Located in hard to find strip this restaurant does a brisk buffet. I was married to a North Indian so am not familiar with all the Southern dishes. Puris were always made with whole wheat not white flour. Plenty of selection unlike at Bombay with limited buffet. Worth the drive for the variety. read more

I usually order on Door Dash. But I've been to the restaurant to pick up some orders. I absolutely love and adore this place, the staff is always nice and greets you with a big smile. The food is always fresh and delicious. Their garlic naan is my favorite. I usually order the Chicken 65 it's really spicy and delicious. We often order the white rice and Butter Chicken(which I mix the sauce with the chicken 65 and it's amazing!) Their lemon rice is delicious just the right amount of flavor with a kick of lemon juice. I love to order the vegetable samosa, I love the green sauce that comes with it(yes it's is a bit spicy/lemony) it's delicious. The only thing I have tried from here that I did not enjoy was the Mango Lassi, was too sweet for my taste and I was not a fan of the consistency of the drink. I had a good experience here. I had a chicken curry dish which tasted good. The curry in the bowl was even better with the naan bread. I had a taste of a cauliflower dish and the spices in it were my favorite. I also tried a chickpea based dish and it was good too. But my favorites were the naan bread, the curry from the chicken dish with the naan bread, and the spices in the cauliflower dish. I can't remember any of the names (there must be 200 items on the menu, doubtful I could recall them even if they were English names!) And that leads me to my only complaint. Ordered the chicken tikka masala with an order of naan and they were all amazing! Super filling! It comes in 3 types of spices (mild, medium, hot) and I got mild. The masala comes with rice and it was good too. I eat rice everyday and I had no complaints with theirs. Only 4 stars because unfortunately I couldn't handle the MILD spice I do recommend this dish/place to spice lovers, but to others be careful! Service was great too. Highly highly disappointed and disheartened today. I was with my 4 year old daughter and drove from cordova, specially to curry bowl restaurant to eat chole bhature(ala carte) but informed they are only serving buffet but not alacarte. I somehow convinced myself to eat it anyways but after 10 minutes I noticed the staff was taking order for alacarte from some other people, which she denied to me a while ago. It was discriminatory and hurtful, I felt very small. She has this audacity to take the orders in front of me from other table which she just denied to me and walking past me as if nothing happened. And when I tried to confront, she was argumentative. Buffet was really tasteless and cold and I believe this is why she asked me to eat it only so it clears the grid. It definitely hurt my feelings, I have been eating out my whole life but this has never to happened to me. Disappointed and sad and treated unfairly!! I had such a strange experience here being accosted by a server telling me that I wasn't allowed to sit at the table I chose. Before it was that I got nary a mouthful to eat, was this fellow bending over my table using his very best Indian accent "sir, sir, I'm so sorry, so sorry." No, I don't need anything, leave me alone and get me some water. "Sir, sir, so sorry. You can't sit at this table. You have to sit there." The place is about 1/3 occupied and it's the middle of lunchtime and I sat at a table with 4 chairs. There were at least a dozen of these size tables available the entire time I stayed. This is the reason you have 3 stars. When he told me to move, I just about headed for the door. That's normally what I would have done. My first bite wasn't even in my mouth yet, and I wanted it so bad. I carried my plate to the table I had been instructed to sit at, and he made a big deal about the paper placemat being under my plate. It's like this jerk wouldn't let me relax and enjoy my lunch. It really did piss me off, but I let it go so I could enjoy this wonderful meal. As far as the food goes, I would have said 5 stars. Buffets are great because if you don't know what to order, you can get some of everything. That's what I did. Every single thing. Well no, cause there were 3 soups and I didn't eat them. Everything was spicy, and that's what I love. My wife wouldn't like it though. The buffet is heated, but I wished I could put my plate in the microwave. It was warm for buffet. It was normal. This place is a trap. First you will notice no less than 8 rat traps (I kid you not) around the perimeter of this restaurant, and then you will trip over the cheaply designed entryway (watch your step or you *will* trip) and then you will take one look inside and ask yourself, "Wait, is *this* the Curry Bowl?" Drats! It sounded so promising in the reviews, and it is right next to the hotel my band is staying at for 3 nights, but alas, apparently the "best Indian food in Memphis" holds no weight whatsoever. Show up after the lunch rush (at 1:30pm) like we did, and the buffet will be picked-through, crusted-over and not even close to steaming anymore. The floor was dirty, greasy, and the grimy color of the floor tile grout would ruin some appetites for sure. I cannot believe that this buffet is open until 3pm! I wouldn't touch this buffet in it's final minutes with a flagpole, or a filthy mop handle. 4.5 stars?! (at the time of this review) C'mon Memphis. Is there no Health Department here? read more

I'm an out of towner who was staying at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Germantown when I was searching for local restaurants to eat dinner at. I am very glad that I found this place. If you are looking for a fancy place this is not it. If you are looking for an exceptional meal and attentive service then you have to come here. Let me start by saying that I'm from Dallas. It's a big city filled with an obscene amount of restaurants. My mother and I would have Indian food once a week for years. I'm not a newbie to it. Curry Bowl does it right. Their menu is extremely large which usually is not a good sign but not an issue here. I have only praise for what I ordered. I started off by ordered the Papad and also the mint and tamarind chutney. The Papad was exactly as it should have been, thin, crispy and full of flavor. The chutneys both had excellent flavour and the right consistency. I then ordered their house speciality the Currybowl Tandoori Platter. The server asked how spicy I would like it and I said on the high end of medium. That is what it was. Folks, spicy in Indian terms means flamin hot. Be mindful of that. If you can't take heat tell them mild. I was dining alone and the service was super attentive. Curry Bowl is an example of a restaurant that come a long way. Took classes at U of M and the Indian students suggested I give it another try and I'm glad I did. It is like the Indian hole in the wall. 12 for lunch and almost 15 for dinner on weekends. A little pricey for a buffet but if you consider the variety or the cost if ordering ala carte. The staff seems stiff until you are a regular. I'm a non meat eater so I have options. Two dessert options. This place has an excellent buffet with a ton of choices. I, of course, tried most of them. I did not try the salad/fruit bar not the soups available as I got full rather quickly. I came toward the end of their lunch buffet so the Butter Chicken ran out of chicken (to my carnivorous dismay), but it was otherwise a great experience. I brought a book to read, but I enjoyed trying everything too much to even read it. What a great place! By far I should say this is the best Indian restaurant we have been to in Memphis. The food is really great, tastes authentic and home made, the staff is always welcoming and the restaurant has a decent ambience than what I thought. The first time I have been to this place was to pick something that I ordered over the phone, the place didn't seem to be so great. However we have been here again just to be sure and to our surprise the buffet that day was too good and we ended up visiting this place few times. I usually don't post reviews but I felt this was needed. While the food was delicious, the customer service was lackluster and felt ignored as customers. My husband and I came from Kentucky and wanted to try local food but also cook a home cooked meal as we are Indian too (Punjabi). We got some of our order in a hurry but then when we added items we did not receive them until everyone else in the restaurant got their meal. One portion of our initial order did not come out until our bill, as in I could not eat my full meal. It was piping hot, like straight out the pot. That was a plus. I asked for extra spicy and they provided the heat. That was much appreciated. However, after a couple of bites I couldn't really enjoy the food because I was afraid I'd choke on a goat bone. I understand that there will be some bones in these particular dishes. But when there are so many bones that hinder me from enjoying the food, then it is definitely a problem. And in the restaurant they give you yogurt sauce and some other sauce with these dishes. I received one of each for two entrees. Smh. Needless to say, I was not happy about this $48 order at all. Will I order from the Curry Bowl again? They told us to sit at a different table towards the back "in case more people come" then they sat an Indian family a few minutes after us. The server (also indian) proceeded to take their order and drinks before even greeting us when they came in a few minutes after us! Do NOT recommend. The gal pals and I came here during winter break and boy oh boy it was an adventure! We went during the buffet time and the selection of food was nice. It was my first time eating Indian and having a large variety of unlimited food was nice! Although the employees were not friendly, the food was still good. If you just want to go by food quality, then this Indian restaurant is as good as it gets My gangura goat and my wife's pallak paneer were cooked to perfection and spiced exactly as requested. Also, the warm roti (wheat bread) and masala chai (tea) were outstanding. Here are the issues we encountered: * the website says they have a buffet from 6 to 9 Fridays through Sundays; they don't. * I've never been in an Indian restaurant without achar as a condiment; they didn't have any. *The dessert menu listed five or six items; they only had one. * We ordered raita with our meal, but it never came. I got my Tikka Masala medium, and it was quite spicy (and I like spicy food). My wife ordered Chicken Sagwalaa and it was so spicy she almost couldn't eat it. Yelp did not say this restaurant closed from 3-5pm, so we went in at 4pm. They were closed, but opened the entire restaurant to serve us, even after we insisted on leaving. This was some of the best Indian we've ever eaten...and we eat it a lot. Vegetable samosa and spinach pakora for starters, both light and crispy. This is my favorite place in G-town! I get a serious craving for Indian food sometimes, and this place hits the the gluttonous naan-nomming spot! You never know exactly what will be on the menu, but it's all good. Especially the Lentil buns.. oh my nelly. It's $13.99 for the Buffet, and each time is a bit of an adventure. They also sometimes bring to your table these yummy... crepes? I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it's slightly cheesy tasting. Definitely come here.
