Over a decade after first working with Nathalie, I was thrilled to find that she was still in business when I needed her again last fall. We recently converted our garage to an ADU, and I was just as flummoxed about what paint colors would have looked best in that (or any) space. Nathalie to the rescue! Her picks were perfection, creating a look that is simultaneously comforting and sophisticated, and making the space look larger. I can't wait to be able to repaint the inside of our "main" house based on her suggestions! read more

Nathalie was great! We were stuck on what color to repaint our house and after trying some samples on our own, we reached out to the expert! Nathalie took the time to have a call with me first to understand what we were going for. Then she brought over a ton of colors, walked the interior and exterior of the house, and told us about how to look at colors in sun and shade, LRV values, etc etc Safe to say if you have any paint questions or confused about colors, do not hesitate to call her and get her help. Even more helpful was she put digital versions of our house with the colors and it took us a few renditions to get to the exact color combo we wanted. Very worth it to design it all out ahead of time so we didn't make any mistakes on the actual paint job. Thanks again! read more

Nathalie came to my rescue. Literally, I called her the week between Xmas and Jan1. She showed up and helped me choose a paint color for my office which had to match non traditional cabinet and floor colors. Truly appreciative of her professionalism, expertise, and fun personality. She has also helped me with colors in my home and brother's home. Highly recommend for beautiful colors and environment. read more

We were so happy with our color consultation from Nathalie at Custom Color and Art. She has an amazing eye and a really thoughtful, easygoing way of guiding you through decisions that can otherwise feel overwhelming. Our Los Feliz property has beautiful natural wood beams in the ceiling, and her suggestion to simply restore and highlight them, rather than change them, was exactly right -- we're truly thrilled with how they turned out. Natalie really listens, understands the space and the architecture, and then offers guidance that feels intentional and grounded, not trendy or forced. The whole process felt collaborative and stress-free, and the end result elevated the home in a way that feels both timeless and personal. We would absolutely work with her again and recommend her without hesitation. read more

Nathalie, In response to your reply, we are needing to clarify a few things for accuracy: We wanted some options for both the makeup vanity & guest bedroom walls, but also expressed we wanted all rooms to be cohesive and flow; we asked about using a possible soft pink or mauve color for my makeup vanity and a possible soft green or blue for the guest bedroom walls. We never agreed on either of these colors yet those are only two color options you offered. We were struggling to find colors, and were relying on your guidance, and as such, hired you a color professional to come up with ideas that would work with our home. We did ask about pink and green but only as possible options, but you took our suggestion as gospel and ran with those colors, locked us in immediately to those colors and proceeded to give us two small color swatches, with no other choices/options discussed. When we asked for other color options for the makeup vanity, you replied use "white dove" which was already our default decision if we could not find another color, which is why we brought in a color consultant specialist for help. Pink and/or green is for a child's room not a modern/transitional home remodel and will not work. These color ideas that we brought up to you had not been fully flushed out and were tossed out only during the process of trial and error. We really needed your expertise here in choosing appropriate colors and for you to guide us properly. You relied on your extensive color palate to flip through colors rather than really take in the space and offer the correct options. Instead, you locked us in to those colors as soon as we brought them up. When we initially spoke with you on the phone you assured us you were qualified to guide us and could find solutions that would work. There were three main rooms we needed help with and we discussed this with you over the phone prior to your visit. #1. Master Bath vanity paint or wood, #2. Guest Bath vanity paint or wood, #3. Makeup vanity color options to include the adjacent bedroom walls. You focused so heavily on matching the fireplace rocks in our great room, which I made clear multiple times to you this was not my concern or focus during the consultation, which you dismissed. Rather than offering solutions, you concluded at the end to "just go with what you've chosen for wood vanities". Your selection Chantilly Lace for bathroom walls, along with white dove ceiling and trims does not work as a bright white turns white dove dingy and grey which we repeated expressed our concerns with to you. As our color consultant we asked that you guide us in the right direction and not use our input and suggestions as gospel. A pink Makeup vanity although sounds lovely in theory, does not work with our wood flooring or master shower tile selections and other schemes throughout the house. When we called you back to discuss the makeup vanity in pink would not work you told me to "just use Chantilly lace". In response to your comment about rejecting all agreed upon selections... we expressed during our consultation that we still were not comfortable with the choices you had locked us into. You provided us limited selections one color to choose from which we never agreed were correct and we expressed this prior to the conclusion of our consultation. Nathalie, while we appreciate you coming out, we don't feel we received the expert guidance of an experience color consultant as reflected and advertised as such in your profile, and certainly not at the high premium you charge for your expertise. We have reached out by phone three times with you refusing to talk and hanging up on us. Thank you, read more

Nathalie is good at what she does! Besides the obvious -when you meet her you will know what I mean- her word choice is descriptive and her ability to elaborate gives guidance towards solutions. The reason my husband and I decided to consult with Nathalie is because he and I could not agree on a color scheme. After months and months of searching and debating, on our own, we could not agree. We had different preferences and couldn't come to a compromise on our own. What made it more difficult was that the front of our home had a lot going on in terms of textures, materials and lines, from vertical tongue and grooves, trim to stucco to brickwork. With his preferences and my preferences communicated to Nathalie, she was able to find a color scheme that pleased both of us. Moreover, she knew how to take 3 colors and make it work with all that was going on with our exterior. Additionally, she was able make colors pop depending on where the materials lie in relationship to each other: sheen on the tongue and groove versus flat on the stucco. Although it may sound simple when reading, it was difficult to envision. Nathalie gave us the guidance and confidence to move forward. We are so happy with the results and it was all to do with her! read more

In prep for a $300k+ remodel, Nathalie's modest fee was by far the best money I've spent! As a fellow artist, I wanted my house to be different, but not offensive and un-rentable to those accustomed to the cream/taupe/greige themes utilized by everyone else in my neighborhood. My motto to Nathalie was "save me from myself!", and she did! I have had so many compliments from neighbors and inquiries if my house is going on the market. It's not -- it's my forever home -- but I'm thrilled that my Carter Plum front door and Tucker Chocolate stucco align so well with the new pavers she helped me choose and strike an artists' chord in passerby. She gave me support to voice my wants to the contractors and definitely helped my interior bath and flooring remodel too, by weighing in on design decisions when I was overwhelmed. I'd highly recommend Nathalie for her color and design expertise, experience handling contractors and construction projects, and emotional support putting your vision up on your walls and out on your street! read more

Nathalie was an exceptional professional at selecting beautiful exterior colors for my home, taking out all of the anxiety in such a major decision! She has a great eye for color and is truly detail oriented. Nathalie guided me throughout the entire painting process: helping with final decisions once the large paint samples were applied, and even quickly giving me extra paint colors once the job was underway when we decided to also paint a perimeter wall. Nathalie was just fantastic to work with, and I highly recommend her color consultation service! read more

Nathalie helped us so much with choosing a color for our house. She explained why some colors would work and others not. I learned so much. Counter balancing whites to reduce unwanted pink light reflections! My partner and I were challenged to move forward painting our interior a white that would counterbalance strong pink tone coming from exterior light reflections. The whites that we were choosing didn't feel right against our concrete floors (dingy feeling), adding even more complexity to selecting the perfect white. Nathalie took careful attention during our visit by asking really great lifestyle questions; questions about future renovation plans that may change light circumstances, etc. - very detailed questions to better understand our needs. She helped us gain insight about the relationship between light and its influences in a space, color saturation/intensity, reflectivity and how objects against the white tones felt in connection to the overall room, etc. She placed a sample order for us and we quickly got the larger samples to test on our walls. Nathalie was spot on! The result is a beautiful white that counter balances the pink cast that we were getting from outside. The white that Nathalie helped us choose is a soft dreamy white that feels connected to the concrete floor and makes our art and objects really vibrant on the walls. I am so thankful for Nathalie's eduction, insights and ability to help us break our painting roadblock. It was so fun watching Nathalie perform her craft with so much expertise, and a pure joy to collab with her. Thanks a million! read more

Nathalie was a great help in defining color combinations for me. She instantly understood how much I love color in my home vs neutrals, even though I struggled to figure out next steps and how to tie in themes. By pointing out a few different spots of color I love (e.g., a reading area, patio seating, plus some photos I gathered) she keyed in on what would make me happy. And she was right! Highly recommend her services. And by the way, the big surprise was that the color combo she recommended was nothing I had considered! read more

Nathalie did a great job advising us when we wanted to repaint the exterior of our house in the Pasadena foothills area. We wanted to paint our house exterior in an excellent white for the base, while adding a couple of new accent colors from a palette of mid-century color options. She listened intently to our ideas and preferences, worked patiently to help us select the best fit of accent colors for our house, and provided expert advice on the best color and high quality paint manufacturer selections. She's a complete pro, great to work with, and highly knowledgeable. We recommend her completely!!! read more

Nathalie saved us when trying to decide the outside color for our house! She also helped us decide a color for the wood ceiling in our living room! Picking paint colors can be very stressful and frustrating. We had a dozen samples on the outside until we met Nathalie. She is extremely knowledgeable and incorporates the roof, plants, surrounding trees, stone in the path to help decide the colors. She does renderings so you can narrow down what looks best and orders the samples for you to try. Nathalie was wonderful to work with. We needed to paint the inside of our house quickly and she was able to accommodate our schedule and spent the time to get to know our tastes. She helped us understand the different types of paint, sheens, what bold colors would look like on a large space vs more sophisticated colors, etc. It was extremely helpful as when you are taking on the project to paint the entire inside of your house there are so many different places you can go and so many ways to confuse and spend too much time thinking it through. Nathalie helped us streamline the process and give us tips on colors for our furniture after we painted as well. Definitely recommend getting this support if you are painting but also coming with your own ideas to help with the process so it truly is your own vision. read more

When my wife told me she wanted to hire a color consultant, I was happy to do so b/c as a couple we are very particular with certain details - and the color scheme possibilities was driving me crazy as we wanted to make the perfect choices. My wife chose Nathalie because she could sense here passion. Not only is Nathalie passionate about what she does but it's contagious. She immediately put us at ease regarding the choices we should make in the best interest of the project as well as presented some bold options to consider. Countless neighbors have stopped to share their excitement of how beautifully our home was turning out, and some have even 'borrowed' from our choices as they try to update their own homes. We completely enjoyed the experience and benefit of Nathalie's expertise. Even through a tough COVID work environment, she was there to support via video conference when needed. There are many colors in the rainbow. They are all lovely on their own terms, but they won't all look lovely on the walls of your home. Enter Nathalie with her many years of experience, and her extensive knowledge of what colors work where, to help either support (or save you from) your big ideas. We purchased a new home full of fine neutral colors and wanted to make it our own, with some bolder elements. These are scary choices to make and "pulling the trigger" on a paint color for a wall feels like a big deal. Nathalie spent a great deal of time in our home, getting to know us, and our sensibility, and helped us create a color palette which is tasteful, bold, sophisticated and beautiful. She helped us through every aspect of the process after her initial visit...from making sure we had the right samples to put up, to offering to connect with our painter, to viewing colors as they went up (via photos) to make sure everything was as we wanted. We had a couple of mind-changing moments throughout and she supported us throughout. She also, in her initial report, offered a handful of interior design tips and elements. We felt great about our experience with her...she gave us the confidence to actually make color decisions, and our house is now beautiful and uniquely ours. Thank you Nathalie. read more

Nathalie is our color angel! I consider myself to have a good eye - but when it came to picking colors for our house, I was drowning. My partner and I started playing with ideas and swatches, knowing we didn't want to paint everything white. We were instantly overwhelmed and frustrated so I took to the internet - and I'm so GLAD I stumbled on Nathalie and her talents. We scheduled a consultation over the phone and got into some details that put me at ease. Nathalie wanted to try and capture us and our inspiration before our in-person meeting, so once we met she already had an idea around what we were going for. In seeing the house, though, Nathalie picked up on details that we didn't even begin to notice. She helped create a color palette that felt so so very us, and served the house in a beautiful way. We really could not be happier with the results! Nathalie went above and beyond in terms of communication too - making sure we were set every step of the way, and even recommending painters and fixtures when we were lost in a sea of choices. Can't wait to have another project to work with Nathalie on :) read more

Choosing paint color is NOT my strong suit. After 17 years in my home, I finally had the nerve to have the exterior painted this past March. After it was all done (bummer alert) I HATED the colors I chose. It turned out dark, drab and depressing -- not exactly the vibe I was going for. After a couple of months, I realized that I couldn't live with it, so I did a quick Google search for a local color consultant. Luckily I found Nathalie Tierce. I called her right away -- and in a bizarre twist of fate, we realized that she had done the color consulting for the house directly across the street from me (which I LOVE). It was meant to be! She came out to see me a few days later (with mask and proper social distancing, of course). Let me just say that she did NOT disappoint. Nathalie is billed as a color consultant, but I would swear she's more of a color PSYCHIC. It sounds weird (yeah, I know), but it's almost as if the house communicates with her. She took one look at my place and instantly told me that the color I had chosen for the trim was a really "handsome" color -- but that the dark color I had chosen for the stucco was dragging the whole house down. She was certain that I could keep the existing trim color and we could just pick a new color for the stucco that would be a better complement. That scenario would also be far less labor intensive...and CHEAPER. I was ALL for that! I might mention that Nathalie not only knows color, but she also has a downright scientific understanding of how light, shade, sun direction and landscaping AFFECT that color. Because my house faces North and never gets direct sunlight on the front, she immediately started looking at lighter/brighter options that would give my house a much needed "lift" (as she described). After deciding on two possible candidates and having me do the proper tests, we were in total agreement about which color worked best. Fast-forward a week later and my painters already had the new color up. What a difference (and what a relief)! It's GORGEOUS! Thank you, Nathalie! And after just a couple of days, I soon came to realize that the new lighter/brighter stucco color brought with it a huge and unexpected extra added bonus. The interior of my house is now a full 5 to 7 degrees COOLER. No lie! My A/C barely even needs to kick on now. I never would've believed the exterior color could make THAT much of a difference on the inside. It's been life-altering for me -- and The DWP savings alone will far and away make up for the expense of repainting. So, to recap: If you're getting ready to paint your house and are feeling a little (or a lot) overwhelmed, please don't be a dumb-a$# like me and waste a lot of time, energy and cash on avoidable mistakes. Call Nathalie FIRST and then relax and have a cocktail. You'll be SO glad you did. I know I am. :-) read more

I'm getting my house ready for sale and the real estate agent says everyone now wants a white kitchen. I go to home Depot to find the color white. Turns out there are 50 different versions. I have no idea which white but I know I dont want it to be hospital white. So I start looking on Yelp for a Color Consultant. Nathalie was my 3rd call and most reasonable service/price that fits in my budget. She comes by as agreed and oh boy am I glad she came by. Alot more nuanced to picking a color then I would have thought but it all made sense. Had it painted to the color as we agreed and it turned out great. So glad I got her help because picking the wrong color and having to pay for 2+ paintjobs is way more expensive. Wise move for people like me who are not color confident or wise. Many thanks again to Nathalie read more

Nathalie is amazing!!! We have a 1934 colonial home with cream trim and moldings throughout. We found out the HARD way that the trim and lighting would make it very hard to pick a new wall color for our bedrooms, foyer and hallways (everything was making the moldings/trim look like a dirty yellow and it was way too much of an undertaking to change the moldings/trim). We originally painted the walls a light blue and it looked AWFUL. Not to mention we are working with an interior designer so we had no idea how it had turned out so badly!! So we had to pause the paint job and start the paint color search again. After totally striking out with the blue, and losing trust in ourselves and our interior designer, we hired Nathalie because we knew we needed a color expert and wanted to spend the money upfront to get it right. The cost of Nathalie is far less than the cost of paying painters to come do the same job twice :) I am so glad we made this investment and I just wish we had found Nathalie before we even put an initial swatch on the wall because it would have saved us so much time, money and emotions!! An interior designer is not a paint color expert and you absolutely do need both if you want to get it right. Nathalie went above and beyond and after our initial consultation, she came back to our home a second time to look at the selected samples on the wall and help us finalize the choices. It really makes a difference to have someone see the paint swatches in person vs. pictures. She also gave us opinions on light fixtures that would work well with the paint colors and helped us to change out existing lighting to get the look we wanted. We plan to remodel our kitchen / family room / bathrooms in the coming years and will not make a single design decision without first having a consult with Nathalie. I 100% wish the first thing we did in the entire design process was for Nathalie to come out and advise on paint colors! It really is the most important building block in the whole process. read more

We are delighted with our exterior paint design provided by Nathalie Tierce of Custom Color and Art. We live over 300 miles away, so it was all accomplished via email, messages and photos. It was easy, because Nathalie Tierce listened and then designed the perfect colors and color placements for our home. We were stuck before we found her website. We had a short deadline, because of the painter's schedule. We also had some design challenges, because of the color of our roof and certain color desires. Natalie worked it all out, and sent us a photos with colors superimposed on a photo of our house. The result was just like the photo. We had a paint emergency, and Nathalie saved the day! After the consultation with our house exterior painters fell through, we were left to figure out the exact colors and details the day before the painting was due to start. Natalie responded within the hour of my email and was able to come to the house the next morning to talk us through her thoughts and our options. Given the quality of her advice, I definitely wish we'd had more time to work with her and see the renderings she offers, but her responsiveness and input on our extremely limited timeline was invaluable. We took all of her suggestions, and we love how the exterior of our house turned out. Can't recommend enough! (But give her more time than the twelve hours we did.) read more

If you are doing any change in color in your house, interior or exterior, walls or anything else, you need to talk to Nathalie. I admit I was skeptical when I first heard about Nathalie and her work from a friend, but I am so glad that we engaged her. Color is very hard to get right, and easy to get wrong. Here is what Nathalie does to make it easy to get right. 1. She gives you a simple vocabulary to discuss colors, shades, values and other esoteric nuances about color. This makes it possible for you to communicate with her what you are looking for. 2. She carries large swatches that allow you to see how the color will look at your house. 3. She has hundreds and hundreds of swatches to choose from, and, with your new vocabulary, it is not a guessing game, you are funneling down to the exact color in your head. 4. Sounds simple, but Nathalie knows exactly where to paint samples at your house that will give you the best feedback on how a color will look. She sends you a rendering with arrows pointing to where you should paint samples. So easy. 5. She somehow comes up with adjectives that help characterize what you are looking for in color. For our house she told us it would look "handsome", which was exactly what we wanted but couldn't articulate. 6. You can use Nathalie at any time, for us she came in after our original designer couldn't proceed and had not yet picked colors, not a problem for Nathalie, she was able to fit herself into our project like she had always been there. However, you are going to want to use Nathalie as early as you can, so you don't waste time later. 7. Finally, Nathalie works very hard, and is very responsive. She is sure to become one of your favorite vendors in no time. Do yourself a huge favor and reach out to Nathalie to help with your project, you will be very happy you did. read more

Through a series of maintenance issues, my husband and I realized that we would carry out some serious renovation on our home. That meant we were going to have to figure colors for paint and tiles which overwhelmed us. Neither of us had liked what was there before and didn't know how we were going to figure out what would look right. We saw Nathalie's review on Yelp and after looking at her website decided to call her. When she came to our home, she asked lots of questions about the work we were going to undertake, our taste, budget, what we liked and disliked. She took notes, measurements, and pictures. On our second meeting, we met at a Tile Showroom (Glendale Tile). She narrowed down our options so that making the final decisions on the tiles was an easy and agreeable process. She also provided color chips for the rooms in question that the painter was able to use to get samples for. The work is done and it looks great. Had we not hired Nathalie, the whole process would have been stressful, time consuming and wouldn't have looked as beautiful as the result as we have now. Thank you for all your help Nathalie! read more

Natalie really nailed it. This is the first time we used a color expert to help us choose colors for each room. She took photos, look at the lighting and the furniture and chose colors for each room. I never heard of or thought about a person helping in this area. But it was amazing how she figured out each room so the flow from room to room was subtle yet changing. She even chose the ceilings and the molding colors and textures. She sent chips of the paints and knows the good paint places and those that are not so good. She provided some names of painters and we randomly choose one that was incredible. I cannot say enough good things about Natalie and the painter that did the job. read more

My sister recommended Nathalie to me as I was torn about what color to use to paint the interior of my home. My husband and I have always picked out colors on our own so this was our first experience hiring a color consultant. Truthfully, we had no idea that such a thing existed. We were looking to use paint to brighten up our rooms and had couldn't find one simply looking at paint swatches. When we hired Nathalie, she created a custom blend color for our home. We didn't realize that this was even possible. The end result was the perfect color and knowing that it was created especially for our home that complimented our new hardwood floors, our artwork and furniture. I highly recommend hiring Nathalie as you would be pleasantly surprised at just how much she can transform your room. We were totally blown away and will never paint another room without her insight beforehand again. Liz M. read more

When I redid the exterior of my house some time ago, I borrowed the colors from my broker's house, with her permission! They look great on her place, but they didn't work on mine. After living with the colors for several years and never really liking them, the time came for an update. I had some ideas of what I wanted, but as is always the case with me when it comes time to choose colors, I felt overwhelmed by the number of choices. Not to mention the many subtleties of the colors you're zeroing in on. Enter Nathalie Teirce! Who I think I found here on Yelp. Her website describes exactly the experience that many people have in choosing paint colors-- the process is frustrating and overwhelming, and you often end up with pints and pints of hardly used samples that go straight to the hazardous waste site. This describes my previous experiences exactly. And I'm someone who's generally confident in my own design decisions, but not with paint! When she came to my place, I had prepared some photos of exterior paint jobs I liked, and we walked around the neighborhood where I pointed out some house color combinations I liked and didn't like, and for what reason. She then went through her books of swatches and very quickly honed in on a handful of colors that seemed like the perfect choices. That's a skill that I simply don't have-- it was like watching a magician. My house exterior has five colors total (two are trim), and she left me with two choices for three of them, and we agreed on the other two right on the spot. I mention this because the I wasn't left with five choices for each color, which would have been a new version of my original problem of indecisiveness. Also, because of her connections with Dunn Edwards, she was able to get the samples made, in my case, for no charge. Long story, but the project got delayed a year, and when I finally got back to it, I had her come back over for a second look once I had applied the samples to various spots. She gave a couple more recommendations, and I was able to quickly settle on the final color choices, which ended up looking great when the project was completed. Nathalie was very easy to work with, took my input well, came up with great recommendations, explained things clearly, and also helped with related questions like use of low satin vs. semi gloss vs. full gloss etc etc. I highly recommend her! read more

We THOUGHT we had good eyes for color. Until the shade that looked gray in the store turned out to be a ghastly baby blue I can only describe as "haunted nursery." After all the time and expense of buying and painting we were so unhappy! But then we called Nathalie to help us out. I'm so glad we did. I only wish we would have called her FIRST! She was so calm and knowledgeable about picking color. DIdn't try and force her vision on us, she worked with ours. Helped us understand how all the elements of outside color and light and floor color all play into how we perceive color on the wall. Our dining room and living room went from haunted nursery to Architectural Digest luxe all because of Nathalie's help. Oh, and she helped us find an AMAZING rug as well, not only in a perfect color palate but in a size you can't find anywhere (7'6" x 9.6"?! Who has ever heard of such a thing?
