The lamb briyani had green peppers in them (first time I've ever seen green peppers in this dish or any briyanis). The peppers were so overpowering along with the tons of onions. The naan was too dense, it should be light and soft. And finally the lamb korma was just off (even had raisins in it). They need to focus on the recipes of these more traditional dishes and their basic flavors, not just throw in raisins and green peppers for flavor. I didn't even see one clove which is common in many Indian dishes (it is in even the bismati rice). My toddler and I go to Curry House for the buffet lunch every week. He gorges on rice while I eat the various veggie and chicken dishes on offer. There's also naan and chai! The fare is pretty standard and the price is on point. But it's really the welcoming attitude of the staff that keeps us coming back. The food is really good. Would have to recommend the chicken tikka Masala (the chicken is amazing) and garlic naan. However, the last time we went, it was midday on a Sunday during a holiday weekend and the restaurant was filthy. Dirty dishes were on just about every table and there was a bin or more dirty, used dishes right next to the silverware you pick up. The dishes weren't cleaned up until the end of our mea, and we were seated at the one clean table in the place. But, out of the three times we've been, this has only happened once. Would mainly recommend for the food, not so much the service. Edit: I added a star because I noticed while reading other reviews that the owner (or an employee of some sort) is responding to people's reviews, even the ones that are not so positive. I use to come here ALL the time with several co workers . the all you can eat buffet WAS great since you could pick what you wanted and in the quantity you want. Unfortunately since they lost the competition next door (Rani's) they got rid of their all you can eat buffet. I really don't understand what people are bitching and moaning about. Yeah, the place changed hands. Yeah, the food is a little different. Yeah, they raised prices. Guess what? I love Indian food, but consider it a rare treat since I usually end up spending a fortune to get everything I want. The solution? Indian buffet! Tired of the distance to Mela and the few selection choices, I decided to give this place a try for their weekend buffet option. Decor: It looks like you just walked into a fusion restaurant/cafeteria. Small tables with old fake flower in the middle of each table. Nothing fancy, but they could invest in slightly bigger tables. There's a TV in the corner on the wall broadcasting Indian music videos. Service: There really isn't any service. You walk in, grab a table, grab a plate, utensils, napkins, go through the buffet line, pay at the end of the buffet line, and sit down with your food. There is a guy that will bring you naan to your table, so I guess there's that. Food: It's really nothing special. There is more variety than the other Indian buffets I've been to, but as far as the taste goes, it's alright. Overall. It seems like the restaurant doesn't really know what it wants to do. The decor and the menu screams fusion takeout, while the food itself seems like it wants to be a genuine traditional restaurant. Few gripes: The tables are...very sticky. The fake flower in the small candleholder is weird. When you sit down, there's no one that takes drink orders, which I wasn't aware of, so I sat there for a few minutes waiting. Most of the curry items are spicy and had a heartburn thruout the day after eating here. I was taken to surprise that no briyani at all in buffet. No south indian appetizers. Just plain pakora and small samosa. Need to increase rice varieties. Owners go and try out other indian buffet places like godavari and minerva and take clue from them. Charging 12 dollars for buffet with limited items is not worth it. Rice pudding has no sugar. No lights at all and it was dark on a rainy day. Working in the Coolidge corner area, I was stoked to see an Indian restaurant on my third day of work this past September. Since then I've done take out (buffet) and sat down to eat the buffet in the restaurant close to 20 times. I've had varying experiences with the service. Like a person said before there is a woman who works there that isn't very pleasant. While waiting for my soup to be finished I was standing while talking to my charge (I'm a full time nanny) and she was in her argo (a baby carrier). It can be very uncomfortable/basically impossible to sit down with her in. The woman told me to sit down about 10 times, and I insisted that I wanted to stand, and she seemed annoyed. (Control freak much? I don't want to sit!) When the soup was finally ready she huffed at me and stuffed the bag in my hand. The other experiences with the staff have been nice, the men that work there are very friendly and answer my questions politely and help me if I'm holding the baby while I approach the buffet. The reason I absolutely love coming here is because on Tuesdays they have an extensive vegan selection of Indian dishes. I really like the mushroom dish, dal, and the pakoras. Sometimes I wish they mango chutney as part of the buffet (although they do have tamarind sauce) that would make it extra special. The buffet is 10$ and includes bread. It's a good deal if you eat multiple plates. read more

I wish I could give 3.5 stars. I'm actually a pretty big fan of this place -- I've never had the buffet, I usually do the two combo deal. I only eat the vegetarian stuff, but everything I've had has been pretty darn tasty. A couple of nights ago I had the chana masala (chickpeas), alu matar (peas and potatoes), and eggplant and potatos. I really liked all three, and I'm not usually a pea person -- the dishes are well-seasoned and more food than it seems in those small bowls. I also have had good garlic nan and peshawari (sweet) nan. They're not getting 4 stars because I find the rice a little bland -- I like mine with a lot of cumin in it. This place is totally solid if you just want Indian quick and cheap. A lot of Indian restaurants charge more like $12-16 for a basic curry dish with rice, and at Gourmet Curry House you can get a very large combo meal for only about $10. I had the Combo 2, which includes 2 entrees (one vegetarian and one meat), an appetizer, and rice or naan. I chose the chicken vindaloo, but I might go with something else next time as I like my vindaloo very spicy and this was nowhere near spicy. I also had saag paneer that was very good. I had rice and a vegetable samosa, and ordered additional naan because I just can't do my Indian without it. I had plenty for a huge dinner and lunch the next day. STAY AWAY!!!!! for the record, i just made a yelp account just to write this review. i ordered delivery from curry house about 9 months ago and recalled enjoying it, so i thought i'd try it out again tonight - and boy, was that a bad decision. whoever said eating here is like dining at the indian version of your elementary school cafeteria was right. my food just tasted...awful. the chicken tikka masala was bony, the aloo naan was more onion and burnt bread than potato and ...not burnt bread, the potato curry was also more onions than potatoes. not to mention that these weren't even fresh, real onions - but gross, grainy, clearly-once-frozen onions. the samosas tasted like they'd also been frozen and come from a box. and, the best part of my whole experience - they didn't bring part of my order. and when i called to ask for a refund, the girl i spoke to said her manager wasn't in and she didn't know how to give me a refund, so she could only give me a credit. and the half-pint sized containers i paid $11 for were pretty sad, especially when i could've (and should've) paid the same amount for twice as much food somewhere else. good thing i can only bear eating about $10 worth of the $30 food i just bought. i hope this place goes out of business. read more

The place is semi-fast food/semi-cafeteria/semi-buffet style with reasonable prices for the neighborhood/location. I actually would give the place a 3+. The food is generally fresh and not too greasy which is often atypical at many Indian restaurants. I also have to say that it is clean and the staff are friendly which can also by atypical. The menu is limited but that fits in with casual nature of the restaurant. However, within the limited pics you have the popular dishes--chicken tandoor, chicken tikka, aloo (potato curry), palak (spinach) paneer, channa (chick peas), rice, various naans, samosas. I think everyone can find something...on weekends they have masala dosa, and typical Indian street eats (chaat, pani puri, etc). My only negative is that it is occasionally a bit salty. I love love love Indian food, it is my most favorite food because I love spice and it caters to a vegan/vegetarian population nicely as well as people who enjoy their meats. That said, Curry House is truly the best Indian food I have ever had, anywhere! The quality of their food is wonderful, and their lunch buffet is a great deal! The Naan is fresh made, they sell alcohol, which is fun, and it is cafeteria-style, which means you get your food hot and quick .
