I planned a graduation party in less than two weeks and this was a pick off of yelp. The location and cake options sold me but the customer service and overall experience solidified my decision.. plus the cake was 10/10. Everyone agreed the flavor was DELICIOUS and the only thing I wish I did was get a bigger cake! I got a 6 inch cake thinking not everyone would have some. I also did get a dozen cookies and all of it was gone. Thank you to Raquel and team for delivering I will definitely be getting more cakes from here in the future.

I am so happy with my experience at custom cake design. From beginning to end everything was smooth. I was able to get transparent pricing upfront and the shop was very responsive with questions I had throughout the process. Invoicing was easily done through an emailed link. They were also kind enough to accommodate the best pick up time for me. And of course the cake was absolutely beautiful and delicious! We got a chocolate vanilla swirl with strawberry filling and cream cheese frosting! Yum! I highly recommend & I will 100% be a returning customer.

Absolutely amazing service and product! The birthday girl and guests were very happy with the design and taste of this strawberry shortcake birthday cake. It was fresh, moist, delicious and even down to the perfectly sliced strawberries between the layers. Custom Cake Desigm has a repeat customer on their hands. Kudos!

So I took forever choosing what cake I wanted for my baby's 1st bday. With every question I had, staff was always quick to answer. I finally decided in cup cakes so when I went into the store, I changed my mind and decided to add a smash cake even though it was short notice. They made it work. Cake looked so nice and was more than what I expected it to be with only a few days notice. Price was great as well. Can't wait to see the cup cakes and cake pops! Update: 2023 Love this Garten of Ban Ban cake! She added a few things and it was wonderful and the taste was amazing!

This place really knows how to take a couple photos off Pinterest and turn them into a stunning cake, with all the personalizations you ask for. I ordered a custom watch cake for my dad's 70th birthday and they made it look amazing! My dad and all his guests were floored! And they work with you on pricing too. I called custom cake design about 2 weeks before my husbands birthday/book launch to see if they were able to assist with a special cake for him. I spoke with a lady who was very kind and accommodating. She talked through the options with me and made it very simple to send her the image for the top of the cake. When I arrived to pick up the cake there was a gentleman at the counter who showed me the cake first to make sure I liked it. Afterwards, he helped me carry the cake to the car and ensure that it was secured so it wouldn't get spoiled in transport.

I wanted a really special cake for my wife's big 40th! I decided on Custom Cake Design because they had a really cool Nike sneaker cake on their website's photo gallery. My wife is a HUGE sneaker head, so what could be more appropriate?! Being the first time I had ever ordered a custom cake, and not being able to go in and try the flavor combinations - I had a lot of questions. They communicated with me both phone and email promptly and were so accommodating. I even had a lot of changes in regards to delivery and flavors and they were beyond patient with me. I had the finalized order in a couple weeks advance and was so excited to see the results! I decided to do pick up over delivery since I was already out and about. When I picked up, I was a little disappointed. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication about the design on the sneaker. And because the size cake I ordered varied from the one on the photo gallery, my sneaker cake looked more like a high wedge cake versus a sneaker. (This was not communicated to me in advance.) My wife isn't feminine so the idea of a wedge or high heeled sneaker worried me. After I expressed my concern, they were willing to make some changes last minute. They fixed the design issue and made it look a little less feminine. I was relieved. It wasn't exactly what I imagined, but I really appreciated them doing what they could to resolve the issue. I selected the red velvet cake with whipped cream. It was AMAZING. The cake was SO MOIST. We don't normally like very sweet cakes, so I chose the whipped cream hoping it would balance out the sweetness. And it was PERFECT. I was so impressed. The prices are reasonable for the quality and taste! I would definitely come back and recommend them to others!

Laura is an amazingly talented baker! She worked with me to listen to what I was looking for and ended up designing a picture perfect 1st birthday cake (with a smash cake) for my son! I've had some custom made cakes before that do not taste as good as they look and that is NOT the case with Laura! Her cake was absolutely delicious and perfect buttercream frosting! Her use of color and art was great also. Everyone was so pleased, thank you, thank you! I cannot wait to reach out to Laura again in the future and would recommend her to anyone!

They did an amazing job on my cake! My husband turned 60 and I had a surprise party for him. He owns a kids shoe store. It took them a long time to send me a sketch, and I was worried they forgot about my cake, so 4 stars for lack of communication. But, what an adorable cake! And, the taste was fabulous! read more

I ordered two cakes from here and was disappointed. For one cake, the chocolate mousse I paid extra for was such a thin layer you can barely see it! It also seems uneven, the mousse is thicker towards the center of the cake and thinner toward the edges. I've eaten a lot of cake in my life and the buttercream frosting on my cakes from here were the least desirable of any cake I've ever eaten. I called after my first party to show my concern and the lady didn't seem to take my concern seriously (no one above her called me back) The prices here are cheaper than other bakeries in the area, but maybe you get what you pay for. Lesson learned. read more

Tasted like box cake to me. My sister spent $500 for my nieces sweet sixteen birthday cake and it was extremely disappointing. The red velvet layer was supposed to be cream cheese frosting and it wasn't. The other layers were also not good. We should have bought a cake from Sams club would have tasted the same. Absolute trash in everyone's opinion. read more

Such an amazing experience!! From the beginning to the very end. Miriam was super quick to respond to my email, she understood my vision exactly. We did a gender reveal cake and the price was beyond reasonable. I sent her a picture of the exact design I wanted, and they made the replica! We got so many compliments on the cake. I ordered a birthday cake for my 55th birthday and it was HORRIBLE!! Not only was it very dry, but hard and stale. I asked for buttercream frosting and it tasted like whipped cream! It even left a bitter and nasty after taste. Cutting into the cake make it break apart. I would not recommend this bakery! read more

I ordered my 25th birthday cake from here. I was a little nervous and anxious as I never order a custom cake before. I went to a few places to get a quote. I decided to go with this place as Raquel was a great help in getting us started. We ordered the cake two weeks in advance. We had a tasting a week before to pick out flavors. My cake was a two tier cake to feed 30-35 people. Raquel recommended us to do 9" and 7" but being a newbie and I was scared that we won't have enough cake, we opted for 10" and 7". We should have probably listened to her because we had so much cake leftover. So, that is my lesson. We got vanilla cake with strawberry mousse for the bottom and rich chocolate cake with hazelnut mousse for the top. My only complaint is there wasn't enough filling in the cake. Cake to filling ratio is a bit off. I'm not sure if I was supposed to let her to know to have two-three layers of fillings in each cake. But nonetheless, both tiers of cake was delicious. I was also worried about the cake staying moist as the event was later at night. That was not a concern at all. The cake stayed moist even after a couple of days in the fridge. I'm very happy with my cake and will definitely order again from here for future events! read more

I bought a cake for my daughter's 1st birthday party this weekend. The cake was pretty, but I was disappointed with the actual cake itself. I ordered buttercream frosting, but it definitely was not buttercream. I left the cake out like this overnight and if the frosting had been buttercream, then it would have melted, but it's clearly sugar frosting. The actual cake itself tasted like Duncan Hines, which everyone in my family agreed it tasted like a cake mix. The vanilla mousse filling was barely visible and I'm not sure what it was exactly, but didn't taste like mousse. I'm extremely disappointed by this cake and it wasn't worth $100. Save yourself the disappointment and get a cake somewhere else or just pay $10 for a comparable one from Giant. read more

Custom Cakes did all the desserts for my baby shower dessert table and I could not have asked for a prettier display! They are very affordable, it took about 20 minutes for me to come in and make my selections. They can copy any design or picture you bring in. I called to confirm pick up times the day of my shower, and all was ready, no issues or delays. They disregarded our agreement that the person who delivered our wedding cake would also add fresh flowers in a design that we had agreed upon during our tasting. They instead sent a delivery driver who was unable to add the flowers. This resulted in the cake not looking at all as intended. read more

They made my wedding cake, it was beautiful and delicious! The top of my cake was frozen and cannot wait to eat it on my one year anniversary. I got to sample the flavors with my then fiance, we chose a three tiered cake with a backup cake, flavors: 1 tier raspberry and two tier lemon. Custom Cake Design made my wedding cake. Not only was it BEAUTIFUL, but it was delicious!! Two tiers were lemon with raspberry filling and 1 was almond. We were able to sample all flavors and discuss our theme and ideas with the staff who were so sweet and helpful! Would definitely recommend. My wife and I have been coming here for years I have a dairy allergy and need a dairy free cake. Easy to do BUT very hard to do with lightness, taste and texture. Custom Cake Design comes through on all categories. Great taste, perfect execution and attention to detail like no other. They are very friendly and they get your orders completed in good time! I recently used their services for the very first time after seeing so many lovely reviews. The cake they made for me looked exactly like the pictured I had provided to them. There were a couple issues with some of the detail like the frosting and the filling inside the cake that I had requested. I emailed them and They were very quick to reply and fix the issue for me. So they have exceptional customer service, and I will definitely be using them again. Even though the cake didn't have the frosting I wanted or the fruit, It still looked amazing and taste great!! read more

We had our wedding cake done here. The detail was done exactly as we wanted. We had three different flavors and they were all delicious (lemon w/lemon curd, chocolate w/chocolate ganache and spice w/cream cheese). I left completely dissatisfied! I called the store on Tuesday to request a birthday cake. I explained to them it could be simple Paw patrol theme cake. I even was suggesting an edible print picture on a frosted cake. The guy on the phone said it was absolutely possible and I could pick it up Saturday since they are closed on Sunday's. The guy told me to send them an email with pictures and ideas for the cake. He told me he would call me back that same day and discuss prices. Closing time approached and I did not hear back. I assumed he was busy with the bakery and maybe he would call me during closed store hours. I called back Wednesday morning and the same guy refused to make the cake because he was "booked" despite him confirming he could do it. I told him that we spoke yesterday and he confirmed. I stopped looking for other bakeries because he had said yes to making the cake. He then continued to place blame on me rather than taking accountability. I'm glad my cake was not made by them because if that's how they treat first time customers then I think I would've been unhappy with the cake. Don't waste your time folks, please go somewhere else. There's plenty of Rockville that are MORE professional, honest and helpful! read more

Raquel and her team did an awesome job of doing cupcakes and our top cake for our wedding. She was quick to respond on emails and was very flexible when our original venue cancelled, and we were looking for a new one. Her team delivered the cupcakes and cupcake stand to the venue with no issues and they tasted and looked awesome. Highly recommend! read more

My wife and I came to custom cake design for their tasting day and were blown away by how moist and great tasting their cakes are. We purchased a 2 tier cake that was ready on time and a hit at our wedding. The bottom was the vanilla raspberry and the top was white vanilla. We served both tiers and our guests loved the cake. We ordered a 3-tiered, lightly frosted dulce de leche cake from Custom Cake Design for our wedding in DC a couple weeks ago. It was sooo declious!!! I was so thrilled to discover the top tier of our cake in hotel room following our wedding (placed there by our wedding coordinator). My husband and I want to order a smaller version of our wedding cake every anniversary - it was that good! Many months prior we did a cake tasting on site which was very helpful. There are so many cake, filling, and icing flavors to choose from. I sent a photo of the cake I wanted and it was replicated beautifully. Also, the pricing is very affordable. I am late but they made my Wedding cake for October 18, 2014 and I provided a Picture of how I wanted my cake and the end results were perfect and Delicious. I was tempted a couple times to eat my top layer :) They are very flexible with designs, so dont hesitate or think they would look at you crazy because she made my day special for a good Price. They are also patient because i changed my design at the last minute and when my husband wasnt able to make it to the tasting they wrapped him up a plate to make it easy for us. read more

Wow, wow, WOW!! I called on a Friday at the last minute for a birthday cake for my husband. Thank goodness they had an extra sheet of red velvet they could use for me!!! The cake was so moist. The cake cuts really good as well. The cream cheese filling.....to die for! I really liked that the cocoa flavor was a little bit stronger than any red velvet I've ever had. It was so good. I ordered last minute a cake for my son fourth birthday. I really wanted to like this place but like previous person review the design was wonderful but the cake was not tasteful at all I felt like I was eating giant cake and payed double price for it. Kinda upsetting I wanted to use this for my daughter first birthday but don't think we will be using this place lack of taste it was very dry. Not moist at all :-( read more

This bakery is amazing! I called them 3 days before my event after the previous baker turned out to be unreliable and incompetent. I wanted a detailed teapot cake for 50 people for my grandmothers 100th birthday party. They took the order on such short notice and went above and beyond my expectations. I couldn't believe they were able to do in just 3 days. The cake was a huge hit and everyone was blown away by it. It tasted great! I will definitely order from them again, with more advanced warning next time. They were a pleasure to work with and made my grannys 100th birthday even more memorable. read more

Absolutely one of the best bakeries in the area. We have used them for weddings, birthdays, and a number of other special occasions. They have even served the White House! The aren't trendy but the are a great family establishment. They have made wonderful cakes just as we ordered them Time after time. read more

I made an appointment with Robert; we went in and were amazed. First off, we saw many samples on the counter as well as in his portfolio. Then we went over the logistics of the cake, he took down great notes, provided great suggestions, and was very enthusiastic about helping us. He was kind enough to provide us with an impromptu cake tasting. My fiancé had made up his mind by the end of the free consultation, he picked the design, and we were all set. Robert kept in touch with updates, provided easy and flexible methods of payment and he delivered the cake on time and in one piece. We have seen many cake fail videos but nothing be scared about with Cakes in Style. Our venue was familiar to the owner, so we felt comfortable working with him. We left the store happy and content. We had selected a Red Velvet Cake with a Cream filling, our guests mentioned that it was the best cake they have ever had. It tasted amazing as well as looked beautiful. Presentation and Detail were on spot. I highly recommend Cakes in Style to all and everyone looking for a cake for their special occasion. I will surely use their services again in the future. We would have had no problem at all paying even in full had the business mentioned it even once that it was required. Really a disappointing experience all around working with the provider.

I extremely picky with the particular designs i wanted and was searching around the the Montgomery county area and after getting quotes and design approvals I decided to go with CCD because they were by far the cheapest AND they approved each design and detail i wanted for the cake, the cupcakes and the cookies. most importantly their customer service was outstanding! Raquel was EXTREMELY nice!!! They did an amazing job! the theme was monkeys and bananas! the cupcakes were made exactly how i had asked them to! the frosting even tasted like bananas! and the smash cake was Perfect! We ordered our wedding cake from Custom Cake Design and we are so happy we did!!! When we walked into our wedding reception venue, we were blown away with how beautiful our cake looked!! We selected a white chocolate cake with raspberry and vanilla Bavarian cream inside and vanilla icing. OMG it tasted like a slice of heaven!! All of our guests were so amazed at how wonderful our cake tasted.
