They do really authentic masala dosas- they taste just like they do in India. Go and give them a try!

    Review Highlights - Eastern Eye

London Road is far from an afluent area, so when Eastern Eye opened last year, I really was surprised.

I have heard a few people describe this place as the best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

You can never have enough good quality Indian restaurants (so says I), without doubt Shahi Tandoori…read moredeserves to be added to that category. It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).

Proclaiming itself to be Undoubtedly the Best Indian Take Away in Brighton & Hove, I couldn't possibly let it get away with a claim like that without putting it to the test, could I? And you know what? They may well be right... Having been steadily working my way through the Agra's menu since September, I haven't yet found a bad dish. Their curries are tasty without being overwhelmingly spicy and unlike a lot of curry houses, their meals aren't swimming in fat. But do they pass the ultimate test that of the non-soggy onion bhaji? Of course they do. I even order double so I can eat them to next day. Lush. The only downside (if you live anywhere other than right on top of it, like me) is that it doesn't deliver. And I must admit, it's for that reason that on a cold, rainy night we have gone elsewhere for our Friday night curry fix to save ourselves from changing out of our pyjamas and donning waterproof jackets to walk the five minutes there and back again. But when the weather is fair enough for us to shake off our laziness and venture out to collect our order, we've never had to wait more than half an hour, even after 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. Their prices aren't bad either a fair few dishes come with rice included in the price at no extra cost compared with other places, which saves a few pennies on side orders. Having been unable, thus far, to sample every curry house in all of Brighton & Hove I can't comment definitively, but as far as a good Ruby goes this is definitely one of the best you'll find.

I have yet to meet anybody with a bad word to say about Agra (that even includes vegetarians). I personally have only positive things to say about everything i've eaten here. I normally order the chicken passanda and the lamb tikka, both of which are as good as i've had anywhere else. I'd definitely recommend Agra if you're looking for a new curry house.

If you find yourself searching for somewhere to eat on a Friday night having heard your mate say,…read more"I fancy an Indian" you could do a lot worse than Ganges Brasserie in Hove. Their massive selection of dishes means there's something for everyone, so whether you're a spice freak or a meak 'n' mild kind of person Ganges will cater for you (if you're really boring you can even order chicken and chips but I wouldn't recommend it.) The highlight of the menu is the Ganges Specials section, which ranges in price from £9.95 to £13.95. From this I usually order the Chilli Chicken Massalla or the Lamb Passanda and as of yet I haven't been disappointed. However, the menu can leave the inexperienced feeling a little indecisive, as the range of options can seem somewhat overwhelming. I'd recommend going there with an idea of the kind of dishes you like, that way you can always ask the friendly staff for comparisons. The Sunday buffet is great for those of a hungry disposition as you can tuck in to as much as you like for just £7.95 but whether or not you go for this, Ganges is always sure to leave you with a lasting feeling of fullness. Top notch!

Bhindis, I must say, has the edge most winter nights as they'll deliver. When this place opened a few years ago, it went by the name 'Balti Towers' and quickly changed it... infringement of copyright? I have no idea. I though it was a great pun but I guess they wanted to be taken more seriously. Bhindis are very proud of the fact that they have an entirely open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs at work while you wait for your curry and it's plain to see that this place is both hygienic and efficient. The front-of-house service is great too. The food here is absolutely delicious, not greasy and super tasty. They use fresh herbs in all their dishes and you can taste the freshness of the meat and veg too. As much as I love the Agra I think Bhindis may have the edge with it's pricing too. Most dishes have rice included and you can choose between a large and small portion of your main meal, with quite a noticeable price difference. They also have this gorgeous bright orange coleslaw-type stuff (sounds weird but trust me, it's lush) which I dip my poppadums and bhajis into with immense joy. If you love a great curry, then Bhindis is a must.
