Love my new canvases and John is an amazing man full of knowledge and he has two framing stores as well.

This is an excellent framing shop with great friendly staff…read more Very professional and good pricing. Only place I will trust with my work.

1-Star Review I…read moreregret to say this, but after three separate botched framing jobs, I am permanently done with Mitre & Bevel. The recurring problem is basic and inexcusable: they repeatedly cut rabbet openings too small for stretched canvases--cutting the opening to the exact outer dimensions of the canvas with no clearance, which is not proper framing practice. Any professional framer knows you must allow extra space (at least 1/8") so a canvas can actually fit into the frame. This happened three different times. Most recently, I ordered a custom 22" × 31" wood frame for an exhibition-bound painting. The Mitre & Bevel owner personally measured the canvas in front of me and wrote the dimensions down. When the frame was delivered, the canvas would not fit because the rabbet opening was cut exactly to the canvas size. Instead of taking responsibility, the framing manager, as well as the owner, insultingly blamed my canvas, claiming it "wasn't square." I have been stretching my own canvases for over 40 years and know how to square stretcher bars properly. Even if a canvas were slightly out of square, that is precisely why clearance is required in the first place. When I spoke directly with the owner, he again blamed my canvas and then stated--astonishingly--that they "shave the rabbets all the time because they're too small." That is not something to brag about. It is an admission of systematic poor workmanship. Shaving rabbets after the fact is a workaround, shows a lack of framing abilities and is not professional framing. I requested that the frame be re-cut properly rather than shaving the existing rabbet (which can lead to uneven depth, poor seating, and long-term issues). The owner refused and instead offered to refund my deposit rather than stand behind their work. At that point it was clear that Mitre & Bevel does not accept accountability, blames the customer and does not follow proper framing standards for stretched canvas. For comparison, I immediately took the same painting to Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center in Palm Desert, California, where I was treated professionally and with respect and my painting was framed immediately and correctly without issue--confirming that the canvas was never the problem. All in time for my important art exhibition. If you are a professional artist, collector, who values their artwork or anyone needing precise, exhibition-quality framing, I strongly recommend Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center in Palm Desert, California. After three times that Mitre & Bevel cut my frames too small for my paintings and after giving them three chances, I can only conclude that Mitre & Bevel does not respect their customers, know how to cut frames properly for stretched canvases, relies on excuses and after-the-fact short cut fixes to avoid their self induced financial losses due to framing incompetence, instead of correct workmanship. If you want to avoid poor quality picture framing, poor customer service and lack of accountability...by all means, stay clear of Mitre & Bevel.
