I replaced my home's front door lock and handle. I couldn't get the deadbolt installed properly so I consulted yelp to find a good local locksmith. Custom Lock & Safe came up with all 5 star reviews so it was an obvious choice. I called Friday about 7 pm and Tom answered my call and after I explained my issue he said he'd come by after 3 pm Saturday. He texted me shortly after 3 pm the next day and said he'd be over shortly. He spent about a half hour and reinstalled the deadbolt properly so it worked seamlessly and reinstalled the handle that I hadn't fully attached. After paying him for the service call and a half hour labor he asked if I wanted my door to the garage to match the key to the front door and I happily said of course! He quickly changed the lock on the access door as promised and gave me two additional new keys and said no additional charge!! I would highly recommend Tom to anyone! Tom could not have been nicer and more professional. I really had no idea what to expect when I called--we moved into a new house with old doors and malfunctioning locks. I thought we'd have to replace the whole old lock on the front door. In the initial call, Tom obtained some basic information and then had me follow up in texts with pictures of our front door lock with which we were having issues. After taking a look, Tom called back to say that he thought replacing the lock was going to be very expensive (he offered to have me go out and buy one on my own, which he'd install, if I went that route), but he thought he might be able to take the existing lock apart, tinker with its innards, and make it work again (for much cheaper). I took him up on the latter offer, and I'm glad I did. Tom found a time after work convenient for me, came over and took apart the lock, fixed it up, changed cylinders on other external locks to make them all uniform (which they weren't previously), entertained my daughter (who was more enthralled watching Tom work than she is watching Sofia the First), and even managed to reaffix the screen door that had been mangled by the recent wind (which thrilled my wife), all for half of the cost quoted for buying a replacement front door lock. Tom at Custom Lock is a fantastic locksmith. Today he stopped by my Plato's Schaumburg location to re-key all our fitting rooms. Our original key went missing and the copy key wasn't cut properly at the home supply store we took it to initially. Also some of the locks weren't closing properly and a handle was loose. So I called Tom and he came out the next day. He was on time, quick, efficient and pleasant to work with. He re-keyed all the locks, fixed the issue locks and properly cut a master plus 4 extra keys for us. The price was $140 including truck charge. First found Tom when I used his services for a door issue I was having at my Plato's Closet Skokie store after the first company I hired Atlas couldn't get the correct door closer and their costs were outrageous. Dealing with Tom and Chicago Lock and Safe was such a pleasant experience in all respects! Tom made arrangements to come out to see a large, older house we just bought. I thought he was just coming to give us a quote. When he looked at everything that needed to be done that included changing all the locks, restore strikes and deadbolts, repair door handles that were not working, re-key all locks in house and coach house, repair mortise cylinders and install some new strikes plates and provide keys - he gave us a price and said he could do it right away. The price was very fair, he worked for almost three hours, did everything that needed to be done very well, walked us through and examined all the work and told us how to work things, did not even charge us for a couple items, and was pleasant, professional courteous and told me about his great sounding Bonsai tree collection when we talked about gardening. Great service! I'd called about a removing a Medeco deadbolt and he gave me instructions over the phone on how to do it! I still had trouble and scheduled an appointment for the next morning and he showed up right on time. Removed the deadbolt and said since he was here he'd put the new hardware on for the same price. The new stuff required additional drilling in the metal door and that was an additional $20 but that was still a great price for the work he did. He made sure the door latched correctly and ground down the strike plate a bit to make sure everything worked as it should. Totally satisfied with the work he did and with the price.
