This is a decent Indian restaurant--nothing particularly fancy or exceptional, but solid and fair for the price. The mattar paneer was really good: the curry had the right consistency, not too watery, and well-balanced. The rice was also perfectly cooked and tasted fresh. The channa were just okay, slightly undercooked for my taste. On the other hand, the aloo tikki was fresh and flavorful, definitely one of the better items. Look, I'm old. How was I supposed to recall that I ordered from Curry Heights 13 years ago, and really didn't like it? Well, I'm glad I didn't, because we just ordered delivery and it was far better than I remembered. I can't tell you about what this place looks like (maybe it's gorgeous inside), but I can tell you that the delivery was quick, and as far as the food: The Manchurian cauliflower was deeply delicious, and had plenty of heat. The ka-chori chaat was literally the most I've ever liked chickpeas. There was plenty of texture and flavor and brightness to contrast the rich and hot rogan josh curry. I prefer the latter over the tikka masala we obviously ordered, and that sauce was not as thin and flavorless as I'd remembered, but quite tasty! The meat samosas and the naan were well done. Also, they have french fries. Nothing makes my kids happy as much as traditional Indian french fries. Overall, an excellent Indian delivery experience. The only downside was that the meats (both the chicken in the tikka masala, and the beef in the rogan josh) were a bit dry. (Also, they have beef? I've only seen this in Indian spots in Texas, where I assume it's the law that they have to have beef available at all times, in all restaurants. Options look small but was decently filling. The naan was OK -- could've been more warm. I liked the chicken vindaloo but it tasted a bit different from what I usually taste from other restaurants. The sauce was definitely more on the vinegary side. I was too tired to leave & try another restaurant! So decided to eat anyway. The price was high & the taste wasn't close at all. Me & my brother couldn't even finish our one chicken biryani. This is one of a few Indian places in the area. A lot of reviews appear to be be complaining here about service charges or some other stuff not even related to the food so the average here is probably a bit higher. Compared to most, they are more low-key with a good lunch special and a good dinner special for the area. Said dinner special for $22 comes with an appetizer, a main dish, a naan, and basmati rice. I got a sweet lassi to drink and it was fine. Less thick than some other spots but still tasty. My appetizer was the banana pakora. It came with 4 very large pieces and the banana inside was ripe and sweet so it was closer to a dessert and could likely be moved there without batting an eye outside of the mint chutney it came with. Someone had a Mulligatawny soup which was solid. The last person had one of the chaats I believe which was alright. My main dish was the crab curry which was surprisingly part of the special. I ordered it spicy and it was indeed spicy and good. Someone else got I believe a fish dish which I remember liking. The last person had tandoori chicken which was fine but not as good as Indian Table or Mint Heights. As my naan, I got the keema naan and it was hot and had a good amount of minced lamb though said lamb could have been more flavored. I tried the garlic naan which was tasty. The food here is a bit lower quality than at either Mint Heights or Indian Table but it's hard to argue with the lunch or dinner special here. They remind me of some of the hole in the walls in Murray Hill especially with the lunch special which reminds me heavily of Haandi. My boyfriend and I loved this place! We were seated immediately and the restaurant atmosphere is very quiet and peaceful. The staff were quick and attentive to take our orders and refill our waters. We did the $22 per person meal option. This consists of 1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 serving of naan and 1 serving of rice per person. The items included in this meal option have a star next to it on the menu and there are actually a good amount of options. This was a LOT of food, which we loved. The samosas were very large and crispy with lots of filling. The naan was very fresh, warm, and soft. The chicken tikka masala was rich and buttery (a little too much butter but this is just my personal preference). The chicken vindaloo was flavorful and came with lots of pieces of chicken. It really felt like we were eating soup... It was extremely disappointing. I really think this place needs to change the chef or recipe because something is definitely off. The curry should be thicker and have more flavor. My curry specifically felt like shrimp and onion soup. So many onions. Please season your food... The best part was the garlic naan. I really wanted to eat here as it had been an eon. I had a vital appointment nearby, so I took my Uber here. Sadly, the street was closed so we had to get out a block away and walk. Then someone else came up behind me and I apologized, greeted him, and moved out of the way. He went in, said nothing. Puzzled, we walked in and stood there, waiting to be seated. The man who entered before me came back out of the kitchen and just said "we arent ready yet" I apologized and asked if he wanted us to come back later. He said yes. I was surprised because they are usually so welcoming here, and I fully expected to be invited to sit down until they were ready. I figured it must be great to have customers waiting when you open. We went back outside but it was freezing. I'm disabled and had no coat since I Ubered here to get some blood sugar before going to Social Security. My caretaker had brought me here but had to be on a conference call the whole time, so without a place to sit, we had to eat elsewhere. I hope to randomly end up back here someday, but probably wouldn't rely on it for a crucial meal before medical appointment. During the 'New Normal' this is a spot my partner and I recommended if you are looking for indian food. Currently they are not open for inside/outside dining but they do offer takeout and delivery. Personally I recommend trying out the two-course deal option. It includes most of the appetizers and main courses and will make sure to provide enough food for dinners and next day's lunch. I ordered the Kachori Chaat and my partner had the Aloo Rikki, both were a first for us and neither disappointed with a nice blend of sweet and savory. My partner continued with the tandoori bbq chicken for entry while I had the Tikka Masala. Post COVID Curry Heights food was very good. They abandoned their "buffet" style trays where you would order from and every dish was prepared in the kitchen. Of recent they went back to this. Basically as a tray runs out of meat/vegetables they just add additional product to the gravy that is in the tray. This leads to bland flavorless food. Which was the problem pre-COVID. Overall I would give 1 star but that is not fair because if you are lucky enough to get the first serving from the tray the food is actually good. read more

This was a solid spot for a late lunch - I got the 22 buck special for appetizer and main meal + naan and rice. Very worth it and tons of food. Couldn't finish it and wrapped about half up. The sauces on the side were also fire. Service was good too. They do serve wine and beer but had plenty of non alc beverages. Sadly, I have only had one chance to come here during Corona. I planned my day starting here. I arrived here by car service around 11:15 am. As I looked through the locked door, trying to understand what the fellow coming out of the kitchen wanted to tell me, another person came up behind me and squeezed past me to use the door. We were told that they weren't ready, which is okay, but it's not possible to stand outside in winter. There was nowhere to wait and we were not offered a seat or a table while waiting. So due to necessity, we went elsewhere. It was such a disappointment, especially when I could have taken a car to some other restaurant. Probably wouldn't bother taking a car here again, but might consider eating here again if I happened to already be in the neighborhood. The curry was too oily- it made it grossed out when I opened the lid I saw a thick layer of oil sat on top :( The chicken cubes were too dry and hard too. The tamarind chutney was too watery and sweet. But at least the curry came in very big portion and I was very full after (although not very satisfied with the food quality). It seems the low rating reviews are mostly for the delivery from here, because eating in was a pretty good experience and the food was delicious. Maybe it also had to do with the fact that it was pretty empty with it being between Christmas and New Years? Anyway, our server was helpful in suggesting a few vegan options from the vegetable curry section, and I went with the Mixed Vegetable Curry. It had a great combination of flavors, a little bit spicy-hot but nothing that made my mouth burn or anything. It also wasn't super heavy or oily like some curries I have had elsewhere. Service was good. Our water glasses were refilled a few times without us needing to ask for it, and they gladly brought another bowl of rice when we requested it. The only weird thing that puzzled me was that the entire time we were there, they were moving giant metal racks through the dining area into the kitchen from outside. It is actually really tasty, reasonably priced take-out Indian food, but I just had a terrible experience that altered my entire view of this place and how it is run. Last night, my girlfriend and I got terribly sick within 5-10 minutes of eating the food. There is no way it possibly could have been anything else. It was like clockwork. Both of our stomachs completely flipped and we were incapacitated for several hours. Even after that, my initial thoughts were this sucks, but hey, it happens, and I should call and let the restaurant know that they should investigate. Mind you, I am entirely sure the food was the cause. I have a strong stomach and rarely get sick like this. I also hadn't eaten anything in several hours leading up to this. The male employee I spoke to on the phone (this was Tuesday July 28 at 12pm) was extremely dismissive, rude, and refused to apologize or acknowledge even the slightest possibility that the food could have caused this. At one point I asked, "is this how you always handle customer service?" he said "yes. you are wrong, there is nothing wrong with the food so I don't know what caused it." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was extremely offended and angered, so here I am, leaving a 1 star review to a place I used to enjoy. I had my order take away...order the two course special which I selected the butter chicken with Aloo tiki with chana. It comes with nan and rice and sauces. The aloo tiki with chana was insanely yummy and I would definitely get it again - highly recommend. The butter chicken is not oily at all like some other reviews..it was sweeter but flavors had depth and smooth. Really delicious. Their delivery service is not merely terrible. It's FAR WORSE than terrible. It's amazingly incredibly astonishingly AWFUL. Figure to wait at least an hour and receive cold food from a guy whom the restaurant repeatedly says is "on his way right now" or "waiting outside your house" when in reality he's nowhere near and the wait just goes on and on and on and on while the food being delivered gets colder and colder. I came here with my friend Saturday evening after peeping the Festival of Lights show in Dumbo. We were in the mood for Indian after we tried to get into an Indian spot in dumbo but got denied because we didn't have reservations. Meh. We hopped on the train and made our way to Curry heights. It's easy to get to but a little hidden when you reach the block its on so keep your eyes peeled. The food and service were equally spectacular! The waiters are so nice and accommodating. Inside is quiet and calm and you feel a zen vibe while eating. This place is perfect for a quiet and intimate romantic date night or if you want to come with a friend to have a good meal and talk. I ordered and was told that it was going to be a half hour. It turned out to be more like a little past an hour no matter - it's raining and traveling is hard under those circumstances sometimes. Ok. The food. Lamb Korma, samosas, chicken lollipops and tandoori chicken. Naan. All were steller hitting the requisite spot. Great for lunch pick up. Had the chicken tikka masala and chicken tandoori over rice w/ naan. They did reheat the chicken tandoori in the microwave which threw me off slightly but it tasted good nonetheless and i'm sure it was prepared fresh. Great flavors, good portion, great price.
