Shahi Tandoori

Shahi Tandoori

I have heard a few people describe this place as the best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

You can never have enough good quality Indian restaurants (so says I), without doubt Shahi Tandoori…read moredeserves to be added to that category. It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).

Having always been a lover of a damn good Ruby, imagine my surprise to discover this little gem…read morenestled up in Fiveways not two minutes from my front door. Proclaiming itself to be Undoubtedly the Best Indian Take Away in Brighton & Hove, I couldn't possibly let it get away with a claim like that without putting it to the test, could I? And you know what? They may well be right... Having been steadily working my way through the Agra's menu since September, I haven't yet found a bad dish. Their curries are tasty without being overwhelmingly spicy and unlike a lot of curry houses, their meals aren't swimming in fat. But do they pass the ultimate test that of the non-soggy onion bhaji? Of course they do. I even order double so I can eat them to next day. Lush. The only downside (if you live anywhere other than right on top of it, like me) is that it doesn't deliver. And I must admit, it's for that reason that on a cold, rainy night we have gone elsewhere for our Friday night curry fix to save ourselves from changing out of our pyjamas and donning waterproof jackets to walk the five minutes there and back again. But when the weather is fair enough for us to shake off our laziness and venture out to collect our order, we've never had to wait more than half an hour, even after 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. Their prices aren't bad either a fair few dishes come with rice included in the price at no extra cost compared with other places, which saves a few pennies on side orders. Having been unable, thus far, to sample every curry house in all of Brighton & Hove I can't comment definitively, but as far as a good Ruby goes this is definitely one of the best you'll find.

Agra probably has to go down as one of the better Indian takeaway's in Brighton. All of the food is…read morefreshly made on the day, and I think you can taste that in the food. I have yet to meet anybody with a bad word to say about Agra (that even includes vegetarians). I personally have only positive things to say about everything i've eaten here. I normally order the chicken passanda and the lamb tikka, both of which are as good as i've had anywhere else. I'd definitely recommend Agra if you're looking for a new curry house.

Saffrons: Saffrons…read moreis one of my favourite Indian restaurants that I've come across in Brighton. It's fairly new and I feel the interior has a great sense of style with pleasant shades of blue and calming lighting. The main thing I have to brag about this restaurant is the food. I can be quite particular about my Indian food and I have to say the taste and quality of Saffrons is fabulous! I ordered a chicken korma and thought it tasted delicious; creamy and rich but with the right texture to really taste the coconut flavours - my stomach came away very satisfied and content indeed! For a side dish I had a peshwari naan and thought that tasted just as nice, perfectly complimenting the korma, however my friend has said that she found it to be a little sweeter than she likes it. Personally as I prefer it sweet as I generally have quite a sweet tooth, so this didn't bother me! The prices are average but you get more for your money than you do at other places taste and quality wise, and the portion sizes are good. I have ordered take away from this place before numerous times and although the food is great, the service on take away isn't something to brag about, I have had to wait over 45 minutes before now which isn't fun on an empty stomach! Apart from that I would highly recommend this place when you're craving Indian food, you won't be disappointed!

We usually go there in quite large groups so book in advance and have no problem getting a table. The decor is nice and light and airy and the seats are really comfortable. I usually order the Tikka Marsala with rice and a couple of different naan breads but we usually all order a dish each and have a share. Its all really well cooked in here. Value wise its so quite a bit cheaper than some of the ones in town but miles better!
