in need was very disappointing. PTC quoted us a very fair price. Phillips Tree care was able to come three days ahead of schedule and communicated with us via texting to keep us in the loop as far as their scheduling went. The gentleman worked very fast and were extremely professional and easy to work with. We had them do some extra work on the property while they were there and they did a phenomenal job. During a windstorm, I noticed a 40ft tree in m back yard was lifting up out of the ground! I immediately searched for a reputable tree service and thankfully came across these professionals. I called and Brendon said he would be by shortly since he was already out assessing another property. 30 minutes later, he called and was on his way. He assessed the tree and said he and his crew could be out first thing the next morning. He also reassured me by letting me know that based on the way the tree grew and the root damage, if it came down due to the wind, it wouldn't be toward the house. Next morning, they showed up right on time and he and his crew got to work. They were kitted out with proper protective equipment, had good condition gear, and took care of the narrow space they had to take the tree out of between my house and wooden fence. After the tree was removed and the stump was ground, they raked and cleaned up the yard and the areas they had to traverse to get in and out. I highly recommend these pros! Don't hesitate. Brendan and his crew from Phillps Family Tree Care just finished the removal of FIVE large/tall trees from my backyard. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the job they did. They arrived at the scheduled time and were set up and cutting within the hour. They worked in a very professional manner and observed all safety practices. They left my backyard as tidy as might be expected, replacing the disturbed border stones, and removing all the sticks and twigs that this type of work generates. They were very respectful of my property, having laid a plywood path from my driveway to the immediate work areas. Additionally, their prices are the most reasonable in the area. We had a large pcean tree come down that took out our power line. Dominion Power disconnected line and told us to call abck when the tree was gone. We tried several different tree companies, some multiple times, and didn't get a response for days. I asked for an estimate here on Yelp and got a reply in about half an hour from Phillips. An hour later he was at the house and gave me a good estimate, which turned out to be $1000 less than the other company estimate. He and his crew came out and cut up the tree, removed the branches and came back later to take out the logs and clean up the yard. They did an excellent job, and he even was able to recommend a contractor to do the repair work on the house. Can't recommend Phillips highly enough! Great work and crew. read more

I thought a tree in my backyard was dead and needed to be removed. I contacted two tree services for a quote. I felt the first company was all about making money. Not Brendon, from Phillips Family Tree Care. He told me he was an arborist, which I found out was someone who is trained and educated to protect tree health and properly care for trees. He took great care in telling me what kind of tree it was (Mulberry), that it wasn't dead and only needed to be pruned. He is very knowledgeable, professional and honest. I saved a lot of money and saved a tree. Brendon and his crew came out when he said they would and did a FANTASTIC job. I was searching for a reliable tree service company to cut down two really large pine trees in my back yard very close to my house. After getting quotes and reading lots of reviews, I made the choice to hire Phillips Family Tree care. Brendon Phillips was very professional and so were the men working with him. They showed up on the appointed day. I watched them as they worked and they do earn every penny you pay them. They have some really up to date equipment that they use. I just had Brendon and his team here yesterday to remove and prune several trees. They were incredible!!! They did such a great job and my yard looks amazing. They even cleaned up afterward better than I could have imagined. They were all busy working from the moment they arrived and were so careful with everything. We called around for a few quotes on removing a tree from our backyard. Phillips Family Tree Care was the the most responsive and the most reasonably priced. They were professional, safe and quick! We were worried because it was a large tree on the border of our yard and our neighbor's. Phillips was so careful in trimming the branches so they didn't damage our neighbor's garage or our lawn. They were thorough in cleaning up after they were done. We also had them trim up some trees (allowing us to walk under while also maintaining privacy). They did an awesome job. We needed a huge pecan tree trimmed, badly, and they came out for a free estimate. They didn't BS me on the cost of a removal and the cost for trimming was incredibly reasonable, in my opinion. They came out a couple weeks later with a crew of three and were prompt, worked fast, and incredibly professional. They even removed another small tree for me for a small extra cost. Brendan and company did a wonderful job trimming my crêpe myrtles. Answer the phone on the first ring, offered to come the same day to give an estimate. Price was more than reasonable. Work was completed within an hour and a half on six trees, one being removed including stump grinding. All were pleasant and cleaned all areas prior to leaving. Highly recommend.
