Went there last Wednesday. Dining in crowd was light but it appeared that their take out business was brisk. Got the chicken biryani dish with high spices. Also got the garlic naan bread. The dish was very flavorful and the level of "heat/spices" did not disappoint. For me it was probably a little too spicy. Next time will ask for a medium level. The naan was good but could have been a little more garlicky for me. Service was good. No nose level since there was only one other table with diners. Menu is extensive and the food is quite authentic. read more

Came here with friends for the buffet. Food was good. Service was so so. The parking lot is terrible. I cannot tell you what I ate. I know majority of it was chicken, rice, veggies, and curry. The food is delicious. I want to go again. read more

I tried out the weekend buffet and was not disappointed. Before dining here, I stopped by 2 other Indian restaurants to see what they had on their buffets. Out of the 3, Curry Bowl had the better variety for me. I only eat from the vegetarian side, so the meat side was irrelevant to me. The restaurant felt homey and the service was good. They were quick to discard dirty dishes from my table and left am entire pitcher of water on the table for me. The place appears to be a small, family owned business with authentic Indian dishes and flavor. The weekend buffet is a bit more expensive at 16.99 because of the bigger variety. The weekday buffet has less options but also cost a few dollars less. Also, they are closed on Tuesdays. The taste of the food was good and exceeded my expectations. As of now, this is my go-to Indian restaurant for a weekend buffet. read more

Best hidden gem I have found in a while! Actually my husband found it out from a work buddy and suggest I try it. So glad I did! I've had 2 other Indian places in the past and surprising to me, I've really enjoyed this type of food. This place has been the best so far. The place doesn't look like much on the outside and it's simple on the inside, but don't let that fool you. The employees there did not say much, but made sure our empty plates were cleared when needed. They also had food coming out constantly to replace empty trays at the buffet. Being as I'm still new to trying Indian food, I am so glad this was a buffet and I got about 1-2 bite size servings of almost everything offered. I don't remember a lot of the names, so I can't pinpoint what I liked the most exactly, but there was a spicy chicken I believe called "555-chicken" and it was so tasty. The spice was just right that you get the heat, but it's not over powering. I'm pretty sure I had a tofu dish, it had a green sauce on it. It was a little bland, but the sauce gave it some good light flavor. Im not a vegetarian, but it's worth mentioning that they did have several vegetarian dishes available, clearly labeled. The dosa surprised me. It reminded me of a crepe and I dipped it in a few curries, but oddly enough I loved it with the mango custard. The Gulab Jamun are delicious! Can't leave without having 2-3 of those juicy desserts. Oh, and try the carrots!!! You won't be disappointed. I need the recipe so I can get my kids to eat carrots. There were a couple things that taste odd to me, but nothing that wasn't edible. This little place is now our go to for curry! read more

I was in town for the holidays and tried the lunch buffet on a weekday. It was delicious. The dishes were flavorful and seasoned well. I didn't need much attention in regard to service so no issues there. A pitcher of water was provided so I was good to go. The restaurant was clean and simple. Nothing fancy. I plan to make this a regular stop to eat when I'm in town. read more

Went to dinner with friends Monday night. Some of my friends have eaten here multiple times. They enjoy spicy foods and I am here to testify some of dishes are hot as hades! I ordered the chicken chettinad and specifically asked for it to be MILD. That was not possible as the dish came out with 6-7 chili dried peppers. I could not eat it. I brought it home thinking I could add yogurt to it. That did not help. Will give it to my friend to enjoy. My other friends ordered butter chicken and lamb tikki masala. It was not spicy. Those are safer options. The garlic naan was excellent. We got masala dosa filled with some yummy ingredients. I do like some spice and seasoned foods but I can not eat foods that burn my mouth and tummy. If I return, I will only be eating the naan and dosa. Very good and not spicy. Our server was okay. There was another gentleman that was very stoic and quiet. He stood around and didn't say much. Prices are kind of expensive to me for the amount of food you're served. The restaurant is very large and spacious. The parking is adequate but there are many businesses that share the lot. They have Chinese zodiac place mats which are fun to check out. read more

I have been eating here for several years. The best thing I can say is the consistency of the food quality. It was hard when they modified service for the pandemic situation but they are back in full service mode for several months now. The wait staff are wonderful and as already mentioned, the quality of the food is excellent. read more

Don't let the outside and general location fool you, this place is worth it! We arrived at 11:30am on a Saturday and had the seating area to ourselves. The first thing I tried to order was out, so I went with the Chicken Saagwala. I ordered it Spicey and with a side of cheese naan. My wife ordered the butter chicken, medium spice level and garlic naan. There seemed to be a lot of takeout orders ahead of us, so we did wait a while for our food. It was worth every minute! This was some of the best Indian food I have had, and the spice was on point. The wife loved her butter chicken. I wish I lived closer because I would eat here far more often. The name of the business says it all: curry bowl. If you enjoy spice levels of 10/10 in your food, then you've found your nirvana here. You can't stand very spicy food, you say? Too bad. They make almost zero adjustments in lowering the "heat", as I found out. As least they provided me with unlimited sides of raita (yogurt sauce). Otherwise, they were indifferent. I won't ever be returning, but to each their own. note: The cramped parking lot is far too small for this strip-mall. Good luck. read more

For clarification purposes, this review is based on a takeout order. Therefore, there are no comments regarding interior of restaurant, such as, decor, cleanliness, or friendliness of staff. Our order consisted of butter chicken, chicken korma, goat curry, and chicken biryani, rice, and naan. I can't say enough good things about the food. Complex flavors and very tender chicken and goat. All the entrees were amazing. Just enough heat to make it interesting and not so much that you were miserable. I love spicy food without pain, and Curry Bowl delivered! If you love Indian this should definitely be at the top of your list, we will be ordering again in the future. Put this on your list of must trys. I will leave a future review of brick and mortar if we go, instead of takeout. read more

Visited here with a friend for their lunch buffet. As others have noted, the parking sucks. Once inside, we noted that the interior is also nothing to write home about, but the service was friendly and genuine. There has also been a fair amount of discussion about the heat levels in the food. As much as I love Indian, I usually err on the side of caution and order mild. I can stand some heat unless it keeps me from actually tasting the food. Part of why I love Indian food is because of the wide array of vegetarian dishes. Curry Bowl is absolutely no different here. There were several vegetarian options that were also not horribly spicy. They also kept the pans stocked and rotated on the buffet, even though we were there in the hour before the buffet closed. I'm not sure I'd make a special trip, but if in the area, I'd give it another go. read more

Just made it back to Memphis after more than 2yrs and my first thought for dinner? CURRY BOWL!!! Im from Alabama, but when I contracted in Memphis on a regular basis, Curry Bowl was where is go for good "down home" cooking. Not sure if the owners or chef would count my assessment, but good home eating translates to comfort food, where ever you are in world. That's what Curry Bowl dishes out! read more

THIS PLACE! From the outside, you really might second guess it. But trust me, this is THE best Indian food in the Memphis area! (And it's in MS, whaaaat) My friend who grew up in India took me here (there's the first good sign). We ended up trying tons of things on the menu because we did it family style (the buffet is only fri-sun), so I got a great taste of lots of dishes from around the country. Here, you don't want to just get traditional curry. Try their biryani and mimosas, and anything you haven't had before. It is all legit!! read more

You can tell by the reviews they've gone downhill. Very rude waitstaff. The place has dirty glasses everytime we've been, the staff are beyond rude, and they don't allow for spice - even if you specifically ask. We've been three times in the past month and it's the same thing each time. $70+ for subpar Indian food. Very bad. Will not return! read more

I had the Chicken Tikka which was tender and flavorful. I also had the mixed vegetable pakora which was flavorful as well. The chicken came with onions and the mixed vegetables were rolled in chickpea flour and fried. They came with a mint cilantro chutney and a sweet brown chutney with a ginger flavor. Both chutneys were great and added to the flavor. It did not come with rice or other items. read more

Ordered from UberEats on a whim, just wanted to try somewhere new. Got the Chicken 65, and it does not come with rice, to my disappointment. I feel like that should be specified somewhere. It was really tasty, nonetheless. I like it when ethnic restaurants don't tone down spiciness levels for a heavily Caucasian market. Let me emphasize: I really enjoyed EATING this dish, even if it was served sans rice. Within 20 minutes, I had regrets. I'm going to be completely honest. It tore my ass up. I was hunched over in pain. I thought I was dying. I literally cried out to God while on that toilet. I might have passed out for a minute. If you want comfort, I'm sure the chicken tikka masala is your speed. If you're okay with a little pain and fear that your life is ending, give the Chicken 65 a try. read more

I am a huge fan of this place now! I will be back as soon as the opportunity presents itself! I have very little knowledge or perspicacity with Indian food at all, so I am not sure if it's really that good or I am naive and inexperienced with this cuisine. My wife and I came for the lunch buffet during the week and got there at about 11:30. We were greeted very warmly by the staff and were shown a seat and given a big pitcher of water to drink. Not much other banter occurred during our visit, these guys seem to be very focused and intense on getting you in and out. A word to the wise... If you are alone, do not, I repeat, do not sit at a four-top table. They will uproot your ass and make you sit at another table, I saw it happen twice while I was there, and Brian experienced this first hand. On to the buffet, we arrived at the perfect time it seemed, we could walk right up and access the buffet with no competition when we first arrived. All the pans were full and appeared to be freshly prepared. I tried some of everything they had out and while I can't tell you what in the hell I was eating most of the time I thought it was all very good. Sure, some things just weren't my cup of tea, but they still seemed of high quality and excellently prepared. Later in our visit, it was packed, and there was significant wait to get to the buffet. There were some things a really like a lot, and some that were just too strange to me and didn't jive with my palate at all. It was very rich, and the spices were present in all the dishes. Some were so spicy I was chugging that room temp water and thankful they had the foresight to give me a pitcher. Others I found to be just right and booming with new tastes I have never had. One strange thing though is that my wife didn't care for it at all really. She is way more adventurous than I am but this time I was the one who was happy, and she was just meh... After we left I worried about the gastric consequences that I would endure because of the many dishes I tried along with all the spice in the food. I even felt "warm inside", I can't explain it really, but it was like the food was warming my inner core and making me all tingly inside. It felt oddly comforting though and I am happy to say that I had zero tummy troubles afterwards. I'll be back ASAP! Maybe I can go have lunch with Brian and we can sit at a four top together, LOL! read more

Plain Dosa $10.99 5/5* All 3 curries were yummo and while no lunch menu here, the curries do come with white basmati rice. Oddly the goat in Andhra Curry $19.99 appeared quite white in color and thought it was chicken thigh hmm but hubby loved it. 'Hot' was about as spicy as the red Dosa curry Butter Chicken mild $17.99 was yum, not overly creamy or cloyingly sweet that tends to be a problem I am sure as adjusted for US palates but Social D's was great though less tomato forward, but very worthy. Lamb Saagwala $19.99 medium was actually kinda mild (again that Dosa curry musta got us spice prepped haha) in a green sea of creamy spinach. Garlic butter naan #3.99 was crisp, thin middle, puffy edges with slight doughy chew, very good, and a 2nd order soon followed. Taj Mahal bottled beer $5.99 had a deep golden color, very malty palate mixed with a slight hop for a balanced day lager, an easy lunch sip. My BILaw was against trying Indian food, get this 'second' time claiming it was not for him, turned out loves everything we ordered today and professed to a return in future!! Yee ha! Menu is extensive with Rice Biryanis - unusual to see 4 distinct styles from different regions vs the generic rice biryani with different proteins. And Poori the hollow puffs with veg/curry dips. Again more unusual curry offerings include a couple not familiar with, Kadahi-Chettinaad-Andhra. And an Indo-Chinese menu that I've not come across in any US or UK menu.
