Curry Leaf cafe is nailing it at the moment and is fast becoming a firm choice for those looking for a more authentic curry experience. Rivalling the Chilli Pickle with its strong spicy ambitious dishes which wake up your taste buds the Curry Leaf Cafe offers a relaxed environment for your meal in a modern bright space which is refreshingly different from the usual dark tandoor experience. The menu is fairly limited purely because they have chosen to offer a small number of dishes rather than 20 or so different ones. I recommend the papadom selection with 3/4 different types of spicy crispy variations and some dips that will knock your socks off! The starters are unique tasters of all different styles of cooking but dont fill you up before your main, just leave you wanting more. The mutton curry is truly fantastic -tip top tip! Of you fancy an authentic curry with some soul and heart and packs a punch on flavour- I don't think you can go wrong here! Enjoy!

This is authentic, regional south indian food. Step inside and the color palette will remind well traveled patrons of tamil temples -- or alternatively mistaken for a quirky and contemporary interior design choice. A little column a, a little column b. Came here first for a law school graduation dinner about 3 months ago but thought I'd give it some time before writing a review. Let me come out and say that the weakest part of Curry Leaf is the fish and chips. Cumin and turmeric are wonderful things, but they don't do wonders for that most English of dishes. The Hyderabadi lamb, pakoras, chili mushrooms, bhajis and just about everything else are pretty wonderful. The street food platter is definitely something to try (see photo). Curry Leaf does south indian better than a lot of places in south india. Batter is always thick and crispy, spices are as loud as they should be. The open naan wraps are also some of the finest indian inspired sandwiches you will stumble upon in Brighton. Excellent selection of booze with Hallet's Real Cider (a complete winner for fans of proper cider), some decent, if uninspired cocktails (a lovely 'Hyderabadi' mojito is just a mojito with coriander in it), and a pear cider that is a cut above the dreadful stuff you'll find in co-op, and, while not as pleasant as a real perry, it does come bottled at 7.4% abv. Give it a go, especially for dinner. Their Diwali menu has a paneer dish in a saffron and tomato sauce that I can't wait to try.

Paneer Curry with Mango Naan and a bottle of Foobar beer

I understand that Curry Leaf Cafe started as a pop up restaurant which became a permanent fixture as it was so popular. I can understand why! Four our us went for a meal on a Friday night and the place was packed with a great atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and the menu features a small selection of very interesting dishes that you won't find at your typical Curry house. Our food was lovely, albeit the Paneer dish was too spicy for my liking - my own fault for not following the helpful "hot rating" on the menu! The bar has a good selection of beers to compliment your meal too. I enjoyed a bottle of Foobar with my meal. Be warned that the place can get very, very hot - if the food doesn't bring on a sweat, the lack of air conditioning may!

Rather expensive and pretty small selection of dishes. Looks nice inside but I would probably not go again.

Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).

Proclaiming itself to be Undoubtedly the Best Indian Take Away in Brighton & Hove, I couldn't possibly let it get away with a claim like that without putting it to the test, could I? And you know what? They may well be right... Having been steadily working my way through the Agra's menu since September, I haven't yet found a bad dish. Their curries are tasty without being overwhelmingly spicy and unlike a lot of curry houses, their meals aren't swimming in fat. But do they pass the ultimate test that of the non-soggy onion bhaji? Of course they do. I even order double so I can eat them to next day. Lush. The only downside (if you live anywhere other than right on top of it, like me) is that it doesn't deliver. And I must admit, it's for that reason that on a cold, rainy night we have gone elsewhere for our Friday night curry fix to save ourselves from changing out of our pyjamas and donning waterproof jackets to walk the five minutes there and back again. But when the weather is fair enough for us to shake off our laziness and venture out to collect our order, we've never had to wait more than half an hour, even after 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. Their prices aren't bad either a fair few dishes come with rice included in the price at no extra cost compared with other places, which saves a few pennies on side orders. Having been unable, thus far, to sample every curry house in all of Brighton & Hove I can't comment definitively, but as far as a good Ruby goes this is definitely one of the best you'll find.

Their massive selection of dishes means there's something for everyone, so whether you're a spice freak or a meak 'n' mild kind of person Ganges will cater for you (if you're really boring you can even order chicken and chips but I wouldn't recommend it.) The highlight of the menu is the Ganges Specials section, which ranges in price from £9.95 to £13.95. From this I usually order the Chilli Chicken Massalla or the Lamb Passanda and as of yet I haven't been disappointed. However, the menu can leave the inexperienced feeling a little indecisive, as the range of options can seem somewhat overwhelming. I'd recommend going there with an idea of the kind of dishes you like, that way you can always ask the friendly staff for comparisons. The Sunday buffet is great for those of a hungry disposition as you can tuck in to as much as you like for just £7.95 but whether or not you go for this, Ganges is always sure to leave you with a lasting feeling of fullness. Top notch!

My favourite starter was the fried fish fillets, which are fried in gram flour so are gluten free which is good for me! They also make their masala dosa from scratch, they soak the rice and lentils over night, then grind them in a stone grinder that they imported all the way from India! The most authentic tasting dosa I have ever had! The curries are all amazing, with plenty of unique dishes to choose from, the Lamb Shank curry is one of the best I have ever had. I guess the surroundings must explain why it always looks a bit dead - that and the not too welcoming tacky shop front, which also doesn't give a great view inside of the restaurant. But I'd really recommend you give it a go - in fact this is one of my Indian friend's favourite restaurant in Brighton! The decor is smart, modern and comfortable. The food is good value and seriously yummy - with a great fresh range from indulgent to light and healthy. They also do a big veggie selection. Also look out for the cheapie lunchtime deals advertised in the window. The only thing I wouldn't reccomend the place for is a romantic meal; it's often empty in there, so you'll feel a bit exposed and watched by the waiter. But the place is way more dead than it deserves to be - definitely great for a group as the restaurant gets some business and you get quick delicious food!

I though it was a great pun but I guess they wanted to be taken more seriously. Bhindis are very proud of the fact that they have an entirely open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs at work while you wait for your curry and it's plain to see that this place is both hygienic and efficient. The front-of-house service is great too. The food here is absolutely delicious, not greasy and super tasty. They use fresh herbs in all their dishes and you can taste the freshness of the meat and veg too. As much as I love the Agra I think Bhindis may have the edge with it's pricing too. Most dishes have rice included and you can choose between a large and small portion of your main meal, with quite a noticeable price difference. They also have this gorgeous bright orange coleslaw-type stuff (sounds weird but trust me, it's lush) which I dip my poppadums and bhajis into with immense joy.
