My wife and I recently moved to Lake County and needed someone to help us change the locks on 10 different doors. Each door had a different key and a few of the deadbolts were broken. We were very lucky to call Tom at Custom Lock and Safe. Tom was incredibly professional. He came to our home quickly, worked fast, completed everything we needed, and best of all, he was very reasonably priced! After completing all work, Tom walked us through usage of all the locks, told us how to lubricate some of the custom mechanisms, and gave us a few tips on ways to ensure our home is secure and safe. Thank you Tom! read more

Nice guy! I tried to rekey a lock myself and, of course, made a hash of it. I took my bag of parts to him and five minutes later he handed me back a working lock. He even complemented me on how far I had gotten. read more

Tom (owner/operator) is a professional. He was running early and texted to see if I was available which worked out for both of us. My family and I were moving into our new home and required all the locks changed- he did this quickly- adding upgrades and improvements where he found previously poor work. Tom understands the concept of value-add - he asked if I wanted him to reprogram the garage codes and did so for free. He also put us in touch with other local trades after he overheard me musing about a need for a home wiring solution. AND, knowing we were new in town, Tom gave us a few restaurant recommendations that only the locals knew about. We strongly recommend Tom's services. read more

Who saved the day today? Tom, the business owner of Custom Lock & Safe, did. I moved in a place with a bedroom lock using a twist button locking mechanism. The landlord didn't have the key for this old lock. While carrying heavy belongings within my place, I locked myself out of the bedroom. After trying to pick in vain this lock for two hours with five flathead screwdrivers, I called Custom Lock & Safe. I chose this business based on the outstanding Yelp reviews (5/5 rating from all Yelpers). Tom arrived within twenty minutes to my place and worked his magic in five minutes! Tom epitomized customer-orientation, professionalism, friendliness and honesty (guidance and fair price). I will recommend his services to everyone I know and will use his services again if needed. read more

I replaced my home's front door lock and handle. I couldn't get the deadbolt installed properly so I consulted yelp to find a good local locksmith. Custom Lock & Safe came up with all 5 star reviews so it was an obvious choice. I called Friday about 7 pm and Tom answered my call and after I explained my issue he said he'd come by after 3 pm Saturday. He texted me shortly after 3 pm the next day and said he'd be over shortly. He spent about a half hour and reinstalled the deadbolt properly so it worked seamlessly and reinstalled the handle that I hadn't fully attached. After paying him for the service call and a half hour labor he asked if I wanted my door to the garage to match the key to the front door and I happily said of course! He quickly changed the lock on the access door as promised and gave me two additional new keys and said no additional charge!! I would highly recommend Tom to anyone! Extraordinary awesome service. read more

Like others, I feel lucky to have come across Tom's page here. Tom has the magic combination of qualities you'd hope for in the best service providers - he was prompt, communicative, friendly, highly competent, and reasonably priced... but beyond even that, Tom was a problem solver who seemed genuinely focused on our best outcome: He quickly rekeyed our doors, and for the lock we had replaced, he suggested a range of options including things he had in stock, and others we could provide. For a finicky door with a warp, he worked the problem, finding a surprisingly quick and effective solution. We wholeheartedly recommend Tom's locksmith services, and wouldn't hesitate to call him again. read more

Wonderful service from an honest and licence company. Very quick, prompt and friendly.

Tom was at our home within 30 minutes of our call, rekeyed 8 door locks, realigned the strikes, and provided new keys for our Lake Forest home. All the locks work better than when they were band new. Will only call Custom Lock in the future -- the best! read more

Tom reaches out to me right away when I sent an inquiry about getting a car key replacement. He was able to provide other references for my specific need and recommended actions to take before paying for a brand new key (my key may be locked in my car). So prompt. So receptive. I appreciate the guidance and would recommend Tom to anyone. Thank you! read more

If you need a locksmith, look no further! Tom came within one hour of my call to re-key all of the locks on my home. He was fast, friendly, highly professional, and observed all COVID-19 protocols. His pricing was excellent, and he reset my garage door remotes and keypad at no charge. He was upfront and honest, and there were no hidden fees. He identified a workaround for an issue for which I had already approved a replacement part, and did not charge me for the new part I ultimately did not need. He had me test every lock and every new key before he left. When there was an issue with a couple of the new keys, he solved the problem before leaving at no additional charge. I recommend Custom Lock & Safe without hesitation! If there were six stars I'd give them. read more

Great service! Tom was able to change our locks the same day we called. He was efficient, knowledgeable and helped us save money. We had an issue with a sliding door that he fixed for no charge. We will definitely be using him again and will refer him to friends & family in the future. read more

Tom could not have been nicer and more professional. I really had no idea what to expect when I called--we moved into a new house with old doors and malfunctioning locks. I thought we'd have to replace the whole old lock on the front door. In the initial call, Tom obtained some basic information and then had me follow up in texts with pictures of our front door lock with which we were having issues. After taking a look, Tom called back to say that he thought replacing the lock was going to be very expensive (he offered to have me go out and buy one on my own, which he'd install, if I went that route), but he thought he might be able to take the existing lock apart, tinker with its innards, and make it work again (for much cheaper). I took him up on the latter offer, and I'm glad I did. Tom found a time after work convenient for me, came over and took apart the lock, fixed it up, changed cylinders on other external locks to make them all uniform (which they weren't previously), entertained my daughter (who was more enthralled watching Tom work than she is watching Sofia the First), and even managed to reaffix the screen door that had been mangled by the recent wind (which thrilled my wife), all for half of the cost quoted for buying a replacement front door lock. I can't speak highly enough about Tom's professionalism. Glad to know there are hardworking professionals in the area. read more

Literally could not have asked for a better experience with a locksmith. Tom was great every step of the way. Locks work great, all the same key as requested. Quick service, and great price. Wish I could give him 6 stars. Highly Recommended! read more

I highly recommend Tom for any locksmith needs. Tom assisted me with identifying a front door lock and handle set to replace a broken and discontinued one He installed the new handle sets and re-keyed my other entry door locks and deadbolts so all operate with the same keys. Tom was very helpful and the finished product looks great. read more

Efficient. Professional. Friendly. Scheduled Tom to come install a new keypad lock and handle, as well as re-key the lock. He was fast, courteous and professional. Cost came in below the estimate he quoted me. Once he was done, he noticed I happened to be working on a separate project (fixing a cabinet). He got an extra-long Phillips bit out of his truck that I needed and told me to keep it for next time. Above and beyond! read more

My wallet and keys were stolen. So I needed the locks in my house rekeyed ASAP. Tom arrived early and completed the work very efficiently. He also cut 8 keys. The charge was very reasonable, in my opinion, $200 total. I second David G's remarks: "Tom is as good as it gets. Friendly, efficient, thorough, professional, and fairly priced." I would not hesitate to recommend him to others. read more

Came out same day within 15 minutes. Very professional & efficient! He even came out again to complete another project the very next day.

Worked after hours for my benefit same day I called! Very fair pricing due to low overhead.

Tom was fantastic. He went above and beyond and did great work for a reasonable price. Very professional- the only locksmith we will ever need. We are very glad we called him! read more

Had keys replaced. Great service. Very responsive. On time and quick to assist. Helped fix my front door...no charge. Appreciate the help.

I appreciate the great service, professionalism, and quality. I had a bit of an emergency with a front door lock - I received a prompt answer to my initial call, and immediate understanding of my problem, and a same day visit. Not only was the problem resolved such that the door could now close, extra time was taken to repair an antique lock and ensure that it worked more smoothly than in the past 15 years. Many thanks for the great service and highly skilled work. read more

Tom at Custom Lock is a fantastic locksmith. Today he stopped by my Plato's Schaumburg location to re-key all our fitting rooms. Our original key went missing and the copy key wasn't cut properly at the home supply store we took it to initially. Also some of the locks weren't closing properly and a handle was loose. So I called Tom and he came out the next day. He was on time, quick, efficient and pleasant to work with. He re-keyed all the locks, fixed the issue locks and properly cut a master plus 4 extra keys for us. The price was $140 including truck charge. First found Tom when I used his services for a door issue I was having at my Plato's Closet Skokie store after the first company I hired Atlas couldn't get the correct door closer and their costs were outrageous. Tom was recommended by a friend and I would highly recommend him as well. read more

Tom came within the hour (after hours) to get an accidentally locked bedroom door open. He re-keyed the door right away! While at my house he fixed a bathroom door that wasn't latching shut properly and gave me suggestions on flashing for my front door. All at a great price. I will definitely use this company again and can't say enough about my experience! Thank you Tom!! read more

This company deserves your business...Tom was on time, knowledgeable, explained what he was going to do and why, cleaned up prior to leaving. Would give him 10 stars if I could. read more

Best locksmith ever!! It is so refreshing to work with a knowledgeable expert. Highly recommend!

Dealing with Tom and Chicago Lock and Safe was such a pleasant experience in all respects! Tom made arrangements to come out to see a large, older house we just bought. I thought he was just coming to give us a quote. When he looked at everything that needed to be done that included changing all the locks, restore strikes and deadbolts, repair door handles that were not working, re-key all locks in house and coach house, repair mortise cylinders and install some new strikes plates and provide keys - he gave us a price and said he could do it right away. The price was very fair, he worked for almost three hours, did everything that needed to be done very well, walked us through and examined all the work and told us how to work things, did not even charge us for a couple items, and was pleasant, professional courteous and told me about his great sounding Bonsai tree collection when we talked about gardening. All in all a great experience and we highly recommend them! read more

Tom helped me quickly and efficiently opening my jammed fire box. I highly recommend him!

Did a great job changing the locks at a fair price

My husband and I wanted to replace our front door lock and handle set and we thought we knew what we were doing. Nope! We called Tom on Sunday AM. One of the few locksmiths on google with Sunday hours in the area. He was already on a job and said he could come later in the day and kept us posted on when to expect him. When he arrived he was courteous, personable, and professional. He fixed the mess we made and installed the lock. Price was reasonable and he didn't even upcharge us for it being a Sunday! Would definitely use again and recommend to friends! read more

Great service! I'd called about a removing a Medeco deadbolt and he gave me instructions over the phone on how to do it! I still had trouble and scheduled an appointment for the next morning and he showed up right on time. Removed the deadbolt and said since he was here he'd put the new hardware on for the same price. The new stuff required additional drilling in the metal door and that was an additional $20 but that was still a great price for the work he did. He made sure the door latched correctly and ground down the strike plate a bit to make sure everything worked as it should. Totally satisfied with the work he did and with the price. Definitely will recommend him to others and will use him again! read more
